Recounting some of the human rights violations committed by the MEK leaders against their own members, the signatories of the letter declared their concerns over the situation of their loved ones isolated in the MEK’s camp called Ashraf 3 in Manez, a village in north of the Albanian capital, Tirana.

The families who have been looking forward to contact their loved ones in the MEK for many years now, ask the Albanian government to prevent the MEK leaders from violating the most basic rights of their members including their right to contact their families freely, to marry, to express their opinion and to live a normal life.
Expressing their support for Nejat Society, of which the mission is to aid save the MEK members, the signatories of the letter condemn the MEK’s attitude to violate the rights of its own members. “By signing this petition, we expect the Albanian government and the international human rights bodies to pursue the case of our loved ones and to be responsive to our demands,” they write.

They mention the misinformation launched by the MEK’s propaganda against families. However, they emphasize that the emotional bond with their loved ones is unbreakable. They state, “We are still longing for liberation of and visiting our loved ones despite the MEK’s poisonous propaganda, insults and accusations against us.”
Families of the hostages in Camp Ashraf 3 underlined their determination to keep on their efforts to break through the mental and physical bars that Massoud and Maryam Rajavi have built around their loved ones. In order to achieve this goal, they highlighted the necessity of being accompanied by enlightened and open-minded and unbiased persons, organizations and media.

The letter notifies the case of at least 200 residents of Camp Ashraf 3 who have declared their defection from the group but they have not been allowed to leave the camp. Instead, they have been quarantined by the group commanders. “We have serious concerns on the mental and physical conditions of these people and we warn about the outcomes of the MEK’s maltreatments against them asking for their immediate release,” it put.
According to the families who signed the letter, regarding the recent incidents in Iran, the MEK has gotten more isolated among the Iranian public opinion than it was before and this indicates that the group can not be considered as an alternative to the current government in Iran. Therefore, the group should not be granted the opportunity to abuse the most basic rights of its members anymore.

Reviewing the MEK’s atrocities and acts of terror in Iran and its treasonous siding with Saddam Hussein during Iran-Iraq war, the signatories warn the Albanian authorities about the MEK’s claims for properties as it claimed for possession of its headquarters in Iraqi territory. “In our opinion, the history is repeating itself,” they state. “We are witnessing MEK’s building another headquarters imposing pressure on the host country. What we deeply perceive is the victimization of the Albanians’ national security and interests by the MEK’s evil policies.”

The letter was signed by the families of MEK hostages and former members of the group who had attended the event for the first public presentation of the documentary “From Tirana to Tehran” held by Nejat Society. It was also supported by those families of MEK victims who could not manage to take part in the event. Their messages of support are published on Nejat Society website.

Recently, 42 former members filed lawsuits against the leaders of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK, MKO, Rajavi Cult) led by Massoud and Maryam Rajavi in the judicial system of Iran. A final verdict was issued in this regard in the International Court of Justice in Tehran and all the documents were handed over to the Secretariat of the International Court of Justice in The Hague for your consideration and action. The crimes of the MEK against its members are not limited to these individuals or to the past time and still continue daily.

At present, about 2,000 members of the MEK are living in the organization’s forced labor camp in Albania under the control of a destructive mind control cult and in modern slavery situation, and have no right to have any contact with the outside world, especially family and friends.
“Widespread and Systematic Crimes Against Humanity” is what has been and is happening for decades in the camps of the MEK in Iraq in the past and now in Albania against the members of this organization, which is the gravest of concern to the international community.
Based on the abundant evidence, the members of the MEK are prominent examples of serious violations of basic rights committed as part such as murder, rape, imprisonment, enforced disappearances, enslavement, sexual slavery, torture, apartheid and deportation. They are victims of crimes against humanity under Article 7 of the Rome Statute.

We call on you in the International Criminal Court in The Hague to prosecute and bring to justice the leaders of the MEK who continue to criminalize their followers and violate their most basic rights on European soil. And to rule for the rescue of hundreds of captives who are currently held incommunicado in the Rajavi Cult’s closed, isolated and remote camp in Albania.

What is the judiciary process?
There is an International Criminal Court in the Hague. The Statute for the creation of the Court reads that “The Court will prosecute the most serious crimes that are of concern to the international community. These are crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.”

The International Criminal Court was created to complement national courts. The Court will not begin investigating a crime if the state concerned is already investigating or prosecuting it, or even if the state has investigated it and then decided not to prosecute the persons concerned. “This has taken place in Iran,” Khodabandeh notifies. “42 people passed a judiciary process in three years to finally participate a hearing court in March 2021, in Tehran. The complainants and the witnesses addressed the court. The final verdict was issued a few months ago.”
The International Court of Justice, which has its seat in The Hague too, is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and a section of the ICC.

