Iran Interlink Weekly Digest

Iran Interlink Weekly Digest – 44

++ An outpouring of detestation followed a declaration by the notorious MEK stooge Mansour Ghadarkhah of his intention make a film titled ‘The Birth of Terror’ to “put Maliki in his place”. Several years ago, Ghadarkhah moved from Germany to the US under MEK patronage as his reputation had become so dirty in Europe that his activities for them were severely constrained. Ghadarkhah’s proposed film was soon denounced as a propaganda exercise against former members of the MEK. He had previously worked with the MEK in Germany to clandestinely film Ali Akbar Rastgou, a vocal critic of the MEK, and label him as an agent of the IRI in Germany to put this out on Youtube. Rastgou began legal proceedings and Ghadarkhah immediately retracted the film. This is just one example from his many years of creating websites and spreading disinformation against MEK critics in Germany. Accordingly, Ghadarkhah’s request for finance along with his bank details was seen as nothing more than money laundry for the MEK.

Facing this overwhelming reaction by Iranians outside of Iran, with tens of articles exposing his past activities, this week Ghadarkhah wrote an ignominious article, published on MEK websites, swearing directly at anyone who has criticised his actions. He goes to the extent that he calls them all the ‘worms from the guts of the mullahs’. Over thirty people who knew him better than most have commented about him and Rajavi. Iran Fanous says how disgusting are he and the MEK that they use such contemptible language. Amir Movasaghi from Aawa Association asks ‘are those wriggling in the shit of Massoud Rajavi the worms, or us who said no to Saddam even in Abu Ghraib prison?’ A more lengthy article was written by one of the recently escaped survivors who is currently in Europe and writes regularly for Iran Interlink under the pseudonym Ahmad M K. In a direct, open letter to Ghadarkhah, he challenges every point made with a series of searing fact based criticisms and demands that Ghadarkhah explain himself. Nader Naderi submitted a short note on his weblog to expose the fact that part of Mansour Ghadarkhah’s writing is an exact copy of a piece by NCRI member Manuchehr Hezarkhani, written in 2011 swearing against Dr Hedayat Matin Daftary who had previously left NCRI. Naderi points out, “It is plain to see that you haven’t even written this yourself, and whoever did has simply plagiarised an old text.”

++ Among Iraqi newspaper articles translated by Sahar into Farsi, Araq al Qanun has an article which quotes Ghorban Ali Hossien Nejad, Massoud Rajavi’s main Arabic translator now living in Paris, describing Zafer al Ani (a former MP) as the go-between for corruption between the MEK and whoever they can find to work with.

++ Website Al Haghaegh has translated the November 2004 Los Angeles police report concerning the MEK. Along with references to the MEK in US State Department reports and comments by US officials about the MEK, the article simply states, “This is what we are dealing with and what some Americans are supporting and lobbying for”.

++ In an interview with Ashraf News agency, Bushra Nawaf al-Rimahi, who is Iraq’s Parliamentary candidate for the Sadeqoun faction, described the MEK as “the Israeli base in Iraq” and claimed, ”Saudi Arabia and Israel use the Mojahedin Khalq Organization to threaten Iraq’s security and to destabilize the country”. Describing their presence in Iraq as illegal and not conducive to the national interest he said, “The Mojahedin Khalq are actively crisis mongering and making sedition among different political parties in collusion with Mossad officers”, adding that the MEK enjoys the support of some Iraqi politicians from the Iraqia List and the Islamic Party.

++ The Eastern Azerbaijan branch of Nejat Association published its letter to Nouri al Maliki supporting the message of a previous open letter signed by 52 former MEK members and families in Europe and America, which urges Maliki to intervene to push aside Massoud Rajavi and his wife as the main problem to solving the crisis of Camp Liberty and asks for the gates of the camp to be opened. Many individual families have written similarly asking for help.

++ The MEK advertised on its websites that an unknown group called the Association of Believers in God have chosen Maryam Rajavi as their Woman of the Year for 2013. This has become a joke for many people who have pointed out the most ridiculous aspect of this is the list of losing candidates which included Sonya Ghandi and Michelle Obama, and their like. Paid adverts are one thing, they say, but Rajavi’s ego has apparently become so inflated that she now needs to position herself above all others.

++ This week an MEK lobbyist held a fundraising (money laundry) event in California. Paid speaker Patrick Kennedy is quoted saying, “If you want to see the bright future of Iran under the rule of the Mojahedin Khalq just look at Ashraf camp now”. Bahar Irani has ridiculed Rajavi’s lobbyists saying, “No matter how much money they get, they don’t even spend ten minutes reading the news. If they had they would have seen that the sham city of Ashraf has since collapsed and nothing remains but wild dogs and concrete. Having said that, how little they think of their listeners’ intelligence to compare a collapsed camp with a country. No wonder the MEK’s own supporters never listen to their TV or read their sites.”

