Terrorist groups and the MEK

Document Reveals Mojahedin Khalq and Al-Qaeda Collaboration

An Iran-based right group said that it has obtained authentic documents proving that the terrorist Document Reveals Mojahedin Khalq and Al-Qaeda CollaborationMojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) has long had tight cooperation with Al-Qaeda’s terrorist cell in Iraq.

The document released by the Association for Defending the Victims of Terrorism (ADVT) belongs to the US-Iraq joint coordination force in Iraq’s Diyala province, where the MKO’s main training camp, Camp Ashraf (now the Camp of New Iraq) is located.

The document released by the Association for Defending the Victims of Terrorism (ADVT)

The document reveals that the MKO has played an active role in insecurities and instabilities in Diyala.

“Our special sources have informed that the MKO, based in Camp Ashraf in the North of Khales, has played a covert role in insecurities and instability in the Diyala province and it has had extraordinary political, military and social activities in the form of regular conferences and gatherings in Camp Ashraf,”the US-Iraq joint coordination force said in the document.

“There are clear indications about participation of al-Qaeda top figures and cells in these meetings. They have a strong presence in the meetings at Camp Ashraf,”the document says.
The document further reveals that the terrorist group has helped the Al-Qaeda mount heavy canons and large-caliber machineguns onto their military vehicles.

The MKO has been in Iraq’s Diyala province since the 1980s.
Iraqi security forces took control of the training base of the MKO at Camp Ashraf – about 60km (37 miles) north of Baghdad – in 2009 and detained dozens of the members of the terrorist group.
The Iraqi authority also changed the name of the military center from Camp Ashraf to the Camp of New Iraq.

The MKO, whose main stronghold is in Iraq, is blacklisted by much of the international community, including the United States.

Before an overture by the EU, the MKO was on the European Union’s list of terrorist organizations subject to an EU-wide assets freeze. Yet, the MKO puppet leader, Maryam Rajavi, who has residency in France, regularly visited Brussels and despite the ban enjoyed full freedom in Europe.

The MKO is behind a slew of assassinations and bombings inside Iran, a number of EU parliamentarians said in a recent letter in which they slammed a British court decision to remove the MKO from the British terror list. The EU officials also added that the group has no public support within Iran because of their role in helping Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).

Many of the MKO members abandoned the terrorist organization while most of those still remaining in the camp are said to be willing to quit but are under pressure and torture not to do so.

A May 2005 Human Rights Watch report accused the MKO of running prison camps in Iraq and committing human rights violations.

According to the Human Rights Watch report, the outlawed group puts defectors under torture and jail terms.

The group, founded in the 1960s, blended elements of Islamism and Stalinism and participated in the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran in 1979. Ahead of the revolution, the MKO conducted attacks and assassinations against both Iranian and Western targets.

The group started assassination of the citizens and officials after the revolution in a bid to take control of the newly established Islamic Republic. It killed several of Iran’s new leaders in the early years after the revolution, including the then President, Mohammad Ali Rajayee, Prime Minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar and the Judiciary Chief, Mohammad Hossein Beheshti who were killed in bomb attacks by MKO members in 1981.

The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it was protected by Saddam Hussein and where it helped the Iraqi dictator suppress Shiite and Kurd uprisings in the country.

The terrorist group joined Saddam’s army during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) and helped Saddam and killed thousands of Iranian civilians and soldiers during the US-backed Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

Since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the group, which now adheres to a pro-free-market philosophy, has been strongly backed by neo-conservatives in the United States, who also argue for the MKO to be taken off the US terror list.

Iraqi Authorities' stance on the MEK

Ambassador: MKO must leave Iraq

Iraqi Ambassador to Iran Mohammad Majid Al Sheikh has said the members of the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization must leave Iraq.

The members of the MKO are not allowed to carry out any activity outside of their camp, known as Camp Ashraf, and that they are not allowed to conduct any operation against Iran either, Al Sheikh told IRNA in an interview published on Tuesday.

When the new government took power in Baghdad, it was decided that the MKO members cannot stay in Iraq any longer, he stated.

Pointing to the time when the group set up the camp during Saddam’s rule, he said the terrorists took the lands of local farmers by force and this is the reason why clashes have recently broken out between the owners of these lands and the MKO members.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the two countries should make efforts to promote their relations, adding Tehran and Baghdad have a great potential to utilize to expand their cooperation in all areas.

