Open Letter from Sahar Family Foundation to Martin Kobler

Sahar Family Foundation has written a letter to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr Martin Kobler, regarding the latest developments at the base of the Rajavi cult in Iraq.

With kind respects and best wishes for your task regarding the issue of the inhabitants of Camp New Iraq (formerly Ashraf garrison), we would like to inform you of the following:

According to information gained from inside Ashraf garrison, Massoud Rajavi arranged a video conference with Ashraf inhabitants towards the end of September 2011. Participation in this session was mandatory for all cult members residing in Ashraf. In this conference, which lasted for 8 continuous hours, Rajavi tried to prepare his followers for the possible UN interviews beforehand.

He directly threatened members of his cult that during interviews they should not say or write anything but their names and the period they have been in Ashraf garrison, and should not mention anything about wishing to leave the base of the cult since this would produce severe consequences for them.

In his lengthy speech, Rajavi tried to frighten people against any and every possible UN action and emphasized that they would gain no benefit from the UN interviews and the UN intervention and it could even harm them. He told them that if they do anything except what he has asked them to do they would be arrested and handed over to the Iranian regime where they would be tortured and executed.

During his speech, Rajavi said that the Iraqi government, the EU, the UN, the ICRC and any other agency cannot make any decisions and the US is the only agency that makes all the decisions. In this respect he tried to give hope to his followers that with the US administration’s approval, the conditions that the organization used to enjoy under Saddam Hussein would be reinstated.

The information received from Ashraf garrison also indicates that all members have been put on a state of alert against the Iraqi forces and specific plans have been made in this regard. These plans are mainly defensive but some plans for ambushing the Iraqi forces and disarming them have also been made. The members are told that after disarming the Iraqi forces they should hand over the captured weapons to their superiors and wait to be told what to do next. It should be mentioned that during the April clash with the Iraqi forces some weapons were seized from Iraqi soldiers which are still being held by the Rajavi cult.

There has also been news that the leaders of the cult are actively seeking another clash with the Iraqi forces in order to eliminate some of their discontented members as they did in previous cases. This has been done several times in the MeK cult before. During the invasion of Iraq by allied forces in 2003, the leaders of the Rajavi cult murdered some of those who wanted to leave and later announced that they had been killed during the bombardments. In the following years as more dissidents fled Ashraf garrison it was revealed that of the over 50 persons that the MeK claimed were killed as the result of the bombardments, a maximum number of 5 had actually been killed in this way and the rest were eliminated by the cult itself.

What we would specifically like to draw your attention to is that inside Ashraf garrison the brainwashing sessions called “current operations” are proceeding with intensity. The reason for these delays and time-killing by the leaders of the cult and preventing the UN from carrying out its tasks is that they want to identify those who are potential deserters and also to mentally prepare their members for the interviews.

We therefore on behalf of the suffering families, who are the only right representatives of the inhabitants of the garrison and are truly following their best interests, urge you to adopt the following means.

– Arrange for the hundreds of families of members, who have been picketing outside the garrison for nearly two years and merely request to visit their loved ones which the leaders of the cult have denied, to visit the inhabitants during the transfer and interview process.

– Make sure that such meetings are carried out without the presence of the MeK officials. It is necessary for the International Red Cross and preferably the next of kin of interviewees to be present in order to gain the rapport and trust of the asylum seekers.

– Pass adequate information about their actual situation to these people since they have been away from the real world for many years and have no clue whatsoever about the circumstances outside the cult. Their only source of knowledge has been the cult leaders, so they must be well informed beforehand.

As before, Sahar Family Foundation declares its readiness for all possible cooperation. We would like to share all our resources in any appropriate way with the international organizations in order to reach a quick and peaceful solution for the dilemma of Ashraf garrison.