++ Reza Akhlaghi from Foreign Policy Association held a discussion with Gareth Porter following publication of his book, Manufactured Crisis: The Untold History of the Iranian Nuclear Scare. Asked why he wrote the book Porter explained, “Because I had come to realize that the news media account of the issue had been terribly misleading… The real trigger for my beginning to think along those lines was the discovery of evidence that the crucial evidence in the official and media account had been falsified.” The source of this falsified account was the MEK and behind them Israel. Porter continued, “Karsten Voigt provided the most crucial revelation in my book – that the documents that had been described in the news media as having come from the purloined computer of a scientist participating on a covert Iranian nuclear weapons research program, were in fact given to the BND, the German intelligence agency, by the MEK, and that the BND had concluded that the MEK source was “doubtful”.” These documents were given to the MEK by Mossad and Porter concludes “The complete story of those documents in the book, however, includes the evidence I found in my investigation that they were fabricated by Israel in order to advance a strategy of provoking a military confrontation between the United States and Iran”.”

++ Iran’s Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said that individual terrorist MEK members should be handed over to Iran to be put on trial for their crimes against the Iranian nation, which include “killing thousands of our citizens, damage to Iranian public property and helping our enemies… In order to restore the rights of the Iranian nation and enforce justice, these traitors must be punished”, Pour-Mohammadi said. Criticising lack of progress by UNAMI in removing the MEK from his country, Iraqi Minister of Justice Hassan al-Shammari had said on March 3rd that Iraq would be sympathetic to a request by Tehran to extradite named MEK members. Pour-Mohammadi said, “The handover of the criminal traitors (MEK agents) to Iran does not need a request, but if the Iraqi justice minister has made such a suggestion, we will again lodge an official request to turn them over to our tribunals”.

++ Nejat Association reports that the MEK have joined with a Sunni terrorist group that seeks to kill Shiites. A Sunni group named Talaye Jaish Muhammad (Vanguards Army of Muhammad) confirmed the MEK’s membership in its establishment. The group issued a statement on March 3rd to declare that it is seeking to kill Shiites. Talaye Jaish Muhammad called on all Sunni organizations in Arab and Islamic countries in Asia, North Africa and Syria to form a large army and to support armed Sunni insurgents in Iraq and Lebanon. According to reliable sources Talaye Jaish Muhammad have recruited members in different regions in the world including Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon and the Mojahedin Khalq Organization.

++ Mazda Parsi from Nejat Bloggers writes about “Women’s rights according to Maryam Rajavi”. After detailing the gender specific oppression and sexual abuses endured by women in the MEK, and praising those who have spoken out after their escape, Parsi concludes that as long as the cult member is “mentally and physically imprisoned by the leaders, every order by the cult leader may sound normal and sometimes necessary, but as soon as they find the least opportunity to break through into light and a normal life, they find out the agonies and abuses they have suffered.”

++ Ramin Mazaheri reporting from Press TV said that a French group, which warns against violent cults, “recently faced the dangers of the Mojahedin Khalq an anti-Iranian terrorist group whose leadership is based just outside of Paris. Association PEACE bravely held a demonstration in the MEK’s hometown, and was quickly confronted by the routine violence of their members”. According to Mazaheri, Association PEACE studies cults and warns people so as to prevent further indoctrination and more ruined lives. Although many are painfully aware of the MEK’s violent history says Association PEACE, many French people are kept in the dark. Despite the mass graves recently uncovered at the MEK’s Camp Ashraf in Iraq, their massacre of Iraqi Kurds for Saddam Hussein and the assassination of Iranian citizens and leaders, the MEK still has friends in high places. Those friends do not include any Iranian citizens, but they do include France’s political elite.

++ Reporting on a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Christina Wilkie writes in Huffington Post, “All dressed in their trademark yellow shirts… MEK members attended Thursday’s hearing to advance a bold proposition: that the thousands of their adherents still living in Iraq should be granted asylum and moved to the United States… Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) emerged Thursday as the most vocal proponent of this plan, which was also championed at the hearing by Reps. Ted Poe (R-Texas) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.). Rohrabacher aimed his questions at the only witness testifying that day, Secretary of State John Kerry.” Sidestepping the question whether the survivors of Camp Ashraf would be given refuge in America, “Kerry went on to describe a new position he had created within the State Department, that of senior advisor for Mujahedin-e Khalq resettlement. In October of last year, he appointed Jonathan Winer, a longtime Kerry adviser and an expert in international law, to the position.