The diplomat went on to say that Iran’s export to Iraq was worth $6 billion in 2006, expressing hope this figure will reach $7 billion in 2011.

On demarcation of the joint border, he said the join committee between the two countries is working on demarcating the borders and that they regularly hold meetings in this regard.

The two countries are currently working to repair the damaged bars along the borders due to the past war and the natural incidents, he noted.

Judiciary Chief Urges Trial of MKO Ringleaders

Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani hailed the Iraqi Army for its tough reaction to the armed assault and terrorist activities of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization, and underscored that MKO ringleaders should stand trial and be punished for massacring thousands of the Iranian people.

"We thank the Iraqi government and Army for their eventual – although delayed – decision to expel the Monafeqin (hypocrites, as MKO members are called in Iran) from Iraq, and this was Iran’s minimum demand," Amoli Larijani said on Wednesday, addressing a number of Judiciary officials.

"We expect that the MKO ringleaders stand trial for shedding the blood of our innocent youths and martyring our highly esteemed people," he stressed.
Amoli Larijani also underlined that the necessary measures should be taken in a bid to prepare the ground for the safe return of those MKO members who have been deceived by their terrorist ringleaders and have not committed any crime against the Iranian nation.

Local media reported on Wednesday that tens of the members of the MKO have escaped from the group’s main training camp, the Camp of New Iraq, in the Northern Iraqi Diyala province.

The Arabic-language Nahrainnet website said Iraq’s defense ministry has confirmed that scores of defectors have escaped the camp, stressing that the move by the MKO’s members also proves the Iranian officials’ righteous stance who had said earlier that a large number of MKO members wanted to exit the camp and return to Iran but they were incarcerated in the camp by the MKO ringleaders.

A May 2005 Human Rights Watch report accused the MKO of running prison camps in Iraq and committing human rights violations.
According to the Human Rights Watch report, the outlawed group puts defectors under torture and jail terms.
Numerous articles and letters posted on the Internet by family members of MKO recruits confirm reports of the horrific abuse that the group inflicts on its own members and the alluring recruitment methods it uses.

The most shocking of such stories includes accounts given by former British MKO member Ann Singleton and Mustafa Mohammadi — the father of an Iranian-Canadian girl who was drawn into the group during an MKO recruitment campaign in Canada.
Mohammadi recounts his desperate efforts to contact his daughter, who disappeared several years ago – a result of what the MKO called a ‘two-month tour’ of Camp Ashraf for teenagers.

He also explains how the group forces the families of its recruits to take part in pro-MKO demonstrations in Western countries by threatening to kill their loved ones.
Lacking a foothold in Iran, the terrorist group recruits ill-informed teens from Iranian immigrant communities in Western states and blocks their departure afterwards.
The MKO, whose main stronghold is in Iraq, is blacklisted by much of the international community, including the United States.

Iraq had announced earlier this month that members of the terrorist group must leave by the end of 2011.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group

ADVT condemned the assassination of Iranian laborers by MKO

In this statement we read: first May is called the Laborers’ day in Iran. Laborers are considered as one of the studious work forces of the society. The great majority of laborers’ population and their demands have incited terrorists for conducting attacks against them frequently. In this Association for Defending Victims of Terrorismregard the terrorist cult of Rajavi has caused too much loss on this class of society. The great majority of victims of MKO terrorist attacks are laborers.

Based on this statement it has been asserted that the issue of laborers and the importance of supporting their rights have been mentioned in various international documents like the International Labor Organization Protocol, Articles 6,7 and 8 of the UN Cultural, Economic and Social Convention and the Articles 23 and 24 of the Universal Human Rights Declaration. However, in the list of the Mojahedin-e Khalq organization, there are the names of more than 4000 laborers, most of whom had not even heard the name of this organization. According to the claim of the organization leaders, these laborers deserved death just for supporting the regime. Based on the domestic and international laws of most of the countries, no one should be reprimanded for having a special approach or viewpoint. Far beyond reprimanding, MKO assassinates these people. The MKO leaders turn laborers into a political plaything for their own ends without considering their human dignity; in the case of any opposition, the laborers would be murdered. The reason behind the assassination of most of the laborers was that their work was leading to economic growth and consequently the increase of public trust in government.

