Iran: DC Plot Suspect a High Profile MeK Member

State News Agency Speculates Plot Was Effort to Frame Iran.

Adding to the growing intrigue over last week’s DC assassination plot, the Iranian government State News Agency Speculates Plot Was Effort to Frame Iranrevealed today that Gholam Shakuri, who US officials claimed was a member of the Quds Force, is actually a “key member” of the Mujahedeen e-Khalq (MeK), a State Department listed terrorist organization hostile to the Iranian government.

Shakuri was accused of being behind the plot along with the much more widely covered Mansour Arbabsiar, a US citizen and failed used car salesman from Texas who officials speculated was brought into the plot because a history of living in Texas meant he might be able to find Mexican drug cartel leaders to recruit.

Shakuri was charged, but never actually arrested, and the Justice Department insisted that he is “still at large.” Iran appears to have been looking for him for awhile as well, and says he has used forged Iranian passports with the names Ali Shakuri or Gholam-Hussein Shakuri as well.
Iran’s state news agency Mehr speculated that the plot was actually an MeK effort to implicate Iran, and if this is the case it appears to have worked quite well since even though a number of experts have shrugged the plot off as nonsensical US officials continue to rail against Iran and vow revenge.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group

MKO offers bribes to get off terror list

The assassination plot allegation against Iran attempts to divert attention from US and Israeli support of the Mujahedin-e Khalq and the activities of the organization inside Iran.
Mark Dankof, former US Senate candidate
Press TV talks with Mark Dankof, former US Senate candidate in San Antonio, who names prominent Americans who have received money from the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) and who push for the MEK to be removed from the list of international terrorist organizations. He also postulates Israeli intelligence and American neo-conservative involvement in an allegation of an attempt to assassinate a Saudi envoy.

Following is a transcript of the interview.

Press TV: In terms of the UN, the US has sent this alleged Iranian plot to the UN Security Council. But the UNSC is not a court. No court has substantiated the allegations. So what do you think is behind the move by the US?

Mark Dankof: I think what you have here is a clear cut case of Israeli intelligence and American intelligence being involved in trying to pin something phony on the Iranian government. No one who is a responsible international observer or commentator or intelligence expert believes that the President Ahmadinejad would be foolish enough to concoct a plot like this, much less to use as unstable a source as this Arbabsiar in terms of what his public profile is; and to do so with an unproven source allegedly tied to a Mexican drug cartel in Mexico.

And to be having open conversations with these people over open phone waves easily intercepted by the American National Security Agency and conducting bank transactions that would be totally traceable to the players – as I understand it the money that came from these banks that supposedly was used to pay these alleged criminal suspects is from non-Iranian banks.

Philip Geraldi of the Council of National Interests – a long time American CIA station chief – has branded this whole thing for what it is. Gareth Porter and Pepe Escobar of the Asian Times and others have clearly pointed to the phony character of this and the desperate character of the whole thing in terms of Barak Obama and Eric Holder [US Attorney General] working in conjunction with Israeli intelligence and with these American neo-conservatives in the United States government, they’ve been angling for an American Israeli war with Iran for a long time. They’re trying to create a casus belli here.

Press TV: The protests going on inside the US – Don’t they have to be worried about that? At the same time we look at what they’re doing overseas – these drone attacks that have killed many people in several countries from Pakistan to Somalia – there was a report that 27 civilians died in Southern Somalia from these drone attacks.

Again the UN has been silent. Why doesn’t the UN take Washington to account? Of course there is speculation – has the UN become part of the US war machine in this case?

Mark Dankof: Well I think that’s exactly right. In this particular case it’s pathetic that the UN has not taken a more definitive position on these drone attacks and so forth, which are not simply reprehensible, they’re counter productive.

One may presume for every civilian killed in these drone attacks that the United States is probably facilitating the recruitment of an additional 100 to 500 insurgents to oppose it around the world in the future.

The other thing that comes up in all of this of course is that we are seeing attention diverted from what the United States and Israel are clearly doing in conjunction with groups like the Iran Policy Committee; to work with the Mujahedin-e Khalq in Iran to facilitate the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists and to be involved in other black intelligence operations within Iran that are clearly both illegal and counterproductive.

