Comment on Claims

Referring to Claire Miskin’s statement released on December 30, 2006 by NCRI website entitled “Behind the atrocities in Iraq stands the Iranian regime” Paul Sheldon Foote delivered the following comment.

Contrary to the representations posted by the Iranian Communist MEK’s NCRI Web site, please note:

1. The PMOI (MEK, Rajavi Cult, or Pol Pot of Iran) supports totalitarian rule in Iran, not a secular and pluralistic democracy. According to the MEK: Rajavi is Iran. Iran is Rajavi.

2. In 1991, the MEK committed atrocities against large numbers of Kurds in Iraq.

3. Army of intellectuals? Whether illiterate or possessing college degrees, MEK members engage in brainwashing cult practices. Read the books mentioned at: http://www.iran-interlink.org

4. Many MEK members have fled from Camp Ashraf, Iraq to return to Iran or to live at Camp Freedom, Iraq.

5. In April 2003, American and coalition forces did attack Camp Ashraf, Iraq. In President Bush’s background paper for his September 2002 remarks at the United Nations, President Bush had listed the MEK as one of three Saddam Hussein-supported terrorist groups in Iraq. President Bush’s State Department classifies the MEK as a communist terrorist organization guilty of murdering American military officers and Rockwell International employees.

6. Some Iraqi political leaders have demanded that the MEK leave Iraq by December 31, 2006.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group

Scottish Daily”Scotsman”quoted an MKO supporter

Scottish Daily "Scotsman" quoted an MKO supporter, Stevenson, saying:

"Regarding the decision of Luxembourg Court, keeping MKO’s name on EU’s terror list will be a big mistake by the European Union.

Legally, keeping them on the list violates Court’s decision and insults judicial system of European Union. Politically, it would be a disaster, since it conveys the message of compromise and weakness to Tehran".

Stevenson’s words expose his purpose, based on a crookedly devised plan by MKO leaders in order to get them out of the list. This list prevents them from performing illegal activities.

They want to use the ruling of First Instance Court in order to press European officials to take them out of the list.

Earlier, MKO claimed that the ruling meant the removal of MKO’s name from terror list. This was only a propagandistic move which lasted only for a few days and after that they tried to provide opportunities for themselves.

At that time "Time" magazine reported of premature celebrations by Maryam Rajavi. The fact is that MKO propaganda is based on mixing their ideals with lies for deceiving western politicians; this means total fraud.

The contradiction is that at the same time the MKO quotes a French lawyer claiming, "Currently, there’s no restriction for the MKO"!

Mr. Stevenson and other MKO supporters should be asked why the MKO is still trying to impose itself on Europeans if there’s no restriction over the group.

Undoubtedly, MKO’s fraudulent leaders are trying to hide their fundamental weaknesses and lack of popularity.

Diminishing Glory

Veiling our ineptitude in the legacy of Cyrus the Great, cowardice abounds, we abandon Iran in her moment of need and justify our action on the basis of the Islamic regime’s despotism. How cynical that under the watchful contribution of Cyrus to the world, the replica on which he inscribed free worship for his subjects, considered to be the world’s first universal declaration of human rights kept at the United Nations, Iran’s enemies had the audacity to degrade her children under the name of universal law; A law upheld by Iran and violated by UN members.

And how sad it is that while claiming to be proud of our history, those who humiliated us were applauded by inspiring leaders[1]. Claiming to be Cyrus’ heirs, those who wish to step into his shoes, commend the decision of the UN; equating the punishment of Iranians to the chastisement or the capitulation of the Islamic regime. How misplaced this Iranian pride and punishment is. The cultural heritage of the Zoroastrians is the belief in their spiritual and cultural superiority. Compromise with the outside world was considered a weakness (Ziemke p.87[i]). In fact, according to Stack[ii], the history of Cyrus the Great is so embedded in most Iranians that we still think of ourselves as a superpower. How can the former Shah’s son, Reza Pahlavi, and the terrorist cult leader, Maryam Rajavi, be ignorant of the psyche of the very people they hope to lead?

History has shown economic sanctions and political reprimands are ineffective in preventing nuclear technology; North Korea and Iraq are two cases in point. Even an Israeli air strike against the Iraqi Osirak nuclear plant in 1981 did not curb their ambitions. Given the determination of countries to reach their goal, one must therefore weigh the consequences of isolation and sanctions.

