The MEK; Baath Party Accomplice

Yesterday’s Allies, Today’s Traitors

After some scenes of Saddam being interrogated were broadcast by Al-Arabia new channel, Judge Raed Johi- the head of Saddam’s trial court- announced that Tariq Aziz, deputy Iraqi prime minister, and Barzan Ibrahim, Saddam’s half brother, and Ali Hassan Al-Majid (aka Chemical Ali) have testified in the court.

These traitors have blamed Saddam Hussein for the operation Al-Anfal and the massacre of 1991 and didn’t accept any responsibility for these crimes.

Besides these people, some terrorist groups helped Saddam Hussein in these operations, the most important of which is the MKO (Mojahedin-e khalq). The MKO, an Iranian opposition group based in Iraq takes advantage of Iraq’s resources and is protected by Americans. This organization also, like the mentioned traitors, has denied its role in the massacre of Iraqi innocent people.

Former Iraqi officials and supporters of Baath regime can’t wash their bloody hands with just claiming that they had not been involved. They should stand before justice court and should account for their criminal acts.

Today, Iraqi innocent people follow carefully the process of the court and are testing the judgment and justice. The court should quit double treatment and try all former authorities and all those involved in suppressing Kurds, Shiites and Iraqis. These traitors should experience the bitter taste of murder, massacre and violence and it would be lesson for terrorists and criminals.

Iraq Should Stop Sheltering Terrorists

In response to Turkey’s positive stance, Jafari’s government should cooperate with it in resolving the issue of Kurdistan.

The outcome of the meeting of Iraqi neighbors’ interior ministers in Istanbul was in favor of Iraqi government and was conducted for fighting terrorism and preventing terrorist elements from penetrating the region. What can be viewed easily in the meeting was the clarity of the decisions. Turkey’s positive position attracted the attention of all attendants. Turkey’s interior minister called the survivors of the former regime, and their associates and affiliates, terrorist and stressed that they think of nothing except instability and blood shedding in Iraq.

This positive stance was also reflected in the final statement of the conference. Iraqi neighbors announced their preparedness to help Iraq fight terrorism by giving training services and security equipments.

In response to this positive stance, Turkey should cooperate with Iraq in eradicating PKK in Iraq. This armed group has established military bases in northern Iraq and enjoys the assistance of different groups.

If Iraq wants its neighbors to tighten up security at their borders with Iraq and stop the terrorists entering that country, it should work to guarantee the security of the neighbors. Sheltering terrorists in Iraq should not be justified using ideological reasoning by Jafari’s government. As Iraq neighbors try to secure the region, Iraq should also play its role. In this regard, Iraq should stop PKK’s activities in the north.

Armed groups such as PKK, Ansar Al-Islam, Al-Qaeda and Mojahedin-e khalq and have chosen Iraq as a terrorist land for themselves and use religious, Islamic and Jihadi slogans to hide their own terrorism, violence, kidnapping, trafficking drugs and weapons and humans in the region. All these groups, despite the difference in ideology and resources, have one purpose and that is "close cooperation". The reason for this is the close cooperation of Baath party with Al-Qaeda and Al-Zarqawi. Riot and murder in Iraq is the result of the cooperation of these groups.

Keeping these terrorist groups, and justifying their presence for security and religious reasons, doesn’t benefit Iraq.

Voluntarily Return of Some MKO Defectors

In a phone contact with the office of Red Cross, Mr. Khezr Aval, Deputy Representative of Red Cross in Tehran, said that by the assistance of International Red Cross, a number of former MKO members who were settled in a US camp in Iraq have returned to Iran on August 2, 2005.

He added that the office of Red Cross would release the names of new returnees.

Appreciating the efforts of Red Cross and other organizations, Iranian and Iraqi authorities and other organizations , we congratulate the return of defectors to the country . Taking it as a good omen, we ask the authorities on the fate of other former members in US-run camps and those still detained by the cult of Rajavi.

The MEK Expulsion from Iraq

MKO Leaders Must be Tried

Iraqi newspaper "Al-Jomhooriah", reflecting the opposition of Iraqi people and media to the presence of terrorist group of Mojahedin-e khalq in Iraq, asked for the trail of the leaders of this group.