“The entire documents related to the ICC including the verdict issued in the Iranian court, the petitions, the documentations and testimonies were officially translated.” Khodabandeh added. “The copies were equalized to the original documents. They were sent to our friends in Europe. Three of our friends [ex-members of the MEK] Aliakbar Rastgou, Ghafoor Fatahian and Isa Azadeh took the documents and submitted to the court in the Hague.”
Khodabandeh notified that the defectors in Europe were willing to submit the documents to the court via a demonstration which was not possible due to the Covid pandemic. “Mr. Rastgou registered the documents in his own name and delivered them to an official named KarimAsad Ahmadkhan in the secretariat of the ICJ,” Khodabandeh clarified. “The documents of the national court were actually submitted to be investigated by the ICJ. The final result will be imparted to the French and Albanian governments [where MEK leaders are located].”

What was the case about?

“The complaints should include the cases that the ICC court can prosecute,” Khodabandeh said. “The ICC prosecutes the crimes that are of concern to the international community. So, a petition was launched on an international reliable website to gather signatures. Until the day we submitted the documents, 4000 had signed the petition. To this date, the signatures have raised a lot more. This means that the crimes of MEK leaders are of concern for the international community. The signatures were filed in 182 pages and delivered to the court together with other papers. The list includes signature from all over the world. It was also accompanied with lots of text, audio and video messages in support of the petition.”

The signatures are a demo of a part of the international community who are concerned about the crimes of MEK leaders.

Which crimes that MEK leaders committed will the Court prosecute?
These crimes are crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. It has been proposed that the Court should prosecute the crime of aggression but the state parties have yet to agree on a definition. Below are brief definitions of the crimes as agreed to in the Rome Statute. According to the ICC, crimes against humanity are crimes that are “committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population.” They can include acts such as: murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, forcible transfer of population, imprisonment, torture, rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, other forms of sexual violence, persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity, enforced disappearance of persons, the crime of apartheid and other inhumane acts of a similar character intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health.

According to the ICC statute, the crimes that are “widespread” and “systematically” committed against a group of people, are included in the crimes against humanity. “First of all, modern slavery is a crime that worries the International community,” Khodabandeh explained. “Therefore, Brainwashing is a crime. Mental and physical pressures under the name of sessions called current operation, solitary confinement, physical torture and death penalty typically took place in the 1990s in Camp Ashraf in the era of Saddam Hussein regime. The MEK leaders suspected 700 members of their group as being the agents of the Iranian government. These people were tortured. Some were killed under torture. Some people were disappeared in the MEK. These are all cases of crimes against humanity.”

The CEO of Nejat Society stated that whatever the outcome of the trial will be, the world will know that Maryam Rajavi’s democratic gesture is entirely deceitful because she has committed the most serious crimes against her own members. “The victims of the MEK were not from their enemies but they were completely under the authority of the group. They were devoted to the cause of the group.” Khodabandeh presented some examples of cases who were killed or disappeared in the Cult of Rajavi. Yaser Akbarinasab who committed suicide due to the severe mental pressure he underwent in the cult and Soheil Khattar who was killed in the group.

About the reaction of the MEK leaders particularly Massoud Rajavi, Khodabandeh says, “Rajavi can bother himself to file his complaint against every person he would like to, in courts of Albania or France. This is what former members of his group just did and then pursued in the ICJ.”

Currently, the petition created by 42 former members of MEK is under investigation in the international court of the Hague.

In this petition, more than 330 views in support of the international trial of Rajavi cult leaders have been recorded. A few number of the comments are as follows:

Asad Pak, a former member of the Rajavi Cult, wrote: “I am Asad Pak, a prisoner of war in the Iraqi camps for 9 years. In 1990 I joined them through poisonous propaganda of the MEK. I was in their organization for ten years with the most difficult conditions. In 1999, in an inhumane manner, I was taken to prison in Camp Ashraf on the pretext that I was an infiltrator and an agent of Iran, and I was tortured and harassed. After a few months, I was transferred to Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, where I was held for two years under harsh conditions. I left there and returned to Iran in 2001. I hope the leaders of the Rajavi Cult will be tried as soon as possible and our rights will be taken from them.”

Alireza Saliqedar, brother of Khosrow Saliqedar, imprisoned in the Rajavi Cult’s camp in Albania, wrote: “My brother Khosrow is a member of the Rajavi Cult and is unaware of my mother, who is paralyzed. A mother who travels to Iraq many times to embrace her son, but to no avail. In the meantime, Rajavi should be held accountable before the justice. We the families do support this. That day is not too far away.”