Raymond Tanter who is the head of the Iran Policy Committee – Raymond Tanter of Georgetown University has all kinds of provable links with Israeli intelligence and Israeli think tanks. His colleague Clare Lopez is an agent for the CIA and they have been at the forefront of this attempt to have the Mujahedin-e Khalq removed from the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations in the United States.

And when you see the number of people who have been receiving money from the Mujahedin-e Khalq to engage in public relations work on behalf of the MEK in the US – this includes Tom Ridge, Rudolph Giuliani, several past members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a former FBI counter intelligence expert. And Rudolph Giuliani of course seems to be kind of spearheading these efforts – Patrick Kennedy the son of Ted Kennedy received 25,000 or 50,000 dollars from these folks.

It’s clear that the biggest player in this whole thing is the Israeli MOSSAD and again these American neo-conservatives who want a war with Iran. And whether it’s legitimizing the MEK in this country and having blind eyes and deaf ears turned to things that they’re doing that are terroristic in Iran with the full sponsorship of the US and Israel.

Or it’s a simple question of trying to concoct something phony against the Iranian government.
This is clearly what’s going on here.
And Americans left, right and center should stand opposed to something that is evil – that is immoral and that is not in the own country’s interests and that certainly is facilitating crimes against other people abroad.

Press TV: Maybe the US is not the one that is being proactive here – maybe as you mentioned Israel is pushing the US based on the visit Leon Panetta made to Israel? Or, is it Saudi Arabia doing this because Saudi Arabia has asked for this case to also go to the UN?

Mark Dankof: I think this is where the interests of Israel and the interests of the United States, or at least the elite that controls the United States let me put it that way, and the Saudi Arabians absolutely coincide.

This is why these are the three powers principally involved with the Mujahedin-e Khalq and funding them and their terrorist operations against the Iranian people and the present government in Iran.

And clearly when we look at this whole situation with the public statements that Netanyahu has made; the public statements that Avigdor Lieberman has made – the foreign minister of Israel – And again just look at this laundry list of American neo-conservative in the United States ranging from Kenneth R. Timmerman and Raymond Tanter and Clare Lopez over to Rudolph Giuliani and others, one begins to have a very clear picture as to what is going on here.

And that is that the project for the New American Century crowd – now know as the foreign policy initiative; the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee; and the Jewish Institute of National Security Affairs – JENSA – are in the forefront of manipulating these individuals and groups and events to try and produce what it is that Netanyahu wants; what it is the Israelis want; and what it is that many in the banking community and the military industrial complex want – and that is an American-Israeli war with Iran.

Innocent people will be killed. Untold numbers of innocent people will be killed on all sides if something like this were to take place. And I find it interesting that looking at where Sara Flounders sits on the political spectrum and there you have Jim Fetzer and I – presumably kind of at the other end of the political spectrum – agreeing on this. This poses a lot of questions for an American political and military and economic and media establishment that’s having increasing trouble selling this pack of lies not simply to the international community, but also to the America public.

MEK Camp Ashraf

UN must tread carefully in dealing with Camp Ashraf

Trapped in the camp Trapped in Camp Ashraf

As the Mojahedin-e Khalq (aka; MEK, MKO) is painfully slowly being nudged toward compliance with both international and Iraqi law over its activities inside Camp Ashraf in Iraq, cult experts warn that external agencies must be wary of falling foul of cultic manipulation techniques as the group struggles to maintain its hold over the 3400 Iranians trapped inside.

Efforts over the summer by US Ambassador Lawrence Butler to convince the MEK leader Massoud Rajavi that he would have to act on the Government of Iraq’s deadline to leave Iraq by the end of 2011, yielded little progress. MEK front personnel still refused to allow any residents to be interviewed by UNHCR staff without MEK minders being present. Then by the end of September Vincent Cochetel, a Washington representative for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said that an agreement had been reached through the MKO’s legal counsel in London for individual screening for refugee status with the UNHCR offering an alternative location near Ashraf for those who have been processed.