Iraqi Authorities' stance on the MEK

Saudi Arabia and Israel use MKO to destabilize Iraq

Saudi Arabia and Israel use MKO to destabilize Iraq, said a member of Iraq Sadeqoun fraction.

According to Fars News Agency Bushra Nawaf al-Rimahi Member of the Sadeqoun faction who is also Iraq’s Parliamentry candidate said :”Saudi Arabia and Israel use Mujahedin Khalq Organization to threat Iraq security and destabilize the country.

In an interview with Ashraf News agency Al-Rimahi Declared:” the MKO is the Israeli base in Iraq and presence of the group’s elements in Iraq is not in accordance with the political interests of the country rather some foreign countries use it to hinder the political progress of the country.

The Iraqi Parliamentry candidate said: Mujahedin Khalq are actively crisis mongering and making sedition among different political parties in collusion with Musad officers.

Al-Rumahi reiterated: the group’s presence in Iraqi soil is not in accordance with the countries’ interests especially because the group allied with Saddam regime and killed Iraqi people . There are evidences of their cooperation with Saudi Arabia as well as Zionist Regime . With regard to the group’s continuous interference in Iraq’s internal affairs their presence in the country is illegal and the group members are not eligible to legally entitle to the refugee Status.

Member of Iraq’s Sadeqoun faction said the group enjoys the support of some Iraqi politicians from Iraqia List and the Islamic Party.

The cult of Rajavi

Women’s rights according to Maryam Rajavi

Since 1985 when the so-called" Ideological Revolution" was run by the leaders of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO), the group was officially turned into a cult. It was an absolute deviation from a Women's rights according to Maryam Rajavipolitical violent opposition group to a terrorist cult of personality in which the members were forced to divorce their spouses and to dedicate their whole mind and heart to the group guru, Massoud Rajavi. He—who is currently disappeared— launched its abusive mind control system to indoctrinate members and maintain them in the cult.

Abusive attitude of the leaders of the Cult of Rajavi has had different dimensions; the most crucial one seems to be endured by female members of the cult. Although the self-claimed president of the MKO’s propaganda arm, Maryam Rajavi chants the slogan of “Revolutionary, Progressive, Moslem Women” among her Western brainwashed and/or paid audience, women who have recently left the MKO are free and courageous enough to reveal the real situation for women inside the cult.

Women’s rights abuses committed in the Cult of Rajavi  included forced labour, sleep deprivation, mandatory celibacy and particularly sexual abuse. The former was not actually committed by use of violence but the mechanism that made female members to endure such a treatment is really important.

In 2012 a number of defected women of the MKO spoke out about the sexual abuses they suffered in the MEK. They described how Massoud Rajavi, deceived them into sleeping with him after attending a ceremony called "Salvation Dance" in which the token women had to dace naked in front of him—Maryam Rajavi has actually been the real organizer of that cult jargon, she tried to convince the elite women who were selected to marry Massoud to do what she called "uniting with the ideological leader".

Former members of the MKO also exposed a program of coerced hysterectomies for all women members in order to "neutralize their sexuality". This way the cult leaders tried to cut the last links that might have tied the female members to the outside world.

The coercive sexual relationship in the MKO may not seem to be a forced jargon but when the female members get departed from the cult structure the whole story turned out to be a rape. Until the cult member is mentally and physically imprisoned by the leaders every order by the cult leader may sound normal and sometimes necessary but as soon as they find the least opportunity to break through light and normal life, they will find out the agonies and abuses they have suffered.

Fortunately, until now there have been a few female defectors who have started denouncing the extreme violation of women rights in the MKO. Unfortunately, there are still a large number of women taken as hostages in the Cult of Rajavi. Let’s hope the best for those captured ones even though Maryam Rajavi could be able to deceive a few number of woman’s rights advocates in the world.

Terrorist groups and the MEK

Together with Salafi terrorists MKO seeks Shiite massacre

Mujahedin Khalq Organization joined a Sunni terrorist group that sought to kill Shiites.

A Sunni group named Talaye Jaish Muhammad (Vanguards Army of Muhammad) confirmed the MKO’s Mujahedin Khalq Organization joined a Sunni terrorist group that sought to kill Shiites.membership in its establishment, according to Al Javar. The group issued a statement on Monday (March 3rd) to declare that it is seeking to kill Shiites. Jaish Muhammad called on all sunni organizations in Arab and Islamic countries in Asia, North Africa and Syria to form a large army and to support armed Sunni insurgents in Iraq and Lebanon.

