Over the past few years, many Ukrainians living across Europe have been approached and invited to attend an all-expenses-paid political event in European cities such as Paris or Berlin. The organizers claim that the purpose of the event is to support, democracy, women’s rights, freedom and the liberation of Iranian people. They often approach people under various names and front organizations claiming to represent the Iranian so-called opposition: National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) but in reality, these groups are all linked to the very organization: the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK aka NCRI aka MKO).

The presence of Ukrainian refugees at rallies organized by the MEK has been a subject of investigation by several international media outlets, including Der Spiegel and The Guardian. Analyzing this phenomenon requires looking at the tactical objectives of the organization and the vulnerabilities of the refugee population.

Tactical Motivations for the MEK

From an analytical perspective, the recruitment of individuals who are not ideologically affiliated with the MEK to attend their events serves several strategic purposes:

Projecting Popularity: The MEK faces a long-standing challenge regarding its domestic support base inside Iran. By busing in participants, they create the visual impression of a large, diverse, and international movement, which is essential for maintaining their political relevance among Western policymakers.

Optics and Legitimacy: Large, crowded rallies provide high-quality photographic and video content for the group’s media wings. This helps project an image of an “Iranian government-in-waiting” that enjoys broad popular support.

Networking: By appearing to lead a multi-national coalition of supporters, the MEK aims to gain traction with European politicians and media who may not be aware of the crowd’s composition.

Why Ukrainian Refugees Participate

The participation of refugees is generally viewed by analysts not as a sign of ideological alignment, but as a byproduct of material necessity and outreach tactics:

Economic Incentives: For refugees living in precarious conditions, the offer of free transportation, food, and occasionally small stipends provides a tangible, albeit temporary, relief.

The “Gig” Economy of Protests: Recruiters often target refugee housing centers, framing these events as “pro-democracy” rallies or simply as an opportunity for a free day trip to a major city like Paris or Berlin. Many attendees reportedly have little to no knowledge of the MEK’s history, ideology, or specific political goals.

Lack of Awareness: Due to language barriers and recent arrival in a new country, many Ukrainian refugees may be unaware of the controversial reputation associated with the MEK and its past history as formerly terrorist designated organization. They may perceive the event as a generic human rights demonstration according to the MEK’s propaganda.

Ethical and Political Implications

The practice has drawn criticism from several angles:

Exploitation of Vulnerability: Human rights observers have noted that using refugees as “rent-a-crowds” leverages their economic instability to further a political agenda they may not even support.

Misinformation: By presenting these crowds as organic supporters, the MEK creates a deceptive narrative for the Western public and political figures, potentially influencing policy decisions based on inflated metrics of support.

Reputational Damage: Investigative reports detailing these practices have further isolated the MEK from mainstream Iranian opposition groups, who often distance themselves from the MEK’s organizational tactics.

This year, the MEK is once again holding an event in Paris on 20 June 2026, branded as the “Paris Free Iran Rally.” The date marks the beginning of the group’s armed struggle against the Iranian government over four decades ago. Due to its unpopularity among Iranian diaspora, the MEK often recruits financially stimulated non-Iranians, including refugees and foreign nationals like Ukrainians, to attend rallies to create the appearance of mass Iranian support. It pays all the expenses for the trip to Paris.

The participation of Ukrainian refugees in MEK rallies is widely interpreted by experts as a logistical maneuver rather than a political movement. It allows the MEK to maintain a facade of mass-scale support while exploiting the immediate material needs of displaced persons. This trend highlights the importance of distinguishing between a group’s curated image of “popular support” and the actual popular base they command. Media and human rights activists must take steps to inform refugees living in Europe so that the MEK does not succeed in using these people as a tool for propaganda.

Majed Ghamas, the representative of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council in Tehran, has said that the Iraqi nation disgraced the Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) by expelling their remaining members from Iraq, Tasnim reported on Saturday.<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Politician/Iraq/Ghamas/Majed_Ghamas_1.jpg"style="width: 400px; height: 212px; margin: 10px; float: right;"/>

The top Iraqi envoy described the MKO as one of the shadowy groups that sought to launch a new wave of terrorist activities in the region.

He said the MKO must stop their terrorist activities as they want to enter other countries.

“The MKO reminds Iraqi people of very painful memories. This is a mutual feeling between Iraqis and Iranians,” Ghamas said.

“Saddam, as the key sponsor of the MKO, was ousted and then the Iraqi government attempted to expel the terrorist group from Iraq, and today, with the Iraqi people’s support, the MKO has been expelled from the country,” he added.