Letter from Sahar Family Foundation to the UN Secretary General

Dear Mr. Secretary General

We wish hereby to apprise you of some information and suggestions as follows:

According to information received from inside Ashraf cultic garrison in Iraq about the April 8, 2011 incident (documents and testimonies are attached), Ms. Sediqeh Hosseini, then Secretary General of the MKO, gives instructions to Ms. Fereshteh Shoja, one of commanders of the NLA

based in Ashraf garrison in Iraq, as follows:

“… The Iraqis have informed us that on April 8 they want to take back some parts of the north of Ashraf and return it to the farmers in the nearby village, which were confiscated in the time of Saddam Hussein and given to the MKO to expand Ashraf garrison. They have told us that they are informing us in advance to show that they have no other aim and they want to prevent any violent action and bloodshed on that day. But in this regard we have to arrange things in such a manner that we have some casualties. Also, there should be cameras ready to produce photos and films to record that day. The leader has instructed us that we must take political advantage as much as possible on that day. He has said that this is very important for our survival.”

Fereshteh Shoja calls her personnel and without informing them of the Iraqi’s ultimatum and their plans that they only want to peacefully take back some farm land back based on Iraqi court verdicts, and tells them:

“… There have been instructions from higher levels for a state of alert since the Iraqis are moving a unit and adding to their forces and information we received indicates that the Iranian regime’s elements are along the Iraqi forces which aim to attack our base and capture some people and take them to Iran where they would be tortured and executed. Therefore we all have to be on alert and do not let the Iraqi forces get into the garrison and fulfill their goal.”

On the day of incident (April 8, 2011), the Iraqi forces moved into the garrison from the northern part in order to divide the farmers’ lands which ended in conflict and 36 people were killed and some wounded. Beforehand Fereshteh Shoja had said to her combatants that:

“The Iraqis are using gas cartridges just to frighten you and capture you therefore you should not be afraid of anything. Move forward and stop them by any means you can even using stone and wood, and do not let them enter the garrison and arrest you and hand you over to the elements of the Iranian regime who are with them under any circumstances.”

The inhabitants of Ashraf garrison did not know that the Iraqis merely want to take a part on the north of the garrison according to the Iraqi court verdicts and return them to their rightful owners. They also did not know that the leaders were informed beforehand. The leaders of the garrison had deceived the inhabitants and let them believe that the Iraqis intended to arrest some and send them to Iran to be tortured and executed. Apparently the Iraqis’ policy to give the leaders prior knowledge of their intention in order to stop violence and bloodshed worked to the opposite and they let the leaders of the MKO arrange things for more casualties and they managed to film the incident and take pictures for their political and propaganda interests.

Accurate assessments made about the atmosphere inside Ashraf garrison show that at least 80% of the inhabitants are there against their own will and if the situation is ready and they have the freedom to make an independent decision they would definitely leave the organization. These people have no motivation to resist against the Iraqi authorities and not to disobey the verdicts of the Iraqi courts. They have been deceived and forced to do so and some have lost their lives in this way for nothing.

It is worth mentioning that the MKO did not send its higher level members for this conflict and tried to send discontented and lower level members through deception and giving false information and by using the phobia of being arrested and sent to Iran. The MKO leaders wanted to get rid of the opposing members and also to use their blood for propaganda. Of course it must be said that the majority of the members did not accept to counter the Iraqi forces entering the base.
What was mentioned above is not a secret to the American forces and the international authorities and they all know the situation well, but some international political interests are at stake which want the garrison to stay intact at any cost and for many to stay in captivity and isolation for many more years. Those who do not fulfill their international duty in this regards are surely responsible toward the confined inhabitants of the garrison and their suffering families. Sooner or later Ashraf garrison will be dissolved and the cult members will be freed and then those who kept silent against Rajavi’s crimes and supported him openly and covertly, and still consider him, despite many documents that he has held the members as hostages inside the garrison, as the representative of the captives will be ashamed of themselves.

Anyway, what we think is essential to be said in order to save the lives of the inhabitants of Ashraf inhabitants and to stop more people being sacrificed by Rajavi and to prevent a human catastrophe are mentioned briefly below:

– An overall assessment must be made of the internal situation of the garrison by making thorough interviews by international authorities of those who recently managed to escape from the garrison taking grave risks. It must be made clear whether the inhabitants of Ashraf are there voluntarily or whether Ashraf is a huge confinement camp that the individuals have to escape from at any cost.

