US National Security Adviser on the payroll of Mojahedin Khalq terrorists

An Iranian lawmaker quoted Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying that US National Security Adviser John R. Bolton is affiliated with the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) and is on the notorious group’s payroll.

John Bolton

In an interview with Tasnim, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini outlined the main topics discussed during Zarif’s Wednesday meeting with members of a parliamentary group at the Parliament.

The US enmity towards the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian administration will never end, the MP quoted Zarif as saying, noting that the top Iranian diplomat has said US Republicans and Democrats only use “different methods” to harm Iran.

The US notion that they can damage the Islamic Republic has been incited by Munafiqeen (MKO members), as John Bolton receives salary from the MKO terrorists and attends their gatherings, the lawmaker quoted Zarif as stating.

As regards the efforts to save the 2015 Iran nuclear deal after the US withdrawal from the multilateral accord, Zarif gave an assurance that Iran will pursue a legal path that would fulfill the country’s interests and strengthen the push for saving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Naqavi Hosseini went on to say.

Bolton, who made his name as a belligerent member of George W. Bush’s State Department and a Fox News contributor, has advocated bombing Iran instead of commitment to JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Bolton has repeatedly called for the US help for overthrowing the government in Iran and handing power to MKO terrorists.

At a Paris gathering in 2017, Bolton told members of the MKO terrorist group that US President Donald Trump’s administration should embrace the goal of immediate regime change in Iran and recognize their group as a “viable” alternative.

The MKO – listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community – fled Iran in 1986 for Iraq and was given a camp by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

They fought on the side of Saddam during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-88). They were also involved in the bloody repression of Shiite Muslims in southern Iraq in 1991 and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds.

The notorious group is also responsible for killing thousands of Iranian civilians and officials after the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979.

More than 17,000 Iranians, many of them civilians, have been killed at the hands of the MKO in different acts of terrorism including bombings in public places, and targeted killings.

Maryam Rajavi

Maryam Rajavi, Mojahedin Khalq misusing Iranian people’s just demands in Villepinte Paris

This week, Maryam Rajavi is due to stage her yearly event in Villepinte, Paris, to glorify terror and war – an event which in recent years has become an advertisement platform for American/Israeli/Saudi rants against Iranians.

Ebrahim Khodabandeh

At this same time in Iran, Bazaar and shop traders have protested over the instability of foreign currencies and other economic grievances. In a few instances these protests resulted in some localised disturbances. It is clear that all the slogans, even the ones from the groups of provocateurs, were based purely on economic demands asking the government to intervene to sort out the problems.

The Rajavi cult, which is famous for opportunism and riding on each and every event that happens across the globe, is now trying to ride on the wave of the just demands of Iran’s traders – and clearly by the order of the Zionist benefactors attempt to change the nature of their demands into a political stunt.

According to information passed to me by credible sources, a meeting was held in Auvers sur Oise (MEK terrorist planning camp on the outskirts of Paris) to coordinate the Villlepinte event on Saturday under the command of Mahnaz Salimi. Her task is to do the utmost possible to take advantage of these demonstrations by pretending they were organised by and in support of the MEK!

In this meeting Mahnaz Salimi was assigned to create fake news and add this issue to the speech prepared for Maryam Rajavi at their meeting so as to falsely take advantage of these circumstances in Iran.

Other MEK commanders have been assigned to create placards, posters and banners for this plan and Salimi has emphasized that ‘this is an opportunity which we cannot afford to lose as it is imperative to show that we are alive inside Iran’.

Clearly Maryam Rajavi’s cult has no relation whatsoever with the protests inside Iran and is only, as usual, trying to jump on the bandwagon and take advantage of, and derail if possible, the just demands of Iranian citizens. It is also clear that the demands of the demonstrators have never been, nor ever will be, to bring about support for the likes of Maryam Rajavi. The name of Maryam Rajavi or Mojahedin Khalq (MEK) was never heard in any part of any demonstrations as Iranians in general see Maryam Rajavi and the Mojahedin Khalq as an organisation which is proud of being part and parcel of the enemies of Iran and Iranians. Iranians see her as a cheap and sad mercenary who is trying to promote herself for her masters whatever the price.