The MKO has existed as an Islamist-Marxist group in Iran since 1965, when it fought against the former Shah of Iran. It performed a number of attacks against the United States soldiers stationed in Iran and then it was put on the U.S. State Department terrorist list.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the group resorted to bombings and assassinations. It then sided with the Saddam Hussein army the war against Iran in the 1980s.

Backed by the Saddam regime, the MKO launched a military attack on Iran in 1987, one week after UN Resolution 598 brought the war between the Iraq-Iran to a halt.

Iran accuses the group of being responsible for 17,000 deaths.

Saddam also used the group against Shias in the south and Kurds in the north.

Newt Gingrich, who is being vetted to be Donald Trump’s running mate and appeared with the candidate in Cincinnati on Wednesday, left the campaign trail this weekend for an unusual reason. The former speaker of the House had to fly to Paris to appear at a gala celebration for the Mojahedin-e Khalq, or People’s Mujahedin, an Iranian exile group that wants Washington’s backing for regime change in Iran.

<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Politician/USA/Gingrich_Rajavi_2_L.jpg"style="width: 510px; height: 270px; margin: 10px;"/>

In his remarks, Gingrich heaped praise on the MEK’s efforts and congratulated the group on the presence of another dignitary, Prince Turki al-Faisal, a senior member of the Saudi royal family and former head of that nation’s intelligence service.

What Gingrich failed to mention in his enthusiastic endorsement of the MEK, however, is that the Iranian dissidents previously spent three decades trying to achieve their aim through terrorist attacks, and some of their first victims were Americans. He also avoided talking about the fact that the group’s terrorist cell was once based in Iraq, where it was armed and protected by Saddam Hussein.

The timing of Gingrich’s appearance at the MEK gala was awkward for Trump, since the candidate had spent part of the previous week arguing that the late Iraqi dictator, while being “a really bad guy,” deserved some credit because “he killed terrorists.”

“He did that so good,” Trump told supporters in North Carolina on Tuesday. “They didn’t read them the rights; they didn’t talk; they were a terrorist, it was over.”

Four days later, Gingrich reminded the world that Saddam, in fact, had a history of support for terrorist groups like the MEK, whose members helped foment the 1979 revolution, in part by killing American civilians working in Tehran, and then lost a bitter struggle for power to the Islamists. After they were forced to flee Iran in 1981, the MEK’s members set up a government-in-exile in France and established a military base in Iraq, where they were given arms and training by Saddam as part of a strategy to destabilize the theocratic government in Tehran that he was at war with.

In recent years, as The Intercept has reported, the MEK has poured millions of dollars into reinventing itself as a moderate political group ready to take power in Iran if Western-backed regime change ever takes place. To that end, it lobbied successfully to be removed from the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2012. The Iranian exiles achieved this over the apparent opposition of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in part by paying a long list of former United States officials hefty speaking fees of between $10,000 to $50,000 for hymns of praise like the one Gingrich delivered on Saturday in Paris, where the MEK’s political wing held its annual “Free Iran” gala.

But, according to Ariane Tabatabai, a Georgetown University scholar, the “cult-like dissident group,” whose married members were reportedly forced to divorce and take a vow of lifelong celibacy, “has no viable chance of seizing power in Iran”:

If the current government is not Iranians’ first choice for a government, the MEK is not even their last — and for good reason. The MEK supported Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War. The people’s discontent with the Iranian government at that time did not translate into their supporting an external enemy that was firing Scuds into Tehran, using chemical weapons and killing hundreds of thousands of Iranians, including many civilians. Today, the MEK is viewed negatively by most Iranians, who would prefer to maintain the status quo than rush to the arms of what they consider a corrupt, criminal cult.

Despite how little reality there is behind the claim that the MEK’s political wing, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, is a force for democratic change, Gingrich was joined at the group’s gala in Paris by a bipartisan group of former U.S. officials, including former U.N. ambassadors John Bolton and Bill Richardson, a former attorney general, Michael Mukasey, the former State Department spokesperson P.J. Crowley, the former Homeland Security Adviser Frances Townsend, the former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, and the former Vermont governor Howard Dean. The gala was even hosted by Linda Chavez, a former Reagan administration official who has loudly opposed Donald Trump’s nomination.

As Gingrich noted, however, perhaps the most important speaker at the MEK gathering this year was the Saudi royal, Prince Turki al-Faisal.