The violation of the human rights of the laborers is not limited to the assassinations; The MKO illegally transfers many workers who are seeking for a job in foreign countries, to Iraq and MKO’s military base there. After confiscating their identity documents, these laborers receive compulsory military and terrorist trainings and also are exposed to forced labor. On one hand, based on the ‘freedom of the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favorable conditions of work’, mentioned in Article 23 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights this issue is the violation of human rights. On the other hand, it is quit contrary to the laws related to the way of treating laborers.

Mojahedin-e Khalq organization which speaks out the rights of laborers, considers long working hours and lack of sleeping, as a way for making the members exhausted and preventing them from thinking. This is another evidence of the violation of primary rights of human beings. This issue has been completely explained in the Human Rights Watch report of May 2005 and American RAND Corporation report of August 2009. Studying these impartial reports can give a better understanding of these stone-age criminals of the third millennium.

With these descriptions about the approach of the Rajavi cult leaders and the inhuman situation governing the Ashraf Camp and the way they treat their members (like some slaves), we have to talk about the two types of the laborer victims of this terrorist cult; the first category is composed of the laborers who have been directly targeted by the MKO and the second one are the workers who have been deceived by MKO. The members of the second category seek for their rights although they can find nothing but the violation of their basic rights in these terrorist groups.

ADVT also announces that instrumental application of these laborers just like the other professions of the society including students, teachers, and sellers are common in this terrorist group.

This year, MKO arranged various propaganda plays in order to distract the society and create an atmosphere of opposition and objection among the laborer class of the society. However, all of these futile efforts foiled and no one paid any attention to such claims. Therefore, Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism condemning the assassination of laborers calls on international organizations to make their best efforts for the trial of Rajavi leaders who keep the MKO members as captives and abuses the laborers.

Iranian FM confirmed the remarks on pardoning Camp Ashraf residents

Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the recent developments in regional countries are in line with the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.
ran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi
“The arrogant powers had always supported and dominated dictatorships, and now that the people have risen and future governments will have democratic roots; from now on dominating regional countries will be impossible,” Salehi said on Monday.

In response to a question about whether Turkey has played a more effective role in regional developments compared to Iran, Salehi said each country acts within the framework of its national interests and policies.

Salehi also confirmed the remarks of Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaeifar about Tehran pardoning most of the residents of Camp Ashraf, Fars News Agency reported.

On Sunday, Danaeifar said all of the residents of Camp Ashraf could return to Iran except for less than 100 individuals who have criminal records.

The members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) fled to Iraq in 1986, where they enjoyed the support of Saddam Hussein, and set up Camp Ashraf in Diyala Province near the Iranian border.

The MKO has carried out numerous acts of terror and violence against Iranian civilians and government officials.

The group is also known to have cooperated with Saddam in suppressing the 1991 uprisings in southern Iraq and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds.

Earlier in April, Iraq’s government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said that the cabinet is determined to shut down Camp Ashraf and disband the terrorist group.

UN

Open letter to Mr. Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of the UN

I am a witness to the terrifying crimes of Mojahedin Khalq

I, Mehdi Khoshal , am the former member of PMOI( People’s Mujahidin Organization of Iran).
During ten years of my close participation with PMOI,I had been witnessing the breach of human rights as well as terrifying crimes which are unbelievable for some people. I am a witness to the terrifying crimes of Mojahedin Khalq

After passing ten years of my life in close cooperating with PMOI which its primary objectives were completely different than its present goals , I had a chance to separate from them (PMOI) in 1991,by passing through the prison , exile and leaving two members of my family behind as hostage in that cult. After leaving Iraq, I went to Turkey and finally I reached to Germany where I began my enlightening political activities. I would like to inform you the following facts which substantiate their inhumane and apolitical behaviors and activities.

As you are well informed, at the beginning of April 2011, there was a bloody conflict and clashes between the stranded members of PMOI and the Iraqi soldiers in Camp Ashraf. Many people were killed and hundreds of them were severely wounded. This is not the first time or the last which pmoi sending its brainwashed members to be killed without gaining any military achievement. These lives were wasted towards their political objectives and stabilizing their political situation. Everybody knows that pmoi is an unwanted guest in Iraq, who were cooperators of the former dictator of Iraq. They do not want to leave Iraq without bloodshed and carnage and they do not want to pay the price peacefully just because they had a bloody past in Iraq against Iraqi and Iranian people and their own members. They want to beget more conflict and more bloodshed by begetting more clashes with Iraqi soldiers to justify their resettlement, and begetting more violence and conflict is their only effective solution.