Maryam Rajavi immediately qualified this news from her HQ in France with the Farsi language diktat: “… we will not allow the line of the mercenaries Maliki and Barezani and the strategy of their masters, the Iranian regime, to prevail under the pretext of interviewing people one by one and …” and she continued “… all the Mojahedin members should only be taken for interviews using helicopters …” – which meant that in order to interview the people trapped in the camp she expected the US to fly over seven thousand helicopter sorties.

Such statements are plainly silly and we should not imagine that either Massoud or Maryam Rajavi expect anyone to take them seriously. They are meant first and foremost for internal consumption and as a time wasting exercise. Such a stance is reminiscent of the time when the MEK’s London lawyers announced in English that the group had given up armed struggle in order to be removed from the UK and EU terrorism lists. At the same time Rajavi told her followers in Farsi that as soon as the MEK was de-listed the Americans would re-arm them and they could continue with their violent activities.

The latest salvo from the MEK’s armoury of lies and deception was introduced in the form of an MEK claim that over seventy Iraqi MPs have called for the UNHCR to open an office inside Camp Ashraf and take over control of the camp from the Iraqi government. This comes at the same time that Alsumeria News has reported that a British parliamentary group headed by Baroness Nicholson is discussing with a visiting Iraqi parliamentary delegation headed by Mr. Alnajifi to find way to actually get access to the inside of the camp.

On the surface the MEK offer to allow the UNHCR into the camp might look like cooperation and progress. But in the light of the MEK’s past behaviour the agencies involved in the issue of Camp Ashraf would be wise to view this latest stance with deep suspicion. In the book ‘The Life of Camp Ashraf – Mojahedin-e Khalq Victims of Many Masters’ published by Iran-Interlink in September, we warn that “the MEK loyalists will continue to resist and try to provoke violence to prevent any interference in the internal affairs of the camp… The MEK has an armoury of defensive tactics with which to prevent such interference. The obvious one is to meet all attempts to enter the camp with violent, suicidal resistance. But the MEK system is also supremely manipulative as the American army discovered in 2003. Certainly both MEK cult experts and recently escaped residents will be needed to identify loyal cult leaders and activists. These experts will also be able to identify and challenge the MEK’s manipulative techniques which would otherwise be effective in deceiving less experienced agencies – no matter how well meaning.”

The Government of Iraq is very clear that it is dealing with the phenomenon of a dangerous, destructive mind control cult. Unfortunately, Western agencies do not appear to have got to grips with this fundamental aspect of the group and as such continue to fall under the spell of the MEK leaders and their unearthly and insatiable demands. It would be unfortunate in the extreme if the UNHCR did not understand during all its negotiations with the group’s front personnel that Massoud Rajavi does not represent anyone but himself and his own interests.

Cult experts warn that the MEK are not seriously offering to allow the UNHCR to open an office inside Camp Ashraf in order to conduct individual screening and processing with a view to removing the residents. The most the MEK could hope for is that the UN will, for any reason, raise its flag over the camp beside or in place of the Iraqi flag which is currently there.
Raising the UNHCR flag over the camp over which the Iraqis themselves have no jurisdiction would of course be extremely provocative, a challenge to the rule of law and cause conflict between external agencies and the Iraqi security forces. Exactly the kind of scenario which the MEK would love to create so the MEK leader continues with impunity to occupy the camp and hold hostages there.

The MEK effort is to create conflict and prevent change to the status quo. If anyone is in any doubt of this they must be made aware that at the same time this so-called offer is on the table, Rajavi’s special forces have manufactured a specialised missile launcher with which they fire stones at the families on the periphery of the camp .

Saudi envoy plot suspect is MKO man

Interpol has gained information about the second suspect in the alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States indicating that he is a key member of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO).

A source told the Mehr news agency on Monday that Interpol has learned that Gholam-Hossein Shakouri, aka Ali Shakouri and Gholam Shakouri, the second suspect in the alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Washington, is one of the senior members of the MKO, which is an anti-Iranian terrorist group.

