Iran not pleased with Polish students Mujahedin party

Iran has criticised Polish students who went to Paris last weekend to party with the Iranian People’s Mujahedin.

Saturday’s ‘party’ thrown  by the People’s Mujahedin, deemed by the USA, Canada, EU ant the Iranian government as a terrorist organisation, was attended by several thousand young Poles. They travelled to France after being offered the journey at a cost of under ten euros conditional upon taking part in an accompanying demonstration.

But Iranian Ambassador to Poland Hadi Farajvand said Thursday that the participation in the demonstration is likely to have a negative impact on the Polish-Iranian relations.

“It is very important for academia, and especially students, to cut themselves off such terrorist organisations. It is regrettable that this organisation deluded the Polish [students],” said the Ambassador.

The People’s Mujahedin of Iran is a secular, socialist organisation which aims to overthrow the Islamist Iranian government. It was accused of being behind the murder of the president and PM of Iran 1981. The organisation sided with Saddam Hussein during the Iraq-Iran war and was accused of assisting the Iraqi republican guard in the suppression of Kurds and the Shi’a Muslims in the 1980s.

The US policy rejects contacts with Mojahedin Khalq

On Saturday, they gathered to call on the European Union and the United States to remove what they called unjust terrorist label from MKO immediately. Yes, they want it, or rather order, to be soon and immediately. It is typical of Mojahedin-e Khalq that they become bolder and want more if being granted, not gaining as it might be their right, something that changes nothing in general.

They have also some supporters in the Congress who have been calling for the US to back terror groups in Iran. There are reports that indicate that this program has already been in place for years. It was nearly two months ago that Ret. Gen. Thomas McInerney in a Fox News appearance publicly called for the US government to support groups like MKO (Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization), which is listed by the State Department as a terrorist organization, and carry out deadly bombings in Iran. He already knew about the true nature and terrorist potentialities of MKO as know the EU member governments, including the UK.

But, the UK government still considers MKO a terrorist group, in spite of being defeated in a long court battle, as does the US. In the State Department’s issued  Daily Press Briefing  on June 30, Tom Casey, Deputy Spokesman, reiterated that the US government’s policy is not to engage in any contacts with terrorist groups like MKO:

QUESTION: Just to follow up on the same story. (Inaudible) also outlines that the U.S. had – may encourage or had some contacts with some of the dissident groups, including Mujahedin-e Khalq and the PJAK. Can you formulate a comment on this?

MR. CASEY: Including, sorry, which groups?

QUESTION: The PJAK, which is an extension of the PKK and the Mujahedin-e Khalq.

MR. CASEY: Yeah. Well, you know, our policy is not to engage or have discussions or contacts with terrorist groups. The MEK is a terrorist group, and certainly we don’t – aren’t engaged in any kinds of conversations or discussions with them.

John Jenkins:”We too hate the MKO Terrorist group”

UK gov’t should revise antagonist stands to expand ties with Tehran – Diplomat anaging Director of IRI Foreign Ministry’s Western Europe Affairs Office emphasized here Wednesday any kind of expansion of ties with London depends on UK government’s revising of its antagonist stands regarding Iran. According to Foreign Ministry Press Department, Ali Dowlatyar made the comment in a meeting with the Head of the Middle East and North Africa Bureau of the British Foreign Office, John Jenkins.  Dowlatyar added,”Intensifying of the MKO’s recent antagonist moves, pursuing measures aimed at imposing more limitations against our country, efforts aimed at closing the branches of Bank Melli Iran (BMI) throughout Europe, Mr. Tajik’s issue, immediate extradition of Mr. Badavinejad, and other issues of such nature cannot be ignored by Tehran.”  He denounced a recent verdict issued by a British court, resorting the reasoning that the MKO terrorist grouplet has conducted no antagonist move during the course of the past few years, as a political verdict, arguing,”The great Iranian nation considers as unacceptable the double standards observed by Britain in its campaign against terrorism, regrading the recent verdict as a strongly antagonist act.”  Touching on Tajik’s issue, too, the Foreign Ministry’s Managing Director of West Europe Affairs said,”It was obvious from the beginning that Mr. Tajik’s case is a conspiracy led by the US intelligence agents, and that the matter was politically motivated.”Dowlatyar added,”There are numerous questions related to Mr.  Tajik’s case that have still remained unanswered and keeping in mind his physical conditions, and particularly his heart’s status, in addition to the nuisances and problems with which him and his family have been entangled during the past couple of months, this inhumane trend should end as soon as possible.”  Jenkins, too, said,”As the British Foreign Secretary and other high ranking UK officials have stated, the British government considers the moves made by the terrorist group (MKO), as well as the moves made by the National Resistance Council, as shameful.”The Managing Director of the British Foreign Office’s Middle East and North African Affairs Bureau emphasized,”We, too, hate the MKO terrorist group, and despite the existence of lots of differences of opinion, that is something natural in relations among countries, we favor improvement and expansion of ties with Tehran.” Tehran, July 03, 2008