According to reliable sources Vanguards of Jaish Muhammad have recruited members in different regions in the world including Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon and the Mujahedin Khalq Organization.

The statement calls on the governments of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia to join their alleged anti Shiite resistance asking them to expel Shiites from North African countries. Jaish Muhammad asked these governments to prevent the influence and development of Shiites in their territories in order to allegedly protect the stability of their governments.

Justice Minister: Mojahedin Khalq terrorists must stand trial in Iran

Iran’s Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi says the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) members should be handed over to Iran to be put on trial for their crimes against the Iranian nation.Justice Minister: Mojahedin Khalq terrorists must stand trial in Iran

“These individuals are criminals and guilty and they must be handed over to our courts so that we would deal with their offenses,” Pour-Mohammadi said on Sunday.

He said that the MKO agents must stand trial for killing “thousands of our citizens”, damaging the Iranians’ public properties and “helping our enemies.”

“In order to restore the rights of the Iranian nation and enforce justice, these traitors must be punished,” Pour-Mohammadi said.

Pour-Mohammadi further pointed to remarks by sIraqi Minister of Justice Hassan al-Shammari on March 3 that Tehran can ask Baghdad to extradite MKO members.

“The handover of the criminal traitors (MKO agents) to Iran does not need a request, but if the Iraqi justice minister has made such a suggestion, we will again lodge an official request to turn them over to our tribunals,” Pour-Mohammadi said.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said last December that the agency and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) had relocated 311 out of 3,200 residents of the Camp Hurriya (Liberty) to third countries.

In December 2011, the UN and Baghdad agreed to relocate some 3,000 MKO members from Camp New Iraq, formerly known as Camp Ashraf, to the former US-held Camp Hurriya.

The last group of the MKO terrorists was evicted by the Iraqi government in September 2013 and relocated to Camp Hurriya to await potential relocation to other countries.

The MKO is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community and has committed numerous terrorist acts against Iranians and Iraqis.

The group fled Iran in 1986 for Iraq, where it received now-executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s support and set up Camp Ashraf near the Iranian border.

Mujahedin Khalq; A proxy force

Gareth porter on the MKO-Israel collusion to provoke war

Gareth Porter, author of “Manufactured Crisis: The Untold History of the Iranian Nuclear Scare”, is a renowned investigative journalist and historian on U.S. national security policy. Porter was the 2012 winner of the Gellhorn Prize for journalism awarded by the Gellhorn Trust in the U.K.  His previous book was Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam published by University of California Press in 2005.  He has taught international studies at the City College of New York and American University, where he was the first Academic Director for Peace and Conflict Resolution in the Washington Semester program. Dr. Porter sat down with Reza Akhlaghi of the Foreign Policy Association to discuss his newly released book.

The FP interview was published under the title "A Candid Discussion with Gareth Porter" on March 4, 2014. Reza Akhlaghi thoroughly discussed the Israel-MKO collusion with Dr. Porter who has documented the MKO-Israel misleading role in manufacturing the Iranian nuclear crisis. The following was extracted from the full interview:

–Iran’s “possible military dimensions” as one of the sticking issues in the current nuclear negotiations must be resolved—according to the White House—to the satisfaction of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In your conversations with the former German Foreign Office coordinator of North American-German relations, Karsten Voigt, the documents at the hands of the IAEA that point to the presence of such covert military program come from the Iranian dissident group, Mojahedin-E-Khalq (MEK) organization. Tell us about your conversations with Mr. Voigt, how credible these documents are, and if they will be used in the current negotiations?

-Karsten Voigt provided the most crucial revelation in my book – that the documents that had been described in the news media as having come from the purloined computer of a scientist participating on a covert Iranian nuclear weapons research program, were in fact given to the BND, the German intelligence agency, by the MEK, and that the BND had concluded that the MEK source was “doubtful”.  Voigt, who is now retired from the German Foreign Office, told me in an interview last year that senior officials of the BND informed him of that fact in November 2004 after Secretary of State Colin Powell had spoken publicly about Iranian efforts to combine their ballistic missile, the Shahab-3, with a “weapon” – meaning a nuclear weapon.  They knew that Powell was referring indirectly to information in those papers and they were alarmed, because it appeared that history was about to repeat itself: Powell had cited information from another MEK source two years earlier as the centerpiece of his rationale for war in Iraq.  That source was the now infamous “Curveball”.  The BND had tried in vain to warn the CIA not to rely on that information, and Voigt believed they now wanted him to do something to warn the United States not to use the information in the “laptop documents” either.  Voigt did, in fact, try to do so.  But in the event, the Bush administration pushed those documents on the IAEA and they became the basis for that Agency’s indictment of Iran’s nuclear program from 2008 to 2011.