Shakouri has travelled to numerous countries with many fake identity documents, including forged Iranian passports, and he was last seen in Washington and at Camp Ashraf, where MKO members are based, the source added.

One of the passports used by Shakouri was issued on November 30, 2006 in Washington with the number K10295631.

The MKO fled to Iraq in the 1980s, where it enjoyed the support of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and set up Camp Ashraf in the eastern province of Diyala, near the Iranian border.
Over 3,000 MKO members are currently residing at the camp. In addition, the group has sent elements to Iran on spying and terrorist missions.

The MKO is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community and has committed numerous terrorist acts against both Iranians and Iraqis.

Iran has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to expel the group, but the US has been putting pressure on the Iraqi government to block the expulsion.

Earlier in the day, a senior Pakistani intelligence official said that the prime suspect in the alleged plot, Mansour Arbabsiar, who is also a cousin of Shakouri, had received forged identity documents from the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

On October 11, the US Justice Department accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir, with help from a man suspected of being a member of a Mexican drug cartel.

Tehran says the media hype created by Washington is an attempt to deflect international attention from the anti-corruption and anti-corporatism protests currently rocking the country.
Iran’s envoy to the UN, Mohammad Khazaei, has filed a complaint against the US for what he called the “evil plot.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has described the US accusation as an immature scenario and says US officials will ultimately be forced to apologize.

Senior MP Condemns MKO’s Crimes against Iranians

A vice-speaker of the Iranian parliament reminded the crimes committed by the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) against the innocent Iranian civilians during the last three decades, and stressed that the terrorist group should be brought to justice as soon as possible.

Addressing a parliament session here on Sunday, First Vice-Speaker of the parliament Mohammad Reza Bahonar said that the MKO has carried out heinous and monstrous actions that are much more disgusting than the crimes committed by a number of the world criminals.

He reminded the big criminal acts carried out by the MKO mercenaries against the Iranian nation during the revolution, and pointed to the assassination of Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfahani in 1982 as among the same major acts of terrorism conducted by the MKO.

These days, people in Iran’s Isfahan province are commemorating the 29th martyrdom anniversary of Ashrafi Esfahani, one of the four Friday Prayers Leaders and representatives of Imam Khomeini who were martyred by the terrorist MKO in the early era after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The group, founded in the 1960s, blended elements of Islamism and Stalinism and participated in the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran in 1979. Ahead of the revolution, the MKO conducted attacks and assassinations against both Iranian and Western targets.

The group started assassination of the citizens and officials after the revolution in a bid to take control of the newly established Islamic Republic. It killed several of Iran’s new leaders in the early years after the revolution, including the then President, Mohammad Ali Rajayee, Prime Minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar and the Judiciary Chief, Mohammad Hossein Beheshti who were killed in bomb attacks by MKO members in 1981.

The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it was protected by Saddam Hussein and where it helped the Iraqi dictator suppress Shiite and Kurd uprisings in the country.

The terrorist group joined Saddam’s army during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) and helped Saddam and killed thousands of Iranian civilians and soldiers during the US-backed Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

Since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the group, which now adheres to a pro-free-market philosophy, has been strongly backed by neo-conservatives in the United States, who also argue for the MKO to be taken off the US terror list.

The MKO has been in Iraq’s Diyala province since the 1980s.

Dissolving camp Ashraf will save 3400 terror victims

Any action to dissolve Camp Ashraf will save 3,400 terror victims, Advocacy Group for Victims of Terrorism in the Middle East said on Sunday.

the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton
Advocacy Group: Dissolving camp Ashraf will save 3400 terror victims

In a letter to the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, the advocacy group said that ‘the international community has a duty to help members of terrorist organizations around the world including members of Mojahedin-e Khalq (MKO) to be liberated and find their human dignity.’

‘The appointment of Ambassador De Ruyt and continued violation of human rights in Camp Ashraf is the reason for sending the letter,’ it said.

The letter underlined that although since 2003 and subsequent MKO disarmament, MKO tries to show its peaceful face defying the fact that it has assassinated 12,000 Iranian citizens, 7 US citizens and thousands of Iraqi citizens over past three decades.

