Iran Interlink Weekly Digest – 291

++ The disturbances in Khuzestan began with a genuine grievance over water shortages. Very quickly the Saudi backed ‘separatist movement’ with its HQ in London, embarked on its own disruption and incitement to violence, bringing arms into the confrontations with local police. This resulted in several deaths and injuries among both police and civilians. In line with this, the MEK, as usual, came to help, claiming on its websites that the civilians were shot by the police – this is while video film shows that the armed Ahwazi group were shooting people.

#Iranian Fars News broadcasting videos clearly showing #American/ #SaudiArabia Backed #terrorists firing at people. #BidenHarris admin, while censoring likes of Fars News in the west claim Iranian Police is killing their own people in #Khozestan.

— Massoud khodabandeh (@ma_khodabandeh) July 20, 2021

Coordination between the MEK and Ahwazi group goes back a long time. Before this was a joint operation during a military parade to mark the anniversary of the Revolution, when the Ahwazi group opened fire on the audience. Iran International TV – a Saudi outlet based in London – invited both groups to a programme to talk about the violence and claim responsibility for it. This outraged Iran which objected to the British government allowing self-confessed terrorist groups to operate from inside their country. Now, in Khuzestan we are witnessing the same thing. Iran International TV, the MEK and the Ahwazi group joining together to claim that Khuzestan should separate from Iran and for armed resistance to be established to achieve this.

The last time it didn’t work and nor has it this time. However, this tactic is known to Iran observers. The Saudis and the US anti-Iran cabal push this agenda as an annoyance to score points against Iran rather than seriously believing that Khuzestan can be separated. As far as the MEK are concerned they have become a laughing stock due to their morph from an anti-Imperialist group to now openly saying whatever the Saudis tell them to say. Some critics in Farsi wrote to remind us that although the MEK are now crying wolf for the people of Khuzestan, at the time of Saddam they were fighting against them for Saddam. Ironically, this recent unrest has promoted a statement from Massoud Rajavi. Commentators mostly point out how irrelevant he is. But one writer compares Massoud Rajavi with Dracula; ‘although he’s dead, every time he smells blood, he wakes up. All it needs is the garlic of logic and peace and he’ll go back to his coffin and slam the lid shut’. Mehdi Khoshhal writes with the title: ‘Let’s say the leader IS alive’. The piece addresses the MEK members; ‘what are you doing? What is Rajavi doing? If he’s alive, why are you and your organisation in such a mess? And why isn’t he doing anything as a leader – surely he’d be better off dead? From the start Massoud Rajavi wasn’t doing anything. He was just in the right place and the right time to be used by anti-Iran forces and is still fulfilling this role.’ Ali Shirzad also writes in a similar way to the members, saying: ‘putting all these things aside, let’s talk about you inside this organisation. Let’s say you are where you are – mercenaries, dying, trapped, expelled etc – the main question is who is at fault for this destruction of your organisation. Do you blame Iran as your enemy, or the US as your supporters? Me, I blame your leaders.’
Why Western media silent on Ahvaz terrorist attackWhy Western media silent on Ahvaz terrorist attack

++ Inevitably, there were many responses to the MEK online conference. In the main, commentators said that the US and the west only do this – support MEK – to stop any kind of rapprochement. The intention is to trigger hatred with the hope that Iranians will start hating the MEK. They want to cause division because they can’t have a war. Even though every one of the participants is corrupt, as a general rule, the money that pays them comes from the Zionist circles who don’t want Iran to be friendly with the west.

++ In Albania, Gholamreza Shekari, a former MEK member who had vanished for a while, has re-emerged this week. He has now told his story in an interview with Mardom TV, and in a brief he published online as well. He explains how the MEK set him up when he was giving a lift to someone to a bus station. They planned to inform police that he was smuggling the person out of Albania so that he was detained and investigated. Shekari lines this betrayal and deception up alongside other similar things the MEK do, such as the case of Ehsan Bidi, or the kidnap and smuggling of Hadi Sani Khani from Albania to France, as well as other individual cases. He then talks about those who have disappeared, and their body has later been found. No one asks MEK about these. One was the champion swimmer who drowned in shallow water. He describes other people vanishing, committing suicide but, he says, nobody is allowed to investigate the MEK on these issues. Even in cases like that of Mohammad Reza Kolahi who was assassinated in Netherlands, Maryam and the MEK leaders are never questioned even though everyone knew that he had renounced the MEK and yet was a liability for them since he was responsible for the MEK bombing of the Islamic Republican Party in 1981. The piece concludes that the MEK are given open hand in Europe and the US. Even though Maryam Rajavi has been expelled from Europe, they still continue with their illegal activities in Albania and outside. Returning to his own situation, Shekari says, ‘they offered to get me freed if I would work for them. But I rejected them and was freed anyway since the police had nothing to charge me with. Let this be a warning to others to be careful. Don’t get near the MEK or they may trap you or trick you.’