The complete story of those documents in the book, however, includes the evidence I found in my investigation that they were fabricated by Israel in order to advance a strategy of provoking a military confrontation between the United States and Iran.

Iran Interlink Weekly Digest

Iran Interlink Weekly Digest – 43

++ Anne Singleton’s article ‘Mojahedin Khalq (Rajavi cult) and Struan Stevenson: Another propaganda stunt, another failure’ highlights demands by members of the Iraq’s Foreign Relations Committee for a boycott of the European Parliament’s Iraq Delegation because of the role of Struan Stevenson and others in the European Parliament who act as facilitators for the Israelis, Saddamists and MEK who have a shared anti-Iraqi government agenda. Singleton points out that, “Although the MEK’s 3,000+ foreign presence in Iraq is tiny in relation to the massive numbers of Iraqi civilians being killed and is irrelevant to the complex social, civil, economic and security issues of the burgeoning democracy, the MEK has enjoyed extraordinarily disproportionate attention in the European Parliament because of the Israeli backing for the group.” Singleton reminds Stevenson and his ilk of the fate of Paulo Casaca who in 2009 was deselected as an MEP in his Portuguese constituency when his support for the terrorist MEK was exposed by local media.

++ Iran Interlink translated a Farsi article by Amir Hussein Panahi, Ariya Iran into English. Titled, ‘The fake Women’s Day of Maryam Rajavi’s male dominated shop front (from faking history to insulting Iranian women)’, the writer reveals that the front row was dominated by men posing as bodyguards and “a few European and Arab women who are known to get paid by Rajavi to attend such meetings and shows in order to applaud her; the ones who turn up each time and never change… Is it not ironic that from the many Iranians living outside Iran not even one of them wanted to participate?” The bulk of the article is a scathing attack on Maryam Rajavi’s promotion of her own “samples and examples of progressive women”. After pointing out that women in Iran are among the most highly educated in the region, Panahi lists the various ways in which the MEK women “fall into the category of the most uneducated female population in the world”, as “for the last 30 years they have had no contact with any education whether scientific or otherwise.”

++ There was a big reaction against this from Iranian women whose articles and comments generally denounce Maryam Rajavi as a vicious and nasty woman. How can she put on such a false face and talk about women’s rights they ask.

++ MEK is in serious overdrive to support terrorism on their websites. Specifically, under the name Siamak Dehghani, the MEK’s Aftab Karan site criticises those Iranians who are campaigning for the to release of several Iranian border soldiers kidnapped by Al Qaida and Jaish Al Adl. The MEK now call this “a smear campaign against Jaish al Adl”. This has brought into question by commentators how Western and Saudi support for such actions translates into overt support for terrorism. Many have referred to this as the latest proof that Americans are breeding terror not fighting it, that this terrorism originates in the West not in Iraq or the other trouble spots.

++ Russia Today reports on a book by CBS News’s Dan Raviv which claims President Obama and MOSSAD want Israel’s assassinations of Iran’s top nuclear scientists to stop. In 2012 an NBC News report concluded that “deadly attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists are being carried out by an Iranian dissident group that is financed, trained and armed by Israel’s secret service.” The report cited two senior Obama administration officials as confirming that Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) is behind the killings, though the officials denied the US played any role in the program.

++ Fars News reported President Rohani’s response to the above news. Speaking at the 27th Khwarizmi scientific festival in Tehran Rohani said, “Owing to their ability to create power and development, the industrial states assume it (scientific progress) as their exclusive right in a way that their spy agencies embark on assassinating our scientists and intellectuals to prevent the country’s development and progress…” He asks western states, “You were informed of the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, then why did you assassinate our nuclear scientists and killed our missile specialists while we have and will make use of our missiles just for defending our country.”

++ Iraqi media have reported on statements by the terrorist group Lashkar Mohammad, asking Wahhabi groups from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and other countries to get together under one umbrella to fight what they call the ‘infidel Safavi shias of Iran’. Lashkar Mohammad, a known affiliate of al Qaida, have revealed on the Araq al Qanoon website that they already enjoy good relations and cooperation with the MEK and that many of MEK are working with them.