A serious concern is that although the Chernobyl power plant tragedy reinforced the need for international cooperation, politics continue to dominate the arena of decision making. To piece-meal a nuclear plant is an accident waiting to happen. Those who encourage sanctions and applaud them, are blinded by ambition and do not have the interest of Iranians at heart.

What must be of particular concern to any Iranian with a sense of patriotism is the reality of Iran’s exhaustible fossil fuels. Due to an increase in demand and decrease in supply, Iran will find itself wanting for its energy needs in the next decade [iii]. Had the leaders who praised the sanctions spent less time pursuing their ambitions and more time studying Iran’s national interest, they would realize that Iran is in a dire situation and that it must search for alternative fuel supplies regardless of the government. The NPT ensures Iran’s inalienable right to pursue peaceful nuclear technology. It is the guarantee of the Iranians for the future.

And finally, the imposition of sanctions meant that the US administration was successful in intimidating the ‘world body’ into taking away the right of the Iranian people and violating international law- again. The sanctions were not a judgment on the Islamic regime – the resolution meant denying Iran her sovereignty –with the full knowledge that sanctions would be ineffective, with the next chapter in this game being military action.

The method used to destroy Iran, as known in the neo-con circle, will be “Total War”. "A total war strategy does not have to include the intentional targeting of civilians, but the sparing of civilian lives cannot be its first priority … The purpose of total war is to permanently force your will onto another people group.” [iv]

Many of the total war and creative destruction crowd get their ideas across to the public through an agency called Benador Associates, which arranges their TV appearances and speaking engagements, and helps to place their articles in newspapers. Ms. Benador, the founder of Benador Associates, along with Senator Liberman is busy promoting Reza Pahlavi[v]. The Infamous Max Boot, a Benador associate has endorsed using the MEK to cause havoc and mayhem in Iran. Boot is not alone in promoting his idea. The Iran Policy Group (IPC) is advocating the use of terror group fighters from the Mujaheden-e Khalq (MEK/MKO) “as intelligence agents and urged the consideration of military options to spark an uprising in Iran,”[vi].

Ahmadinejad is not blameless, this is certain. But one must realize that the West has always wanted to have Iran back as a client state. For the past 27 years, the role of presidency in Iran has always been ineffective. It was the West that chose to give Ahmadinejad a rope to hang himself with, and with it, the Iranian people. We must cut the rope that is about to hang the people.

If Iranians wish to claim their past glory, they owe it to future generations to defend their country today. Let them be as proud of their history as we have been. Sanctions and war will only hurt the nameless and the blameless; those who are too poor to escape the savagery of ambition and greed. Let us not betray the future, nor bury the underprivileged; but recognize the enemy and work together to save our country.

Opposition Groups Don’t Care about Rajavi

In response to repetition of slogans on "unity" by Rajavi, Didgah website expressed ideas which received some reactions. These reactions show that the gang of Rajavi is not accepted even among opposition groups.

Ali Nazer, director of Didgah website, childishly insists that the unity among opposition groups is an important issue for the MKO. "Why the MKO doesn’t call for unity? Is it harder than getting the support of a British or American representative?" he asks.

According to the self-conceit of MKO, he asks them:

"Isn’t it true that Massoud Rajavi, in his first message, addressed all those who share the same ideas on Republic, Democracy and the rule of Iranians? Isn’t it true that Mojahedin believe that Massoud Rajavi is their ideological leader? Then, why his particular request has not been answered? Why all MKO members and supporters, who are ready to give their lives for Massoud and Maryam even by self-immolation, have remained silence on this request? Why the MKO allowed the failure of "National Unity Project"?

Some people ask what if an organization or a political group doesn’t want to unite. I say, "Some senators didn’t want to support the MKO at first. It was the efforts of the MKO that led to their support for the group. The only major and positive difference is that in National Unity Project, Mojahedin don’t want and need not to expect others to support them but they want others to unite and form a common platform and front. In this front, no one necessarily supports nobody, but they make alliance to overthrow the enemy."

Ali Nazer intentionally deceives himself and ignores the fact that Iranian now know all MKO’s lies and that the MKO can only deceive those who are not familiar with Iran’s issues; those who don’t know the terrorist nature of the group well and support the group only for their own interests.