In English:

++ Both western and Iranian media called out the hypocrisy of those Americans who participated in the MEK online conference. The only motivation anyone could reliably identify is that they were paid. By whom and why was open to interpretation depending on what conclusion the commentators wanted to draw. Iranian media interpreted the attendance as US support for terrorism. Western media was more analytical, though it came to the same conclusion – support for the MEK is designed to create division and hatred in lieu of actual war. Experts in the MEK, such as Anne Khodabandeh in the UK reminded us that the MEK rallies are not new, are paid for by Iran’s enemies and yet, after three decades have become more and more irrelevant. Best ignored since they serve no real purpose except self-publicity for Maryam Rajavi, who has proved herself year after year as incompetent as a leader.

++ A petition asking for leading members of the MEK to be put on trial in various International Courts has reached over 10,000 signatures. This began when 42 former MEK members brought a case against the MEK leaders in Iran. In March, Iran’s judiciary examined the evidence and found in their favour. They sent their judgement to the European countries where the MEK leaders are based, with a view to having them investigated. Since no such justice appears to be forthcoming for the victims, the petition was created by Nejat Society.

Sllovenia PM Janez Janša at MEK annual meeting
Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group

MEK denounced by the Iranian diaspora from different points of political spectrum

As expected, the so-called Iran Free Summit of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization was followed by a wave of critics from various Western individuals, from Socialist Democrats of the EU to American journalists and scholars who were mad at the presence of some of their political figures in the MEK gathering.
However, critics against the paid speakers of the MEK event came also from Iranians inside and outside Iran. Certain figures from opposition groups against the Iranian government also declared their disapproval against the MEK as a terrorist cult-like group. Erfan Fard is an example of these figures.

Sllovenia PM Janez Janša at MEK annual meeting

Sllovenia PM Janez Janša

Following the MEK online gathering, centered in Camp Ashraf 3 in Albania, Fard, the Iranian researcher and analyst who is an unforgiving critic of the Islamic Republic government tweeted:
“Dramatically, these Democrats Senator Menendez, Cory Booker and Republicans Roy Blunt and Senator Ted Cruz, as well Mike Pompeo have no knowledge about a notorious Islamic Terrorist Group of #MEK.”

Publishing photos of newspaper –in which the news of the assassination of the American military advisors and businessmen who were killed by the MEK in Iran during the 1970s, was available—he wrote:
“Hawkins, Shaffer & Turner were American colonels. Heavy check mark you spoke for terrorists, sir!”

Erfan Fard tweets on MEK annual meeting

Fard also criticized politicians from Department of Homeland Security for promoting the MEK terrorists:
“Strangely, some uneducated thugs in @DHSgov endorsed the articles of #MEK and these criminal individuals inside the soil of The USA! and they censored any any objections. shamelessly, now, some of them play trumpet for #terrorist loving mullahs who activated the dark cells in the US!”

Erfan Fard tweets on MEK annual meeting

He added:
“by a quirk of history, @DHSgov and @ICEgov postulated a sham pejorative article of this quisling Terrorist group in the court @TheJusticeDept against 1 Iranian researcher! Quizzically & sorrowfully nobody cares about the sophistry of MEK’s members in dark corners of net!”

Erfan Fard tweets on MEK annual meeting

About the MEK’s terrorist designation he tweeted:
“The @StateDeptCT or @USTreasury cannot change the History! On Sept. 28, 2012, the @StateDept formally removed the Mujahedin-e Khalq (#MEK) from the Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) list.
Date Originally Designated: 10/8/1997

Costly Terrorists to the Europe

Almost a week has elapsed since Janez Jansha, the Slovenian Prime Minister chairing the EU rotating presidency, addressed an online gathering organized by the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) terrorist group.

In his speech on July 10, Jansha broke all diplomatic rules and attended a terrorist group conference disregarding his official position. In addition to making statements against the Iranian government and intervening in its internal affairs, he supported the MEK which used to be on multiple terror group lists for a long time.

Hours later, the Slovenian ambassador was summoned to the foreign ministry of Iran. Next, in a talk with Joseph Borell, Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced his objection to Slovenia’s act. Borell told Zarif that Slovenia’s action did not reflect the EU’s official position.