Accomplices in MKO crimes

Iran: States involved in Mojahedin Khalq (Rajavi cult, MKO, MEK,…) removal from terrorists’ list are accomplices in its crimes

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here Friday that countries involved in Acomplice in MKO crimesremoving the terrorist Mujahideen Khalq Organization (MKO) from the terrorists’ list are accomplices in the terrorist crimes committed by the grouplet.

“Any country moving officially in line with removal of the MKO from the terrorists’ list will from the view point of Iran and Iranians be an accomplice in the terrorist acts taken by the grouplet,”Mottaki told IRNA prior to leaving New York.

He said,”Surely, such a move is condemned and we reserve the right to follow necessary procedures and lodge complaint against the country supporting terrorism.”

He went on to say,”The cowardly move of clearing the MKO’s name from the terrorists’ list started from Britain and definitely such a cowardly effort will have no impact on our people’s attitude and the nature and position of the terrorist group.”

He noted that the MKO is the most notorious groups in the eyes of Iranian people due to its crimes during the Sacred Defense era (1980-88) and assassination of personalities and officials as well as thousands of innocent citizens.

“The MKO will continue to be regarded as a terrorist group by survivors of the victims of its terrorist measures and the Iranian nation.”

He said terrorism, in any form, is condemned and equal and indiscriminate approach should be shown against it.

“Terrorism can not be classified into good and bad today. Terrorism is terrorism and is so condemned. Equal and indiscriminate approach should be shown against all of them (all forms of terrorism),”said Mottaki.

“While trying to put in the terrorist groups’ list a media or a liberation group which fights for freedom of its land, these (the westerners) want to bring out from the list the groups which have a long record of terrorist acts,”he said.

He concluded,”Today, the world public opinion does not at all accept such a contradictory and dubious approach being based on the double-speak and political standards and we condemn such an act.”1420

Iraqi Authorities' stance on the MEK

MKO provokes violence in Iraq

Hakim: Presence of Mojahedin Khalq (Rajavi cult) terrorists in Iraq lacks anyVoice of Iraq legal or international cover

The Unified Iraqi Coalition says the terrorist group Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) is provoking sectarian violence in the country.

"MKO seeks to fuel the sectarian ordeal, intervenes in the Iraqi issue, and takes aggressive position toward the parliament and the elected national government", Unified Iraqi Coalition’s chief Abdel Aziz al-Hakim was quoted by Voices of Iraq News Agency as saying.

At the fifth anniversary ceremony of the assassination of his brother, Seyyed Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, the UCI chief said the "MKO presence in Iraq lacks any legal or international cover".

The MKO, blacklisted by many countries including EU member states as a terrorist organization, has been involved in the killing of many Iraqis under Saddam Hussein’s regime.

In a recent statement, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Cabinet said that the terrorist group interferes in the country’s internal affairs and supports anti-government activities.

The government banned any deal with the members of the MKO.

Hakim said "Iraq’s constitution forbids using Iraq as a base of aggression, and the governmental demands are fair and constitutional to gain sovereignty and independency".

Iraqi parliamentarians and other officials have also called for the expulsion of MKO members from the country.

Iraqi Authorities' stance on the MEK

Mojahedin Khalq leaders face arrest in Iraq

An Iraqi government spokesman says arrest warrants have been issued for some leaders of an anti-Iran terrorist group based in Iraq.

MKO leaders face arrest in IraqAli al-Dabbagh held a press briefing in Baghdad on Thursday and said the order had been issued because leaders of the Mojahedin Khlaq Organization (MKO) have interfered in the domestic affairs of Iraq and threatened some Iraqi officials by phone.

The Iraqi cabinet and main political parties demand the expulsion of members of the terrorist group from the country.

Iraqi officials say the group is playing a significant role in promoting violence and insecurity in the war-torn country.