Then, Nazer turns to Mehdi Abrishamchi and addresses him as follows:

"I write this letter to you the chief of NCRI’s Peace Commission as an Iranian who has never had an organizational contact with the NCRI. Peace is not necessarily always made with an enemy; sometimes you have to make peace with a friend. Maybe it’s time for NCRI to initiate efforts for forming a commission (reconciliation commission, for instance) out of the NCRI, in which opponents, critics, and sympathizers can get together in order to form a broader front. There’s no doubt that the formation of such a commission will be very difficult since it’s really hard to forget all differences of these past 27 years. This needs sacrifice and patience. If we can’t form such a commission today, how will be able to sit beside each other in future’s parliament? How do you- who promise of a "democratic alternative"- want to solve the deep problems of forces, groups and individuals?"

Then, Nazer offers a list of people who can be invited to such commission by the MKO. He names people like Sadr Haj Seyed Javadi, Lahiji and others who left out the organization several years ago and now know the undemocratic nature of the group very well.

One of the people named by Nazer is Taghi Roozbeh who responds to this suggestion as follows:

"Overthrowing the regime for the sake of a democratic change requires a proportionate arrangement. Believing in overthrowing the regime is only a criterion gathering around which and ignoring other democratic facts means recreation of this hell we’re living in. This should be done in a way where there’s no place for dictators and other new administrators, such as Mojahedin and Imperialism who want to take advantage of public dissatisfaction and …finally, I should say that apart from above guidelines, all my familiarity with this group and its leaders, my experiences with them in prisons, during the revolution and their presence in Iraq and their ties with imperialist powers convince me not to cooperate with these people."

Many of these people and groups who are well aware of lack of popularity talk of the necessity of unity among forces who seek overthrow. Meanwhile, MKO is totally dependent on the western countries particularly the US in order to get something.

US Likely to Use Rajavi Again

Correspondent of Baztab from Washington reported:

"Some monarchist figures have expressed their concern over the possible close ties of Americans with Rajavi and US’s use of MKO."

This came as Massoud Rajavi left US control in Baghdad suburb and went to Jordan along with some other MKO members.

The lobby of Monarchist Opposition, the major opponent of terrorist MKO abroad, is concerned about new political activities of the group after it was suspiciously lifted from Europe’s terror list and its fund- mainly provided by Saddam- were released.

This move by US, coincident with Saddam execution, and regarding wide range cooperation between the MKO and former Baathist regime of Iraq in suppressing Kurds and Shiites in 1991, has received harsh criticism by Iraqi political groups.

It’s been said that "with respect to secret negotiations by Israeli agents in Jordan, there’s a possibility of the establishment of secret ties between Israel and this terrorist group for organizing a new round of terrorist operations.

After the fall of Saddam, MKO that faced a huge wave of defections resorted to methods like massacre, torture and suppression of criticisms in order to prevent the group from being dismantled.

The statement of Nejat Society relating the execution of former Iraqi dictator

The statement of Nejat Society relating the execution of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein

There were scenes of jubilations among the people of the world, particularly the two great nations of Iran and Iraq; following the news of the execution of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was broke to them this morning.

It is worth mentioning that Saddam Hussein or Iraq was known as the only state supporter of Mojahedin-é Khalq Organisation (MKO), and for nearly two decades the Organisation enjoyed his full financial and logistical backing in that country. The truth is that Saddam Hussein the former dictator of Iraq and Mas’ud Rajavi the leader of MKO committed many crimes in a strategic collusion against the people of Iran as well as the people of Iraq. MKO attempted many terrorist activities inside Iran in big cities against ordinary innocent citizens using the arms, intelligence and training provided by the Iraqi Ba’th regime; and in return MKO participated along the Iraqi armed forces to suppress the Shiite Moslems in the south and the Kurds in the north of the country.

Obviously one cannot make a great distinction between the misdeeds of Saddam Hussein with those of the MKO since they were much closed allies for many years. Saddam and Rajavi were like two blood brothers whom the first is captured and executed and the second is escapee and in hiding. In the video recordings of discussions between Rajavi and Iraqi security and intelligence officials found after the fall of Saddam Hussein, Rajavi clearly defines his relationship beyond a normal political connection for mutual strategic interests and calls it an ideological bond between the two of them.