The MEK took advantage of all these reactions and called Jansha a brave Prime Minister. However, in Slovenia, Prime Minister faced harsh criticism in the media where he was warned of the consequences of his action, especially regarding Iran-Slovenia relations.

Delo berates Janša over Iran comments

Delo berates Janša over Iran comments

According to the Slovenian newspaper Delo, the Prime Minister’s participation in the MEK gathering was without the knowledge of the president and the foreign minister calling it an arbitrary decision. This newspaper also expressed its concerns regarding how this act might jeopardize the economic transactions and relations of the two countries. It also added, “severity of Europe’s reactions to this incident shows how dangerous this matter could be. Slovenia has turned into a disruptive factor in EU’s policies.”

It seems highly likely that the Slovenian PM received a large sum of money for his several-minute speech. According to international reports published by American investigative journalists, the MEK pays its foreign guests, depending on their ranks, an average of thirty thousand dollars for a short speech. Of course, this amount is much more for A-listers. If we take into account the PM’s financial corruption and his two-year sentenced to prison in 2013, it should not be surprising that Jansha received an exorbitant amount to speak at the gathering.

This tactless act i.e., supporting a terrorist cult, damaged Slovenia’s reputation severely both at the international level and in the eyes of Iranian citizens because more than sixty percent of Iranian terror victims have been murdered by the MEK terrorist cult. Unless this mistake is fixed, it appears that future interactions between the two countries will be challenging.

The MEK held the conference before the eyes of the European officials in Albania showing how a terrorist cult could incur heavy costs to relations of the countries. Slovenia is an example of a country that got involved in the game of a terrorist group and acted irrationally and unconventionally just like their Albanian counterparts who entered this game long before by lining up their former officials to deliver speeches and support this terrorist group.

The new president will take office in Iran in the beginning of August and it is important that there be good relations between Iran and the European Union away from and not affected by disruptive factors. The MEK proved that its actions aim to break off such bilateral relations. They are costly terrorists for Europe.

Court hearing of MEK defectors
Missions of Nejat Society

Signatures of the petition urging for the trial of the leaders of the MEK exceeded 10,000

A petition titled “Trial of MEK leaders” has been organized on the Nejat Society website. The number of signatories of this petition that “welcomes the trial of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK, MKO, Rajavi Cult) leaders, especially Massoud and Maryam Rajavi in international courts”, exceeded 10200 thousands by this morning.

It should be noted that a court was held in the Iranian judicial system in Branch 55 of the Tehran international Court of Law to hear the complaints of 42 former members of the MEK, who were subjected to solitary confinement, torture, and physical and mental sufferings in Camp Ashraf in Iraq. The court was held in March 2021 with the presence of representatives of domestic and foreign media and human rights and international organizations.

In this court, former members of the MEK spoke about the crimes committed by the Rajavi Cult against them and their families for more than 30 years, and some of them had the effects of physical injuries inflicted on them as a result of torture shown to the court judge and those present.

In this petition, more than 330 views in support of the international trial of Rajavi cult leaders have been recorded. A few number of the comments are as follows:

Asad Pak, a former member of the Rajavi Cult, wrote: “I am Asad Pak, a prisoner of war in the Iraqi camps for 9 years. In 1990 I joined them through poisonous propaganda of the MEK. I was in their organization for ten years with the most difficult conditions. In 1999, in an inhumane manner, I was taken to prison in Camp Ashraf on the pretext that I was an infiltrator and an agent of Iran, and I was tortured and harassed. After a few months, I was transferred to Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, where I was held for two years under harsh conditions. I left there and returned to Iran in 2001. I hope the leaders of the Rajavi Cult will be tried as soon as possible and our rights will be taken from them.”

Alireza Saliqedar, brother of Khosrow Saliqedar, imprisoned in the Rajavi Cult’s camp in Albania, wrote: “My brother Khosrow is a member of the Rajavi Cult and is unaware of my mother, who is paralyzed. A mother who travels to Iraq many times to embrace her son, but to no avail. In the meantime, Rajavi should be held accountable before the justice. We the families do support this. That day is not too far away.”