Mohammad Reza Mobin, a former member of the Rajavi Cult, wrote: “Undoubtedly this is one of the most glorious cases of the fight against terrorism and cultism in Europe, and the highest point of hope and encouragement for the former members who, like us, have been telling the world for years. that the organization has cultic relations, and within its relations there is widespread repression and torture of its members, and the cult leaders must be tried in an international anti-cult court. But we had nowhere to go, and always at the height of repression, we only reached out to God, and we asked him for help.

Written by Ms. Roghayeh Farazian, says it all: “I am the mother of Fereydoun Nedayi. My son was captured in the war and he has been imprisoned in the Rajavi camp for many years and I do not know about him. Fereydoun’s father died suffering from my son’s separation. I waited every day for Fereydoun to come back. I went to Iraq many times, but they prevented me from meeting my dear son. I wrote letters many times and asked for conditions to be provided so that Fereydoun’s father could hear Fereydoun’s voice when he was sick, but Massoud and Maryam Rajavi did not pay any attention. I have asked for the release of Fereydoun and all the prisoners. I wish my voice would reach Fereydoun and he would know that we are waiting to hear his voice and the news of his separation and we are waiting for him with open arms. I will not give up trying to save my dear son, and I will not stop trying as long as I live in my body. I, a mother, can never forget a part of my body, and my only wish is happiness and saving for Fereydoun, and I breathe in the hope of his return.”

Soraya Abdollahi

Soraya Abdollahi, head of the Nejat Society’s Mothers’ Organization, wrote in a message: “Mothers, the forgotten victims of the Rajavi Cult, along with the suffering families and former members of MEK, support with all their capacity the complaints of the former members in the International Court of Justice in The Hague. There is no doubt that victory in this path will continue until the release of all prisoners held in the Rajavi Cult’s camp in Albania. It is not far when our loved ones step into the free world.

Leila Kiukan

Leila Kiukan, the youngest child of Rahim Kiukan, a captive in the Rajavi Cult in Albania, wrote: “Greetings to all the loved ones who, like me and my family, have been suffering by this criminal cult, and I wish health and release for all prisoners in the Rajavi Cult, including my own father, Mr. Rahim Kiukan, and I hope this separation ends soon. Rajavi knows that we will fight to the end for our loved ones, father, mother, brother, and sisters, and we will bring him to his knees soon.”
Bahman Hashemi, brother of Farzin Hashemi, a prisoner in the Rajavi Cult, wrote: “My brother Farzin has been a prisoner in the MEK terrorist organization for several years. My brother had a wife and two children abroad. The MEK terrorist organization, an enemy of the Iranian people, deceived my brother. It ruined his life. My mother died longing to see my brother. I will take revenge on my mother for Rajavi and his gang.”

A petition was consequently filed on Change.org in support of the complaint of these 42 Former members against the leaders of the MEK. “These people were enslaved and contained in the closed and remote Camp Ashraf in Iraq, isolated from the outside world, and subjected to the conditions of severe cultic abuse,” the petition read. The petition has so far reached near five thousand signatures.

Following the final verdict of the Iranian judiciary and the accompanying media coverage of the case at domestic and international levels, the number of plaintiffs has been on the rise. They seek to file a complaint with international judicial bodies against the MEK leaders.

Former members of the MEK and families of current members –who are taken as hostages in the group– welcome the new action taken to bring Massoud and Maryam Rajavi to justice. They are hopeful that the International Criminal Court in The Hague prosecute the MEK leaders who continue to practice cultic abuse and violate the most basic rights of their members while asking compensation for some of the damage caused by years of modern slavery inside the group.

A number of ex-members of the group including some of the petitioners of the complaint has sent messages to express their happiness and their desire for a fair trial for the MEK leaders.
The release of brainwashed radicalized members of the Cult of Rajavi will naturally be the secondary consequence of a fair trial of MEK leaders. “The news of the court is a light of hope in the heart of mine and the hearts of other families of MEK members,” said Soraya Abdollahi, a mother whose son, Amir Aslan Hassanzadeh has been captive behind the bars of the MEK for two decades.

In a lawsuit filed inside Iran, 42 former members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK, MKO, Rajavi Cult) have demanded compensation from the organization’s leaders for their lost rights.

These people, who were enslaved and contained in the closed and remote Camp Ashraf in Iraq, isolated from the outside world, and subjected to the conditions of severe cultic abuse, found the opportunity to escape from the organization with the fall of Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship in Iraq and they returned to Iran.

Now, in the context of Iranian judicial law and international justice they are seeking compensation from the leaders of the MEK.

These former members of the Rajavi Cult raised their complaint in the Iranian judicial system in March 2019. Branch 55 of the Tehran International Legal and General Court officially registered their complaint, and on March 7 and 8, 2021, court hearings were held. The primary verdict of the Court was issued on March 16, 2021. The Iranian judiciary, in accordance with civil procedures, sent notices to the governments of France and Albania to notify the defendants, who are residents there, of the verdict.