Albania: MEK rebrands by assassinating unwanted members

Massoud Keshmiri

The mysterious disappearance of a member of the Mojahedin Khalq (MEK) terrorist group in Albania has once again drawn attention to this controversial group. Malek Sharaee, 47, originally from Khuzestan Province in Iran, was reportedly drowned in the Rrotull village irrigation water reservoir. After three days, divers have not found his body even though the water channel is only 3.5 meters deep. However, a MEK representative and three MEK witnesses say his clothes were found at the water’s edge. Police are now investigating this as a possible criminal offense. Even so, unless they gain access to Camp Ashraf Three, the MEK’s purpose-built training camp in Manez, they are unlikely to unearth the truth – MEK impunity is far greater than this small country can deal with or penetrate.

MEK (aka Saddam’s Private Army) was unknown in Albania until they arrived after 2013. Their bizarre behavior and controversial activities soon became the focus of media attention.

But the MEK’s dark history began long before this. Along with well-publicised military-style terrorist attacks on Iran since the 1980s, the MEK was also trained by Saddam Hussein’s Mukhaberat (Secret Services) and later by Israel’s MOSSAD, in intelligence gathering and secret operations. As a result, MEK has also conducted many covert terror acts and assassinations over the years. Several of these were deliberately staged to make it look like Iran was involved. Such as the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. In spite of extensive investigation, the primary evidence linking Iran came from four high ranking intelligence officers from MEK.  In 2011, a man connected to Mexican drug dealers was arrested for the attempted murder of the Saudi Ambassador to America. The US quickly accused Iran, but after two weeks the perpetrator was linked to MEK. In 2013, Israel arrested a Swedish Iranian man, Ali Mansouri, who ‘confessed’ to be spying for Iran in Tel Aviv. He turned out to be a MEK member.

The underlying pattern behind these events is of deception and callous, cynical murder. These examples are not unique. MEK has a long history of highly sophisticated and brutal undercover activity. However, the reported death of Malek Sharaee in Albania this week also points to a new phase in MEK covert activity. This time individual MEK members who were previously involved in known acts of violence are now themselves becoming victims of their own organization.

Internal assassinations are not new – Commander Ali Zarkesh was deliberately killed during a military operation in 1988 because he had become critical of the leadership. There have been hundreds of reports of suspicious deaths and actual murders over the last three decades committed against critics and rivals.

In 2013, former MEK member Massoud Dalili was identified as the 53rd victim of a massacre at Camp Ashraf in Iraq. MEK only acknowledged his death when the Iraqi authorities formally identified him via his DNA. Dalili’s body had been deliberately disfigured (his face and hands burned) to hide his identity. Massoud Dalili had been one of the personal security personnel for leader Massoud Rajavi. He had undergone training with Saddam’s Republican Guards and the MEK’s own specialist training. Before coming to Iraq, Dalili had headed a small MEK team in Gilan Province where he was responsible for scores of deaths, including civilians

Dalili

Another victim killed during the same attack was Zohreh Ghaemi, She had commanded the assassination of General Sayad Shirazi in 1999. Of the other victims that day, at least ten are known to have participated in known acts of violence for MEK. No one claimed responsibility for the attack on Camp Ashraf.

Zohre Ghaemi

In 2015, in the Netherlands, Mohamad Reza Kolahi was killed by a criminal gang on the order of MEK. Investigators confirmed that Kolahi was responsible for the 1981 bombing of the headquarters of the Islamic Republic Party in Tehran in which 72 high-ranking politicians and party members were killed.

Mohammad Reza Kolahi

Another MEK member, Massoud Keshmiri, responsible for the bombing which killed PM Bahonar and President Rajai in 1981, was last seen with MEK in Germany some years ago. He has since vanished and could be dead. Although these deaths cannot be said to be directly linked, there is a common thread whose purpose becomes clear when we remember 2016 when Prince Turki al-Faisal, former Saudi Intelligence chief, announced the death of MEK leader Massoud Rajavi. It is clear from this that MEK is being purged from top to bottom of all the individuals who have had involvement or are associated with its violent past – rebranding by assassination to make the group legally acceptable.

MEK has become the pattern for how other defeated terrorist groupings can be reinvigorated, rebranded and reused. The controversy following the Bulgarian PM’s announcement that “Albania will become a coordination center for fighters returning from ISIS to the Balkans” may die down soon – Prime Minister Rama later dismissed this as fantasy, but he is not convincing.

Instead, the history of the MEK in Albania indicates that the same scenario will be repeated. As ISIS fighters arrive and settle, the process will start just as it did with MEK. Expect more mysterious murders, suicides, disappearances, bizarre interventions to prevent investigations. And, of course, the involvement of Albanian citizens, politicians, and personalities for and against. Plus, not only abandoning any hope of joining the EU, but suffering more restrictions on the borders with the EU and Balkan countries.