Mohammadreza Mobin

Mohammadreza Mobin

Mohammad Reza Mobin, a former member of the Rajavi Cult, wrote: “Undoubtedly this is one of the most glorious cases of the fight against terrorism and cultism in Europe, and the highest point of hope and encouragement for the former members who, like us, have been telling the world for years. that the organization has cultic relations, and within its relations there is widespread repression and torture of its members, and the cult leaders must be tried in an international anti-cult court. But we had nowhere to go, and always at the height of repression, we only reached out to God, and we asked him for help.

the mother of Fereydoun Nedayi

the mother of Fereydoun Nedayi

Written by Ms. Roghayeh Farazian, says it all: “I am the mother of Fereydoun Nedayi. My son was captured in the war and he has been imprisoned in the Rajavi camp for many years and I do not know about him. Fereydoun’s father died suffering from my son’s separation. I waited every day for Fereydoun to come back. I went to Iraq many times, but they prevented me from meeting my dear son. I wrote letters many times and asked for conditions to be provided so that Fereydoun’s father could hear Fereydoun’s voice when he was sick, but Massoud and Maryam Rajavi did not pay any attention. I have asked for the release of Fereydoun and all the prisoners. I wish my voice would reach Fereydoun and he would know that we are waiting to hear his voice and the news of his separation and we are waiting for him with open arms. I will not give up trying to save my dear son, and I will not stop trying as long as I live in my body. I, a mother, can never forget a part of my body, and my only wish is happiness and saving for Fereydoun, and I breathe in the hope of his return.”

Soraya Abdollahi

Soraya Abdollahi

Soraya Abdollahi, head of the Nejat Society’s Mothers’ Organization, wrote in a message: “Mothers, the forgotten victims of the Rajavi Cult, along with the suffering families and former members of MEK, support with all their capacity the complaints of the former members in the International Court of Justice in The Hague. There is no doubt that victory in this path will continue until the release of all prisoners held in the Rajavi Cult’s camp in Albania. It is not far when our loved ones step into the free world.

Leila Kiukan

Leila Kiukan

Leila Kiukan, the youngest child of Rahim Kiukan, a captive in the Rajavi Cult in Albania, wrote: “Greetings to all the loved ones who, like me and my family, have been suffering by this criminal cult, and I wish health and release for all prisoners in the Rajavi Cult, including my own father, Mr. Rahim Kiukan, and I hope this separation ends soon. Rajavi knows that we will fight to the end for our loved ones, father, mother, brother, and sisters, and we will bring him to his knees soon.”
Bahman Hashemi, brother of Farzin Hashemi, a prisoner in the Rajavi Cult, wrote: “My brother Farzin has been a prisoner in the MEK terrorist organization for several years. My brother had a wife and two children abroad. The MEK terrorist organization, an enemy of the Iranian people, deceived my brother. It ruined his life. My mother died longing to see my brother. I will take revenge on my mother for Rajavi and his gang.”

Leila Norbakhsh
Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group

My daughter was burned alive before my eyes

In 1982, Zahra Nourbakhsh was five years old. She was traveling on a bus with her mother and her sister, Leila, who was two years younger. They were going to a saint’s tomb near Shiraz. At a turn in the road, two young women stopped the bus, sprayed the seats with gasoline and set them ablaze. Most of the passengers were able to escape through the rear exit and windows. But the flames trapped others, like Zahra and Leila, inside.

Zahra Nurbakhsh

Zahra Nurbakhsh

Zahra was saved at the last moment by the speedy arrival of an emergency rescue crew. Her body, however, is permanently scarred: burns on her head, shoulders, hands and chest. She is 45% handicapped for life. Her younger sister was not so lucky. Her body was unrecognizable, except for an earring.

Leila Norbakhsh

Leila Norbakhsh

Zahra, who still cannot understand the vindictive violence of the four young women, recalls: “we were ordinary peasants. We supported the revolution, but we were not at all politically active”. arrested soon thereafter, the four assailants confessed their membership in the Mojahedin movement. Tried, three were sentenced to death and executed. The fourth is serving a life sentence.
Zahra feels no lingering anger at the four young women who paid for their crime. She says:”when a young man came to ask my parents for my hand in marriage, they had to tell him about my condition. But he accepted me as I am.”.

But she adds: “I am, nonetheless a little unhappy. I would have liked to have brought my husband a body less marked by suffering”. Speaking from her own perspective, her mother, Malhabas Nourbakhsh, recalls:” My daughter Leila was very beautiful. Just before the tragedy, she was asking me:’ Tell me, Mom, are we going to a wedding? she was burned alive before my eyes”.

MEK’s Free Iran Summit without Iranian Speakers!

The so-called Free Iran Summit held annually by the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ NCRI/ Cult of Rajavi) was supposed “to push for more assertive global policies toward the Iranian regime, including policies that support a large and growing civilian protest movement”, according to the MEK-run media. They also claimed that “Free Iran World Summit will link together Iranian expatriate communities throughout the world”. However, as a country with a large population of diaspora all over the world, there was no Iranian speaker as the representatives of the Iranian expatriate communities, in the Summit.