I would like to draw your attention to the following facts of their activities which I witnessed them while I was in pmoi.

1. Overt and close military , political , financial and espionage cooperation with the former dictator of Iraq and its government which was in war with Iran for many years . The former Iraqi government was utilizing the pmoi as one of their active military organs. The former Iraqi government utilized them militarily to suppress the uprising of the Kurds and Shiites in Iraq.

2. Separating the children from their parents and forcible and collective divorce in their organization in pretext of accelerating their struggle against Iranian government, but everybody knows what was behind all those excuses and inhumane and cultic activities. The leader of this cult with his egoism suppressed women and men inside the organization and he was abusing the divorced women and was taking advantage of all those so called internal ideological revolution towards his personal desires and needs.

3. Making prisons and omitting physically as well as exiling of the dissidents and begetting different kinds of physical and psychological tortures , utilizing brainwashing and religious indoctrinations as well as ideological insults towards the stranded members were all tools which he could have all his cult’s members under his surveillance and supervision. In this regard he did not allow his members to have any contact with their family and loved ones for decades and he believes that all his members‘ families are mercenaries of Iranian government and he counts them as his enemies. He threatened them and the separated members that if someday he comes to power , he will revenge and retaliate from his dissidents and their families.

4. During recent years , hundreds families of those stranded members of pmoi ,who are in Camp Ashraf ,have been waiting to see their loved ones and have a conversation with them after decades , but unfortunately the leaders of pmoi do not allow them to see their loved ones and instead they insult those families who are mostly elderly parents and they call them the mercenaries and agents of Iranian intelligence service.
5. According to the facts mentioned above, I urge you to instruct your honorable representative in Iraq to investigate the inhumane activities which mentioned above specially investigating the truth of the bloody conflict which happened recently inside Camp Ashraf as well as forcing the leaders of pmoi to allow their members to meet their families and loved ones who are waiting and picketing behind the gates of Ashraf .

Your Excellency , Mr. Ban Ki Moon
There is a possibility that you have been informed and you have heard about the PMOI inhumane activities and the breach of human rights in their cultic relations. All their internal relations has been controlled and supervised by cultic methods. As you know the cults for reaching to their political objectives and their desires which are totally against the people’s interest and against the society, are ready to do whatever they can implement to reach to their inhumane objectives even if it is against their own members’ interests and the people .
The leaders who live secretly without having any communication with people and they evade from any response about the root and the nature of their activities to their members and people, because they put themselves on the God position and they beget more victims for reaching to their goals and their desires and inhumane objectives. The victims who are everywhere specially in Iraq and Iran.

Your Excellency, Mr. Ban KI Moon
Today we are witnessing the intellectual and rational uprising of the Middle East people for their rights and freedom. The people who have been living centuries under tyranny and suppression and repression and exploitation , now they want to free themselves and their children from all those tyrannies and suppressions and exploitations and they want to have their freedom back with respect to the international laws and human rights. While the people of Middle East and Arab nations are uprising for their freedom and democracy in their lands, you should not allow a terrorist organization which is ruled by cultic regulations conceal itself behind all those popular uprisings in other countries in the Middle East. You should not allow this terrorist cult ,which utilizes the slogans such as freedom and democracy to cover its real entity , to take advantage of those popular uprisings. In their internal cultic relations the story is completely different than their slogans. This cultic organization with its bloody past ,full of violence and with its unlawful presence on Iraqi soil has concealed itself behind the popular uprisings in other countries . You should not allow such a terrorist cultic organization with such a terrifying past utilizes those popular slogans ,freedom and democracy, to open its way towards political power.

Respectfully;
Mehdi Khoshal

Iran grants amnesty to members of Mojahedin Khalq

Iran will grant amnesty to the residents of the Ashraf Camp which belongs to the opposition group MKO (Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization) in Iraq, ISNA reported on 30 April.

In an interview with ISNA, Iran’s ambassador to Iraq Hasan Dana’ifar said that "except for nearly one hundred individuals, against whole cases have been filed at the judiciary, other residents of the camp can return to our dear Iran or travel anywhere else they prefer."