– The asylum procedure of Ashraf inhabitants must be conducted individually and without the presence of any MKO officials. The main reason for the present deadlock is that during the past 8 years both the American forces and the international authorities and organizations, in order to keep the MKO intact, have had their contacts with the leaders and they did not approach the rank and file members at all. The MKO members based in Ashraf have no idea of the outside world and what is happening there.

– Any misleading with the cost of the blood of the hostages held by Rajavi inside the garrison must be prevented. Also Rajavi and his deeds must not be justified by treating him as the representative of the hostages inside the garrison.

– The deeds of Rajavi and other leaders of the MKO as hostage takers and those who still, after their sponsor Saddam Hussein has fallen, do not open the gates of the garrison and do not let the captives have access to the outside world must be revealed. They did not hesitate to kill and let die and put members in solitary confinement and under torture.

– In a realistic approach and solution seeking, the sovereignty of Iraq and its nation and government must be recognized. Accepting the natural right and demand of the government and parliament of Iraq and respect for the deadline which is quite seriously followed is part of the responsibility of the international community. Naturally disregarding and challenging this just and lawful demand would put the Iraqi government in a situation that has to decide exclusively and the international organizations who did not intervene and did not give assistance will bear the responsibility.

The real victims of Rajavi have no voice

Letter of the Sahar Family Foundation to the EU envoy for Ashraf Camp:

After Mr. Jean De Ruyt was appointed by Baroness Catherine Ashton to prepare a report about Ashraf Camp in Iraq for the European Union, the SFF wrote a letter to him which is as follows:

The captives inside Ashraf Camp and their suffering families have no representative and no voice internationally and no one is reflecting their concerns and demands.

As we wrote in our letter to the UN General Secretary (a copy is attached), Massoud Rajavi, the cultic leader of the MKO, addressed his followers in Ashraf Camp via Skype during sessions from dusk till dawn during the month of Ramadan. Attending these boring sessions was compulsory for all Ashraf residents. Rajavi emphasized in these sessions that he is determined to keep his forces at any cost. He described giving asylum to Ashraf residents individually a conspiracy to dissolve the organization. He did not give a reason for that but it is obvious that he is aiming to establish another Ashraf Camp in another place (if it happens that he loses the present one), in order to continue keeping the inhabitants captive.
We remember in the past that by submitting his arms to the allied forces in 2003, Rajavi managed to keep Ashraf intact and kept his followers bonded. This time his major goal is to keep his forces too even though he might think that he cannot keep Ashraf any longer.

During these sessions, Rajavi demanded that his forces sign a commitment to be loyal to him to the end. Practically he obliged all his men and women to promise him they would not escape under any circumstances. It is worth mentioning that so far 7 individuals have escaped from Ashraf Camp despite these obligations.

After a few members of the MKO all-female leadership council managed to escape and revealed Rajavi’s immoral behavior, sensitivity over fleeing the leadership council has increased and a greater risk to their lives is concerned. Ms. Zahra Mirbagheri a member of the leadership council who managed to escape some time ago says that Rajavi had ordered all members of the leadership council to watch each other closely and if one attempted to flee others must stop her and it is quite accepted if ten of them are killed to stop one. Ms. Mirbagheri managed to escape miraculously and had she delayed a few moments before reaching the Iraqis she would have been dead since some of the high ranking members of the leadership council were chasing her.

News received from within the Ashraf Camp indicates that all members were armed with slings, catapults and cold weapons and they have loaded a lot of stones and metal pieces on the roofs. Eye witnesses say that when the Iraqi units approached the Camp last April to take back the confiscated lands of the farmers, some MKO committed self-immolation by the direct order of the leaders and at least one person was killed in this manner. Also some deliberately dropped themselves under the Iraqi vehicles and at least one person was killed like this. Some MKO dissidents were shot and killed by the MKO, misusing the situation to eliminate internal opponents. It is significant that those who were more discontented were those who apparently fought against the Iraqis and were killed.