Although the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran is not new, Prince Turki’s speech to the dissident group seemed like a departure to many Iranians, not least because it was marked by the bizarre spectacle of the Iranian exiles interrupting his address to chant, in Arabic: “Al Shaab Yureed Isqat al-Nitham!” — “The People Demand the Fall of the Regime!”

Video of this moment, broadcast on Al-Arabiya, the Saudi-owned satellite news channel, showed Prince Turki respond: “I, too, want the fall of the regime.”

The comment, an open call for regime change in Tehran from a Saudi royal, struck Iranian journalists and activists as a turning point. It was also deeply ironic, given that the chant was used in the pro-democracy protests across the Middle East in 2011 that Saudi Arabia fought so hard to repress.

Donald Trump is, by his own admission, “like, a really smart person,” and someone who has “a very good brain,”

<table align="right"border="1"cellpadding="1"cellspacing="1"height="272"width="401">

Trump, roughly: Saddam Hussein was thiiiiiiiiis good at killing terrorists.

but he don’t know much about history. His remarks this week—and on multiple other occasions—about Saddam Hussein’s skill at counterterrorism are a reminder of this.

“He was a bad guy—really bad guy,” Trump opined during a rally in North Carolina. “But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good. They didn’t read them the rights. They didn’t talk. They were terrorists. Over.”

Hussein, it is true, killed a lot of people. The estimates run into the hundreds of thousands, and he murdered in a variety of appalling ways: He had his victims shot, gassed, blown up, beheaded and even torn apart by wild animals. And while all of his victims had excellent reasons for not liking life under the longtime Iraqi dictator, almost none were terrorists. On the contrary, terrorists in Iraq were mostly honored guests and worked at the regime’s behest.

Thousands of terrorists called Iraq home, and their organizations had the blood of Israelis, Turks, Iranians and Europeans from numerous countries on their hands. Among the killers were members of the Palestine Liberation Front, the Arab Liberation Front, the Kurdish PKK, the Iranian Mujahidin e-Khalq and the Abu Nidal Organization. Saddam promised to pay the families of suicide bombers who killed Israelis for their deeds. It is true that he despised jihadists and had nothing to do with al Qaeda, but that hardly diminishes his record. Not for nothing, Iraq was among the first batch of countries designated by Washington as state sponsors of terror in 1979.

Perhaps Trump has information that is not widely available, but only one case of a terrorist being killed in Iraq comes readily to mind: the death of Abu Nidal. Before Osama bin Laden came along, Nidal—also known as Sabry al Banna—was widely considered the most vicious terrorist alive. He worked, by turns, for the Syrians, the Libyans and the Iraqis, engineered notorious airport massacres in 1985 in Rome and Vienna, and ultimately was credited with some 900 deaths and injuries.

Nidal was a particular favorite of Hussein, who employed him for assassinations and other wet-work from the beginning of his career in the 1970s. But as rumors of an approaching war with the United States swirled in the August of 2002, Hussein is said to have worried that Nidal, who lived in Baghdad, might be working for the U.S. Though Hussein might also have decided that as Washington was making its case for action against Iraq, Nidal was a non-essential burden. Iraqi press accounts afterward that said Nidal committed suicide and that he had multiple gunshot wounds. Perhaps that was what Trump was thinking when he applauded Hussein for killing terrorists “so good.” But the bigger picture of Iraq’s ties with Abu Nidal begs the question of whether the end was the most important part of this relationship.

It also seems to have slipped by Trump that the Iraqi dictator often used his own intelligence service to stage terrorist attacks. The best known case got more than a little press because it involved an effort to kill a former American president. In April 1993, shortly after leaving office, George H.W. Bush visited Kuwait, the country his administration liberated from Iraqi occupation. Hussein sought retribution through a car bombing arranged by his intelligence service.

The Kuwaitis uncovered the plot before Bush arrived. Two months later, after the suspects confessed and the full picture of the operation was clear, President Bill Clinton sent 23 Tomahawk cruise missiles into Iraqi intelligence headquarters. It was his administration’s first use of military force.

This was not exactly a hidden chapter in history. Indeed, President George W. Bush reminded everyone in late 2002 that Saddam was “the guy who tried to kill my dad”—a remark that launched countless conjectures about the motivation behind the American march to war in Iraq.

It is odd that Trump seems to have no memory of the incident and odder still that he holds up Hussein as being on the right side of the terrorism issue. Unimpeachable ignorance and no moral compass. Trump does that so good. Over.

