Mojahedin-e Khalq is a terrorist entity

The European Court of Justice yesterday overturned an European Union (EU) decision to freeze the assets of an exiled Iranian resistance movement, that is on the bloc’s terrorist blacklist.

The court’s ruling annuls a 2002 decision to freeze all European assets of the Paris-based group, the People’s Mujahadeen of Iran.

It was the first time an appeal to the EU’s terrorist list has been successful at the Luxembourg-based EU court. EU legal officials stressed that EU governments would not immediately remove the exiled group from their terrorist list, saying they had to study the full 45-page ruling before any decisions would be made.

“For the time being, they are on the list,” said Jean-Claude Piris, legal counsel to the 25 EU governments. “But we have to examine it as soon as possible.”

EU governments said in a statement that the court’s ruling did not call into question the EU’s antiterrorist list.

It said that the judgment also did not call into question a decision by EU governments that group was a terrorist organisation.

The US also lists the group as a terrorist organisation.

But the group, founded by students at Tehran University in the 1960s, insists it advocates the overthrow of Iran’s hard-line clerical regime by peaceful means.

In its ruling, the court said the group was not given a fair hearing to defend itself against the move to blacklist it.

“Certain fundamental rights and safeguards, including the right to a fair hearing, the obligation to state reasons and the right to effective judicial protection are, as a matter of principle, fully applicable,” the court said.

The court ruling said there was “a distinction” between Mujahadeen’s appeal to the EU court and previous cases filed with the court to have names removed from the list.

The EU court last July dismissed requests by two terrorist suspects to annul the bloc’s moves to freeze their assets under a United Nations (UN) antiterrorist order.

The court said the exiled Iranian group was added to the list under EU law, and not under a UN order, as with the others, so EU governments are “bound to observe” fundamental rights under EU law.

Piris said that the ruling would likely force a change in how European governments add groups or persons to the list, suggesting that rules include informing those suspects after they have been added to the list, so they could exercise their right to appeal the decision at the EU’s high court.

The list, set up after the terrorist attacks on September 11 2001 and which was last updated in May, is done in secret by a special committee of security representatives from each member state.

The blacklist contains 45 people and 48 groups or entities believed to be involved in terrorist activities.

EU sources: MKO will not be removed from terror list

A European Union diplomat in Brussels has stressed that there is no chance of any political change to review the status of groups which are currently on the EU terror list.

"Definitely there will not be any change. The MKO will stay on the terror list," the EU diplomat told IRNA, speaking on condition of anonymity.

On Tuesday, the European Court of Justice annulled a decision by the EU to freeze the assets of the terrorist MKO grouplet.

The diplomat, however, explained that the case was annulled on procedural matters.

The court said the MKO was not given a fair hearing to defend itself against the move to blacklist it.

The EU, in a statement on Tuesday, said that the European bloc now intends to provide a statement of reasons to each person and entity subject to the asset freeze, wherever that is feasible, and to establish a clearer and more transparent procedure for allowing listed persons and entities to request that their case be re-considered.

Jean-Claude Piris, legal counsel to the Council of the EU, told a news conference in Brussels Tuesday that the EU will examine in a thorough way the judgment of the European court.

Piris said the decision to include the MKO was taken by consensus of all EU member states. "It was not arbitrary."

The Council of the EU represents the governments of the 25 member states.

He said the MKO remains on the terror list and its assets in Europe will remain frozen.

The EU will consider whether to make an appeal limited to points of law to the Court of Justice against this judgment, noted the EU statement.

The EU put the MKO on its terror list on May 2, 2002.

Since then, the EU has updated the blacklist several times and the MKO has been maintained on the list.

Iran dismisses European Court’s ruling on MKO assets

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad- Ali Hosseini on Wednesday dismissed as "legally unjustified and unacceptable" a ruling by the European Court of First Instance which annulled an EU decision to freeze the assets of the terrorist Mujahideen Khalq Organization (MKO).

"The ruling runs counter to the spirit of the UN Security Council resolution 1373 which holds governments responsible for fighting terrorist groups," said Hosseini on Wednesday.

Hosseini said such a measure will bring the credit and competency of authorities whose main responsibility is to defending people’s interests and fundamental rights under question.

The world public opinion will never forget MKO’s black record of inhumane crimes including their complicity in massacre of innocent Iranian and Iraqi people by former regime of Saddam Hussein, he added.

He said MKO has been recognized as a terrorist group by international organizations on the basis of the UN Security Council resolution 1373 and an European Union approval.