"We ask the Iraqi government to bring the leaders of this group to the court of anti-human crimes and try them (as Baath leaders) before the Iraqi people," Al-Jomhooriah wrote on Sunday.

"Iraqi people are waiting for the trial of the leaders of this group in court of justice so that their real nature and face and their ties to Saddam’s regime are revealed."

Stressing the need to expel the elements of the MKO from Iraq, Al-Jomhooriah wrote: "Iraqi government and leaders must take necessary measures to root out remnants of Baath regime, including the Mojahedin-e khalq."

According to this newspaper, after Mr. Jafari’s visit to Iran, Iraq entered a new phase of its history and since the MKO was the agent of former regime, Iraqis want to get rid of it.

"This group found Saddam’s regime a safe haven for expanding terrorism and assisted Baath regime in massacring Iraqi people."

There were also other articles about the MKO in other Iraqi newspapers.

Al-Menar Al-Yaum newspaper has discussed the issue of the MKO in a series of articles, stressing the need for their immediate exit from Iraq.

"The US agrees to consider the MKO a terrorist organization" and "Terrorism and its causes are of Iraqi constitution’s priorities" were the titles of articles published in this newspaper on Saturday and Sunday.

Last week also, on Thursday, Al-Menar Al-Yaum wrote: "Iraqis won’t be influenced by the lies of MKO".

"Despite its so-called nationalist slogans during 1960s, the MKO cooperated with Saddam Hussein in his war against Iran so that former regime considered this group as one of its military units in the war against Iran," the paper wrote.

Al-Menar Al-Yaum stressed: "This terrorist group, which has acted against the people of its country, is very wretched for the Iraqis."

The statement of Iraqi tribes’ leaders and Nejat Society

The statement of Iraqi tribes’ leaders and Nejat Society on MKO’s expulsion from Iraq

After two decades of usurping presence of terrorist MKO in Iraq territory , along with Saddam Hussein ‘s monarchist aims in the region and considering their  treason  to both friend countries  Iran and Iraq- as Saddam’s mercenaries and regarding to their activities including :

–      Participation in "Morvarid" [pear] operation to suppress Kurds’ uprising in Iraq in which hundreds of Iraqi civilians were killed or injured by mortal squads of MKO.

–      Supporting the oppression of shiits’ uprising by Saddam’s evil regime while the first Gulf War and assisting the regime via providing it with information .

–      Committing aggression to Islamic Republic of Iran borders via Iraq territory in various operations such as "Aftab" [sun] from Mehran’s boundary and "Forough" [light] from Qasr Shirin boundry and many other operations done in order to act terrorist activities under the straight supervision of Saddam and Baa’th army.

–      Training terror groups in their unlawful camps in Iraq which was led to foreign countries intervention in Iraqi people’s fate, under the cover of fighting on terrorism.

Besides we must consider the plunder of Iraq capital ,MKO’s conspiracy with Iraq Mukhabirat officials shown in available films in order to abuse Iraqis’ rights in Oil  Food project and waste it to suppress Iraqi meek people.

Now that, there are some facilities to return MKO’s  followers to Iran including public amnesty and freely presence of more than five hundred of returnees, those gathered here, on behalf of Iraqi people demand the democratic government of Iraq and all humane international societies to make some facilities in order to expel the MKO from Iraq.

Mujahedin Khalq as an Opposition Group

Alen Cheuvalrias interviewed Banisadr- (Part two)

–        You mean relation with Iraq had been started a short time before the divorce.

–        Not at all, their relation was much older. Every thing had begun in the early 1983. And this was the reason of our separation in January, I received a call from Edgard Pisani, one of the former and popular ministers of General de Gole. He had asked me :”do you agree with a meeting with Mr Tariq Aziz?” Tariq Aziz was Saddam’s minister. How did you want me accept that. I considered myself as a victim of Iraq. As the former president of Iran, how could I accept to meet a member of the aggressive country?

–        Therefore you refused …

–        Of course. But, an hour later, Rajavi came to me and told me:”I accepted to meet Tariq Aziz.” I reproached him, since he had made this decision without consulting me.

–        What happened during the meeting?

–        As, it was expected, the meeting took three hours, rather than an hour. Tariq Aziz bought Rajavi.

–        Wasn’t the victim satisfied?