Massoud Rajavi’s Move to Iraq in 1986

Massoud Rajavi’s Move to Iraq in 1986

In june10th, 1986, the Associated Press reported, “After five years of French exile, Massoud Rajavi has taken his Iranian opposition movement to Iraq where he is expected to step up guerrilla action against the regime of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.” [1]

Massoud Rajavi’s Move to Iraq in 1986

The report came after the French government issued an order for the expulsion of Massoud Rajavi, the leader of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ the Cult of Rajavi) from France on June 7, 1986. However, the Christian Science Monitor’s correspondent suggested, “French officials say Rajavi left voluntarily and was not expelled, but in recent weeks the French government had exerted quiet pressure and placed restraints on his activities.” [2]

“But information from Paris indicates that Rajavi strove hard until the last minute to be allowed to remain in France,” CSM added. “Though the French authorities never served an expulsion order on Rajavi, they made it clear to him that he was no more welcome.” [3]

Furthermore, the AP report truly predicted that relocation of the MKO near the Iranian border would shift the propaganda approach of the group which was based on the establishment of the National Council of Resistance to military force which had been the group’s original agenda from the early days of its foundation. “The leader of the Mujahedeen guerrillas focused on political opposition while in France, collected Western support and built a propaganda machine,” the AP asserted. “But now Rajavi risks the scorn of Iranians by operating out of Iraq, a country that is at war with his homeland”. [4]

However, Rajavi’s move to Iraq was then called by the group`s propaganda as “A Flight for Peace and Freedom”! As usual, the group had to justify its disgusting anti-national act using agreeable words like “Peace”, “Liberty” and “Freedom”. But, playing with words did not help Iranians` hatred towards the MKO after the group collaborated with Saddam Hussein, the arch enemy of Iran.

AP reported at the time, “Some experts believe that the move may have some short-term advantages, but that it will ultimately cost the Mujahedeen credibility with Iranians.” The experts cited by AP were absolutely right. [5]

An Iranian jurist who had once been Rajavi’s lawyer and lived in France at the time, told CSM, “When Rajavi came to France, he and his supporters quickly ran out of money. The Iraqi government offered him support and they accepted. In the long run, they became proxies of the Iraqi regime and lost much of their credibility within Iran.” [6]

It was only a few years later that the US State Department confirmed the MKO’s increasing unpopularity among the Iranian nation due to its collaboration with Saddam Hussein in the eight years of Iran-Iraq war.

Just like today, the MKO’s unpopularity was not restricted to the Iranian people. “The Mujahedeen are criticized by other opposition groups as responsible for thousands of deaths in the early days of the revolution,” suggested the AP. “And critics say the Mujahedeen are caught up in a cult-like reverence for Rajavi.” [7]

The AP wrote about the MKO’s armed struggle and terror acts against Iranians. “The Mujahedeen have maintained a separate military command in Iran, which claimed responsibility for occasional guerrilla attacks.” [8]

Rajavi’s move to Iraq was a new phase for the MKO’s violent approach. “Peace” and “freedom” was unheard of.

As the enemy of his enemy, the MKO was warmly welcome by Saddam Hussein and his right hand man, Tariq Aziz, the Iraqi deputy premier and foreign minister. AP quoted him as saying “the Mujahedeen plan to step up military action inside Iran.” And the MKO did it. It was shortly after Rajavi’s move to Baghdad that the so-called National Liberation Army was formed as Saddam’s private army. [9]

No trust on the MEK
Mujahedin Khalq; A proxy force

No trust on the MEK

Revelations on US security advisors controversial incomes were a proof of how the US policy is manipulated by bribed politicians who are paid large amount of money for a five minute speech at the events organized by front groups of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization(the MKO/ the MEK/ the PMOI/ the Cult of Rajavi)

No trust on the MEK

A few days ago, Washington Editor of Al Monitor, Julian Pecquet, tweeted “Revealed: @AmbJohnBolton ‘s speaking fees for last year’s#MEK / NCRI #Iran regime-change dinner in Paris: $40,000. The revealing tweet was confirmed by a tweet by NBC’s prominent journalist Richard Engel who had just published a documentary on the MKO background and its financial affairs with American high profiles.  Here tweeted “Finally we have a concrete figure for how much John Bolton was paid to speak at an MEK event last year – $40k acc to his financial disclosure. Thatwas just one of many appearances he’s made over the years, in support of theformer terrorist group that wants to take over #Iran.” [1]