He added that any measure to unfreeze terrorists’ assets could serve to revive terrorism and spread terrorist activities. It will also be contrary to the responsibilities of the European Union in campaign against terrorism, he added.

Iran calls for an appeal against the European Court of First Instance, urging a fair and just judgment.

Events and developments indicate that the idea of Salafis’ Wahabism, backed and promoted by Saudis and Wahabis in Persian Gulf region, is one of the main forces behind terrorism in the world.

Al-Qaeda, Taliban, followers of Zarqawi and suicide bombers in Iraq and all over the world are all the outcomes of this terrorist thought. If we deny this fact how can we interpret the terrorist operations of Wahabis in mosques and markets, particularly in Shiite districts?

If we search the world from the East to the West, we won’t be able to find anyone who backs the idea of performing terrorist operations in Shiite areas except Wahabis themselves who believe that killing Shiites is necessary and holy act! Extremist Wahabis consider all Shiites, without any exception, as unbelievers, hypocrites and evil the killing of whom is necessary in their religion. Leaders of Wahabism believe that Shiites are apostates and that they should be killed before Jihad is declared against other unbelievers. There’s no doubt that the enemies of Islam back this idea so as to prevent the spread of Islam in the world and to ruin the face of Islam.

So, the Zionists and Mosad would probably use these irrational people to conduct bombings and operations in Iraq. Zionists have an old enmity towards Shiites, who forced them t experience the taste of failure in the war on Hizballah.

Presence of Zionist analysts in Al-Jazeera TV channel and their stances against Shiites and insisting on getting rid of them is not surprising because the Zionists and Wahabis are on one side together.

The coalition of Zionists, Wahabis and Baathists and a number of Arab leaders is to destroy Shittes and push them to the sidelines.

This coalition is not new since according to the reports, Baathists came to power by Americans the history of this coalition returns back to a time before Shiites taking power in Iraq, the victory of Hizballah and Iran’s nuclear developments.

The role of mercenaries of Mojahedin-e Khalq terrorist organization also should be considered. This treacherous group, ready to sell itself, is angry from Iraqis, Shiites and Kurds and works hard alongside Wahabis and Baathists to promote terrorism. This group is a tool in the hand of Mossad and America.

Ibrahim Jaafari’s Comments on the MEK

In an interview with IRNA, former Iraq Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari responded to a question on the “illegal presence of terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq organization in Iraq”.

“Our position towards non-Iraqi groups from neighboring countries is based on having well relationship with neighbors,” he said.

Former Iraqi PM added: “Based on this attitude, if Turkish Kurds’ Workers’ Party operates against Turkey, it will be banned from further activities.”

“Relations with Iran are also based on good will and we won’t accept MKO’s operations against Iran. This policy also applies about other neighboring countries. Iraqi government will not allow non-Iraqi groups to perform sabotage operations against other countries from Iraq. For these groups including the MKO, we have predicted two options: either leaving the country as soon as possible or stopping operations against other countries,” he added.

According to former Iraqi PM, the activities of all groups should be conducted in the framework of Iraqi constitution, according to which terrorist groups have no place in Iraq.

A Deal, Dirty but Auspicious!

It was a long time that the terrorist MKO was looking for a chance to bring its detained leader- freed in a deal- to the scene again!

Can one say that the ruling of the European court (on annulling the orders to freeze MKO funds) was a proper opportunity? Anyway, the noise made by MKO’s propaganda machine on this worthless ruling was considered a good chance by Rajavi to show up.

It’s important for the Rajavis that others don’t understand how he got back his freedom.

As he treacherously left his deceived armed forces in Iran in 1981 and fled to France, Rajavi simply accepted to get his freedom in return for allowing the dismantling of Camp Ashraf!

One another condition for his freedom was to renounce terrorism and to give up bankrupt policy of armed struggle; he has accepted this wholeheartedly. His remnants in Europe and the US have allowed their lawyers to denounce terrorism and armed struggle in order to pave the way for political survival.

It means that Americans have gotten across their message to Rajavi: the only way to get out of the terror list (the only way for the survival of the group) is to admit the failure of armed struggle and quit claims about it. Insistence on voluntary denouncement of armed struggle by the MKO in the ruling of European court proves this.

So, Rajavi comes to the scene again while total failure in Iran means the total annihilation of MKO, NLA and Camp Ashraf. On the other hand, he creates a new political entity in Europe (like tens of other invalid groups) whose duty is to serve the policies of Western politicians.

Anyway, this dirty deal (the examples of which are numerous in MKO and Rajavi’s history) will pave the way for saving many of deceived members in Camp Ashraf and it will not allow the bankrupt gang of Rajavi to exploit these members anymore.

