Based on the news from the insiders, protesters who are afraid of voicing their dissent, write slogans against the group’s leaders on the walls of bathrooms where they are not under the supervision of commanders. This has happened on different occasions which indicates the rise in the number of dissident members who want to leave the group but they are intimidated by verbal and physical abuse on daily cult jargons.

Although most members of MEK refuse to express their opinions openly because of fears of torture and abuse committed by the group commanders, the increase in the number of defections from the group since its arrival in Albania has been indicative of an increase of dissatisfaction.
According to unofficial data, since the resettlement of MEK in Albania, more than 400 people have left this group, regardless of those suspicious cases who have been killed mysteriously inside Camp Ashraf 3 in Manez, Durres, Albania.
The rise of protests in the Cult of Rajavi has plunged the leaders of the group into alternative ways to prevent the spread of protests among the rank and file, in addition to conventional methods of the organization, including solitary confinement and peer pressure. In this regard, all members of the group have been ordered to sign an engagement letter to stay in the group until the overthrow of the Iranian government –which according to the leaders of the group has been always close during the past forty years.

Born in 1952 in a politically active family, Ashraf Rabiei was grown up in Tehran. Her brother was a member of the leading council of the early Mujahedin Khalq establishment.

Ashraf was a university student when she joined the MKO in 1972. She was arrested several times by the Shah’s Intelligence Agency (SAVAK) during her organizational activities before the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

She married Akbar Nabavi a religious high-ranking member of the group in the early years of her membership in the MKO. Nabavi killed himself with cyanide capsule in a clash with shah’s security forces in 1976. Meanwhile Ashraf was injured in the explosion of a hand-made bomb that she was making in their safe house; she was then arrested for the third time.

Meeting Massoud Rajavi in Evin

A mysterious visit with Massoud Rajavi in Evin prison turned Ashraf into an ardent promoter of Massoud. Since the alleged visit, Ashraf began promoting Rajavi’s rhetoric as the only leader of the MKO. They got married in 1980.

After the Iranian revolution, Ashraf Rabiei together with some other female members of the group including Maryam Qajar Azdanlou (Maryam Rajavi –the current leader of the group) actively worked for recruiting female students.

In 1980, Ashraf Rabeie was in the list of candidates of the MKO for the Iranian Parliament elections but she was not elected by people as well as other candidates of the group.

By the beginning of the MKO’s armed struggle against the Islamic Republic in June 1980, the clashes between the Iranian newly established government and the MKO fighters broke out. Two months later, Massoud Rajavi fled Iran for France and left Ashraf and their one-year-old son Mostafa in Iran.

After the departure of Rajavi, Mousa Khiabani became the commander of the MKO in Iran in violent operations. He and Ashraf were in the same team house when the Iranian security forces attacked the house on February 8th, 1982. Ashraf and Mousa and eighteen other MKO members were killed in the clash.

Her son, Mostafa survived the battle and was then yielded to to his grandparents by the security guards. Mostafa is reportedly living in Albania now.

Even when he came out of the MEK some ex-members in Albania were suspicious – he had too much money and too much backing.

Now he’s turned around to repeat the things Rajavi says but this time in the guise of an ex-member. Last week he published a list of four hundred names in his new top-notch website claiming they are the names of people who have been tortured by Rajavi in Camp Ashraf.

When examined more closely it is clear this has been done to muddy the waters. Iran Interlink has been contacted by over 30 people saying their name is on this list, but they have not been tortured by the MEK. Looking at the names it is clear that Naderi has listed those who talk against the MEK as torturers, while others, who don’t speak out, are listed as victims.

A lot of FB posts and articles have been published exposing the lie behind Naderi’s claim. One, for example, showed that he was in prison in Iran at the time he was accused of torturing others in Camp Ashraf. Everyone says Rajavi will get nowhere by doing this since nobody believes these lies anymore. A couple of people wrote about Naderi, saying they had seen him in the MEK prison working for the MEK himself.

His picture – apparently while he was not out of the MEK – lying on beach sunbathing was published. He was clearly granted a particular lifestyle by Rajavi in exchange for working for them.

Danaifar had earlier announced that Iran had pardoned all the residents of the Camp Ashraf except for less than 100 individuals who have criminal records.

The Iranian ambassador said on Sunday that Iran would not grant amnesty to the ringleaders of the terrorist group, adding that “those whose hands are not stained with the blood of Iranian citizens will be pardoned.”

Danaifar noted that during UN envoy’s visit to Camp Ashraf, the majority of the group expressed willingness to return to Iran in Iraq; however, the MKO leaders do not allow them to leave the camp and they have “somehow taken those members as hostages.”

The MKO, which has carried out numerous acts of terror and violence against Iranian civilians and government officials, fled to Iraq in 1986, where it enjoyed the support of Iraq’s executed dictator Saddam Hussein and set up the camp in Diyala Province, near the Iranian border.

The terrorist group is also known to have collaborated with Saddam in the bloody repression of the 1991 Shia Muslims in southern Iraq and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds in the country’s north.