++ After the threats made by the MEK that they will eliminate ex members in the West, Milad Ariyai in Germany has written with reference to the history of MEK violence against ex members. He concludes his article saying that at this point of time, any escalation of violence in Europe and America will result in severe legal and social repercussions for the MEK. Even their backers will not be able to tolerate and turn a blind eye to their actions. In any case, says Ariyai, the time has passed when there were three thousand against two former members. The number of ex members has increased now to hundreds if not a thousand and is increasing daily as they escape Iraq and make their way to Europe.

++ Press TV reported Iraqi Minister of Justice Hassan al-Shammari saying the Islamic Republic of Iran can demand the extradition of members of the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) under an agreement signed between Iran and Iraq on the exchange of prisoners and criminals. He noted that Iraq will hand the terrorists over to Iran should the Islamic Republic ask for their extradition. On February 19, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari called on the United Nations (UN) to speed up efforts to relocate MKO members.

++ Ghoraban Ali Hossein Nejad’s article is titled, ‘MEK swearing at families is irrelevant to any struggle’. He refers to Rajavi’s recent threats against ex members and the families and in particular the way he makes MEK members swear at their own family members online, in the media or wherever. He compares this with a passage from the Qoran in which Ebrahim addresses his infidel father with the utmost respect and dignity, saying ‘hail to you my beloved father’. Hossein Nejad compares this to what the MEK makes members shout at their mothers, fathers and siblings; “Our shame, our shame, our vulgar family”. Rajavi, hiding behind such slogans, claims this is for the struggle and the resistance. But the author makes his point by giving the example of his daughter in Iran who has never seen her other sister and who has never spoken against the MEK and who wants only to see her sister inside the MEK. “The MEK brought my other daughter to swear at her in this way even though she has nothing against her.” This, says Hossein Nejad, has nothing to do with the struggle.

++ Mazda Parsi of Nejat Bloggers says Massoud Rajavi is panicking over the perceived collapse of his cult after it was revealed that out of 210 MEK transferred to Albania from Camp Liberty, over seventy immediately abandoned the MEK and separated from the other arrivals who are still under MEK hegemony. “The panic of collapse is also evidently seen in the new message of the cult leader Massoud Rajavi. He runs a torrent of fabrications against former members… labelling them as the agents of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry in Iraq.” Parsi puts this down to defectors “enjoying the free world they have access to the Internet. They run their own websites and weblogs and use different media including online social networks to denounce the cult and its leaders. Having experienced the horrible life of the cult and witnessed the atrocities of the group leaders against its own members, Iranian country men, and Iraqi Kurds and Shiites… The new MKO’s flood of accusations against defectors and critics has no use except [as] a tool to threat[en] other members who are still taken as hostages behind the bars of the cult. All these allegations and accusations are made to give a lesson to the other hostages of the consequences of leaving the cult. In fact, the target audience of the MKO propaganda particularly in Farsi and the alleged messages of Rajavi are exclusively for the brainwashed followers and a few misled sympathizers of the cult.”

++ Maryam Sanjabi interviewed Massoud Khodabandeh for the Call of Truth website about the untold story of the Mojahedin Khalq. Part of this interview was translated into English. Khodabandeh, who many spent years in close proximity to both Massoud and Maryam Rajavi, describes the MEK as a cult and says “only a person with abilities, motivations, and psycho complexes of Rajavi could bring the MeK to the current point.” Khodabandeh concludes, “Rajavi is not a normal man. He is a different person and knowing him is a different job. Rajavi’s illness is odd and very dangerous. For myself, I’ve seen different persons at all levels but I dare to say that I’ve never seen anyone like him who has no boundaries in any field except self-preservation. I think that anybody has a boundary that they eventually stops at. Ordinary persons no way can break boundaries into infinity. It requires madness; an exceptional madness that Rajavi has. He is the only one who still hunts for new boundaries to burst it and be satisfied. Maryam Rajavi has another type of madness. But even she is motivated by Massoud. Maryam Rajavi’s pugnacity, tyranny, ignorance and crime are engineered by her husband.”

++ Nejat Association in Tehran says the Mojahedin were disappointed when, according to Local Website, “Lawmakers in Spain voted on Thursday [February 25th] in favour of a bill that will reduce the capacity of the country’s courts to pursue cases of human rights abuses committed abroad.” The bill curbs the use of the doctrine of universal jurisdiction, which allows judges to try certain cases of crimes against humanity that took place in other countries. The Mojahedin Khalq Organization was seeking to manipulate the Spanish judges to promote its agenda. After the September 1st Camp Ashraf clashes and the allegedly missing 7 Camp residents, MKO leaders forced members in Camp Liberty into hunger strike. After 107 days of fruitless show of hunger strike and the escalation of criticisms, Maryam Rajavi ordered an end to the hunger strike under the pretext that a Spanish investigative judge accepted to investigate the allegations of two members of the MEK that Iraq’s National Security Advisor has been involved in Camp Ashraf events. Then the group websites broadcasted this as a ‘victory’ and in Farsi they portrayed this as an actual court ruling against an Iraqi official.