Dabbagh added that Iraqi security forces have provided proof of their criminal activities.

The MKO is blacklisted by many countries including EU member states as a terrorist organization.

Additionally, the group has claimed responsibility for several terror attacks inside Iran. They were also involved in the massacre of Iraqis under Saddam Hussein’s regime.

UK deproscription offers lifeline to cult victims

The Consequence of the Terrorist Tag Removed

Regardless of MKO’s hysteric propaganda reactions following the UK Court of Appeal’s ruling to remove its terrorist tag, the issue can be viewed from a different angle. Some opponents may condemn the move by the UK while advocates appraise it praiseworthy but there is a third view as well. It has to be pointed out that nothing changes MKO’s natural inclination towards terrorism; still it is of significance that what might be the consequences of the move by the UK and its impacts on the structure of the organization and the captivated members in Camp Ashraf.

Against all baseless claims made by the organization, there exist obstacles that deter the process of transferring the detached members of Camp Ashraf to other countries or deprive them of benefiting asylum-seeking rights. Many countries, including the UK, disallow the entry of these members on the grounds of terrorism and especially because of the terrorist tag the organization carries. Removal of the group from the UK terrorist list at least implies that these members will face no more obstacles in future to cross the borders of this country. Furthermore, the British advocates of the organization claim to be the most enthusiastic supporters of it for humanitarian causes; the words are so promising for the members now facing an uncertain destiny.

In other words, the terrorist tag the group considers to have discouraged the struggle is now benefiting dissatisfied members if removed since all limitations they would face when seeking asylum are eliminated. The removal of the terror tag is one of those supposed solutions that, as once said, can decide the destiny of the Camp Ashraf residents and grant them the opportunity of leaving the organization on free-will and start a new life in whatever country they desire. They will be no wanderers in Iraqi soil if they leave Camp Ashraf because the main problem following the release from the bonds of the high walls is falling into the pit of eternal wandering which is even worse than their earlier condition.

In the past MKO has done its best to deprive the dissident members taking advantage of the given opportunities. In many cases the organization has utilized legal levers to impede the process of these members’ asylum-seeking in Western countries and in England in particular. Incredible as it may seem, once MKO claimed that Iranian refugees in Western countries held any recognition of legitimacy because of MKO and that, no country would grant them asylum if it was not for the group. And some came to surrender to MKO and submitted to be at its service far from home since they thought they had no other choice if they preferred living in exile to expulsion.

After the relocation of its HQ from France to Iraq, MKO kept on with the tactic but in more aggressive and harsh manner. Now, no dissident was allowed to leave the organization unless he dared to experience the horrible Abu-Ghuraib prison for a few years; hardly anybody could leave the notorious prison alive or preserving a healthy body to live on. Anybody who announced separation from the organization had to face the consequences of his decision personally, that is to say, he had to face allegations of illegal entry into Iraqi territories because he was no more under the protection of the organization that was granted a legal stay in Iraq. However, the evidences indicate that MKO has the potentiality of erecting a variety of obstacles, being familiar with the gaps in laws and security measures, in the way of its dissident members to be granted a place of safety in western countries.

Being removed from the terror list of England, and other lists as well, leads the organization, concerning the condition of dissident members, to a self-destruction abyss. MKO insists not to let any dissident and detached member enter the UK and will do anything to stop any attempt. Its future reaction depends on the support it will receive from its parliamentarian advocates following its removal from the list and the degree of granted freedom activities. It has to be noted that the ruling will impose heavy costs on the UK government as well. But the truth is that, in spite of all these costs, not MKO but the dissidents are the real winners who will benefit the most.

Mujahedin Khalq as an Opposition Group

Military action ‘would destabilise Iraq’

American tools -Mojahedin Khalq or Rajavi cult- were on the payroll of Saddam Hussein

Iraq will be plunged into a new war if Israel or the US launches an attack on The IndependentIran, Iraqi leaders have warned. Iranian retaliation would take place in Iraq, said Dr Mahmoud Othman, the influential Iraqi MP.

The Iraqi government’s main allies are the US and Iran, whose governments openly detest each other. The Iraqi government may be militarily dependent on the 140,000 US troops in the country, but its Shia and Kurdish leaders have long been allied to Iran. Iraqi leaders have to continually perform a balancing act in which they seek to avoid alienating either country.

