Sahar Family Foundation in Baghdad sent a letter to Mr. Filippo Grandi, the new UN High Commissioner for Refugees, simultaneous to the presence of the families in front of the gates of Camp Liberty in Iraq.

The text of the letter is as follows:

Mr. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees – Geneva<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Politician/UN/Filippo_Grandi.jpg"style="width: 400px; height: 212px; margin: 10px; float: right;"/>

With respect, we wish to let you know that after 12 years since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, and continuous focus on relocating the members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization from Iraq during this period, there are still more than two thirds of the members living in insecure conditions in Iraq. `

The anguished families of the members would like to know what the obstacles are which stand in the way of relocating them to places of safety and then to third countries. The families would also like to know exactly why they are denied visits with their loved ones which is their very natural and basic right.

We are awaiting your kind response.

Today over 30 families from different provinces in Iran have arrived at the gates of Camp Liberty. They want simply to have the right to visit their loved ones. They are asking the UNHCR and UNAMI as well as Ms Jane Holl Lute, the UN Special Adviser for Relocation of Camp Liberty Residents to Outside Iraq, why is it that 12 years after the fall of Saddam Hussein (the benefactor of fugitive terrorist leader Massoud Rajavi), there is still no sign that the terrorists’ camp will close and the residents held hostage by the MEK leaders will be rescued and taken to safety. Why, after twelve years do the families of Camp Liberty residents still not have access to their loved ones? What is preventing anyone from helping these people and what power lies behind supporting the hostage taker to the point that all the affairs of the camp are still in the hands of the criminal Massoud Rajavi and his henchmen?

<img style="width: 500px; height: 338px; margin: 10px;"src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Gatherings/Iraq_20160124/Families_Liberty_2.jpg"alt=""/>

Rajavi denies that the families are “real” and claims that these are all “agents of Iranian intelligence services” coming to “kill” the members of the “National Liberation Army” which is about to “topple” the Iranian regime and its puppet regime i.e. Iraqi government.

<img style="width: 500px; height: 286px; margin: 10px;"src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Gatherings/Iraq_20160124/Families_Liberty_4.jpg"alt=""/>

The families have brought with them all the documentation necessary to prove their legal position and their family relations with the hostages inside the camp. They have handed these documents to the Iraqi and UN authorities demanding action and are waiting for some result.

At the same time Nejat Society announced today that Ashur Varshi escaped from Camp Liberty and immediately contacted his family.

Link to the source:

Ashur Varshi escaped Camp Liberty and contact his family

Mr. Varshi defected the Mojahedin- e Khalq group and managed to run away the Cult after 27 years.

Ashur Varshi now resides in a hotel in Baghdad, Iraq. As soon as he stepped the free world, Ashur called his brother; Ghorban. He introduced himself and said that he was free, living in a hotel in Baghdad. His brother was shocked and couldn’t stop crying. The Varshi family were really happy they could hear Ashur’s voice after nearly three decades.

Ashur asked to talk to his parents. He said that he missed his mother a lot. Unfortunately his parents were dead while he was captive of MKO Cult.

Another camp liberty resident escaped along with Ashur. Mr. Mahmoud Ruhollahi is from Babolsar and now resides in the same hotel as Ashur.

Following the meeting of families of Liberty residents at the Iraqi Parliament, a parliamentary committee was formed to investigate the situation of residents of Camp Liberty and the demands of their families.

After the families visited Iraqi Parliament on Tuesday November 24th , the official website of the Iraqi Parliament reported that Parliamentary Committee in charge of investigation on the demands of families of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization held a meeting under the supervision of MP Arshad Salehi on Wednesday November 25th . The meeting was attended by members of security, Defense and Foreign Relations committees together with the High Committee of Camp Liberty in Prime Minister’s office.”

<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Meetings/Iraq_201511/Families_Iraq_Parliament_5.jpg"style="width: 510px; height: 270px; margin: 10px;"/>

The parliamentary committee discussed the demands of the families of MKO members to visit their children in Camp Liberty in order that the administration takes proper action for the visits. They also agreed on discussing the case of Camp Liberty in future sessions of the parliament.

Earlier, on November 24th, the parliament website reported that a member of the parliament’s leadership board, Dr. Humam Hamoudi had recommended the Human Rights Commission and Foreign Relations Commission to form a delegation to visit Camp Liberty and to get informed about the situation of its residents in the Camp and to inform residents about their families’ desire to meet them.

<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Meetings/Iraq_201511/Families_Iraq_Parliament_6.jpg"style="width: 510px; height: 270px; margin: 10px;"/>

According to the website, Dr. Hamoudi addressed the families and called on Iraqi administration and foreign Ministry to call on the embassies of foreign countries and UN officials to get engaged in their previous commitments and receive Liberty residents.

He suggested that the Liberty residents should be treated as entities who have to leave Iraqi territory as soon as possible.

First deputy speaker of the Iraqi Parliament stated,” The Parliament will try to guarantee the expulsion of the residents under the supervision of the Iraqi government and the Immigration Organization, after they visit their families and would take it as a humanitarian issue. This is our duty based on Islamic rules and international regulations.”

Second group of families of Liberty residents went to the camp near Baghdad, Iraq.

On Friday November 20th, another group of families of residents of Camp Liberty – taken as hostages by the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO) picketed in front of the camp in an effort to get news about their loved ones there.

<img alt=""src="https://st.nejatngo.org/Image/Gatherings/Iraq_201511/Families_Liberty_4_L.jpg"style="width: 510px; height: 270px; margin: 10px;"/>

These families demand the local authorities of the UNHCR to aid them with information about their dear ones who are not allowed to visit them.

The families were from Eastern Azarbayjan, Markazi and Isfahan provinces. They stayed the previous night in a hotel in Baghdad. They were present in front of the doors of Liberty, on Friday morning at 10 O’clock.

They are determined not to leave the camp unless the UNHCR gives them proper information about the destiny of their children and unless they are able to have a short visit with them.

As well as the first time, using loudspeakers, cellphones and cameras was forbidden for the families but they tried to cry the names of the children so energetically that they could hear them. They also tried to enter the Camp but they were not allowed.

They called on all human rights activists including Europe-based defectors of the MKO to support the action taken by the families and to put pressure on the UNHCR to allow families to visit their children. The UN should answer why it is acting in line with the ambitions of the Rajavis.

These are family members of individuals in the camp and have become concerned about reports that their loved ones may be transferred to Albania without notice and wish to be able to see them.

They stress that they have no political agenda and only wish to make family visits.

They are not for or against anybody and don’t wish to persuade their loved ones in any way, only to meet with them. The family members appeal to anybody, including the MEK’s supporters, to help facilitate these meetings, after which they will return home.

Since 2003 many families have travelled at least once to Baghdad and in front of MKO Camps in an attempt to meet their loved ones.

Most families has had no contacts with their beloveds from the time they joined the Cult. MEK leaders are holding them hostage. MEK leader Massoud Rajavi has reacted hysterically claiming the families shown in the film have come to destroy the camp and kill the residents.