The overwhelming general jubilations after the execution of the dictator, especially amongst our fellow countrymen who have many scars from this dictator on their bodies, are quite righteous and understandable. We too believe that executing him was the least one could do to cure the wounds on the hearts of thousands of victims who have been suffered due to his actions. But on the other hand many important issues were not even mentioned during the trial of Saddam Hussein never mind being dealt with. Although the execution of the dictator of the century was a right thing to do but a higher right was neglected, and that dealing with the whole truth and reality of his long reign in Iraq.

Apparently they want to finish everything off by just executing one man. In the process of the trial it was not clear who were the supporters and backers of Saddam Hussein and how he enjoyed such supports and who used the Iraqi national sources to fulfil their interests. The closed cooperation of MKO and Saddam Hussein against the nations of Iran and Iraq which could easily be proved should be sorted out in an international court of justice.

In our opinion, there should have been no rush to eliminate Saddam Hussein and if he was kept alive longer, many behind the scene affairs would have been revealed. A dictator is never a dictator by his own. He definitely has many internal and international aides and sponsors who keep him in power. Who are these people and where are they now?

It is also interesting to notice that two groups were disappointed with the execution of Saddam Hussein and remained completely silent. First were the associates of Iraqi Ba’th Party and the second were the leaders of MKO. Anyway Saddam Hussein who did not even have mercy on his own relatives and friends, kept and backed MKO in his country since they could be well used to suppress the people of Iraq and make terrorist attempts inside Iran.

Raw Story Exclusives revealed use of terror group alluded to by Leverett

On Friday, RAW STORY’s Ron Brynaert and Michael Roston revealed the redacted portions of Flynt Leverett’s "censored" New York Times op-ed which contained "sensitive" information that the White House apparently did not want disclosed—some of it obliquely referring to the Mujahedeen-e Khalq (MEK), an anti-Tehran militia.

But earlier this year, RAW STORY’s Larisa Alexandrovna reported in a series of exclusives that the Department of Defense had allegedly enlisted the MEK to conduct covert activities within Iran designed to destabilize its Balochistan region. There had been no Presidential finding, making this a purely military covert operation that has resulted either directly or indirectly in the death of several Iranian officials, including a governor

Iraqi Authorities' stance on the MEK

Tariq Harb: MKO Presence in Iraq, Illegal

Despite the approval of a ruling by former Iraqi Governing Council (IGC) on the expulsion of MKO from Iraq, the leader of the group are trying all possible ways to stay in that country.

The leaders of the group claim that the presence of the group in Iraq is legal and sometimes claim to be refugees; recently they tried to introduce the group as a political front.

During referendum on Iraqi constitution last year, this terrorist organization was trying to enter Iraq’s political scene when it claimed that Iraq’s new constitution had been written in Iran! At that time, Iraqi government responded to the situation properly.

In recent months also, by spending millions of dollars, the group has been trying to buy supporters in Iraq the newest example of which was the distribution of pamphlets under the name of Iraqi tribes, asking for the staying of MKO in Iraq.

More than 100 lawyers, tied to the former regime of Saddam Hussein and all from the dissolved Baathist party, released a statement in favor of MKO and claimed that the group’s presence in Iraq is legal.

Meanwhile, Article 7 of Iraq’s constitution- approved by 70% of Iraqis- expresses clearly that the presence of terrorist groups in Iraq is illegal.

On the other hand, it should be noted that terrorist organization of Mojahedin-e Khalq has committed terrorist activities against both Iranians and Iraqis.

MKO was involved in suppressing Kurds and Shiites in early 90s and the court of Saddam Hussein is expected to release the names of its leaders as the ones who committed crimes against Iraqis.

Earlier, Iraqi government emphasized that it would prosecute the MKO if its crimes against Iraqis are proved.

In an interview with IRNA’s correspondent in Baghdad, an eminent Iraqi lawyer discussed the issue of MKO from a legal viewpoint.

Tariq Harb, a senior lawyer in Iraq’s Judiciary, is the head of the ‘Population of Disseminating Law Culture in Iraq’. He is also one of the senior lawyers in Saddam court.

Citing Iraqi constitution, Harb said the presence of MKO in Iraq was illegal.