The above mentioned figure was probably for only one year of lobbying for the MKO. Behnam Gharagozli, Jon Roozenbeek and Adrià SalvadorPalau of the New Arab exposed in a recent article that the speaking fees the MKO pays Bolton Mounts to bigger figures. They state, “Recently we have learned that Bolton’s dream might have come with a price tag: MEK expert Joanne Stocker asserts that the MEK likely paid Bolton at least $180k in “speaker fees”,making him more a lobbyist than a statesman.” [2]

The authors of this article suggest that the love affairs between the MKO and its sponsors bears no fruit because as Academics and policymakers state the MEK does not enjoy widespread support inside Iran. “Indeed, most Iranians who do not support the current clerical regime also vehemently oppose the MEK,” they write. [3]

Former CIA agent, Philip Giraldi also states about Bolton’s paid sponsorship for the group, “MEK is particularly hated by most Iranians and the repeated assertion that it is some kind of “Iranian democracy” alternative is ridiculous as the people in Iran would never accept it.” [4]

The New Arab correspondents consider the regime change agenda from another point of view. They regard it as a threat for the US national interests. “Not only would regime change in Iran potentially cost the United States trillions of dollars, tasking a group such as the MEK to carry out such a goal is downright foolish,” they assert. [5]

They even criticize the hypocrisy of the US government enquiring, “With such close ties to a cultish organization that the Department of State officially labelled as a terrorist organization for approximately 15 years, how could Bolton have possibly received a security clearance to work at such a high level in the White House?” [6]

They confirm that the MKO is neither reliable nor rational. “Even those who support regime change in Iran should be skeptical of Bolton’s ties with this group,” they write. ”Given the MEK’s constantly shifting ideology, its cultish behaviour, history of violence and support for actors like Saddam Hussein, it’s highly doubtful that such a result would serve American interests even if Bolton’s plans for regime change in Iran via the MEK were successful.” [7]

Noticing the role of the Saudis together with the US and Israel in supporting the MKO Giraldi warns about the dangers the MKO poses for the US national interests too. “Lost in all of the above is any conceivable American interest,” he warns. “It is difficult to even make the claim that Iran threatens the United States or any vital interest and the drive to decapitate the Mullahs, both literally and figuratively, really comes from Riyadh and TelAviv. And there is potential collateral damage where it really might matter as MEK cultists continues to sit and fester in a holding pattern maintained by Washington in the heart of Europe.” [8]

“Even if the Iranian public were to simply forget that this organisation supported its arch nemesis in an eight year war that killed hundreds of thousands of Iranians and caused hundreds of billions of dollars of damage to both sides, the United States and Israel would have no guarantee that the MEK would not revert back to its original anti-American and anti-Israeli ideology upon assuming power in Iran”, according to the New Arab. [9]

As the MKO has been frequently paralleled with the ISIS invarious analysis by scholars, journalists and experts, the writers of the NewArab assert, “The Middle East is a constant reminder that just because a group welcomes American support to achieve its objectives one day, does not mean that they will remain pro-American the next.” [10]

NATO’s Terrorist Bases in Europe

NATO and the United States, which, together, claim to be fighting some sort of amorphous “global war on terrorism,” have enabled a terrorist group to establish bases in two NATO member states.

NATO

NATO and the United States, which, together, claim to be fighting some sort of amorphous “global war on terrorism,” have enabled a terrorist group to establish bases in two NATO member states – France and Albania – and one NATO protectorate, Kosovo. After evacuating forces of the anti-Iranian terrorist group Mojahedin-e-Khalq from their former bases in Iraq, the United States and NATO facilitated the group’s establishment of a well-guarded military base in Manez, Albania, near Tirana. In addition to hosting MEK members, NATO has convinced Albania to accept members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), who surrendered to Western special forces in Syria and Iraq.

The MEK was founded in 1965 and it has the unusual distinction of taking action to overthrow both the former government of the Shah of Iran and the Islamic Republic of Iran by relying on terrorist actions. In the early 1970s, the MEK embarked on a program of assassinating Iranian officials and U.S. personnel in Iran. The Iranian Revolution of 1979 saw the MEK’s program of bombings and shootings increase in intensity. The MEK is led by the husband-wife team of Massoud and Maryam Rajavi, who opponents and ex-members of the MEK describe as leaders of what has become known as the “Rajavi Cult.” The Rajavis abhor criticism and have been known to silence former MEK members-turned-critics by having them constantly harassed or worse, assassinated.

