Message of Parents of Asghar Baba Ali to their son in the MEK

Parents of Ali Asghar Baba Ali sent a video message to their son taken as a hostage in the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/ PMOI). Asghar’s mother Batul Bobetam and his father Ali Akbar Babai asked their beloved son to contact the after 34 years.

Ali Asghar Baba Ali was a young soldier serving the last days of his army service when he was taken as a war prisoner by Iraq forces during Iran-Iraq war, in 1988. He was deceived to join the MEK by the group recruiters a while before the POWs were exchanged between the two countries.

In their recent video message, Asghar’s parents tell him how much they love him and miss him. They ask him to call them and let them know about his conditions. “We are looking forward to see you,” his mother says. “Why don’t you call us? Mobiles are available everywhere.”

Ashghar’s family have so far written several letters to the International human rights bodies demanding for an opportunity to be able to contact him since the MEK leaders do not allow him to contact his family. They also publish video messages and open letters on Nejat Society website addressing Asghar in the hope that he will see them someday.

Erisa Rahimi’s letter to the Albanian Border and Migration Police

Erisa Rahimi, member of the Association for the Support of Iranians Living in Albania (ASILA) wrote a letter to the director of the Albanian Border and Migration Police to demand a clear response on the case of the detained members of ASILA.

6 members of ASILA association who are former members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) have been detained in Karreç Detention Center in the past two months. Erisa Rahimi the wife of Sarfaraz Rahimi and an Albanian member of ASILA, has penned the letter together with 4 other Albanian women who are the wives of the detained members.

Erisa Rahimi

Erisa Rahimi

Erisa addresses Sajmir Boshnjaku, the director of the Albanian Border and Migration Police asking him to answer why the husbands of these women are kept in Karreç Detention Center. “If they have committed a crime, why are they in migrants’ detention center and not in prison?” she asks the director. “If they are unlawful migrants, why aren’t the MEK members considered this way?”

Erisa Rahimi notifies that the detained citizens are 6 individuals of those 3000 MEK members who were relocated in Albania under the agreement between the Albanian government, the UNHCR, the United States and the MEK leaders. “These people left the MEK,” she states. “What especial crime are they accused of? In a word, you are violating human rights. Regardless of their nationality and their citizenship, they are humans.”
Pointing to the families that the detained ASILA members have formed in Albania, Erisa Rahimi and other signatories of the letter demand Sajmir Boshnjaku to clarify the reason for detention of Hassan Heirani, Ali Hajari, Gholam Shekari, Mehdi Soleimani, Hassan Shahbaz and Ehsan Bidi considering that they have not committed any crime in the Albanian territory.

Hassan Heyrani on hunger strike
Former members of the MEK

Hassan Heyrani’s video message from Karrec detention center

Hassan Heyrani sent a video message from Karrec detention center to voice his complaint to the Albanian citizens and authorities. Heyrani who is a former member of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) and a current member of the Association for the Support of Iranians Living in Albania (ASILA) is on hunger strike to protest his unlawful detention.

On January 7th, 2023, Hassan Heyrani is on his twentieth day of his hunger strike to draw attention of the Albanian authorities to his case and the case of five other ASILA members who have been detained by the Albanian border and immigration Police since November 11th.

Hassan Heyrani left the MEK seven years ago and began building a new life in the Albanian community. He is married to Margarita Balco, an Albanian girl. They are going to have a baby while Hassan’s fate in Albania is not clear.
In his video message from custody, Hassan calls on the Albanian government to give them a clear answer on the reason of their detention otherwise deliver them to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees that transferred them from Iraq to Albania seven years ago.

As a defector of the MEK, Hassan Heyrani wonders why the Albanian government first received him on the base of humanitarian reason as a member of the MEK but now that he has defected the group, he is no more welcome in their country. “I joined the MEK for freedom but after I found out that they were lying I separated myself from them,” he explains about his former membership in the cult of Maryam Rajavi.
“I continue hunger strike until receiving a clear answer from the government” he says. “How long should we be here and what future is waiting for us?”

Sadollah Seifi to protest detention of ASILA members

Sadollah Seifi, former member of the Mujahedin-e Khalq declared his protest against detention of members of the Association for the Support of Iranians Living in Albania (ASILA).

Sadollah Seifi who was taken as a hostage in the MEK for 24 years, since his teen years. He was in the group’s camps in both Iraq and Albania. He could manage to escape the group in Albania and eventually he succeeded to return to Iran, in 2018.

Saadollah Seifi

Saadollah Seifi

After his defection from the group, he resided in Albania for a while and he was under threats made by the MEK agents there. So, he is well awareS about the MEK tactics to irritate the defectors. “The MEK always try to push former members into troubles because it is against freedom and living independently,” he said in a visit to Nejat Society Alborz office. “I was several times beaten and threatened to death by the MEK agents, in public places of Tirana.”