During last April’s incidents, according to eye witnesses, the Iraqis were shooting either into the air or at the ground to stop the aggressors from advancing. In this situation the commanders were encouraging the members to go forward saying the bullets aren’t real and no one should be afraid. But later they claimed that the Iraqi firing killed the victims. It is also said that the MKO had manufactured a shelling device to fire stones using a motor and a tank. Many members of the MKO who were inside the Camp in that time and managed to escape are willing to give their testimony to anyone concerned.

One of those who were announced as dead by the MKO during that event was Morteza Beheshti. He left his wife and his infant child back in Tehran 10 years ago to go to Turkey to find a job to finance his family. But he was deceived into going to Iraq and Ashraf Camp and was kept captive there. His sisters Narges and Laila Beheshti were amongst the families picketing outside Ashraf Camp demanding visits with their loved ones, a request which was denied by the MKO leaders. The sisters investigated the matter with the help of the SFF. Some bodies including that of Morteza were moved to Ba’quba hospital near Ashraf. Morteza’s body was there for at least 40 days and the hospital officials refused to give it to the family. But later the MKO managed to get hold of the body illegally using its influence and spending a lot of money. The hospital report indicates that Morteza was shot in his forehead and his chest. But everyone knows that the Iraqis were shooting into the air or at the ground and according to the MKO leaders they were not using real bullets. The MKO announced Morteza’s death a few days after the incident. Many are willing to witness that Morteza was dissatisfied and wanted to leave. There are other similar cases which can be presented in detail.

Unfortunately the prime victims and inmates inside Ashraf have no representative and no voice and no one is reflecting their interests. They are threatened by Rajavi that if they only try to escape they will face court martial and execution. Some political interests demand that the residents should be held captive inside Ashraf and their families are those who suffer most. This situation will not last for long as Rajavi himself has realized. Rajavi and his supporters in the west cannot keep Ashraf and the forces there, and it is better that those who insist on keeping them there stop making the families suffer any longer.

We wonder why international organizations including the UN are silent about the case. The UNAMI team in Baghdad invites the Iraqi government to respect the principals of human rights in relation to Camp Ashraf, but no one is trying to learn what Rajavi is doing to his own people inside the Camp. The inside of the Camp has never been searched or inspected. As everyone is warning against a human catastrophe by the leaders, some international officials continue with Rajavi’s game and do not take the alerts seriously.

We urge you to meet representatives of Sahar Family Foundation whenever you come to Baghdad and visit in particular the dozens of individuals who escaped the Camp recently and listen to what they have to say first hand.

The Iraqi newspaper “assabah” stated in its 23rd of January issue that fresh documents have At the beginning of the second year of the families’ sit-in:Why do we seek prosecution of Rajavi? been found which leave no doubt that the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO – Rajavi cult) took part in suppressing the Iraqi people and has supported terrorist acts inside the country.

The article refers to the cult’s terrorist acts against the people of Iran, crimes against the people of Iraq even after Saddam Hussein was toppled, and confining and torturing and even murdering its discontented members inside Ashraf military garrison.

The accounts referred to in this article in interviews by the governor of the city of Khalis as well as the chief of police of Diyala province had a great impact in the Iraqi media and media circles. These statements were quoted by a number of Iraq media which also covered the interview.

It is obvious that the Iraqi judiciary system and the government and politicians of Iraq as well as the people of this country seek Rajavi’s prosecution and trial and seek expulsion of the members of his cult from Iraq. Nowhere in the world has a foreign terrorist group been granted by the Americans so much privilege inside a host country that it could be considered a government within a government. This is of course the legacy left by Saddam Hussein for the people of Iraq, and the American forces still impose it on them supposedly for their own political interests.

Massoud Rajavi and the heads of his cult have a huge file in the Iraqi judiciary which is truly bigger than the one of Saddam Hussein and his aides. But the trial of the leaders of the cult has had the same fate as Maryam Rajavi’s file in Paris – she was arrested and charged with attempting terrorist activities against defectors and fraud and money laundry more than seven and a half years ago and she is still waiting trial – since for the time being she has been hired by the Americans and the Israelis.

