On June 23rd, the TV channel and propaganda websites of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) proudly announced the re-election of one of their supporters in Slovenia, “Janez Janša,” as Prime Minister, and emphasized in the news that he was their “staunch” supporter. Following this news, they enthusiastically published the full text of Janša’s speech at the MEK annual program in 2025.

Right-wing populist leader Janez Janša assumed office as Prime Minister of Slovenia in early June 2026, marking the start of his fourth term. According to DW, his new coalition government immediately sparked domestic and international controversy with divisive policies, ranging from proposed domestic tax cuts to major shifts in foreign policy.

Janša’s controversial policies include his involvement with the MEK, the formerly terrorist designated cult-like group under the ruling of Massoud and Maryam Rajavi. On July 12^th, 2021, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D Group) called for clarification on PM Janez Janša’s participation in a meeting sponsored by the MEK.

The S & D group published an announcement on their website stating that they were shocked to learn that the prime minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša, whose country is chairing the EU rotating presidency, addressed an online gathering, which was organized by the so-called National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the MEK political vitrine.

“This anti-democratic, cult-like organization, which was on the EU terrorist list until 2009, has a long history of human rights abuses documented by organizations such as Human Rights Watch”, the announcement read.

Moreover, Tonino Picula, S&D spokesperson on foreign affairs and Jytte Guteland, S&D shadow rapporteur on Iran, made the following statement:

“Support for a group with such a violent, anti-democratic record, at the level of the prime minister of a country holding the rotating presidency of the EU, is extremely irresponsible and grave. It undermines the ongoing efforts of the EU and its High Representative Josep Borrell to revive the nuclear agreement with Iran, a key foreign-policy priority for the EU.

“We call on the EPP Group to immediately and clearly distance themselves from such destructive behavior from one of its members, and clarify whether it supports such a key EU foreign policy objective as the restoration of the nuclear agreement with Iran, or not.”

One of the first actions that the staunch supporter of Maryam Rajavi has taken is to trample on the rights of the Palestinian people. On June 28^th Slovenia Times reported that Janša has announced plans to reverse the previous government’s 2024 recognition of the State of Palestine, claiming it violated domestic law. Additionally, the government intends to relocate the Slovenian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. If completed, Slovenia would become the first EU member state to do so.

Jerusalem is a part of the State of Palestine according to UN resolutions. That’s why, despite Israel’s requests, except for a few limited countries, the rest of the world is not willing to move its embassy to Jerusalem. In order to declare his unity with the Israel regime, which does not hesitate to commit any kind of crime against civilians and children, Janša reversed the rule of his country. This is a totally normal act by a person who ignores the five-decade long background of the MEK’s violent activities and the cult-like extremist attitudes it still maintains.

CEO of Nejat Society pens letter to the ICRC

Greetings and Regards,

On behalf of the Nejat Society in Iran, I wish to congratulate the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on Wednesday, May8, 2024.
Nejat Society represents the families of members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK, MKO) who are trapped in a remote and isolated camp in Albania. These families have not heard from their loved ones for many years, which is because the leaders of the cult do not allow their members to communicate with the outside world, particularly family and friends.
According to those who managed to escape from this camp, the most basic human rights of the members are violated and the European Convention on Human Rights, which Albania is also a signatory, is systematically violated.

In the mandate & mission of the Red Cross we read:
It (ICRC) takes action in response to emergencies and promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law.
The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.
. . . the ICRC, with the support of the entire Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, has constantly urged governments to adapt international humanitarian law to changing circumstances, . . .
According to this mandate, when the basic human rights of the members of the MEK are continuously violated inside the camp of this organization in Albania and the members are exposed to systematic brainwashing, the World Red Cross ought to urge the Albanian government to implement international and European humanitarian laws in MEK camp in Albania.
Last year, I submitted the families’ requests to connect with their loved ones, along with many documents to the ICRC office in Tehran, and they promised to handle the case and cooperate, but so far no answer has been received.

On behalf of the grieving and awaiting families, I request you to fulfill the main task of the International Committee of the Red Cross and provide the possibility of communication between the families and the missing members inside the MEK camp in Albania through the Albanian government.

The families have absolutely no information about the situation in the camp and the conditions of their loved ones. They do not know if their loved ones are still alive and live inside the camp. No one knows whether they have deceased or have been transferred to another country. There is no information about the physical and mental health of these people. Are they imprisoned and curfewed? These people are considered missing and disapeared from the point of view of their families. According to the information received from the former members, the relations inside the camp have the status of modern slavery, due to the mind control that is applied.

