AS the head of the judiciary committee of Belgium, Mr. Willems also overlooks the state of cults within Belgium. Mr. Behzad Alishahi & Karim Haggi explained in detail their own personal experience with the cult of Mojahedin. They went into great details of the inner workings of this cult (MKO).

Mr. Willems confirmed that Belgium regards the Mojahedin-E khalq of Iran as a dangerous cult, and that his talks with both gentlemen further confirmed his stance.

Finally there was discussion on how to go about limiting the works of the cult of Mojahedin.

According to the correspondent of Baztab, this report contained interviews with former members of Mojahedin-e Khalq.

The report of RTBF had traveled to Iran to interview some former MKO members. The report pointed to the visit of Maryam Rajavi to Belgium and her meeting with the head of Belgian senate. Then, comments of former members of MKO on human rights abuses in the organization, terrorist operations inside Iran, obligatory divorces, pressing the members to commit suicide and  were covered in the report. The report also referred to the recent report of HRW on repeated abuses of human rights inside the organization.

Finally, reporter suggests European officials ask her questions on these accusations in the case she travels again.

It should be noted that two months ago, a number of MKO members shocked observers and public opinion by traveling to Belgium and Norway.

The French-language TV interviewed some of the former members of the MKO who said they were duped by the terrorist grouplet.

One of them, named Arash Sametipour, explained the methods of the MKO and how he was tricked by the grouplet.

He said the MKO assigned him to carry out terror acts in Iran and advised him to commit suicide if he failed in his terror mission.

Another woman, whose name was not mentioned, said that when she joined the group in Iraq she was told that she must divorce her husband physically and mentally.

The Belgian TV in the report braodcast at the weekend also noted the report published by the Human Rights Watch on the human rights violations of the MKO in Iraq — how it tortured and used violent methods and ran secret cells for those members who wanted to leave the grouplet. RTBF also referred to the visit of the leader of the MKO terror grouplet, Maryam Rajavi, to the Belgian Senate in October which caused a big political uproar both in Iran and Belgium.

The MKO’s show was great. However, as soon as she entered the Senate building, MKO’s propagandistic theatre came to a halt. To justify his illegal act of inviting the head of a terrorist group, Vankrunkelsven Patrik referred to a legislation according to which senators can invite individuals. (1)

Spokesperson for the foreign ministry of Belgium said Rajavi was not in Brussels as the representative of Mojahedin, which is a terrorist organization.

The head of the Senate reminds that "this meeting is not official". (2)

Instead, Maryam Rajavi tried to compensate her unimportant visit by wishing to visit other European countries (3); she took advantage of Iran’s sensitivity on her visit and claimed that her visit was very important.

Taking part in a press conference with 5 Belgian senators, Rajavi explained her group’s major problem (Iraq’s decision to expel the group from Iraq) and asked European countries to prevent this by lifting the name of MKO from terror list.

It seems that the comments by Belgian Foreign Ministry (that Maryam Rajavi’s presence in Belgium has nothing to do with the terrorist MKO) show the policy of Belgian government and other European countries on the MKO and this leads to the failure of the purpose of the visit (posing the name of MKO).

Another goal the MKO may pursue in the following days is to perform similar activities in European countries to disrupt the relationship of Iran with these countries.

However, it seems that the real message behind these visits is from European governments that want to say to Iran that they might give more freedom to the MKO if Iran doesn’t accept their conditions.

European politicians have always tried to show that they don’t need Iran in their relations. They think that the issue of MKO and restricting this group is of great importance for Iran.

Also, a few months ago, when restrictions on Maryam Rajavi were lifted by French authorities, European side was trying to put pressure on Iran to accept the conditions.

Europeans want to use this card in their game without taking an official stance in favor this group because they never believe in the MKO as an alternative.

On the other hand, with any activity by the MKO, Iran accuses the European side of resorting to double standards in fighting terrorism; in fact, Iran forces Europeans to renounce terrorism and MKO.

Europeans’ use of the MKO shows that Iran has the upper hand in the game. They know that this card is not valuable but they have no other option. They are well aware that if their ties with Iran worsen, they will have to be pioneers for restricting the MKO and normalizing the relations with Tehran.

Belgian news agency, BELGA, quoted de Gucht saying that such a meeting weakens Belgium’s position in the fight against terrorism.

De Gucht regretted that some personalities judged opportune to meet Mrs. Rajavi who appeared to represent a peaceful movement but her movement, said de Gucht, is a cover up for the MKO, a group which has been since 2002 on the US terrorist list and also on the EU terror list.

De Gucht noted that the MKO has committed terror acts in Iran and elsewhere and practiced torture.

The minister was answering to a question in the Senate by senator Francois-Xavier De Donnea regarding the meeting on Tuesday between Rajavi in a side salon of the Senate with the president of the Senate Mrs. Anne-Marie Lizin and five other senators.

Lizin had underlined that the meeting with Rajavi was unofficial.

De Gucht said that as a consequence of the meeting the Iranian government has postponed the acceptance of the credential letter of the new Belgian ambassador to Tehran.

He said it is essential to reinforce the role of the civil society and contacts with the opposition but in a sensible manner.

In this context, he said, Belgium cannot permit the wastage of its diplomatic credit through gestures which do not serve the cause of democracy and undermines the coherence of Belgium’s policy.