The former members of the Rajavi cult and the families, as well as the families of the victims of terror and violence in Iraq and in Iran, have many claims filed against the cult and its leaders in the Iraqi courts. Each of these complaints which contain firm evidential documents is enough to put any person on trial. But the story for Rajavi, who has established one of the most destructive and notorious cults of personality and mind manipulation in history, is different since some imaginary political interests are at stake.

The Sahar Family Foundation has always welcomed the trial of Massoud Rajavi for his deeds, particularly against the members and the families. Such a trial should definitely take place with the presence of international observers according to all internationally acknowledged rules and regulations while accepting the recognized rights of the defendant. Our demand is not taking revenge and we do not even seek ordinary justice. We believe that the world must be aware of the destruction brought about by cults to society and the security of society. No one should any longer be trapped by a brainwashing system. No longer should the idealistic youth who desire to struggle for freedom and justice be allowed to be deceived into a mind manipulation organization.

We do hope for that day

Picketing families’ gathering against Ashraf gates

On Saturday 11th of December 2010, thousands of families of the Rajavi cult members trapped inside Ashraf garrison, Iraqi officials and tribe leaders, International and Iraqi reporters, and representatives of parties and organizations from various parts of Iraq gathered in front of Ashraf gate in order to protest against the violation of the most basic human rights by the US backed Rajavi cult in Iraq.

The families who are picketing outside Ashraf garrison for almost 11 months merely wish to visit their loved ones whom they have not seen for many years. This demand of course has been rejected by the cult leaders despite continuous call by the international and Iraqi bodies.

The Rajavi cult had set up strong horns and noise producing devices as well as parasite sending dishes to interrupt the supposedly interaction of the families with their relatives inside the garrison. Once the cult leaders learned that the reporters are going to be present in this gathering they decided to collect the instruments. The video record of the devices which were taken in the previous days was shown to the participants.

One Iraqi participant said after watching the video in which Rajavi tries to cut the voice of the families in this way and do not let his followers hear them; it is obvious that once he is in power in Iran what he would do to his opponents.

The Iraqi officials present in the gathering unanimously believed that just the American forces left in Iraq support the MKO and they stand against the Iraqi government and judiciary system who want the cult to leave Iraq and its leaders be prosecuted. They understand that the Rajavi cult does not respect human rights of its members and deprives them of medicine and treatments and access to information and even family visits.

This gathering had a good coverage in International and Iraqi media and two television channels had live reports on that.

Who supplied the Parasite equipment to the MKO?

On Thursday, December 9th 2010, the Committee in support of families of MKO hostages led by Dr. Nofe announced that the Committee is to organise a meeting next Saturday (11th December 2010) in front of the southern gates of the garrison which will be attended by the local tribe leaders as well as Iraqi political dignitaries and Iraqi and International reporters.

It is now about a month that the families have been granted permission to picket on the southern and eastern gates of the garrison as well. This allows the voice of families to reach their loved ones taken hostage by the leaders and the commanders of Mojahedin Khalq (Rajavi cult).

The cult leaders have been installing parasite equipment with all sizes of dishes as well as very powerful loud speakers in order to stop the voices reaching people inside the camp.

According to the doctors, the parasite signals used are harmful to the human nervous system and the powerful levels of radio frequencies used can seriously harm people, especially the elderly and sick families present by the gates. Although most of the families are sick and elderly, they have refused to leave and are taking the risk of facing yet another anti-human act of Massoud Rajavi (cult leader) only with the hope of releasing their children from the garrison.

The families have already started a legal procedure in the Iraqi Judicial system which is being processed. The leaders of Mojahedin Khalq (Rajavi cult) have now removed the equipment and parasite dishes since they discovered that reporters are present at the camp.

The pictures of this equipment have been presented to the Judicial system alongside the complaints made by the families. These pictures will be published in the near future.