All prominent speakers of the event were non-Iranians except the group’s so-called president elect, Maryam Rajavi. The on-line audience was claimed to be connected from 50000 locations from all over the world to Camp Ashraf 3 in Albania which sounds quite implausible. Given that the MEK was really successful in linking such a crowd for the annual gathering, there should be at least a few prominent figures of Iranian political luminaries to address the Summit on behalf of the MEK.

Maryam Rajavi

Moreover, the “free Iran summit” had no “free” local audience. The crowd who was sitting in front of monitors of the alleged online audience and speakers, are actually prisoners of the Mujahedin Khalq. As members of the Cult of Rajavi, the individuals who are settled at Ashraf 3, are banned from leaving the group. This is the second contradictory point about the gathering organized by MEK.

Such controversies are normally faced with critics in a normal world, as the Socialist and Democrats of the European Union declared that they were “shocked” to learn that the prime minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša, whose country is now chairing the EU rotating presidency, addressed the MEK gathering. “This anti-democratic, cult-like organisation, which was on the EU terrorist list until 2009, has a long history of human rights abuses documented by organisations such as Human Rights Watch,” they argued in the official statement that they immediately published after the event. They denounced the act of the Slovenian prime minister to support “a group with such a violent, anti-democratic record” as “destructive behavior”.

To criticize the American speakers of the MEK’s so-called summit, Michael Rubin of the Washington Examiner described the MEK’s true nature for the readers. “In reality, its leaders Masoud and Maryam Rajavi rule with an iron fist,” Rubin writes about the organizers of the summit which is supposed to free Iranians. “It runs as a cult with its rank-and-file cut off from their families and the broader society. Its literature reads like a Lyndon LaRouche diatribe. Footnotes may look legitimate but pull readers down a rabbit hole of nonexistent sourcing, irrelevancies that do not substantiate their points, and dead links.”

Rubin adds that the MEK’s claim to have high support inside Iran is “fiction”. “Many resent the MKO’s terrorism that as often killed innocent Iranians as the regime officials they targeted,” he asserts. “More despise the group for siding with Iraq during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War. In effect, ordinary Iranians see the MKO as people in the United States see John Walker Lindh, the American Taliban.” Rubin believes that the appearance of American bipartisan figures to support a group so despised by Iranians, “serves as a barometer of corruption in Washington”.

Daniel Larison also wrote on Anti War that “the annual parade of prominent officeholders and policymakers that offer up effusive praise to such a wretched group is an ongoing disgrace for the United States and its allies, and it is a symptom of deeper problems with our foreign policy”.

Yes, Larion is absolutely right. “The MEK is a dangerous and disreputable group”. He accurately warns that the MEK “ought to be so politically radioactive that no one would want to be associated with them”. This is what the Iranian from all political understandings have realized. You find no Iranian political figure among speakers of the MEK gatherings, even among paid speakers. The Iranians inside and outside Iran see the MEK as definitely harmful to their fame and dignity.

EU foreign policy chief: Janša doesn’t represent the EU on Iran

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Monday (12 July) sought to distance the bloc from comments made by Slovenia’s Prime minister at a meeting of an Iranian opposition group that enraged Tehran.

Iran’s foreign ministry has slammed Slovenian premier Janez Janša for participating in “Free Iran” conference of the exiled People’s Mujahedin (MEK) and summoned the country’s ambassador.

Janez Janša, Prime Minister of Slovenia #Iran’s people deserve democracy freedom & human rights & should be firmly supported by the int’l community. The regime must be held accountable for human rights violations. #FreeIran2021https://t.co/as6lOrWZmR
— People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) (@Mojahedineng) July 10, 2021

Janša told the meeting in an online message that the “Iranian people deserve democracy, freedom and human rights, and should be firmly supported by the international community”.

He also demanded that the “Iranian regime must be held accountable for human rights violations”.

Borrell said the statements from the Slovenian leader did “most definitely not” reflect the EU’s position, despite the country currently holding the bloc’s rotating six-month presidency.

Fars news report on MEK meeting

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell

“The EU’s position when it comes to Iran is balanced,” Borrell said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

“We believe in bringing to bear political pressure, when necessary, in lots of areas and at the same time trying to find cooperation when necessary.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had on Sunday called on the EU “to clarify its stance” in a phone call with Borrell, Tehran said.

EU ties with the Iran are currently at a highly sensitive moment as the bloc is seeking to broker the return of the United States to the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran at long-running talks in Vienna.

We call for clarification on PM Janez Janša’s participation in a meeting sponsored by the People’s Mujahideen Organisation of Iran!