Dana’ifar also said: "Most of those who are at Asharf camp are veteran [members] and [MKO] has not recruited any new member in the past six years; the most recently joined members have been from Europe and Iran."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Dana’ifar dismissed the idea that the Mojahidin are refugees in Iraq and said: "The Monafeqin [hypocrites, reference to MKO] is a registered organization. Who has granted them asylum? There must be some evidence for such claims and there in none. [Iraq’s former leader] Saddam had just let them into Iraq [presumably without any legal procedure]."

PMOI separatists: The group interferes in Iraq’s issues

Iraqi Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that three leaders from “People Mujahedeen of Iran (PMOI)” have seceded from the group.

They flew Ashraf Camp and handed themselves to Iraqi authorities, the Ministry said.
The separatists accused PMOI commands of interfering in Iraq’s affairs and training Ashraf Camp residents on using arms to attack Iraqi Forces. The group was accused as well of training Iraqis and giving them positions in the government in order to endorse the group’s presence in Iraq.

“Three leaders of People Mujahedeen of Iran managed to escape Ashraf Camp along with tens others. Separatists are namely senior leader Maryam Sanjabi, leader Abdul Latif Shadvari and leader Ibrat Kikha’i”, Defense Ministry spokesman Mohammed Al Askari said in a press conference in Baghdad attended by Alsumarianews.
“There are confirmed reports and data from the new Iraq camp formerly known as Ashraf Camp about many residents trying to escape the camp and leave Iraq. Tens of them managed to flee the camp and handed themselves to the Iraqi government seeking help”, Al Askari said.

“Iraq’s government is dealing humanitarianly with these people and is trying to help them at their ease by coordinating with the international organizations and friend countries they wish to resort to. The government seeks to help camp residents who wish to leave the country upon their preferences”, he stressed.

Separatist Ibrat Kikha’i argued during the press conference that the group People Mujahedeen of Iran “does not care about the losses of life inside the group due to the latest incidents given that casualties include its regular members not its general command. The high commands of PMOI do not acknowledge international laws and do not respect the laws of their host country”, he continued.

Kikha’i revealed that head of PMOI group Massoud Rajavi always calls for war and says: “If there is no war, I will make the war”.
The group always looks to interfere in Iraq’s affairs, separatist Ibrat Kikha’i said.

“During the first years of war, Rajavi was drawing in Iraqis to train them and give them positions inside the government. His aim was to stay in Iraq by using these people as a support for PMOI group”, Kikha’i said.

“Rajavi formed a committee inside the camp and established work departments for social communication with Iraqis. He drew in a number of Iraqi citizens and gave them personal salaries and handouts to turn against the government”, he added.

Separatist Abdul Latif Shadvari explained that he joined the PMOI group when he was 15 years old. He held important positions since 25 years and decided to secede from the group due to the pressures he has been subject to all these years. “PMOI members did not have the chance to express themselves freely during the last eight years”, Shadvari said.
“The group prepares us inside the camp for war even against the Iraqi Government. Members are trained on how to clash with Iraqi Forces and take away their arms. The group interferes in Iraq’s affairs. It interfered even in protests and spurred violence and sabotage”, he added.

“The group leaders believe in bloodsheds, suicide bombings and war which they regard as the main grounds of the group. Armed operations are one of the most important ideologies to the group”, separatist Latif Shadvari concluded.

Separatist leader Maryam Sinjari stated during the press conference that she is “a member of the command office in the group People Mujahedeen of Iran and a member of the Iranian opposition”. She seceded from the group after “a 20 year old enduring experience inside the group”, she said stressing that “head of the group Massoud Rajavi rejects others’ opinions and refuses any other command. He has been so for 30 years and is getting more oppressive day by day”.

“The group members do not enjoy any human rights since more than 25 years. The group’s internal structure does not allow anyone to express his view, call his family or use the phone or the internet”, she added.

“It is forbidden to have a family and children. Members of the group are not allowed to get engaged and married. The group counts for 3400 members and it is a few number facing 80 million people in Iran”, Sinjar continued.

“Anyone who secedes from the group is sentenced to death. This is what Rajavi always says. Two leaders of the high command were killed for this reason during the last years. Others are imprisoned inside the camp. Many members would like to get out of the camp but they don’t in fear for their life”, she concluded.