I also request you to remind the responsibility of the government of Albania to comply with the human rights convention of the Council of Europe and ask this government to firstly remove the ban on giving visas to Iranian families of members of the MEK to travel to Albania and secondly open the doors of the camp in Albania to families and the free world so that families can visit their loved ones along with representatives of the Red Cross and be sure of their physical and mental health.

British Ambassador, paid a visit to the Nejat Society

The British Ambassador to Iran, Geoffrey Adams, along with a high ranking official from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) who was visiting the country required a meeting in the office of the Nejat society in Tehran.

A number of members and associates of the society including Mr. Arash Sametipour, the international relations secretary, were present in the meeting.

Mr. Sametipour welcomed the visitors and introduced those present in the meeting and explained that the Nejat Society in Tehran consists of the former members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) who managed to flee from the notorious base of this organization called the Ashraf Camp in Iraq and are striving to help their former colleagues trapped inside the MKO terrorist cult.

The topics of the discussions were the de-proscription of the MKO by the British government and its consequences and also the situation of the Ashraf camp in Iraq after the resolution passed by the Iraqi administration which gives the control of the base to the Iraqi government.

The British high diplomats thoroughly explained the legal procedure of the decision made by the Proscribed Organizations Appeal Commission (POAC) which ultimately excluded the MKO from the list of terrorist groups in Britain.

Mr. Adams emphasized that the British Government has not changed its policy towards the group and still considers the MKO as a terrorist entity and has prohibited all government officials to have any contacts with the organization.

"Britain is part of the European Union (EU) and the EU has continuously designated the organization as a proscribed terrorist group and this proscription applies in Britain too" he explained, "the decision made by the POAC would have no effect on the policy adopted by the FCO or the British government anyway".

Mr Sametipour discussed the very fact that the MKO is a destructive cult which has held its followers mentally and even physically captive in the Ashraf Camp. "All cults need to show false victories to their followers to keep them manipulated within the isolated atmosphere of the cult" he said, "therefore de-listing the MKO serve the leaders to have better chance to deceive people".

Mr. Adams and his company agreed that no excuse should be given to the MKO to have open hands to carry on mind control techniques within the cult. They also approved the fact that the prime victims of a cult are its own followers who would lose everything. Mr. Adams also gave assurances that under no circumstances the British government is willing or aiming to use the MKO elements for any purpose at all. He made it clear that the British government would not stop its struggle to proscribe the organization again in Britain.

The high ranking British diplomats visiting Nejat Society in Tehran expressed their hope that the Ashraf Camp would be controlled by the Iraqi government as soon as possible and the misery of the families who wish to meet their beloved ones captured inside Rajavi’s cult be ended in near future.

In the end they invited Nejat Society to send a delegation to Britain to discuss the matters further with the British statesmen and parliamentarians in London. Mr. Adams reckoned such trip to be quite fruitful for the aims of the society.

Protest over UK de-proscription of MEK

Following the de-proscription of MEK from the UK’s terrorist list and open support of that country for MEK terrorists, more than 10 thousands citizens of Shiraz signed a letter for British Embassy, Tehran. The text of the statement includes:

The Terrorist Hypocrites group (Muajhedin Khalq) was removed from the list of terrorist organizations by British government although it has had a long history of a thousand crimes, treasons, terrors ,assassinations and cooperation with the enemy of Iran during the “ Imposed War” ,spying and even torture against its own members forcing them to commit suicide operations and self – immolation …

It is obvious that the traitor leaders of the terrorist cult are the main criminals who killed the best educated people of Iran and also the innocent civilians, declaring the armed struggle.

These traitor mercenaries who were Saddam Hussein’s accomplice during the eight years of Iran – Iraq war, launched dozens of operations along Iran- Iraq borders killing hundreds of our countrymen with the weapons donated by the enemy.

The criminal grouplet of hypocrites plans and operates suicide operations and self-immolations causing its own members to be killed. They also torture the dissidents physically and mentally. They even have no pity for their old mercenaries.

The terrorist are removed from the list and the British parliament members have become their spokesmen but the terrorists still maintain the strategy of armed struggle in their agenda and cry the slogan of “war against war” everyday, keeping the organization of their army in Iraq.

The below –named signatories who have witnessed the terrorist acts of MKO and bloodshed against our compatriots for three decades, announce our betrayal against the anti- human and illegal decision made by the British Government that de-proscribed the notorious cult of Rajavi and condemn this decision since it violates the international laws.

