A hashtag uniting those who detest the anti-Iran Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) is accumulating a significant following on Twitter.<\/p>\n
Online users are hotly debating a recent annual gathering of the anti-Iran terrorist group, which turned out to have gathered largely a disinterested audience as mere extras.<\/p>\n
The MKO has a dark history of assassinations and bombings against the Iranian government and nation. It notoriously sided with former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in his eight-year war against Iran in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
Out of the nearly 17,000 Iranians killed in terrorist assaults since the victory of Iran\u2019s 1979 Islamic Revolution, about 12,000 have fallen victim to MKO\u2019s acts of terror.<\/p>\n
The terrorist group also helped Saddam in his brutal crackdown on his opponents.<\/p>\n
Ticket to Paris<\/p>\n
The gathering of the group last Saturday featured a ragtag crowd of youths, who would keep seizing opportunities to escape the venue for a snack or a nap.<\/p>\n
Later, some of them revealed they could not make much or any sense of what was being talked about at the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey invited you?\u201d one was asked. \u201cYes, of course, like everybody here,\u201d he answered.<\/p>\n
\u201cHave you been inside? And\u2026 you don\u2019t understand [what is being talked about]?\u201d he was again asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, nothing. [Just] speaking, speaking\u2026, and I wanna sleep. And we come outside, drink, eat, relax\u2026,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou came all over here just for the meeting?\u201d a female was asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, and to Paris\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey paid for the whole trip, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, we have to pay something, but a small amount of money. I think it is a strategy to bring us here, and because it\u2019s Paris, and they made it very cheap so they can have their rally,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The ticket to Paris also reportedly wooed in many Afghans, who said they knew naught about Iranian politics.<\/p>\n\n
Also present at the meeting were Newt Gingrich, a former speaker of the US House of Representatives and a close associate of US President Donald Trump, as well as former US official John Bolton, who are two habitu\u00e9s to anti-Iran gatherings.<\/p>\n\n
Preaching democracy<\/strong><\/p>\n Some European and Saudi officials, including former Saudi Arabian spy chief, Prince Turki al-Faisal, also addressed the meeting.<\/p>\n Paris had hosted a previous convention of the MKO, which Faisal also attended.<\/p>\n During the events, MKO ringleader Maryam Rajavi and Faisal have been campaigning for the \u201cestablishment of democracy in Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n This is while elections are held in Iran regularly, as opposed to Saudi Arabia, where an absolute monarchy rules and where the ruling family has put its name on the country.<\/p>\n Online reactions<\/strong><\/p>\n Those contributing to #IranHatesMEK \u2014 MEK is another acronym for the MKO \u2014 are reminding the world of the atrocities and are questioning Paris, Riyadh, and Washington\u2019s sponsorship of the group\u2019s continued existence.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Last One\u201d\u200f uploaded a picture of Maryam Rajavi and wrote, \u201cNot any thief has mask on his\/her face! Not any terrorist has gun in his\/her hand!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cGood old days: #MEK leader received shelter & fund from Saddam when he was a US ally in 1980s,\u201d wrote another user, who incorporated a picture featuring a handshake between former MKO head Massoud Rajavi and Saddam Hussein.<\/p>\n Another user posted a picture purportedly showing an MKO member \u201cburying Iraqi Kurd children alive.\u201d (See below)<\/p>\n \u201cTraitors that sided with a foreign country to attack their own no longer have the right to call themselves Iranian,\u201d read another tweet.<\/p>\n \u201cIf France was going to react to the massacres committed by #MEK, the #EiffelTower would blackout like forever,\u201d and \u201cHey France!