The MEK’s most notable terrorist actions included:

the attempted kidnapping in 1970 of the U.S. ambassador to Iran, Douglas MacArthur II, the nephew of the famed World War II general.

the attempted assassination in 1972 of U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Harold Price with an improvised explosive device (IED).

the assassination in 1973 of U.S. Army officer Louis Lee Hawkins in Tehran. That same year, the MEK assassinated U.S. Air Force officers Col. Paul Shaffer and Lt. Col. Jack Turner.

the 1973 bombings of Pan-American World Airlines and Shell Oil offices in Tehran.

the assassination in Tehran in 1976 of three American employees of Rockwell International — William Cottrell, Donald Smith, and Robert Krongard. U.S. President Gerald Ford said he hoped that “the murderers will be brought to justice.” Instead, they are treated as heroes and the future government of Iran by bi-partisan leaders in Washington.

MEK threats to kill Presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter during their respective May 1972 and December 1977 visits to Iran.

the 1978 assassination of Texaco oil executive Paul Grimm in Ahwaz, Iran.

assisting in the 1979 takeover by Iranian militants of the U.S. embassy in Tehran.

the 1979 bombing in Tehran that killed the democratically-elected Iranian President, Mohammad Ali-Rajai, and Prime Minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar.

During the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein permitted the MEK, also known as the “People’s Mojahedin,” to establish bases inside Iraq. Saddam armed the MEK and provided them with financial and logistical support to carry out terrorist attacks inside Iran. In 1988, the MEK, with Saddam’s assistance, launched a ground invasion of Iran.

In Operation Mersad, Iranian forces defeated the MEK, which had hoped to establish control over Iranian territory to establish a rival Iranian government. Had the MEK succeeded, the Middle East would have seen its first genuine terrorist state. Establishment of a terrorist state would have to wait until the Syrian civil war, when ISIL proclaimed an independent caliphate in occupied territory in Syria and Iraq.

After the United States ousted Saddam in the 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq, the MEK forces were confined to U.S.-protected compounds in Iraq, the most prominent being Camp Ashraf, the former U.S. military’s Camp Liberty. The new Iraqi government demanded the MEK forces leave Iraq. Acceding to Iraqi demands, the United States re-located 3,000 MEK members to the Manez base in Albania, which the MEK calls “Ashraf 3.” The MEK, which reportedly receives support from Israel’s Mossad, is said to be involved in money laundering and sex trafficking through the intensive use of crypto-currencies like Bitcoin.

Not surprisingly, MEK forces joined with ISIL forces in battling against Syrian and Iraqi government forces. The MEK saw ISIL as a natural ally in fighting pro-Iranian governments in Baghdad and Damascus. It was well-known to Western intelligence agencies that the MEK and ISIL had established an alliance, but, nevertheless, the Barack Obama administration removed the MEK from the U.S. State Department’s terrorist list in 2012. From 1997 to 2012, the United States officially designated the MEK as a foreign terrorist organization.

After ISIL forces were routed in Syria and Iraq, the United States pressured Albania to allow the Islamist terrorists to join their MEK allies in Albania. ISIL terrorists and their families have reportedly been housed in buildings in Tirana that were formerly occupied by MEK members prior to their transfer to the Manez base.  From their Albanian base, MEK operatives have easily entered Kosovo, the location of another major NATO military base at Camp Bondsteel, near Ferizaj in eastern Kosovo. MEK terrorists, allied with sympathizers in Albania and Kosovo, have targeted Shi’a and Sufi Islamic institutions. It is also believed by some Albanian journalists, who have been intimidated by the Albanian government and MEK, that Ashraf 3 and Camp Bondsteel are being used to train MEK and other Middle Eastern mercenaries for a war against Iran to effect a NATO-led regime change operation.

The Albanian and Kosovo governments enjoy top-level access to the Trump administration. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, himself a one-time terrorist leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, are represented in Washington by Brian Ballard, a former Trump presidential campaign official who runs Ballard Partners, a lobbying firm based in Tallahassee, Florida.

Thanks to the political influence of the Rajavis, Rama, and Thaci, an unholy troika of the MEK, Albania, and Kosovo has blossomed under NATO’s nose in the Balkans. This troika’s tentacles extend throughout the Balkans and into Western Europe, particularly France, Italy, and Germany.