++ The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday thanked Italy for welcoming seven Iranian refugees from Camp Hurriya in Iraq. In a statement issued by UNHCR Italia, the agency welcomed the Italian government’s decision to let into the country a total of 15 Iranian refugees from Iraq, including the seven latest arrivals. This is giving “hope to Iranian citizens still living in Camp Hurriya whose safety is in grave danger,” said Laurens Jolles, UNHCR delegate for southern Europe.

UNHCR thanks Italy for welcoming Iranian refugees

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday thanked Italy for welcoming seven Iranian refugees from Camp Hurriya in Iraq. In a statement issued by UNHCR Italia, the agency

The UN High Commissioner for Refugeeswelcomed the Italian government’s decision to let into the country a total of 15 Iranian refugees from Iraq, including the seven latest arrivals.

This is giving “hope to Iranian citizens still living in Camp Hurriya whose safety is in grave danger,” said Laurens Jolles, UNHCR delegate for southern Europe. Camp Hurriya near Baghdad has been repeatedly targeted for attack, including a deadly rocket bombardment in December, prompting the UN refugee agency to ask Iraqi authorities to ramp up security at the camp. The UN refugee agency has also called on the international community to help relocate its 3,200 residents to safe locations outside Iraq.

Former Camp Ashraf, where residents were previously staying, mainly hosted Iranian exiles including several members of a group known as the People’s Mojahedeen of Iran. More than 3,000 residents were subsequently relocated to Camp Hurriya, previously known as Camp Liberty, while the UNHCR determined their refugee status to resettle them outside the country, under an agreement signed in December 2011 between the UN and the Iraqi government.

Seven refugees from Camp Hurriya received by Italy

As part of the humanitarian effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Ministry for Home Affairs, 7 Iranian refugees arrived in Italy today from Camp Hurriya, in Iraq. Their arrival in our country is a response to the numerous appeals by the United Nations to find an agreed solution, one that is fully

Seven refugees from Camp Hurriya received by Italyrespectful of human rights, for the former residents of Camp Ashraf. It was promoted by the Farnesina in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

This concrete gesture confirms Italy’s front-line commitment to defend and respect refugees’ human rights and underscores our country’s efforts to support the Iraqi Government’s right to territorial sovereignty.

The group arriving in Rome today brings the number of Iranian refugees, former residents of Ashraf, received in Italy to 15. Priority has been given to women and persons needing medical treatment, which will be provided in our country’s healthcare facilities.

The Italian Embassy in Baghdad is continuing with its contacts with the Iraqi authorities and local UNHCR officers to assess whether Italy can take in other refugees, in line with the commitment of our main international partners.

Former members of the MEK

Breaking borders into insanity

Massoud Khodabandeh is chartered engineer of electronics from Leeds University, UK. While he was studying in Newcastle to gain engineering diploma, joined groups of students opposing the Shah’s regime. In 1978, Mr. Khodabandeh co-founded the Society for Iranian Muslim Students in Newcastle Polytechnic, which included MeK members and sympathizers. He notes that nearly all persons who joined the MeK after the revolution were either pupils or technical students.

“I was first introduced to politics in Iran, but became more interested in the various opposition groups while a student in Newcastle. I joined groups of students opposing the Shah’s regime, and in the last years of my stay in Newcastle became more and more interested in the so-called ‘revolutionary groups’, one of which was the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization of Iran (MKO).” Massoud Khodabandeh describes that period. “In those days the Mojahedin comprised no more than a group of martyred or imprisoned young people who were [considered] as followers of Ayatollah Khomeini.”

In 1981, Mr. Khodabandeh in Paris joined Massoud Rajavi and the other Mojahedin, who had fled Iran following the MeK failed revolt on June 20. With fluent English and a little French, Massoud Khodabandeh was assigned to a team specifically taking care of Rajavi’s personal affairs. He travelled to Baghdad a few weeks before the arrival of Massoud Rajavi from Paris.

During the years of staying in Iraq, Mr. Khodabandeh participated in many joint projects with the Iraqi army. These included electrical and Telecom training to the Republican Guards of Saddam Hussein. During these years, he also escorted Maryam Rajavi on her holidays to European as well as Arab countries across the world.

