In spite of the totalitarian grip in which the group’s members are held inside Camp Ashraf, we know that many are desperate to escape the cult and win back their freedom. At least two hundred names have been recorded of those inside Camp Ashraf who reject membership of the group but who are prevented by MEK /PMOI/MKO leaders from leaving

An Urgent Appeal, for Actions and Initiatives on behalf of Iranians in limbo in Iraq; in Defense of Human Rights and the Right to Asylum
... perhaps no story is more tragic than that of the former members of the Iranian Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), who wish to leave their state of limbo in war ravaged Iraq, can not return to Iran and hope for safety, and have not yet managed to gain asylum to any other corner of this earth ...

According to the reports received in the last few days by Anjomane Solh, the Peace Association Norway, about 120 people of the disaffected people escaped from the TIPF in a extremely grave condition. Some of them might be remained in a terrible position in different cities of Iraq or some of them might be able to reach near with the borders of Jordan and Turkey to ease them from danger circumstances of Iraq .

These 8 people aged 30-50 are from a larger group of 200 Iranian nationals and former members of Mojaheddin Khalkh Organization (MKO), an opposition group fighting against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Following Saddam’s downfall, these people seized the opportunity to leave MKO and take refuge in an American-run camp called Temporary International Presence Facility

Since May 2003, up to 3,800 Iranian terrorist MKO combatants have been ostensibly disarmed and confined to Camp Ashraf by US Military Police, aided by a Bulgarian unit. In this time a Temporary International Presence Facility (TIPF) was also established alongside Camp Ashraf to house those who wanted to leave the MKO. Around 800 have since been processed through the TIPF, of whom around 500 have successfully accepted voluntary repatriation to Iran with the help of the ICRC ...

Since August 2007, I have received telephone calls and emails from individuals, who are among a group of 200 Iranians being detained for the past five years in an American military camp in Iraq.

Family of a former MKO member, based in TIPF, reported that in the latest wave of defection, 5 repentant members of the group escaped the cult and joined the TIPF.
"Two women are among these people, one of whom is Ms. Batoul Soltani, 40, from the city of Isfahan. Her daughter, Setareh, was forcefully separated from her mother and taken to Europe in 1991....

We appreciate the humanitarian move as many of these defectors were shown a smooth outlet out of a hell of anguish and agony to a world wherein they could live as human beings. The last year’s publication of Human Rights Watch report entitled “No Exit” with details on human rights abuses inside MKO was only an iota of the group’s atrocities against the enslaved insiders.

Your work has always been appreciated by the many Iranians particularly the families of the victims who are still held captive in the Camp in Iraq. To our opinion TIPF has a historical and humanitarian roll to play for those who really need to be supported and helped to a safe and sound future. We also believe that your work has not been fully recognised and appreciated worldwide and more support must be gained for it.