In June 2003, the Rajavi-operated MEK compound in the Paris suburb of Auvers-sur-Oise was raided by French police on the orders of anti-terrorist magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguière. Maryam Rajavi was arrested, along with over 100 other MEK members. Intense political pressure from Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Congress resulted in criminal charges, including those involving money laundering, being dropped by the French government.

The Office for the Protection of the German Constitution (DPA) has accused the MEK of not only money laundering but receiving charitable donations in return for “assisting” refugees. The Germans charges that the MEK’s charitable donations were spent on terrorist operations.

In 2004, a U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation report stated that the MEK financed its operations “through a complex international money laundering operation that uses accounts in Turkey, Germany, France, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.”

The MEK enjoys widespread support in the Trump White House, as well as in the U.S. Congress. One of the MEK’s biggest boosters is Trump’s National Security Adviser John Bolton. On April 1, 2017, Bolton addressed an MEK Nowruz (Persian New Year) conference in Albania and declared that the MEK would be celebrating taking power in Tehran before 2019. Bolton added, “I have believed for over a decade now that the declared policy of the United States should be regime change in Iran. And the sooner the better, for the sake of international peace and security.” Over many years, Bolton has repeatedly spoken at MEK events in Paris and New York and has reportedly accepted a total of $180,000 in speaker’s fees from the organization. The MEK primarily receives financial backing from Saudi Arabia and Israel. Some of the funds are funneled to Western politicians as honoraria in return for their speeches at MEK events in venues like Paris, Tirana, and New York.

In addition to Bolton, a frequent recipient of MEK speakers’ honoraria is former New York Mayor and Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani, a person who is so corrupt, the Italian mafia wanted to have him “eliminated.” Two former CIA directors, James Woolsey and Porter Goss, have spoken at MEK events, along with one former FBI director, Louis Freeh, Jr.

The MEK is represented in Washington by the law firm of Joseph diGenova and his wife, Victoria Toensing. DiGenova almost became Trump’s personal attorney. However, diGenova took his name out of consideration due to conflicts of interest and Giuliani accepted the job.

In June 2017, the MEK and ISIL coordinated a terrorist attack on the Iranian parliament in Tehran and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The terrorists were armed with AK-47s, hand grenades, and explosive-laden suicide vests. At least 12 people were killed in the attacks. The Trump White House defended the MEK/ISIL attack in stating, “We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote.” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called the White House statement “repugnant.”

The Trump administration’s neocons, notably Bolton and Giuliani, are hell-bent on regime change in Iran. They are ramping up their terrorist army in the Balkans for such a future war.

Iran Interlink Weekly Digest – 232

++ Last week, MEK have forgotten all about Iran have been vigorously trying to support the Neocons; it’s all about Americans now. MEK is trying to support Nicky Halley and her support for Israel. Reactions against this in Iranian opposition Farsi outlets have been to universally condemn the MEK. Many refer to the Lobelog article ‘US Forces Albania To Take IS Fighters After Hosting MEK’ and say, ‘we Iranians do not accept MEK as an opposition, they are just terrorists in Albania – mercenaries for Israel and the Neocons’. Along with this there have been many open letters and articles against the 30th June carnival in Paris, condemning France for allowing this to take place. ‘The only beneficiaries are the Iranian hardliners’, they complain.

++ In Albania, MEK issue statements saying, ‘anyone who separates is an agent of Iran’s intelligence ministry’. Some who have recently left, and Saber from Tabriz, have written to say: ‘Nobody buys this. Your problems are in Albania. Nothing to do with Iran or anywhere else. This is a result of your treatment of the members.’

In English:

++ Anne and Massoud Khodabandeh wrote an article published by Lobelog warning that after Albania was forced to host the terrorist MEK, America has now ordered the country’s leaders to accept ISIS fighters returning to the Balkans.

++ Behnam Gharagozli, Jon Roozenbeek and Adrià Salvador Palau in The New Arab examine John Bolton’s links with the MEK, warning ‘John Bolton’s ties to Iranian MEK make him more lobbyist than statesman’.

++ Writing in Tsarizm in Albania, Kozeta Çika repeated the warnings about ISIS fighters being hosted in Tirana.