The presence of People Mujahedeen of Iran in Iraq has taken a new perspective lately. While the issue has been coming to light irregularly since the fall of the former regime, the settlement of this crisis seems to be imminent mainly after Iraq’s government issued a decision to end the presence of PMOI in Iraq by the end of 2011 considering the group as a terrorist group implicated in the killing of Iraqis.

The decision was backed by a Defense Ministry order to form an investigation committee into riots at Ashraf Camp that erupted on April 8. Iraq’s Defense Ministry suspects that PMOI group has used riot incidents to kill some of its members who wanted to leave the camp.

People Mujahedeen of Iran on the other hand accused Iraqi security forces of killing 30 of its members and wounding at least 300 others in clashes that erupted at Ashraf Camp.

The MEK Expulsion from Iraq

MKO Begs Iraqi Gov’t Not to Expel Members

The ringleaders of the anti-Iran terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization have pleaded the Iraqi government to avoid closing down the terrorist group’s main training base in Northern Iraq and extend the MKO’s presence in the country, a human rights group revealed on Sunday.
MKO Begs Iraqi Gov't Not to Expel Members from Camp Ashraf
The Habilian association, a human rights group formed of the family members and relatives of the Iranian victims of terrorism, announced on Sunday that the MKO ringleaders who had earlier claimed ownership of Camp Ashraf and violated Iraq’s territorial integrity have now resorted to mediators to ask the Iraqi government to rent the Camp to them.

According to the human rights group, the Iraqi government has rejected the demand, stressing that it would never enter negotiations with foreigners over Camp Ashraf, which it described as an occupied part of Iraq.

In a bold and surprising action, Massoud Rajavi, the main ringleader of the terrorist group, had announced earlier that he would evacuate the MKO members from Camp Ashraf only if he received $200mln from the Baghdad government.

The Baghdad government has assured Iranian officials and people that it is determined to expel the MKO from Iraq by the end of 2011.

"Expulsion of the MKO from Iraq’s soil and termination of its presence which has lasted for several years is a definite decision," Iraqi Government Spokesman Ali Al-Dabbaq told FNA in April, adding, "The MKO will be expelled from Iraq by the end of the current year."

"The only option for the members of the MKO is leaving Iraq and they have no other choice," he reiterated.

Reminding to the black record of the terrorist group and its crimes against the Iraqi people, Dabbaq said, "Collaboration with the former Iraqi dictator and massacre of thousands of our people is just part of their crimes".

Baghdad had earlier this month announced that members of the terrorist group must leave Iraq’s soil by the end of 2011.
Dabbaq announced in early April that the cabinet is determined to shut down Camp Ashraf located North of the capital, Baghdad, and disband the terrorist group.
"The council of ministers has committed to implement an earlier decision about disbanding the terrorist group by the end of this year at the latest, and the necessity of getting it out of Iraq," the official noted.

Most MKO members can return to Iran

Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan DanaifarIran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaeifar says Tehran has pardoned most of the residents of Camp Ashraf except those with criminal records.
“Currently 3,400 people reside in Camp Ashraf, 1,000 of them have already returned to Iran and 750 have requested to leave the camp through the [International] Red Cross,” Danaeifar said on Sunday.

Danaeifar added that Tehran has pardoned all the residents of the Camp Ashraf except for less than 100 individuals who have criminal records, and ”the rest can return to the country or travel to wherever they want,” ISNA reported.

The members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) fled to Iraq in 1986, where they enjoyed the support of Saddam Hussein, and set up Camp Ashraf in Diyala Province near the Iranian border.

The group is known to have cooperated with Saddam in suppressing the 1991 uprisings in southern Iraq and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds.

Commenting on the harsh situation of life in the Camp Ashraf, Danaeifar said the residents were under immense pressure, and “they must confess to their sins, and even their sinful thoughts, every day.”

According to the reports coming out of Camp Ashraf and the revelations of former MKO members, telephones, cell-phones, the Internet and other mass media, and even listening to the radio or marriage is forbidden in the camp.

Danaeifar added that even though the MKO guard the camp to prevent the residents from escaping, and insist to remain in the Camp Aashraf, “Iraq’s government is against their presence in the country.”

Earlier in April, Iraq’s government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said that the cabinet is determined to shut down Camp Ashraf and disband the terrorist group.

The MKO has also carried out numerous acts of terror and violence against Iranian civilians and government officials.

Iran has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to expel the group, but the US has been blocking the expulsion by pressuring the Iraqi government.