In addition, bringing Massoud Rajavi to the scene should be a starting point for bringing him to justice. He should account for 25 years of bloodshed under his total command.

Double Standards of the west

Double Standards of the west in dealing with the Mojahedin-e Khalq?

In the United States as well as United Kingdom, the Mojahedin-E Khalq of Iran employs powerful and well connected lobbyists working to remove them from the terrorist lists of both of those countries. These lobbyists are attempting to erase the violent and bloody past of the Mojahedin-e khalq of Iran, and present a ‘revised’ version of history.

But the truth is that terrorism and violence are part of the foundation of this cult. In the absence of violence and aggression the Mojahedin will cease to exist as an organization.

The Mojahedin-e khalq of Iran have not once during their 40 years of existence condemned the use of violence as a method of struggle, and the current ‘official’ line of downplaying their past for politicians and media is just a ploy to fool the would be supporters.

The victims and groups of people who have been killed by the hands of the Mojahedin-e Khalq are not exclusively Iranians. American employees, Iraqi Kurds, Iraqi soldiers, Iranian civilians and Iranian state employees working for the Shah or the Islamic Republic are some of the people that have in the past been murdered by the Mojahedin. Even dissidents within their own organization have been killed by this cult.

Before the revolution of 1979, the Mojahedin announced with pride the assassinations of a number of Americans personal stationed in Iran as listed below:

In addition, an extensive campaign of bombings and other terrorist activities towards American & Israeli interests in Iran is available, as evidence of their bloody past.

After the revolution of 1979, the Mojahedin played an active role in the executions of the former Shah’s heads of government in kangaroo courts and sought furiously to seek the death penalty for anyone believed to have been working with the then deposed Shah of Iran or had been known to have any relationship with the Americans.

The Mojahedin supported vigorously the takeover of the American embassy on 4th November 1979, and in order to portray themselves as even “more revolutionary” then the Iranian guards supporting Ayatollah Khomeini, they decided to attack and occupy the Americans consulates in Isfahan and Tabriz.

When the power struggle between Mojahedin and the ayatollahs came to a head, they quickly fell back on their old habit of violence and terrorism. And from 1980 to 2003, more than 16,000 Iranians have been killed in their campaign of terror. The majority of those killed were innocent civilians targeted in calculated moves to bring instability and fear into the daily lives of Iranians in the hope that it would result in the downfall of the Iranian regime.

Beginning from 1982, the Mojahedin started to slowly move their camps inside Iraq with the full support of Saddam Hussein. They were given the necessary equipment and security to continue their campaign of terror. As well as operating as a spy agency for the Iraqis the Mojahedin in effect ended up being nothing more then a proxy army for Saddam Hussein. They engrained their brutal and dictatorial form of power and during a long process of brainwashing their own members and putting an end to male and female relations, the leaders of the Mojahedin created a dangerous “zombie army”.

These same brainwashed members set about to murder innocent Iraqi Kurds in 1991, at the request of Saddam Hussein.

During their stay in Iraq (1982 – present), tens of dissident members have been imprisoned or killed. Two examples include the death of Parviz Ahmadi and Ghorban Torabi, who died under torture in camp Ashraf in 1996.

In June of 2003, while Maryam Rajavi, the self proclaimed president of Iran was arrested by French police, more then 10 supporters and members of Mojahedin showed their objection to the arrest by setting themselves on fire. Of these 10 individuals, 4 suffered such an extent of damage from the fire that they died shortly after.

On May 2005, Human Rights Watch, an independent organization issued a report by the name of ‘No Exit: Human Rights Abuses Inside the MKO Camps’ which explored the dark side of the Mojahedin by interviewing a number of ex-members and their painful experiences as members of cult of Rajavis. In a report issued later in February 2006, Human Rights Watch responded to the allegation made by the Mojahedin on the legitimacy of the NO EXIT report and concluded that the statements made in the previous report were in fact truthful.

Whether Mojahedin-e Khalq of Iran will remain in the terrorist list or not, makes no real difference to the Iranian people. This is because they are viewed as a terrorist cult who has no base of support among the people of Iran.

The removal of Mojahedin-E Khalq of Iran from the terrorist list will only be a mark of shame. This will only reinforce the sense of double standards that is still harboured among Iranians. It now remains to be seen as to how the west will stand by its claims of assisting human rights and democracy for Iran and other countries in need.