++ Iran Interlink published a section of John Bolton’s Public Financial Disclosure Report which reveals payments from MEK for lobbying for them. The piece ends “Let’s remind ourselves, John Bolton is now America’s National Security Advisor”.

++ Mint Press published a piece by Wayne Madsen, originally in Strategic Culture Foundation, titled ‘NATO’s Terrorist Bases in Europe’. Madsen begins: “NATO and the United States, which, together, claim to be fighting some sort of amorphous “global war on terrorism,” have enabled a terrorist group to establish bases in two NATO member states – France and Albania – and one NATO protectorate, Kosovo. After evacuating forces of the anti-Iranian terrorist group Mojahedin-e-Khalq from their former bases in Iraq, the United States and NATO facilitated the group’s establishment of a well-guarded military base in Manez, Albania, near Tirana. In addition to hosting MEK members, NATO has convinced Albania to accept members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), who surrendered to Western special forces in Syria and Iraq.” Madsen describes MEK’s alliance with ISIS and funding from Israel’s Mossad and Saudi Arabia as well as high level political support in the Trump administration. The article concludes: “The Trump administration’s neocons, notably Bolton and Giuliani, are hell-bent on regime change in Iran. They are ramping up their terrorist army in the Balkans for such a future war.”

A Refugee Camp For Returning ISIS Fighters In Albania?

In the framework of the Conference Against Violent Extremism, held in Tirana a couple of days ago, the Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov stated that Albania will become a coordination centre for former ISIS fighters, who have deserted and want to return to their countries in the Balkans.

Kozeta Çika

In the relative silence of Albanian Prime Minister Rama, who during the press conference offered no additional details on such plan or any negotiated terms, there is a lot of speculation, mostly by online media.

Unfortunately, it seems that is not just a rumour. Recently there have been declarations from European leaders that the EU is considering the possibility of establishing a refugee camp outside its territory. Two days ago, regarding the same issue, the French newspaper “Le Monde” wrote that two countries that desire to join EU, Albania and Kosovo, have been discussed.

Even before, Albania has been used as a place that has sheltered unwanted people. In 2005, the US sent to Albania a group of prisoners from Guantanamo. From 2013-2016, Washington delivered MEK extremists to Albania from Iraq. It was the time when the State Secretary Hillary Clinton left MEK fighters off the US terrorist list, to allow members be sent to third countries. The EU did not accept them. At that time, the Albanian government agreed to set up a de-radicalization institute, to reintegrate extremists into society. But, the plan was not completed and it is said that the budget remained untouched in the US Embassy in Tirana. With the election of Trump as US President, following a new policy, now MEK is said to be allowed to re-organize, as a useful means to weaken Iran.

The same trajectory will be followed by former ISIS fighters originated from the Western Balkans, to be rehabilitated. With the right training, the former ISIS fighters will become a similar force against other radical countries in the Middle East.

Until now, the Albanian government has denied such reports. They say the topic regards the Centre of Coordination against Violent Extremism, which organized the international conference in Tirana a couple of days ago. In the conference, the Albanian government proposed to make it a regional centre that will carry out analysis, assessments, studies, information exchange and common programs against violent extremism.

The Albanian government has always been reserved and has not accepted publicly at once such controversial issues. Of course, Albanians would not be willing to accept terrorists in their country, even if they are penitent. Albania is considered a safe place regarding terrorism. But now many things are going to change. It is expected that there will be a greater flux of refugees from the Middle East through Albania, now that Turkey has closed its doors and Italy as well, with the election of the new government. Refugees may use Albania as a corridor to the West. The EU has already signed a cheque of 28 million euros with Serbia, to help the country set up shelter centres for emigrants. It remains to be seen if they will do the same thing with Albania.

Richard Engel from NBC’s On Assignment re-tweeted “Finally we have a concrete figure for how much John Bolton was paid to speak at an MEK event last year – $40k acc to his financial disclosure. That was just one of many appearances he’s made over the years, in support of the former terrorist group that wants to take over #Iran.”

On Assignment had aired a segment titled ‘The MEK’s man inside the White House’ asked ‘How did a fringe Iranian opposition group with a history of assassinating Americans get so cozy with the likes of John Bolton and Rudy Giuliani?’ Bolton was reluctant to reveal his financial links with the MEK to journalists.

Interestingly, after the $40,000 MEK payment, Bolton lists a payment of $100,000 by Guardian of Zion (#32) for an acceptance speech at an award ceremony.

Let’s remind ourselves, John Bolton is now America’s National Security Advisor.