Now, with the final verdict of the Iranian judiciary and the accompanying media coverage of the case at domestic and international levels, the number of plaintiffs has reached more than 200 – which is constantly increasing – who are seeking to file a complaint with international judicial bodies against the MEK leaders.

We, the signatories of this petition, call on the International Court of Justice in The Hague, as well as the governments of France and Albania, to work for the realization of the rights of the material, physical and spiritual victims of the MEK.

They are those who, through behaviors such as slavery, solitary confinement, torture and severe bodily harm, great suffering and irreparable psychological damage, sexual slavery, etc. are clear examples of Article 7 of the Statute of the International Criminal Court as victims of a crime against humanity.

We urge the International Criminal Court in The Hague to prosecute the MEK leaders who continue to practice cultic abuse and freely violate the most basic rights of their members on European soil, and to administer justice, while ordering compensation for some of the damage caused by years of modern slavery. And to further come to the rescue of the hundreds of other captives currently being held in the closed, remote and isolated camp of the Rajavi Cult in Albania.

I was informed that you are going to Albania today for a two-day visit and that you are meeting with high-ranking Albanian officials about the country’s entry into the European Union. Visiting the Greek border with Albania is also included in your schedule.

On behalf of the suffering families of members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK, MKO) in Albania, I would like to inform you that this organization, which is run as a destructive mind control cult led by Massoud and Maryam Rajavi, was transferred to Albania in 2016 and the members are held in a remote and isolated camp in Manzë, in Durrës county, western Albania.

Members of the Rajavi cult do not have the right to communicate with their families due to the cultic internal relations, and some of their elderly mothers and fathers have been kept unaware of the situation of their loved ones in the MEK for decades. Not only have they not been allowed any meetings and have not heard their children’s voices, but they have not even received any message from them.

Last year, a petition to the Albanian government was organized by these families at Change.org – which was signed in a matter of weeks by more than 11,250 relatives, friends and acquaintances of the residents in the MEK camp in Albania – calling for the possibility of getting in touch with them and learning about their health and welfare.

Urging Albanian government to let the families to contact their loved ones in MEK camp

Hundreds of separate letters have been sent by families to various Albanian government officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, but no response has been received. At the request of the MEK leaders, the Albanian government does not grant visas to Iranian nationals to visit the country, so they cannot pursue their demands on the spot through the judiciary there.

Some MEK members have now left the cult but are under severe financial pressure because they are not supported by the Albanian government or the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and do not have identity documents, work permits or refugee status. The Rajavi Cult’s goal, in cooperation with the Albanian government, is to force them to follow the MEK’s demands. The leaders of the organization also threatened to kill these individuals and the Albanian citizens and journalists who helped them, and have waged psychological warfare against them, and in some cases created legal problems for them.

With the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus pandemic, families have become increasingly concerned about their children’s welfare. Dozens of members of the organization have reportedly died from the disease in recent weeks. Communal living and the lack of access by health officials to the camp have created dangerous conditions for the members.

Albanian public opinion, especially among the residents of Manzë and Durrës, is very concerned about the presence of a terrorist organization in their territory; a group which has been expelled from Iraq for activities that contravened national security there, and which now has an open hand to operate in their country. Many media outlets and human rights activists in Albania have warned of the presence of this terrorist cult, which violates even the most basic rights of its own members.

During this period, suspicious killings took place inside the MEK camp, including the death of Malek Shara’i, but unfortunately the local police were kept from pursuing their investigations. There is also information that the MEK is involved in organized crime in Albania, including money laundering and human trafficking, as well as weapons and drugs smuggling.

Two years ago, Mostafa Mohammadi and his wife, Canadian citizens, went to Tirana to visit their daughter, Somayeh Mohammadi, who is in the MEK camp. They were beaten by elements of the Rajavi cult, and unfortunately not only were their complaints not dealt with, but they were expelled from the country and could not return and pursue the matter through the judiciary.

When visiting the Greek border with Albania, please keep in mind that Ehsan Bidi, a former member of the MEK, was taken to the Greek border without any charges after a year of illegal detention for refusing to cooperate with the organization. He was rescued with the help of other former members, human rights activists and lawyers. He is being held in illegal detention again.

The cases of Ehsan Bidi and Mostafa Mohammadi and Malek Shara’i and dozens of other cases and the suspicious murders that were left uninvestigated show, above all, the corruption of the police, the judiciary and even the media, that Albania is now a safe haven for criminals. And now terrorists have arrived on European soil.

I urge you, as a European Union official, to ask the Albanian government and authorities in your meetings what their response is to the families of the members of the MEK in Albania. Why should the MEK be able to cut off its members from the outside world, especially their families? Why do they not have the right to leave the camp, the right to marry and start a family, and the right to a personal and individual life?