Iran has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to expel the group, but the US has blocked the expulsion by mounting pressure on the Iraqi government.

The Iraqi government has released 36 members of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) detained in a July raid on the notorious Camp Ashraf in Diyala province.

Shahriar Kia, a spokesman for the exiled terrorist group, said the inmates were released on Wednesday ‘after more than two months of hunger strike’, and were immediately taken to Ashraf medical center for treatment.

He said the detainees had recently refused to take water, too, and were in critical condition. The claim could not be independently verified.

The prisoners were arrested by Iraqi police on rioting charges after they clashed with security forces during the July 28-29 operation at Camp Ashraf, north of Baghdad, and were held in custody on grounds of illegal entry into the Iraqi soil.

In September, US Ambassador Christopher Hill vowed to press the Baghdad government not to repatriate Camp Ashraf residents to Iran.

MKO members, together with their families, have lived in Ashraf since former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein allowed the armed rebels to erect bases on the Iraqi territory during the 1980-88 war with Iran.

Following the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, the camp was protected by the US military until its 3,500 residents were shifted to Iraqi jurisdiction last January under a bilateral security pact.

The MKO, listed as a terror group by both Tehran and Washington, assassinated several leading Iranian figures after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

It also engaged in bombings and brutal mass killing of civilians, and served as a military arm for the Baath regime in Baghdad during the Iraqi-Iranian war.

BAGHDAD – The number of Iraqi soldiers and police has strained the government’s budget, hindering reconstruction projects, Iraq’s prime minister said Wednesday.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said more of next year’s budget should go to reconstruction rather than security, setting the stage for possible layoffs at a time when questions have been raised about the ability of its existing force to keep a lid on the violence.

The comments came the same day that a group of 36 Iranian opposition members were returned to an exile camp in northern Iraq after nearly three months in Iraqi custody and despite an ongoing effort to expel them, a government spokesman said.

About three-quarters of Iraq’s budget was used to pay salaries and operations of Iraq’s more than 640,000 security personnel, al-Maliki said.

"This is a dangerous phenomena for the Iraqi economy," he told a group of businessmen gathered in Baghdad. "Instead of allocating 74 percent of this year’s budget to pay salaries, we think that a big part of our budget should go to construction."

The comments came a week after Iraq’s deputy finance minister said that although the proposed $70 billion budget for 2010 is almost 20 percent higher than the one this year, it still falls short of the country’s funding needs.

It is unclear when parliament will vote on the budget.

The 36 Iranian opposition members were returned to Camp Ashraf, where nearly 3,500 members of the People’s Mujahedeen of Iran have been confined since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, while the Iraqi government works to find a country other than Iran that will take them, said spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh.

"We demand the international community help provide a place for them because they are unwanted persons," al-Dabbagh said. "We are looking for a country that is willing to accept them."

The 36 were detained in July following a deadly melee between the exiles and Iraqi security forces at the camp, an incident that caused an international outcry from human rights groups and raised questions about the Shiite-dominated Iraqi government’s ties to Iran.

The men were detained during two days of confrontations at the camp that left at least 11 people dead — shot, beaten or run over by military vehicles, officials have said.
The opposition group claimed the 36 were on a hunger strike during their detention and were in a weakened state when they arrived back at Camp Ashraf.

The Iraqi government has said it was trying to establish a police station at Camp Ashraf and blamed the violence on the resistance by Iranian exiles.
Iraqi judicial authorities did not pursue charges against the men after their detention and ordered them freed.

The group, known as MEK, operated for years in Iraq under Saddam Hussein. The U.S. military turned over responsibility for Camp Ashraf to the Iraqis on Jan. 1.
The U.S. considers MEK a terrorist organization, though one that has provided the Americans with intelligence on Iran. The European Union removed it from its terror list this year.

Police carrying detainees Camp Ashraf to Baghdad

Diyala / Aswat al-Iraq: A security source in the Diyala police force said that the police leader quoted on Thursday and official media reported that the Camp Ashraf detainees in custody in the capital, Baghdad, had been transferred to an unknown location.

A source told (Voices of Iraq) that "the Iraqi forces, a joint police and army force today (Thursday) transferred the 36 detainees from the Ashraf residents from the prison of Khalis (15 km) north of Baquba to Baghdad."

The source pointed out that "the transfer of detainees was based on instructions from higher circles", without giving further details.

The official spokesman for the Mojahedin Organization of Iran, Mehdi Oghbaii, told (Voices of Iraq) that "Iraqi forces today (Thursday) transferred the 36 detainees from the members in Ashraf from police custody in the district of Khalis, to an unknown location."

It will be recalled that an investigating judge issued an exclusive, three days before a decision to release 36 imprisoned members of the [MKO] after being arrested since the end of July 2009 against the backdrop of clashes that occurred between police and members of the organization, which killed two and wounded 60 policemen, while 11 were killed and 400 other members of the MKO wounded.

Camp Ashraf [now renamed Camp New Iraq] is located near Khalis (15 km) north of Baquba in Diyala province, which lies 57 km northeast of the capital Baghdad.