Referring to the continuation of military structure of Camp Ashraf and military discipline there, in addition to trainings given to MKO members for conducting terrorist operations similar to those carried out by MKO members in June 2003 self-immolation acts in various European countries, this NGO letter to Ashton emphasized that MKO leaders are still willing to provoke terrorist operations.

‘Brain washing, forced separation of female and males including forcing divorce upon married couples, forcing members to cut their relations with family and relatives and the whole society and in the meantime, imposing the organization rough rules to all members are just part of the inhumane actions done in Camp Ashraf against international rules and regulations,’ the letter expressed.

It also underlined that reports published by independent institutions such as Nuclear watchdog in 2005, RAND report in 2009, the report released by German Federal Government security apparatus in 2007 and recent US Secretary of State and the separated MKO members reports and interviews proves anti-humane and racial structure of the Camp Ashraf.

MKO today is misusing human rights and the related international organizations to prevent the dissolution of this terrorist organization by the complete transfer of Camp Ashraf somewhere out of Iraq, possibly a European country, the Advocacy Group of Victims of Terrorism in the Middle East stated in its open letter.

‘The complete move of the Camp Ashraf contradicts the civil liberties of Camp residents; If members of MKO have the right to decide about their future life, they will choose freedom and become separated from this terrorist organization.’

Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs recently appointed De Ruyt to advise the European Union’s response to Camp Ashraf.

Ambassador De Ruyt has served as Belgium’s Permanent Representative to the European Union.

In April, Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said Baghdad is determined to shut down Camp Ashraf, where members of the terrorist Mujahidin Khalq Organization (MKO) live and disband the group.

Members of the MKO fled to Iraq in 1986, where they enjoyed the support of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, and set up Camp Ashraf near the Iranian border in Diyala.

The group has carried out numerous acts of terror and violence against Iranian civilians and government officials.

The terror organization is also known to have cooperated with Saddam in suppressing the 1991 uprisings in southern Iraq and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds in the north.

Tehran has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to expel the group, but the US has been blocking the expulsion of MKO by pressuring the Iraqi government.

Controversial assassination plot in Washington throws spotlight on MKO

The alleged assassination plot against a Saudi ambassador in the USA, has led to serious The alleged assassination plot against a Saudi ambassador in the USA, has led to serious questions about those involvedquestions about those involved and who would actually gain from such an act. In the atmosphere of doubt and disbelief engendered by this scandal the spotlight has once again focused on the Usual Suspects, and these include the mercenary terrorist group Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK, MKO, PMOI).

Today the well informed Irandidban website claimed in its Persian section that the assassination plot against the life of the Saudi Ambassador to US more than likely the work of the intelligence section of the Washington-backed MEK terror group and the Israeli lobby.

Irandidban listed the press conferences, gatherings and speeches over the last few days (some of which had been planned well before the exposure of the failed plot) by various paid speakers closely affiliated with the Israeli lobby and Neoconservatives in Washington. Irandidban’s article explained this theory thus:

Considering the open hand given to the terror group in the corridors of power in Washington, London and Brussels, and considering that the group has always been proud of its mercenary work and its connections with the criminal underground and illegal drug cartels it is not without foundation to suspect MEK involvement.

Over many years, specific use has been made of the MEK against Iran, Iraq and other countries in the fields of subversion and information gathering. An example of this activity would be for MEK personnel to masquerade as officials of the targeted country to make telephone calls from Western countries to unsuspecting low level clerks and civil servants in order to gather information or insert misinformation into the chosen department. In some cases they have been known to pose as Revolutionary Guards.

Is it so far-fetched then to suppose that in this alleged plot the MEK could have posed as a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and other agents to trap or implicate various parties in an essentially fictitious plot?

Considering that the MEK has been backed by the Israeli lobby to demonise and otherwise act against Iran it is no surprise that the stated expectation of the MEK immediately after the announcement of the so-called failed terror attack that they should be now removed from the US terrorism list. Isn’t this the clearest indication yet that this whole debacle has been planned by the Israeli lobby and carried out by their favourite terror group to bring back instability in the region and divert attention from the ongoing Israeli crimes.