Up to 1996, Massoud Khodabandeh was a high ranking commander of the National Liberation Army in charge of the security of the leadership. He was also member of the Executive Committee of the MeK a member of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, the so called political wing of the Mojahedin. On that year, he seceded from the Rajavi’s clult. According to Mr. Khodabandeh, from year before, he was disagree with “un-diplomatic, un-political, and in many cases inhumane conducts” of Rajavis. In 1996, he left the organization to London and presented himself to the British authorities (and later the French authorities. )

Currently, Massoud Khodabandeh is director of Middle East Strategy Consultants and engages in helping the authorities in Iraq to bring about a peaceful solution to the impasse at Camp Liberty and help rescue other victims of the MeK cult.

Maryam Sanjabi of Call of Truth has interviewed Massoud Khodabandeh about untold story of the MeK. What follows is an excerpt of the interview:

• The MeK ideology which is mixture of Marxism and Islam could not hide its contradictions within itself forever. On the other, only a person with abilities, motivations, and psycho complexes of Rajavi could bring the MeK to the current point.

• There would be disputation over causes of this disaster (the MeK), but no one doubts that it is a real disaster. Today, all agree that this group has all the specifications of a cult. But a cult that pretend being an organization.

• “Organization” has distinctive feature, as “cult” has. It is not possible that a group for 30 years has a self-styled leader at the head, and his wife, with repugnant obscenity, calls herself “president”, at the same time has not one page of Statutes, regulations, laws, and methods. Furthermore, which organization every day shifts its policy and strategy and tactics?

• The MeK has all the features of a cult. The Cult Information Center, based in London, provides a definition for cults that most specialists and psychiatrists verify it. It says that a cult or sect is a group that has all five characters below:

1. Apply psychological coercion to recruit, retain and control members.

(In case of Rajavi’s cult, it is enough to refer to brainwashing sessions, ideological revolution, the so-called boiler meetings and daily reports)

2. Constitutes a totalitarian society.

3. The founder or leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, unpredictable, and charismatic.

4. Believes that “the ends justify the means”.

5. Cult’s wealth does not benefit its members or society.

• Under Saddam, Rajavi used to receive capita per the number of members. The higher the numbers, the more earnings. That is why he gets people into Iraq and keeps them there.

• Since 1382 (2003), more than 1,000 members have defected Rajavi’s gang.

• Out of 210 members who entered Albania, 75 of them upon arrival announced defection and even refused to stay with the others one night.

• Rajavi, best of all, knows that the main threat to his organization neither is IRIG nor is Iraqi army. His threats are those who have been deceived for three decades to work without pay. Masoud and Maryam have repeatedly said that someday one of those people will kill them.

• This week ago in Paris, Maryam Rajavi explicitly ordered physical elimination of survivors and dissidents of the cult…. Rajavis have announced that overthrow of the Islamic Republic requires elimination of critics and dissidents.”

• Preparing food and other daily necessities of Maryam and Masoud Rajavi was at the hand of Hosein Dalili, brother of Bijan Rahimi (Khosro Itelaat). As you know, Hosein Dalili recently died in Iraq due to cancer and Rajavi until the last day refused to send him out.

• Masoud Dalili, senior commander of Rajavi’s escort team, two years ago escaped from the MeK. But they could kidnap him from the Baghdad Hotel, and return to the Camp Ashraf. There, after two years of torture, they killed Dalili and burned his face so maybe the Iraqi forces not discover his identity.

• In meetings with the chief of Iraqi intelligence, Dr. Barak, Rajavi used to obligate me to buy a special Cuban cigar that its maintenance needed to a box made in Cuba that with its special equipment kept constant temperature and humidity. Similarly, when Baghdad was under bombardment of US army, I was required to purchase several dozen types of specific French cheeses for Tariq Aziz who was stationed on the last floor of Rashid Hotel (the site was partially protected from air attack due to the presence of reporters).

• Rajavi is not a normal man. He is a different person and knowing him is a different job. Rajavi’s illness is odd and very dangerous. For myself, I’ve seen different persons at all levels but I dare to say that I’ve never seen anyone like him who has no boundaries in no field except self-preservation. I think that anybody has a boundary that eventually stops over it. Ordinary persons no way can break boundaries into infinity. It requires madness; an exceptional madness that Rajavi has it. He is the only one who still hunts for new boundaries to burst it and be satisfied.

• Maryam Rajavi has another type of madness. But even she is motivated by Masoud. Maryam Rajavi’s pugnacity, tyranny, ignorance and crime are engine by her husband.