"Iraqi constitution clearly bans the presence of terrorist groups in the country. In legal terms, group’s presence in Iraq is illegal," he said.

On contradiction between MKO presence and Iraqi constitution, Harb said: "European countries and the US as well as many of the world’s countries have designated the MKO as a terrorist organization. Also, Iraqi constitution declares that no terrorist group should be allowed to stay in Iraq soil (article 7)."

"Article 8 of the Iraqi constitution reads that Iraq observes the principle of good neighborliness, and it should reject organizations conducting military or political operations against adjacent countries. So, the presence of groups like MKO and PKK in Iraq is illegal."

On the illegal presence of the MKO, he continued to say: "According to the laws of Iraqi non-governmental organizations and the Iranian group’s nature, the MKO has never been enlisted as foreign non-governmental organizations operating in the country. So, the MKO is not considered a legal entity and its presence is illegal."

Tareq Harb added: "Several complaints by MKO against real and legal groups or people have not been pursued by Iraqi courts because basically the MKO’s presence in Iraq can’t be accepted."

"Iraqi government should have no interaction with this terrorist group in Iraq," he said on the issue of Iraqi government’s approach toward the group.

"IGC ordered the expulsion of the group and recently, Iraqi PM said they couldn’t stay in Iraq anymore".

On repentant members of MKO who want to return to their country, Harb said:

"Iraqi government can’t help the issue. This is something that should be pursued by international organizations like Red Cross and Red Crescent. Even if they are in Iraq as refugees they can’t claim of rights. Refugee rules don’t force the host country to accept them. Despite the claims of the group, hosting countries can expel them in the case they’re not going to extradite them to their country of origin."

On MKO weapons, given to them by Saddam regime, he said:

"All their weapons and equipments, considered the properties of Iraq, should be returned to the government. Properties of other countries should also be returned to their own countries."

On the statements released under the name of Iraqi lawyers and tribal leaders in favor of MKO, he stated: "Today, one can buy others by money. There’s only money behind such supports for a terrorist organization. They can easily contact others in Iraq and offer them money in exchange of expressing support for them."

"Despite all claims, Iraqis hate the group and even tribesmen of Dyala, in which the MKO’s camp is located, dislike the group strongly."

Mr. Harb expressed hope that the elements of this terrorist group be expelled from his country as soon as possible so that good ties with neighboring nations are not damaged.

Maryam Rajavi

The False Intelligence

According to a report released by ASSOCIATED PRESS, two Iranian diplomats detained by American troops in Iraq on false allegations were released early Friday.

Following the detention of the two Iranians, Maryam Rajavi, the head of the terrorist MKO, on Thursday had claimed that the two Iranians were senior members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and had coordinated attacks against coalition troops and Iraqi civilians. She cited the group’s intelligence officials as the source of the information.

The American forces released the two because it was not possible to verify Rajavi’s allegations, made Thursday in a phone interview from Paris. Her allegations, the total product of the group’s propaganda machine, are mostly aimed to escalate the tension and to worsen the situation to advance the group’s objectives.

The MEK; Baath Party Accomplice

The End of a Patron of Terrorists

At last on Saturday at dawn Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator, went to the gallows and they put the noose around his neck. Although he was hanged only for being sentenced for murdering 148 Shi’ite Muslims in the town of Dujail in 1982, yet at the time of his execution, he was being tried on charges of genocide perpetrated against the Iraqi Kurds in the 1980s, not speaking of his many other crimes.

Saddam’s execution temporally relived MKO of the fear that was churning inside them as the organization was one of Saddam’s collaborates in killing the Iraqi Kurds. During his reign of terror, Saddam had turned Iraq into a safe haven for notorious terrorist groups such as MKO.

As TruthNews in a commentary released on December 30 states, Saddam Hussein had a long history of supporting and sponsoring terrorism and Iraq was one of seven countries that were designated by the Secretary of State as state sponsors of international terrorism. Referring to one of the specific charges listed by the White House against Saddam, the commentary states:

Iraq sheltered terrorist groups including the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO), which used terrorist violence against Iran and in the 1970s was responsible for killing several U.S. military personnel and U.S. civilians.

Although enjoying a temporally supported status, the terrorists and mercenaries of Saddam can never escape the judgment of a nation that is determined to resolve on its own destiny.