–        Maybe. But, unfortunately Rajavi didn’t realize that, one can not go to Tehran via Baqdad and then control Iran. No Iranian could tolerate it .

–        On February 8th , 1985, a while after your daughter’s divorce from Rajavi, he married Maryam Rajavi and immediately called her ” the leader” of Mujahedin Khalq too. Now who commands the Mujahedin? Masud or Maryam?

–        Masud, definitely. He is the leader and Maryam the commander-in-chief. They’re a political couple just like “Mao Tse-Tang” and “Chou En- Lia”. He told that Ayatollah Khomeini has divested him of a power that was legally his. He considered himself as Imam. Perhaps, that very “Imam Zaman”. According to our religious laws, “Imam Zaman” or our twelfth Imam who became absent in 873, should return before the ending of the world to bring peace to the world.

–        How can the MEK members, the Marxists, in spite of all these things, accept his believes?

–        They live, separated from the rest of the world. They don’t have the right to say a word except Rajavi’s thoughts. It seems they live in a cult. For me, Mujahedin are nothing but a cult…

–        What’s your idea about military activities of MEK?

–        In my idea, violence against violence, there’s no other solution in Iran. To oppose this regime, you should neutralize its forces politically. A national awakness has been appeared, regarding to that the violence is useless. Rajavi and I, in “ouver Sur d’Oise , have decided to limit using military forces when defending ourselves and never start violence ourselves, but, he came to me one day, with a new slogan. He affirmed “Armed struggle is the only solution to put an end to regime. He insisted that I also imitate him and support his idea in my journal which was being published in exile, called “Islamic Revolution”. Besides attacking the enemy in his own base was not useful. Since Qoran says:”Qateloo Aemato lkofr”; “attack the chiefs of the infidels”. If you want to achieve victory with armed forces, you should kill some Iranians for they want Khomeini. It’s a vain dream. This very point, was always the disagreement point between me and Rajavi.

–        In Iran I got some testimonies which are based on some attacks to civilians. The victims and the witnesses accuse Mujahedin Khalq for this attempt. Is it creditable?

–        I doubt about that, since its not profitable for them. I know that some other groups acted in the same way, such as the ones who worked for Iran government including Javadi…

(I understand that BaniSadr means, Javad Mansouri, former chief of Sepah Pasdaran, who I met in Tehran)

– Javadi and his friends in order to justify their pressure on Mujahedin and execute them, committed violent and cruel attacks on Mujahedin’s account. And Rajavi, in his turn, accepted the charge of these attacks to attach importance to himself.

–        I also considered testimonies on their motor attacks in the center of cities.

–        Yes, they happened in Mr. Khomeini’s era. Rajavi got the responsibility and he might be responsible.

–        However, the bombing in Islamic Republic Party in which 72 persons were killed including Ayatollah Behashti and 10 governmental individuals and 20 deputies, also happened.

–        Mujahedin had no role in this attempt. The following day, I asked them and they admitted that they’re innocent.

–        However, they accepted the responsibility.

–        I asked Iran second office (Army Information) about it. They told me:” this attempt was an engineering action. The explosives were placed in an exact way so that the ceiling falls dawn and kills everybody. Nobody is able to operate such attack except the  army and if it’s not our faults, it’s the Pasdaran’s …”

(My nerves started to walk , since while that attempt he was deposed from his responsibility and as a fleeing person , I think his Iranian information service got him the information badly. More than any other thing, I could feel his uncomfortable situation.

My attention draw to the former president’s hands which were hitting the hands of the sofa. It was his dinner time.)

–        In Iran , with the agreement of the officials, I met some separated MEK. Most of them were free. They had enjoyed the Public Amnesty law. What do you think of the accuracy of their discourses?

–        It’s the regime’s regulation. All Mujahedin members are condemned to death. Otherwise, they accepted to cooperate with regime. You shouldn’t   trust on such people.

–        But, even if I don’t trust, I have to accept that their words was confirmed by the other refugees who live in Germany or other parts of  Europe.

–        I know some sincere ones among them, however you should investigate.

–        I agree. For this reason, I’m looking for the most number of activists and witnesses to compare their words. In this case, Mujahedin members don’t help me so much. They don’t like the journalists who are too curious to know about them.