We are sure that the group that has done a thousand crimes against people (those same people’s of Muajhedin of Iran) in its black file. It has no sympathy for its own members or supporters. It will become a trouble for you someday.

The act done by your government will have no influence on Iranians’ will. The terrorists have no place in our country . De-proscription of the group by British government added another black page to the long history of hostility against Iranians.

We the undersigned, the families of the members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) who are based in the Ashraf Camp in Iraq, are seriously concerned about the recent decisions made by the British government.

Regrettably we have learned that the British government has de-proscribed the Rajavi’s terrorist cult known as the MKO after they have been listed as a terrorist group for nearly 8 years in Britain.

The consequences of this decision which has been made for political interests is that our beloved ones captured both mentally and physically in the Ashraf Camp would be used as terror tools again. This has caused all of us who are anxiously waiting for the return of our relatives for many years a grave turbulence and stress.

After the fall of Saddam Hussein, there were hopes that our children would soon achieve normal contact with the outside world and with their families and would eventually be freed. Our expectation proved to be wrong and the MKO finally managed to find a substitute for the former Iraqi dictator in the west.

We the families of the MKO members are the first people suffering from this decision since we have gone into deep worrying about the fate of our relatives. Would they be used again as terror apparatus for other people’s interests? Would their captivity in the Ashraf Camp last for a long time again?

You well know that the MKO is an established cult of personality which mentally manipulates its members. And you also know that cults need false victories in order to continue brainwashing their followers. Your government has granted this chance to the MKO leaders to keep on deceiving their members in Iraq. Our children would certainly get a wrong impression from your government’s decision. All cults also need a remote place to isolate their followers from the outside world. The facility of the Ashraf Camp which is guarded beyond the control of the Iraqi government has given the organization such opportunity. This is certainly in contradiction with the policy of war on terror.

Apart from all political issues, we would like to draw your attention to a humanitarian problem. Encouraging the MKO by such actions as de-listing them would have the following outcomes:

1. We as the families would be worried to death about the fate of our beloved ones confined in the Ashraf Camp.

2. Our children would be brainwashed more and more and would be used again in terrorist operations against ordinary people.

3. The Iranian innocent civilians would be subject to terror as before which will certainly leave many victims and casualties.

Mr. Prime Minister

We as the suffering families of the MKO members urge you to safeguard meetings between us and our relatives in the Ashraf Camp. We also demand you to make sure that the group would not use our children in terrorist activities again. You well know that there is no evidence to prove that the MKO has given up using violence to reach political goals. They have kept their army structure in Iraq and continuously have their parades and military trainings. They have even refused to publicly denounce the armed struggle and the usage of violence. They have not changed their strategy by any means. They claim that they have not launched any military actions since 2001. It is obvious that they have been incapable of doing so. Once they find the right backing they have the capacity to start using violence against civilians inside Iranian cities. At the moment they plainly look at the British government as that potential support and openly demand their weaponry to be returned to them.

What has happened under Saddam Hussein’s regime must not be repeated again. We require assurances from the British government that our children would not enter terrorist activities one more time, and if they do so we certainly would find your government responsible for it.

Families of MKO members gather in front of British Embassy Tehran

Families of members of the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) gathered in front of the British Embassy in Tehran on Monday to protest London’s recent decision about the notorious organization.

London has recently removed the terrorist organization from the Britain’s terror list.

The protestors were families of those MKO members who have been kept (mostly unwillingly) in the terrorist cult’s camp some 60 km north of the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad.

The center, called the Ashraf Camp, is a place where the MKO members are brainwashed to get prepared to participate in terrorist operations against civilians targets.

At the end of the gathering, the families read a protest letter addressed to the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown condemning the UK’s decision.

The letter considered as the gathering’s final statement, voiced the families serious concerns about the fate of their relatives and loved ones.

Stressing that London has made the decision for "political" reasons, they urged British premier to "make sure" that the terrorist group "would not use our children in terrorist activities again." "What has happened under Saddam Hussein’s regime must not be repeated again. We require assurances from the British government that our children would not enter terrorist activities one more time." The protesting families stressed that they would find the British government responsible, once their children entered any more terrorist operations.

They also called on Brown to "safeguard meetings between us and our relatives in the Ashraf Camp".

Established in 1960s, the MKO is at the European Union’s list of terrorist organizations subject to an EU-wide assets freeze and has been designated by the US government as a foreign terrorist organization.

