In its statement on X platform, Fox News indicated that 150 American politicians have openly betrayed the freedom-seeking people of Iran. They are imposing an ideology that has been actually acting against freedom and democracy for near 5 decades.

According to the report, the resolution, led by Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., claims support for the Iranian people and their stated desire for a “democratic, secular and non-nuclear” Iran through regime change by the MEK which is a formerly terrorist designated group by the US State Department. The group has a dark background and it is despised by the Iranian public.

Fox News’s statement was slammed by thousands of Iranians around the world using the hashtags #MEKTerrorists and #NCRTerrorists. The users tried to inform the US politicians that the MEK can not be considered as the alternative of the Iranian government based on a large number of atrocities committed by its disappeared leader, Massoud Rajavi and its public leader, Maryam Rajavi.

comment on Foxnews statement on X

Here’s a brief account of the documented violent and terrorist activities attributed to the MEK/PMOI/NCRI/MKO:

Terrorist Attacks and Murder of Americans

Founded in 1965 as an Islamist-Marxist militia, MEK was a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) from 1997-2012.

In the 1970s, it assassinated U.S. military personnel in Iran—colonels Paul R. Shaffer, John H. Turner, and Lewis Lee Hawkins—targeting them as “imperialist” symbols.
It bombed Western businesses and, in 1992, attacked Iranian diplomatic missions in 10 countries, including the U.S. In 2003, 170 MEK members including their she-guru Maryam Rajavi, were arrested in France for plotting terrorist attacks. The French Police confiscated large amounts of money and documents of money laundering. Eventually dozens of group members committed self-immolation to protest the arrest of Maryam Rajavi. Two women died.

Alliance with Saddam Hussein

Exiled from Iran in the 1980s, MEK allied with Saddam Hussein, who funded and armed it. During the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), it fought Iran from Camp Ashraf. In 1988, its Operation Forough Javidan—a failed invasion—killed thousands of Iranian civilians, deepening its infamy as a traitor group among Iranians.

Crimes Against Humanity in Iraq

In 2010, the Iraqi High Tribunal issued arrest warrants for 39 MEK members, including Maryam Rajavi, for crimes against humanity tied to their role in suppressing the 1991 uprisings of Kurds and Shiites under Saddam’s regime, further evidencing their brutality and collaboration with dictators. “Take the Kurds under the tanks! Keep your bullets for Iranian soldiers!”, a very famous quote by Maryam to her forces in the operation to suppress Kurds.

Torture and Human Rights Abuses

MEK operates as a cult, enforcing control through horrific abuses. Defectors report torture, solitary confinement, and brainwashing. Women face oppressions, while families are separated, with children trafficked to Europe. Female members were coerced into sexual relations with Masoud Rajavi, with Maryam Rajavi sanctioning it via “vows.” Refusal meant disappearance.

Oppressive Practices

MEK claims to support democracy, but enforces mandatory hijab, gender segregation, sexual control, and emotional isolation. Members lack outside media, limited to “Mujahedin television” looping Rajavi speeches. Its theocratic practices clash with Iranians aspirations for democracy.

Propaganda and Deception

MEK runs “troll farms” in Albania, with over 1,000 members using fake accounts to spread pro-Rajavi propaganda in English, Farsi, and Arabic across social media and news comments. It hides behind aliases like the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), falsely posing as a democratic option. Defectors reveal orders to praise pro-MEK figures and attack critics.

Anti-American nature

Backing the U.S. Embassy takeover and hostage crisis, the MEK chanted anti-American slogans. “May America be annihilated” and “Death to America by blood and bonfire”—show its radicalism. After clashing with the Iranian government, it turned to violence and exile, never shedding its authoritarian core.

Removal from FTO list

The U.S. delisted MEK in 2012 after heavy lobbying, but internal reports flagged its violent history and cult-like nature. This wasn’t a clean slate—its past, including killing Americans and aiding Saddam, lingers. In Albania, ex-military intelligence described “extraordinary psychological violence and threats of murder” in its camps.

Now, the Iranian people ask Fox News a crucial question: as a media outlet that claims to stand for freedom and democracy, based on which survey, which vote of the people, which historical value, and what legitimacy did you decide to recognize a cult-like terrorist group—one that itself opposes the freedom of the Iranian people—as a symbol of freedom and democracy?
In fact, there has been no survey or poll. The American sponsors of the MEK just follow the rule of money. The MEK/ NCR was a terrorist cult but it turned out to be “freedom fighter” after it paid millions of dollars as speaking fees to the high-profile figures.

Mazda Parsi

Fox News, reported that bipartisan group of 151 lawmakers is rallying around a resolution to support the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK).