The balancing act has become more difficult for Iraq since George Bush successfully requested $400m (£200m) from Congress last year to fund covert operations aimed at destabilising the Iranian leadership. Some of these operations are likely to be launched from Iraqi territory with the help of Iranian militants opposed to Tehran. The most effective of these opponent groups is the Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), which enraged the Iraqi government by staging a conference last month at Camp Ashraf, north-east of Baghdad. It demanded the closure of the Iranian embassy and the expulsion of all Iranian agents in Iraq. "It was a huge meeting" said Dr Othman. "All the tribes and political leaders who are against Iran, but are also against the Iraqi government, were there." He said the anti-Iranian meeting could not have taken place without US permission.

The Americans disarmed the 3,700 MEK militants, who had long been allied to Saddam Hussein, at Camp Ashraf in 2003, but they remain well-organised and well-financed. The extent of their support within Iran remains unknown, but they are extremely effective as an intelligence and propaganda organisation.

Though the MEK is on the State Department’s list of terrorist groups, the Pentagon and other US institutions have been periodically friendly to it. The US task force charged by Mr Bush with destabilising the Iranian government is likely to co-operate with it.

In reaction to the conference, the Iraqi government, the US and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have started secret talks on the future of the MEK with the Iraqi government pressing for their expulsion from Iraq. Dr Othman, who speaks to the MEK frequently by phone, said: "I pressed them to get out of Iraq voluntarily because they are a card in the hands of the Americans."

An embarrassing aspect of the American pin-prick war against Iran is that many of its instruments were previously on the payroll of Saddam Hussein. The MEK even played a role in 1991 in helping to crush the uprising against the Baathist regime at the end of the Gulf war. The dissidents from Arab districts in southern Iran around Ahwaz were funded by Saddam Hussein’s intelligence organisations, which orchestrated the seizure of the Iranian embassy in London in 1980 which was supposedly carried out by Arab nationalists from Iran.

The one community in Iran most likely to oppose the Tehran government is the Iranian Kurds. There have been an increasing number of attacks by PJAK, the Iranian wing of the Turkish PKK, which claims to be a separate party. Based in the Kandil mountains in Iraqi Kurdistan, PJAK has carried out frequent raids into Iran and has reportedly been able to win local support. But it would be extremely dangerous for the US to be seen as a supporter of PJAK as this would offend the Turks who have a military co-operation agreement with Iran against terrorism.

Jordan rejects any connection with MKO gathering

As MKO terrorists hired Polish students, Afghani refugees and actors to cheer

Jordan rejects any connection with Mojahedin Khalq gathering  Reported by: BBC Monitoring Middle East Text of report by Jordanian newspaper Al-Arab al-Yawm on 30 June [Report by Walid Husni: "Twelve MPs Are Among 33 Jordanians Attending Mojahedin-e Khalq’s Conference in France"]

Engineer Abd-al-Hadi al-Majali, speaker of the House of Representatives, has denied that the House has anything to do with the participation of 12 MPs in the conference of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization in France. The conference is expected to conclude its meetings today, Monday, 30 June.

In press statements yesterday, Al-Majali said: The House has nothing to do with the participation of the MPs in that conference. None of the MPs has consulted with the House, or its standing bureau, or has even spoken with me about that participation.

Al-Majali said that the participation of the MPs was in response to personal invitations and that each MP who attended the conference only represents himself, and does not represent the House of Representatives. He added: "I have no knowledge of that participation and I do not know the names of the attending MPs, who only represent themselves, and do not represent the Jordanian House of Representatives."

Twelve MPs were among 33 Jordanian figures who left Amman for the French capital, Paris, last Thursday to participate in a conference held by the Iranian opposition organization Mojahedin-e Khalq, led by Maryam Rajavi, who delivered a speech at the opening of the conference the day before yesterday. In her speech, Rajavi called for removing the organization’s name from the list of terrorist organizations, like the decision made by Britain last week, while the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations still includes Mojahedin-e Khalq among global terrorist organizations.

It is said that the participants in the conference include MPs Mamduh al-Abbadi, Nariman al-Rusan, Muhammad Abu-Hudayb, Fakhri Iskandar, Abdallah al-Gharayibah, Muflih al-Ruhaymi, Ahmad Dandan al-Utum, and Ibrahim al-Umush. The conference will conclude its meetings in a north Paris district today. The Jordanian delegation, which includes political, media, and party figures, will return to Amman this evening.
