it is not clear whether Washington actually sees the MEK/MKO/PMOI as a possible asset and a viable ally in the event of direct confrontation with Iran as the window for a diplomatic compromise rapidly narrows. The delisting was perhaps just an effort to annoy Tehran or, more important, to appease the anti-Iran establishment amid the current US presidential election campaign.

For now, however, there is virtually no sign of any American goodwill toward Iran, only animosity. Another clue to the tone of engagement is the delisting of the Iranian group, Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK), from the US list of terrorist groups, which will be decided on in the next few weeks. This is bound to heighten tensions as Tehran abhors the US protection of the MEK's Camp Ashraf inside Iraq.

The MKO is currently mired in a desperate attempt to prevent the dismantlement of its military base, Camp Ashraf in Iraq. Israel's open challenges to Iran's nuclear programme are a strong indication that the MKO/PMOI/MEK is no longer useful as a proxy for Israel's intelligence services..The anonymous Israeli intelligence officials claim, cited in the committee report, that the "blueprints" in the "alleged studies" collection matched documents his agency had gotten from its own source seems to confirm the analyst's finding that Israeli intelligence assembled the documents.

Washington's latest policy of putting more pressure on Iran through securing additional funding for "democracy-promoting" activities inside Iran has been greeted with official and popular rejection, even open derision, in Tehran.
"I think the Americans have no idea of what they're talking about," said Mamak Nourbaksh, a teacher of English literature.

As expected the terrorist Mojahedin-e-Khalq showed a knee-jerk reaction to Mahan Abedin's interview with Masoud Banisadr at iranefshagar website.