–        No. I know. Once a reporter interviewed them , after the interviews, they understood that one of them has talked too much. So they wanted to get back the reported cassettes of the interviews.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group

MKO, From”Forough”to Today’s Limbo

On 25 July 1988, in the last days of Iran-Iraq war, after the ceasefire was accepted by Ayatollah Khomeini, the MKO (Mojahedin-e khalq Organization) launched an all-out armed operation against the Islamic republic; despite early breakthrough, it was soon crushed by the military forces loyal to the Islamic Republic.A number of high ranking officials of MKO, who later left the MKO, called it a "military suicide"

This operation, called by the MKO "Forough-e Javidan" (Eternal Light) and called "Mersad" (Ambsuh) by Iranian leaders, was the largest armed move by an iranian opposition group which was performed to topple the Islamic Republic government.

Using heavy weaponry (including tanks, armored vehicles) and with thousands of trained members, Mojahedin entered Iran from Iran on July 25, very easily and determinedly. They soon passed the cities of Kermanshah province and captured Sarpol Zahab, Karand, and Western Islamabad and moved towards the city of Kermanshah.

According to the Iranian officials, the early successes by the MKO had created fear among the authorities and they were concerned that Kermanshah might fall soon and that MKO forces move toward the capital.

It seemed that MKO, conceited of developments and the support of the people of the captured cities, moved toward Kermanshah.

Iranian military commanders say they withdrew intentionally in order to blow back later with stronger force.

According to the officials, Revolutionary Guard and Basij forces started their final operation on July 27, when the MKO was only 40 kilometers from the city of Kermansha. MKO forces were crushed heavily.

Revolutionary Guard commanders say that around 1500 armed members of the MKO were killed in the operation and many of them were wounded or captured.

But Iranian officials have not mentioned the number of casualties on their own side.

Now the MKO calls this operation one of its historical achievements!! They called it "Forough Insurance" and said that they imposed a big blow on the pillars of Islamic republic. They also claim that they killed thousands of Iranian forces.

The MKO has never mentioned the real purpose of this operation and it never says whether it was to capture Tehran. So, in MKO’s point of view, this operation has not failed.

But heavy failure and the high number of casualties of MKO made some members and supporters ask questions on the accuracy of decision (by MKO leader) to attack Iran.

A number of high ranking officials of MKO, who later left the MKO, called it a "military suicide" and put the blame on Massoud Rajavi the leader of the organization.

Many of the experts believe that the waning period of MKO, as an armed group, started since that time.

Former members of the organization say that after that time MKO was more dependent on Saddam Hussein.

After the fall of Saddam Hussein by US-led coalition forces, the MKO left its independence more than ever before and after being disarmed by US forces, was limited to its main base near Baghdad (under the US control).

Now, around 3000 MKO members are living in limbo in Iraq, without clear future.

Iraqi Tribes Vs. MKO

A number of MKO members’ families met a group of Iraqi tribes’ leaders and asked them to help the expulsion of the MKO from that country.

In the meeting, held in Hotel Pars in Shirza, one of the leaders (of Iraqi tribes) said: "Although we were not informed of many issues about this group, we always opposed to their presence in Iraq."

"All Iraqi tribes want this group expelled from Iraq but now the Americans control this group and we have intervention in the issue," Vahab Abd Khashi Al-Salam added.

"We, Iraqi tribes, follow the religious authority and we would do whatever this authority orders."

He pointed to the religious commonalities of the two countries and said: "Iran and Iraq share the love toward Imam Hussein and nothing can create split between the two countries."

Another tribe leader said: "we would do our best in the new government to expel this group from Iraq.

"we, leaders of Iraqi tribes, asked the national assembly of Iraq to expel this group from Iraq because we have suffered a lot from them," said Abdulkarim Abdulhussein Al-Tabatabyee.

"When Saddam was in power, no MKO member entered the shiite-dominated southern Iraq because they didn’t feel safe there."

In the meeting, the sister of a MKO member said: "we ask you to help us meet our loved ones again and ask you to expel them from your country."

"Our relatives are not allowed to leave Iraq and they don’t let us meet them while Islamic Republic has issued public pardon for them."

She cried and added: "we ask you, as our religious brothers, to help us since we can’t ask American, British or Israeli forces."

The meeting was held by Anjoman Nejat (Salvation Association) in Fars Province.