Friends of Once Enemy

Reading the Wall Street Journal’s recent article “Anti-Americans On The March”, I was grabbed by the MKO’s overwhelming metamorphosis when the past memories floated through my mind. The article mainly discusses that a universal movement, regardless of being religious or atheist, to fight American hegemony has already initiated with the Lebanon’s Hezbollah forming the matrix. Religion, once regarded the main ideological obstacle to form a comprehensive resistance against the American imperialism, now prompts a collective goal once impossible to achieve:

Religion, excoriated by Karl Marx as the "opiate of the masses," has become a great mobilizing force — even for zealous atheists. The phenomenon extends beyond the Middle East to Europe, Latin America and Africa, too. Causes that a few years ago seemed moribund or at least passé — socialism, Third World solidarity, strident anti-Americanism — have been injected with the fervor, though rarely the actual faith, of Islamic radicalism.

Once itself the forerunner of such resistance, MKO has taken a sloping path swimming against the current. In its formation of struggle against the ousted Iranian monarchy, the organization propagated the idea that “there is only one major enemy: imperialism and its local collaborators”. Mojahedin denounced the American imperialism for its political, economic, social and cultural break-in role.

Mojahedin insisted that most of the world’s problems had been created by imperialism and that their main goal was to free Iran of the US imperialism. Alas, now it has turned to be something of the past found only in Mojahedin’s earlier publications and pamphlets.

The past imperialist and enemy, itself careful not to put all its trust in the blacklisted terrorists, is sought for a helping hand to assume power in Iran. Promising to do its best as a means of furthering the US-Zionists shared interests, Mojahedin has detached itself from the front of anti-American campaigners, since the common goal has evaporated, to befriend the enemy.

It seems that Mojahedin’s metamorphosis and digression is the outcome of disbelief in any belief; the communists and atheists at least believe that there is no God.

Dear Mr. Solberg

We, the undersigned, call on you to conduct a thorough, investigation into the circumstances that led into the abduction of a minor at the time, Somayeh Mohammadi, by the MEK (Mojahedin e Khalgh) organization. We are also at the opinion that she should be joining her family immediately with no more delay caused by the officials. We, strongly believe that it is against our Canadian values to let the organization still be active in our country and lobby our politicians while the pleas of the Mohammadi family is being ignored by the same authorities.

Ms. Somayeh Mohammadi, an Iranian-Canadian student was taken from Canada on a false pretension of, a month long, educational trip to Iraq in 1998 and was kept there since. The devastated Mohammadi family has been trying since to return their beloved child back to Canada. Their efforts included but not limited to over five trips to the dangerous and war torn Iraq. In doing so, they have not spared any resource or efforts to the level that the family is currently unable to support itself by any means.

Considering the limited resources of a working class family, with three more children, which has already suffered beyond imagination vs. the obstacles they face in order to reunite with their daughter and sister we urge the Canadian government to help this family and facilitate this reunion.

In the spirit of the holiday season, while all Canadian families are trying their best to express their love for each other, we urge the government to deal with this issue with kindness and generosity in mind.

We wish to see the Mohammady family celebrate this holiday as a whole for the first time in the past 8 years.

MKO’s Excuses for Political Inabilities

According to the published reports, terrorist group of Mojahedin-e Khalq is trying to use a law firm in its efforts for being lifted from terror list.

This move is not new but it has been an ongoing effort for years. MKO used/is using different groups and individuals, bribing them with large amounts of money, hoping that they can save this group!

Mojahedin sometimes resorted to people, thought to be able to do something for the organization; people like Paul Wolfowitz, John Bolton and …

The main point the group tries to hide from its own members is that the group was fully supported by Saddam and some other western countries while being out of terror list but it could do nothing.

The next point is that even if the group, after resorting to a legal firm and testing different, is lifted from terror list. What would happen?

This can be viewed from two different angles:

– That whether they can effect Iran’s political and social scene (they have not been able to do see due to being on terror list)

– That what benefits the group could get in the case of being removed from the list (that has been deprived of due to being designated)

On the issue of Iran, it should be said that all MKO’s incurable problems rise from the fact that they have no popular base inside Iran, but they are hated by Iranians. All observers agree with this fact.

This very fact is also influential in Westerners’ decisions on the group and prevents them from making contact with the group.

Therefore, being removed from the list will not solve this group’s problems. With a long-term look at the issue, the removal of the group from the list will bring worse situation for them because then they will have to account for their futile efforts in the past years.

Government and parties, the MKO think would help the group in the case of being removed from the list, believe that the group should quit terrorist policies and turn to a political organization. Then, the incurable pain of lacking popular support and political inability comes to the group and anti-Iranian parties in the West- even the stupid ones like Neocons- are smart enough not to be trapped in this vicious circle.