Nejat Society Letter to the Head of Iraqi Government

Office of the Prime Minister Baghdad Republic of Iraq Date: Honorable Mr. Noori Al-Maliki the Head of Iraqi Government We learned with outmost pleasure that the board of ministers of the Iraqi Government has passed a resolution base on the Iraqi constitutional law which indicates that the Mojahidin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) and their base called the Ashraf camp in Iraq must be put under the control of the Iraqi government. We praise this courageous and prudent decision which is most certainly to the best interests of the Iraqi people and its government. We do wish every success for the Iraqi people and government.

The Nejat Society in Iran is formed by former members of the Rajavi’s terrorist cult (MKO) who have managed to free themselves from the captivity of this organization and returned home to their families. These people have experienced the process of brainwashing in this cult themselves and well know how their former colleagues in the Ashraf camp are mentally or even physically captivated and find no way out to the free world. The MKO under the protection of the allied forces in Iraq who have always guarded the Ashraf camp in the past five years has managed to find a safe heaven to carry out its cultic psychological techniques to achieve metal domination over its members and train terrorists in a remote place where unfortunately the Iraqi government has no control over.

We believe that more the Iraqi government’s control is imposed over the Ashraf camp, sooner would these people be freed, sooner would they be released from captivity and wasting their lives, and sooner would they be able to see their families whom in some cases have not seen for over 20 years. In this regards we along with the families of the members of this organization would like to request the following enquiries and thank you in advance for your cooperation:

1. Arrangements are required to be made for the families of the members of the MKO in the Ashraf camp to visit their beloved ones directly, without the presence of the MKO officials, in a place out of the MKO facilities, freely and for sufficient duration as soon as possible.

2. Regarding that cultic relationship is governing the MKO and this organization utilizes a pyramid structure to impose the leadership’s control over the followers, it is essential to dismantle such structure once the control over the Ashraf camp has been gained by the Iraqi government and the contact of leaders and the followers is disconnected. It is also necessary to give these people enough time and opportunity to think and study freely in order to be able to decide and choose their own upcomings.

3. Some mechanisms are requested to be adopted in order to let these people have free contact with the outside world after more than two decades. Past psychological experiences indicate that members involved in a cult need to be mentally recovered once they are rescued form the cult in order to be able to return to the normal life. Therefore it is essential to books and other public relations means be provided for them freely as much as possible. The Nejat society is willing to provide means such as books and films and so forth if desired.

4. Efforts are demanded to be made in order to abolish the thought scrutiny courts called the Current Operations Sessions which are practiced daily in the Ashraf camp for all members; and the free contact of the isolated Ashraf camp be made with the outside world in order to speed up the recovery process of the members. The Current Operation Sessions is the main technique used by the MKO to brainwash the individuals.

5. With the exception of a few leaders of the MKO, the body of the organization and the members must not be looked at as criminals but rather victims. The truth is that the members of a cult are the prime victims of that cult who have lost their life and need to be helped and rescued. The Humanitarian Move appreciated by the opposition

In a new humanitarian move taken by Anne Singleton and Massoud Khodabandeh, ex-members of MKO, they strive to help other members of the terrorist MKO held against their will within the walls of Camp Ashraf in Iraq detach from the group. Their move is appreciated by a number of other oppositions including Alireza Nourizadeh who has long been revealing facts on MKO and voicing urgency to help dissatisfied members whose destiny is unclear.

Nourizadeh’s remarks stated on humanitarian grounds rather than a political notion has filled MKO with indignation and the group showed a harsh and insulting backlash against him in its media as it is its typical. Regardless of any political stance, the move by Sahar Family Foundation (SFF) run by the Khodabandehs for the survival of the reminders of their comrades from the clutches of the terrorist cult of Mojahedin is a worthwhile activity.

Mr Teymur Khattar and Mrs Khattar Appeal to the Iraqi legal authorities to deal with the case of the suspicious death of their son Soheyl Kattar in the base of the MKO in Iraq called Camp Ashraf

Honourable Judicial Authority of the Republic of Iraq,

My name is Teymur Kattar. I was born in 1948 in the city of Hamadan in Iran and at the moment I live in the city of Karaj in the province of Tehran. My wife and I wish to appeal to the Iraqi security and judicial authorities to deal with the case of the suspicious death of our son Soheyl Kattar in the base of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organisation (MKO) in Iraq called Camp Ashraf.