The Kurdish parliament member considers the United Nations as the main responsible body to determine the future of the remaining members of this Iranian organization, in Iraq. “The UN has a heavy responsibility on the issue of the group since it has been a side of the agreement that was signed based on relocation of members of the Mujahedin Khalq out of Iraq,” Mr. Jano said.

The deputy of Kurdistan alliance in Iraqi Parliament denied that Kurdish alliance fraction wants the MKO members to remain in Iraq. ”We support the rule of Iraqi government on its territory and the expulsion of any terrorist group that is hostile to neighboring countries of Iraq,” he stated.

In March, Westminster became the focus of Kurdish activities. The respected Centre for Kurdish Progress organized a packed event in Westminster to celebrate Norouz. (The Iranian New Year fell on 20 March this year.)

<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/MEK/Kurds_Massacre/Kurds_Massacre_5_L.jpg"style="width: 288px; height: 155px; margin: 10px; float: right;"/>March 16 however marks the anniversary of the day in 1988 when Iraqi war planes and artillery pounded the Kurdish town of Halabja in northern Iraq with mustard gas and the deadly nerve agent sarin. Some 5,000 people – mainly women and children – died on the day, and up to 12,000 have lost their lives since. A packed rally in Westminster allowed Kurds and sympathisers to remember this tragedy inflicted on them by Saddam Hussein.

Both events were attended by leading politicians, Jeremy Corbyn, Jason McCartney, Hilary Benn and Middle East minister, Tobias Ellwood.

Those familiar with these issues will be aware of the role of the Mojahedin Khalq in supporting and facilitating Saddam Hussein’s genocidal attacks on Iraq’s Kurdish population. The MEK’s Morvarid [Pearl] Operation in March 1991 targeted and killed thousands of Kurdish civilians in an attempt to crush their uprising following Gulf War I.

In spite of this history, the MEK rallied its lobbyists to try to push the name of Maryam Rajavi under the nose of parliament. In an act of astounding chutzpah, Labour MP for Brent Central Dawn Butler eagerly submitted a written question on March 15: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will invite Maryam Rajavi to visit Parliament and the UK.

As Middle East minister, Tobias Ellwood, with Halabja no doubt fresh in his mind, gave a short, definitive reply on March 23: Maryam Rajavi remains excluded from the UK and Her Majesty’s Government has no plans to invite her to visit the UK.

Dawn Butler needs to perform a little more fact checking if she is to retain any credibility.

Secretary General of Habilian Association dismissed as wrong the US policy towards MKO which resulted in overstaying their welcome in Iraq.<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/WebSite/Habilian/Hashemi_Nejad_L.jpg"style="width: 260px; height: 184px; margin: 10px; float: right;"/>

Seyed Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad made the remarks in an interview with Basirat correspondent.

“MKO’s close alliance with Saddam Hussein in suppressing the Iraqi people has always persecuted the Iraqi people and broke their national pride,” he added. “Following the US-led invasion of Iraq and MKO’s cooperation, the Iraqi’s national pride has broken more than before.”

Referring to the Iranian terror victims who fell victim to the terrorist acts of MKO, Seyed Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad said the damages MKO members have brought to Iraq were twice more than the amount they have brought to Iran.

“Accordingly, their presence in Iraq shouldn’t have lasted long. If they are now existing in Iraq, that is because of the US’ direct and indirect supports for the terrorist group,” he said.

MKO members gave a cold shoulder to the UN warnings regarding the MKO’s presence in Iraq, leading to the increased anti-MKO attacks by Iraqi people like the one occurred earlier in October.

“Among the dead were senior members of the MKO such as Hossein Abrishamchi, one of the torturers of the MKO group.” “He abducted two IRGC members and a 17-year-old Basiji and tortured them in the most brutal way. He killed them after a series of brutal tortures including peeling off their scalp.”

He added that the western countries want to keep MKO members in Iraq because of two reasons: First, the western countries and the US use this group for implementing their terrorist purposes. MKO has a history of cooperation with Saddam for 20 years, and US needed their experience in Iraq for conducting terrorist acts. Second, the US could use MKO to create some problems for the Islamic Republic of Iran, like what they did in killing Iranian nuclear scientists.

Hasheminejad finally noted that since the MKO members are like a virus spreading terrorism, the Americans are going out of their way to keep them in Iraq.

Violence and instability have continued in Iraq throughout the last decade.