Health and security of Ashraf residents cannot be safeguarded under the domination of Rajavi

Here and there we read and hear that such and such parliamentarian or human rights activist has demanded that the health and security of the residents of Ashraf Camp, the main base of the Rajavi cult in Iraq, be restored. It is very interesting to learn that some people are concerned Health and security of Ashraf residents cannot be safeguarded under the domination of Rajavi about the fate of 3000+ innocent followers of Rajavi trapped in his cult. The aim behind the establishment of Sahar Family Foundation was to follow the best interests of the Ashraf inhabitants. The question is of course how these interests can be fulfilled in the best way.

What has happened in the past decade clearly shows that those Ashraf residents who managed to escape the cultic garrison and were freed from the domination of Rajavi, eventually had a far better fate and enjoyed better and more health and security. The facts demonstrate that those who remain there are confronted by all sorts of threats and dangers such as facing death as the result of suicide, self-immolation, unintended shootings, various accidents and misfortunes, being prevented from leaving Ashraf to go to Baghdad or abroad for medical treatment and so on.

During the last decade, several hundred people have escaped Ashraf Camp and were freed. Many of them voluntarily decided to go back to Iran with the help from the International Committee of the Red Cross and they returned to their families and got their lives back through this reconciliation. The ICRC is continuously monitoring their situation and they can state that no-one faced any harm. The parliamentarians and the activists who are concerned about the case of the Ashraf residents can check this out with the Red Cross easily. Even those who were sent from Iraq, with the help of Saddam’s army, to Iran to conduct terrorism and sabotage activities and were arrested before or after their operations had a better destiny. Many of them have since formed a family in Iran or freely moved to another country.

Those separated members who did not wish to go to Iran were located in the American Forces’ camps and after a long wait they accepted the risks (less than the risks they faced in Ashraf of course) and moved to Europe. Some stayed in Iraq and are still waiting to leave the country to get to a third country. Up to now no security threat has threatened their lives, except on one occasion some years ago when a man crossing the border river between Turkey and Iraq was drowned.

All former members can witness that since they left Ashraf Camp they are in a far better physical and psychological situation. Many of them managed to overcome their chronic illnesses and gain their health again after a while. Inside the Camp their illnesses were ignored and they were even accused of pretending to be ill. The hard labour inside the Camp that the members had to suffer as a means to make them stop thinking has had enormous effects on them and most inhabitants suffer severe physical and mental disorders. Some inside the camp say in secret that the rifle and sickle on the MKO’s emblem should be replaced by a shovel and sweeping brush.

More than one hundred individuals have lost their lives inside Ashraf during recent years in different ways. The MKO terrorist cult claimed that more than 50 people were killed due to the U.S. bombing of Iraq during the 2003 invasion of the country. Eye witnesses who have been able to escape from Ashraf Camp say that none of them were killed in that way and many of those named were killed long before or after the bombings. Some of these people were killed on the direct order of Massoud Rajavi the cult leader. Hundreds of statements have been filed with the Iraqi Judiciary in the MKO’s lawsuit in this regard.

Rajavi has never given an explanation to these murders. His cult has not announced the details of even one case of a member losing their life due to the bombings. The cult agents are in the habit of recording every single moment on camera to use for propaganda. Not even one photograph or film was released to show a dead body or a place devastated by the bombings.

Those who are really concerned about the situation of Camp Ashraf’s residents probably know that Rajavi has on many occasions threatened that if he reaches the end of the line he will order all his followers in Ashraf to commit mass suicide or self-immolation, the same way that happened at Waco and in Guyana.
After the cult prevented Ms. Elham Fardipour from going to hospital in Baghdad and after the murder of Mr. Ahmad Razani, the concern of the families at the gates of Camp Ashraf has about the health and security of their loved ones inside the camp has escalated. They are rightfully frightened about the fate of their children and relatives since Rajavi does not think about anything but his childish goals.