It is worth mentioning that Sohey Khattar left Iran legally with his Iranian passport along with my nephew Mehran Rastegar to go to Turkey to eventually go to Europe for employment. One week or ten days after their departure, my brother Manuchehr Kattar who lives in Holland contacted them and offered them a chance to go to some place to learn the language first and then move to Holland to join their uncle. But contrary to his promises they ended up in Camp Ashraf the base of the MKO in Iraq, a place which is quite hard to leave.

I was unaware of their situation for about four months until they called and told me that they are well and are busy training. We were relieved to learn that. They did not mention anything about going to Iraq and Camp Ashraf. Then they sent some letters and photographs which were posted from Europe. As I learned later my son had quarrels with the MKO officials and had asked them that he was supposed to go to Europe but now he remains in Iraq. He had even told them that he would escape from Camp Ashraf any time he finds the chance. I learned about all these through those who parted from the MKO and came back to Iran. He was even once put in solitary confinement for 48 hours just for opposing the MKO.

We had no further news from them until my brother Manuchehr called me from Holland and informed me that Soheyl was killed in a border clash four months earlier. I was quite suspicious about the reason of his death.

My wife and I along with one of our relatives went to Iraq and Camp Ashraf on the beginning of 2004. They told us a different story. While they had published my son’s picture in their publication and claimed that he was killed during the bombings of Iraq, they told us that he was killed when cleaning his gun by an undesired shot under his chin.

We had gone to Iraq and Champ Ashraf to claim for the body and belongings of our son which they never let us have them and eventually we left there with frustrations. They did not even show us a picture of his body or a picture of his funeral. Someone there who I prefer not to reveal his name for security reasons (if I am assured that the person would be taken out of the MKO control I would give the name to the relevant authorities) informed me covertly that our son Soheyl was killed by the MKO since he was discontented and restless and he wanted to part from the them. This person told me that the story of undesired shot is false. Apparently our son Soheyl was eliminated because he was opposing the organisation.

My nephew Mehran Rastegar, who had left Iran along with my son and escaped later from Camp Ashraf and returned to Iran, told me the whole story from the beginning and said that they were taken to Dubai for a few days first and then to Iraq. When he returned to Iran he was suffering from psychological disorders and was completely depressed. He told us that he was continuously under mental and physical pressure in Camp Ashraf. He died two years later at the age of 25 due to heart stroke caused by all he had gone through in the MKO. Soheyl was 20 when he left Iran and was killed when he was 22.

While in Iraq, once a well build commander called Asad approached us and told us that apparently Soheyl had committed suicide. Then he said that Soheyl enjoyed high moral and was very cheerful. I asked him how a cheerful person with a high moral commits suicide. Later I found out that a girl called Alan Mohammadi was also killed exactly the same way. She was shot under her chin and they claimed that it was an undesired shot or perhaps committing suicide.

Hessam Shakeri and Bizhan Rezavandi from Karaj are amongst those who had escaped from Camp Ashraf and returned to Iran and they know about our son Soheyl Kattar. They say that Soheyl was killed by the MKO.

Now which story is true? Was he killed in a border clash by the Iranian guards as my brother told me? Was he killed under the US and its allies’ bombings as published in Mojahed weekly publication? Was he killed because of an undesired shot as we were told by the officials in Camp Ashraf? Or did he commit suicide as a commander mentioned? I would say none of these stories are right and they fabricate these lies to cover the truth which is my son was killed in Iraq by the MKO.

At this moment the wish of my wife and I is to know the real cause to our son’s death and we urge the judicial authorities in Iraq to investigate the reason. Our son Soheyl Khattar was killed in Iraq and it is up to the Iraqi security and judiciary officials to take up with the detection of the cause.

I must also add I was a firm supporter of the MKO in the past and I even went to Turkey and made contacts with this organisation and introduced them a few individuals. But now I hate them so much that I do not wish my son’s body or any of his belongings remain with them.

Therefore I summarise my demands as follows once again and I appeal all legal authorities in Iraq to help me.

1. I appeal that the case of murdering my son Soheyl Khattar be investigated by the relevant judicial authorities in Iraq and the persons responsible be prosecuted.

2. I wish to visit one individual in Camp Ashraf that I personally encouraged him to join the MKO without the presence of the MKO officials in Baghdad or somewhere ells.

3. I would like to go to the grave of my son in Camp Ashraf and also seek his body and belongings with the aid of Iraqi officials.