Indeed Iraqi people have suffered a lot not only as victims of the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein but <img style="width: 260px; height: 182px; margin: 10px; float: right;"src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/MEK/Kurds_Massacre/Kurds_Massacre_N_S.jpg"alt=""/>also after Saddam at the hands of US-led Western governments who are more concerned with access to the regional oil resources and with perceived strategic interests other than human welfare and also by extremist groups taking over parts of the country . Although the government of Iraq is trying hard to stabilize the country it still has problem confronting terrorists.

Although Iraq has experienced many bloody days in both Saddam and post Saddam era, still some days remain stronger in the historical memory of the people. April is indicative of the al-Anfal notorious operations by Baath regime against Kurds that killed at least 50,000 civilians and destroyed thousands of villages. April 14 is now the national day of remembrance for those killed in al-Anfal.

al-Anfal is not the only operations Saddam Hussein launched against the Kurds.

In April 1991, after Saddam lost control of Kuwait in the Persian Gulf War, he cracked down ruthlessly against several uprisings in the Kurdish north and the Shia South.

Mujahedin Khalq who had made common cause with Saddam Hussein served as part of Saddam’s internal security operation and hand in hand with Hussein forces committed full-scale massacres and other gross human rights violations. The death estimate during that time range from 20,000 to 100,000 for Kurds, and 60,000 to 130,000 for Shi’ites.[1]

Though the MKO has tried outrageously to deny helping Saddam in his crackdown on the Kurds, many eyewitnesses testified on this fact.

Fox news quoted a Kurdish English teacher who was in Kifri when the MKO mobilized against his town in 1991.Safir recalled how the MKO shelled Kurdish towns”at random,”took locals hostage, and in one incident attacked a busload of young people from Kifri, killing all 20.[2]

After the Swedish Parliament in a majority vote formally recognized the Anfal Operation as genocide and crimes against humanity in early December 2012, some defected members of the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization voiced their preparedness to give a testimony before the Swedish parliament about MKO’s key role in the massacre of Iraqi Kurds.[3]

The United States Department of State and the Foreign Affairs group of the Parliament of Australia also asserted the MKO’s assistance to Baath regime brutal suppression of the uprisings.[4][5]

Iraqi authorities have issued 148 arrest warrants for MEK members for crimes against Iraqis since 1991 but none have been arrested, according to officials. Maryam Rajavi was also included in the warrants. [6]Maryam Rajavi has been reported by former MKO members as having said,”Take the Kurds under your tanks, and save your bullets for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.”[7]

The crimes against humanity the group committed in Iraq, beside its frequent interference in the internal affairs of the country and group war mongering attitudes has incurred a seated-hatred of the Iraqi people toward the group members. The hatred which may lead to revenge as it had been the case during last year. 4 rocket attacks launched against the TTL caused the death and injury of several Liberty residents. And the Camp Ashraf September1th clashes caused the killing of 52 members.

Beside the dangers which threats the Camp Liberty residents from outside the Camp, they are under the menace of the group members within the affairs of the cult as Rajavi has ordered a new- though accustomed- decree based on which members are required to sign papers and declare their readiness to emblaze themselves in case of Camp Liberty evacuation.[8]

So what can really be a wake-up call for the international community to prevent a disaster and save 3000 lives?

<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Politician/EU/Rajavi_Stevenson_L.jpg"style="width: 290px; height: 272px; margin: 10px; float: right;"/>

Officials in Iraq have spoken out critically following a Conference held in the European Parliament, on 19th February, organised and chaired by Struan Stevenson MEP, President of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iraq.

Members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives’ Foreign Relations Committee have, on previous occasions, called for a boycott and non-cooperation with the Commission of the European Union and head of the Iraq Delegation Struan Stevenson because of the determinedly anti-Iraqi government agenda. Struan Stevenson and Alejo Vidal Quadras are known to Iraqis as MEPs who have been tasked to interfere with and push a particular agenda in Iraq. Stevenson is alleged to have been receiving funds and guidance from the Mojahedin Khalq terrorist organisation (MEK) to use his parliamentary position to attack the government of Iraq by falsifying facts and events, and inciting sectarian conflict.

The Secretary-General of the Knights of the Law’s Supporters (Farsan Ansar al-Ghanoon), Hassan al-Alwani, said that the Mojahedin Khalq represents Israeli interests in Iraq, and that there is a clear trace of the organisation’s history of involvement in the insurgency that has gripped Iraq.