Rajavi’s claim about Ashraf’s blockade by the Iraqi forces is totally false and is cultic propaganda. The leaders of the cult frequently travel between Ashraf and Jordan and Paris. Trucks full of medicine, food, fuel, and other essentials keep going into Ashraf Camp escorted by UN officials and American tanks. Those inhabitants who are fully trusted by the cult go to Baghdad for many reasons. The truth is that the Ashraf blockade is imposed by the cult only and the American forces who wish to protect this terrorist base fully assist them in this.

Call for Rescue of Camp Ashraf patients

Rajavi’s Cult prevents members’ leaving the Camp for medical treatment in Baghdad.

According to the latest information on Camp Ashraf, the Camp leaders do not permit the residents who suffer serious diseases to leave the camp in order Rajavi's Cult prevents members' leaving the Camp for medical treatment in Baghdad. that they are able to receive treatment in Baghdad hospitals. The leaders are especially crucial about those members who are considered as "problematic ". They fear the possibility of their escape in case of their departure from the isolated garrison of Ashraf.

For instance the reports show that Iraqi doctors have insisted on transfer of Ms. Elham Fardipour to hospital but the leaders of the cult procrastinate to send her to hospital since her runaway as a member of Leadership Council might reveal confidential information of the group’s internal relationships.

There are some residents who have been diagnosed of cancer but they are not allowed to go under proper treatment in hospital.

In some cases, MKO leaders have used a trick to prohibit the patient’s escape and to watch him all the time in order that his information on inside of the Camp is not infiltrated by any one. They send to the hospital another member – a more reliable one – with him. The supervisor has to monitor the patient otherwise the group might lose the member.

The bottom line is that barring the prisoners from receiving medical care is a war crime and should be brought into justice in war criminal court. The reports show that several members have so far died in Ashraf Garrison due to lack of proper medical treatment.

We do not know how we can inform you about the contents of this letter, as there is no means to Iraq authorities are trying to take you to hospital but Mojahedin Khalq refuse access contact trapped members inside cultic Ashraf garrison. The leaders of the Rajavi cult do not let you go to the hospital in Baghdad and yet they claim that the Iraqis are doing so. Truly who is stopping you to go out of Ashraf garrison except the leaders of the cult?

The truth is that the Iraqi authorities and the Iraqi forces have no objections for a nurse and an interpreter to accompany you to the hospital in Baghdad, but the cult demands one of its officials to escort you. This might be quite normal for those mind manipulated members of the cult that no one (even MKO members in Europe and America) is allowed to move to anywhere without being accompanied by a “minder”!, but this is not normal for those who are not living in a cult. The MKO leaders wish to send a minder along with you to make sure that you do not make any contact with the outside world. They do not want you to be away from the regular brainwashing practices for even one night. You think the people outside the cult would understand such a humiliation to an individual?

You might know that it is now more than 9 months that some families of the members seized inside Ashraf garrison are picketing outside Ashraf gates and demand to visit their loved ones after many years. The cult claims that their voice bothers those staying in the hospital; therefore you surely have heard them. Perhaps we can let you know about the context of this letter in this manner. What is your opinion about these families? Do they have the right to visit and embrace their relatives after so many years or not?

We have no doubt that the cult leaders have forced you to talk in front of the camera and pushed you to enter their political game in favor of certain cliques against the Iraqi government. And yet the MKO claims that the presence of the families outside Ashraf garrison and their demand of visiting their loved ones is a political showoff. This has certainly occurred to your mind that the cult leaders do not care about your health and they only think about their political purposes. Their intention is to misuse your situation to create controversy in order to cover up their own deadlock. Why is the cult in a situation that the leaders are scared to let a high ranking member to stay outside Ashraf garrison for a short period and be away from the tight control of the cult?

Actually the government and the authorities of Iraq as well as the Iraqi forces have been ever so compliant against a foreign terrorist organization inside their country. The MKO cult has privileges inside Iraq that many citizens do not have in their own country. No foreign force has experienced the extent of freedom that the MKO is enjoying in Iraq. The MKO terrorist cult backed by warmongering elements in the western policy does interfere inside Iraq’s internal affairs and consider the cult above the law in this country. But what is important is that some have been sacrificed and Rajavi does not care about their comfort and their lives and sees them as his own slaves and tools. Should everything be done and be used for the desires of the leader?