Seifi believes that the illegal detention of ASILA members is part of the MEK’s plots against defectors including ASILA members. “Like other conspiracies built by the MEK, this is the outcome of large amounts of bribes it pays Albanian authorities,” he said. “In the past the MEK would report false accusations such as drug or human smuggling and robbery against defectors to prevent them from revealing facts on the true nature of the group.”

Sadollah Seifi who has witnessed MEK’s prisons and torture cells in its camps in Iraq and Albania, says, “I declare my protest against illegal detention of my friends and I pursue my complaint in international human rights bodies.”

MCNTV interviews Heyrani wife, Margarita Balco
Former members of the MEK

MCNTV interviews Heyrani wife

He has been on hunger strike for 18 days. “My fiancé, Hassan Heyrani, an Iranian citizen, has been on hunger strike for 18 days after being unjustly imprisoned in the Closed Center for Foreigners Karreç, in Durrës”.
This is the claim of Margarita Ballço, who complained on the show “Xhadat”.

On November 8, 2022, Hassan Heyrani, 43 years old, was imprisoned in the Closed Center for Foreigners Karreç, in Durrës. Summoned by the Directorate of Immigration Police in Laprakë, he appeared together with some of his friends, members of the “ASILA” society in Albania, to renew their residence permit, but from there they were sent to Karreç, where for several days they have been on hunger strike.

“Hasan came to Albania in 2016 and left the Manza camp in 2018, because he wanted a free life, he wanted to start a family. He was called to the Directorate of Immigration Police in Laprakë to renew his residence permit, and there he was told that he should go to the detention center in Karreç, for reasons of national security. Hassan has been in the detention center for 2 months and he doesn’t know why he is inside. He has his own association “Asila” and a bar. I addressed the Ministry of the Interior, the Prime Minister with letters, the President, the Directorate of the Immigration Police, and they gave me a vague answer, which is for national security. 5 of his friends were also imprisoned. I suspect that this was done by Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the mujahedin, because Hassan showed the dirty things that were done in the MEK, what really happened,” said Margarita.

We remind you that for several years Albania has become one of the places of refuge for members of the organization People’s Mujahedin of Iran, in other words (MEK), which until recently was considered a terrorist organization by most Western countries.

In the month of August, at the book fair organized in Durrës, there was also a clash between the mujahedin who live inside the Manza camp and those who left it, representatives of the “ASILA” association. One of them was Hassan Heyrani.

The name of Hassan Heyrani – on the website MEK Iran.com is among the names of the Intelligence Agents of the Iranian regime in Albania.
From November 8, 2022, he is in the closed center for foreigners in Karreç, Durrës.

He does not know why he is inside and it is the 17th day of the hunger strike, that he is waiting for a correct answer from our government. If he did something, why don’t they take him to court and punish him? In July last year, Hassan and his 10 friends’ apartments were searched by SPAK and they found nothing inside.

Before going on hunger strike, in a connection from the center of Karreç, Hasan talked about the difficult conditions in which he is.
“We are here without any explanation. No one answers us, it’s very cold, no heater. We sleep with coats and hoods. The officer told us that he did not like the interviews we gave to the BBC and some other media, where we talked about the mujahedin. Honestly, we are scared, because here it is like a prison. For more than 40 days, we could not go out to get fresh air. We are just in a room, where all the doors are closed. Every week, or once every two weeks, a group of policemen come and pick up a person, put him in a car and immediately take him to Greece. I told them, if we have any problem, if we have broken any law of Albania, please go to court, before the judges. “,he said.

Defectors of the MEK in Kermanshah ask for the release of ASILA members

Defectors of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization living in Kermanshah province asked for the release of the detained members of the Association for the Support of Iranians Living in Albania (ASILA).

These members of Nejat Society who could manage to escape the MEK in past years wrote a letter to the Albanian authorities asking for the immediate release of six members of ASILA who have been detained for near two months in a detention center in North of Tirana.
“Each of these detainees lost decades of their lives in the MEK and now that they started to build a normal life in the free world outside the MEK camp, they have been victimized by the conspiracies created by the MEK cult,” they wrote.

The signatories of the letter stated that the only fault of ASILA members is that they want their former friends –who are still taken as hostages in Camp Ashraf 3—learn about their experience. “Where in the world is this a crime?” they ask. “Why don’t the Albanian Police make a clear accusation against these people? Why are they and their families still kept in conditions of uncertainty?”

these citizens have been on hunger strike for 15 days

According to media sources, these citizens have been on hunger strike for 15 days, without food or drink. They demand their right to freedom, as was the reason for coming from Iran to Albania.

They have previously said in the media that they are grateful to the Albanian state and that they love our country and try to contribute here in Albania.

While Asila earlier addressed the institutions for an answer regarding this situation, Hassan Heyrani, Hassan Shahbaz, Mehdi Soleimani, Ali Hajari and Gholam Reza Shekari will spend New Year’s Day in detention. “Asila will continue the cultural activities, but also the pursuit for their right”. This is the word of the Asila team.