According to several Iraqi officials, who have given interviews and made statements to Iraqi media, Stevenson was supporting Saddam and the MEK during the war. After the fall of Saddam, he and others became active in supporting the Saddamists (loyal remnants of Saddam Hussein’s regime) and the MEK in Iraq. Stevenson subsequently made several visits to Jordan and London to connect Saddam’s daughter and the Saddamists with the Israeli lobby in London; acting as a go-between and using the MEK and Saddamists’ networks in Iraq and Europe. After being re-elected to the 2009 session of the European Parliament, Stevenson transferred from the Iran Delegation to the Iraq Delegation of which he was made Chair. His colleague Alejo Vidal Quadras, also an advocate of the MEK, made the same transition. Now that Stevenson has announced that he will not be standing for the next European Parliament elections in May, it is timely to remember the fate of another MEP who supported the MEK, Paulo Casaca, who was exposed in his Portuguese constituency as a supporter of the MEK terrorist group and deselected.

Stevenson has persistently backed the Mojahedin Khalq’s determined efforts to remain in Iraq in spite of the fact the group is a designated terrorist group in that country, and in defiance of the government of Iraq and the Judiciary’s demands for the group’s removal under the terms of the country’s constitution. Although the MEK’s 3,000+ foreign presence in Iraq is tiny in relation to the massive numbers of Iraqi civilians being killed and is irrelevant to the complex social, civil, economic and security issues of the burgeoning democracy, the MEK has enjoyed extraordinarily disproportionate attention in the European Parliament because of the Israeli backing for the group.

The MEK’s continued presence in Iraq and the false narrative of their security is something Stevenson has used to disguise a determinedly anti-Maliki agenda. The European Parliament made every effort, using the MEK and Saddamists and Israeli influence, to prevent al Maliki’s re-election. Iraqi officials have pointed to the consequent increase in acts of terrorism and what amounted to an attempted coup d’etat at that time. These efforts failed, however, and ended in the arrest and prosecution of key players, such as al Hashemi. Although some individuals were arrested, others became fugitives in other countries. Over the next few years, Stevenson and the MEK brought some of these fugitives to speak in Brussels against the current government in order to influence events in Iraq. Since this apparently didn’t have the desired effect, this cohort have now embarked on buying people in Iraq who are well known to have connections with al Qaida and Daesh (SIRI). The European Parliament, and in particular the Iraq Delegation, has been used again to push an anti-Iraqi government agenda.

The European Parliament Conference on February 19th was said to include “some of the most prominent political and religious leaders in Iraq”, and was to focus on the issue of human rights. And certainly the participants are known to the people of Iraq. According to Habilian Association in Baghdad, the Iraqi Baath Party posted a statement on its official website announcing that it had invited the European Parliament to host the Conference. The statement continues with slogans against Iranians and Iraqis, but then praises the participants, especially those who support armed struggle in the al Anbar province, including the MEK who, it says, responded to the invitation and participated in the Conference [in spite of not actually representing anyone in Iraq themselves because they are a foreign terrorist group]. In a statement issued last week, Iraq’s Human Rights Ministry condemned the Conference, announcing that it had been orchestrated by terrorists and saying that in this way it acts directly against the human rights of the people of Iraq.

Among the most heinous effects of Stevenson’s anti-Maliki agenda is the terrible exploitation and suffering of the individuals being held hostage in the MEK’s camp in Iraq. UNAMI, which has been responsible for removing the MEK from Iraq since 2009, has made several clear and public statements about its concerns that not only are the MEK leaders obstructing any and every attempt to remove the individuals from the camp and transfer them to the safety of third countries, but the MEK leaders are also committing human rights abuses inside the camps against the residents. But more sinister than even this is the cynical programme to deliberately place the residents of Camps Ashraf and Liberty in the path of danger.

In the hopes of attracting the attention of Iraqis seeking revenge on the terrorist MEK, the MEK itself has hinted that their leader Massoud Rajavi is still in Iraq. The motive behind this is to provoke another attack on Camp Liberty by people who have been hurt by the MEK. The attack on Camp Ashraf on September 1st was an example of such a manufactured attack; although it is still unclear who was behind the killings, the hundred MEK had been spuriously left there by Rajavi in an extremely vulnerable situation. The MEK are so hated by many Iraqis who have been harmed by the group that it was almost inevitable they would come under attack at some time.

To counter this, Iraqi officials have announced that this is not true; they are unequivocal in stating that Massoud Rajavi is no longer in Iraq, and this rumour has been put out by the MEK and its lobbyists to create tension and to provoke a violent reaction. This is, says one ex member, another example of how Rajavi and his backers are living off the blood of the MEK’s hostages in Iraq.