We in the SFF executive committee wholeheartedly wish you well very soon and we would do all in our capacity to make sure that you would be moved to the hospital in Baghdad, Although the cult leaders do not wish so and they would do anything to stop you going to the hospital. We are certain that Rajavi is willing to see something happens to you and he would have some fuel for his propaganda machine.

Letter of Sahar Family Foundation to the UN Secretary General

Demanding the UN Secretary General to send a Special Rapporteur for human rights to visit Camp Ashraf in Iraq along with the former members and the families of present members

You may be aware that Camp Ashraf in Iraq is the main base of Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO). This group has been designated as a terrorist destructive cult by the United States which is protecting it and by Iraq which is hosting it.

At the present time more than 3000 individuals are living in this camp under the cultic training of Massoud Rajavi (leader of MKO) and tough cultic regulations are imposed on them. These people do not have any right to demand contact with the outside world and their families. They live in a totally isolated atmosphere. The way that the leaders of the cult rule their followers is in such a manner that it is a clear example of violating their most basic human rights and an example of new slavery in our era.

Since the inhabitants of the camp have been away from the free world for many years and they are constantly under the influence of the leaders, they are not in a normal physical and mental condition. The phobic fear of the outside world has been planted inside the minds of these victims in such way that they can no longer think or act freely and they have become like robots which carry out the demands of the leaders without thinking.

Since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in Iraq until now, roughly one thousand members of the MKO have managed to leave the cult at different times. Most of these persons have reported dreadful incidents of systematic brainwashing, solitary confinement, torture, and even murder inside Camp Ashraf. These reports and witness statements have been registered in the Iraqi Judiciary System. Some international human rights organizations have approved these reports.
It is now more than six months that a great number of families of the captive members inside Camp Ashraf have been picketing outside the main gate of the cultic camp under very challenging circumstances. They have announced that they will not leave the place unless they see their beloved ones. The leaders of the cult of course have denied their just demand and in reaction they have mobilized their psychologically manipulated victims to harass the families. Sahar Family Foundation is writing this letter on behalf of these families.

Is it not necessary in such circumstances to send a Special Rapporteur from the United Nations to visit the camp along with the former members who are familiar with the internal situation of the camp, as well as the families of present members? Most certainly the leaders of the cult would not accept such a demand. In this case doesn’t the UN and the UN Security Council possess tools to force the MKO to comply with this demand? In view of the suffering families, the minimum that the Human Rights Commission of the UN can do is to bring up this issue and if the leaders of the cult did not accept such an inspection, to base its report on what the former members have to say from their long experience (some even from their childhood) with the group.

The reports issued by the US Department of State since 1994 up to the present time (2010) and their contents as well as the 2009 report issued by the RAND institute about the MKO in Iraq and the 2005 report of Human Rights Watch about the violation of human rights inside the cult and the comments given by the Prime Minister and the President of Iraq on several occasions as well as the Iraq security authorities’ comments and the continuous confession of the MKO leaders about violation of human rights are enough to condemn the leaders even without trial. If not, at least these should be basis enough for the UN to instigate an investigations into the human rights violations and send a Special Rapporteur to visit this isolated, closed and secretive camp and issue a report. Surely if the leaders of the MKO were honest they would not prevent a mother visiting her son and if the followers have divorced their spouses and their children and the normal life willingly, there is no need to hide things and disconnecting the members from the outside world.

All that the suffering families wish to be assured of is the mental and physical health of their relatives inside the camp as it is the most basic right of an individual to enjoy every Article of the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Now, regardless of any political interests, the systematic violation of such rights cannot be acceptable and cannot be ignored. The families cannot help but blame the UN if it turns its face in a different direction and does not fulfill its duties. If the UN in Iraq does not meet these requests for any reason it should be held responsible for misconduct in these matters. One can say that the UN could do something but they did not.
The suffering families picketing outside Camp Ashraf in Iraq are looking forward for your reply and your action.
