MEK terror group responsible for assassination

My own confidential Israeli source confirms today’s murder was the work of the Mossad and MEK, as have been a number of previous operations I’ve reported here, reports Silverstein.

The US-backed terrorist group Mujahedeen-e Khalq (MEK), in association with Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, was responsible for today’s car bomb attack in Tehran which killed Iranian nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, according to Israeli sources close to Jewish writer Richard Silverstein.

The scientist, a specialist working at the country’s Natanz’s uranium enrichment facility, was killed after a magnetic bomb was attached to the side of his car by two men on a motorcycle.

"My own confidential Israeli source confirms today’s murder was the work of the Mossad and MEK, as have been a number of previous operations I’ve reported here," reports Silverstein.

Silverstein’s blog, Tikum Olam, cannot be dismissed as Iranian state media. According to the Daily Telegraph, the blog "has a record of revealing information censored inside Israel" and has been praised as being "important" by Yossi Melman, a veteran security and intelligence reporter for Haaretz.

Silverstein adds that the method of assassination mirrors similar murders carried out by MEK and Mossad in the past. He also cites a Le Figaro piece which documents how, "Iranian assets are being prepared for conducting operations inside [Iran] as part of Israel’s undercover intelligence war against Iran’s nuclear energy program."

Israeli Source: Assassination of Iranian Nuclear Scientist Joint Mossad-MEK Operation

An Iranian news agency reports that a fourth Iranian nuclear scientist has been assassinated. Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan was a professor specializing in petroleum engineering at a technical university and director of Natanz’s uranium enrichment facility. Mehr news agency said he was “deputy director of the commercial department of the Natanz nuclear enrichment facility.” He was killed by a bomb attached to the side of his car by two men on a motorcycle. My own confidential Israeli source confirms today’s murder was the work of the Mossad and MEK, as have been a number of previous operations I’ve reported here.

The killing took place at or near a Teheran university. The method recalls another series of assassinations that occurred of Fereidoun Abbassi Davani (who was seriously wounded) and his colleague Majid Shahriari (who was killed). Today’s killing occurred two years to the day after the assassination of another scientist, Masoud Ali Mohammadi.

Reuters also adds this:

An [Iranian ] official [said]…”The bomb was a magnetic one and the same as the ones previously used for the assassination of the scientists, and is the work of the Zionists (Israelis)” Fars quoted Deputy Governor Safarali Baratloo as saying.

Witnesses told Reuters they saw two people on the motorbike stick the bomb to the car.

Time also offers a comprehensive report.

France’s right-wing Le Figaro newspaper offers (this is an English language report on the story) a window into the types of training and recruitment the Mossad engages in to prepare for such sabotage missions. It reports that Israeli agents identify Iranian Kurdish recruits who are living in exile in Iraqi Kurdistan. There they train them in “spycraft and sabotage:”

…The Iranian assets are being prepared for conducting operations inside [Iran] as part of Israel’s undercover intelligence war against Iran’s nuclear energy program. The Baghdad source told the French daily that part of Israel’s sabotage program against sensitive Iranian nuclear facilities, which includes targeted assassinations of Iranian nuclear experts, is directed out of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, “where [Mossad] agents have stepped up their penetration.” For this, “the Israelis are using Kurdish oppositionists to the regime in Iran, who are living as refugees in the Kurdish regions of Iraq”, the source told Le Figaro.

Although the article makes no mention of official or unofficial sanction of the Israeli operations by the Iraqi Kurdish authorities, it implies that the alleged Mossad activities are an open secret in Iraqi Kurdistan. This is not the first time that allegations have surfaced in the international press about Israeli intelligence activities in Kurdistan. In 2006, the BBC flagship investigative television program Newsnight obtained strong evidence of Israeli operatives providing military training to Kurdish militia members. The program aired video footage showing Israeli expects drilling members of Kurdish armed groups in shooting techniques and guerrilla tactics.

The Israeli government denied having authorized any such training, while Iraqi Kurdish officials refused to comment on the report. But Israeli security experts told the BBC that it would be virtually impossible for Israeli trainers to operate inside Iraqi Kurdistan “without the knowledge of the Kurdish authorities.”

Iraqi Kurdistan may be one of the few places in the Arab world in which an Israeli is welcome, even Israeli spies.

There also can be little doubt that the U.S. comes into this mix, as the Iraqi Kurdish authorities maintain extremely good relations with U.S. officials in that country. And it’s hard to believe that we aren’t playing a role in expediting this mischief in any way we can.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it every time something like this happens: assassinations like the one today accomplish nothing. It doesn’t fundamentally harm Iran’s nuclear program. It doesn’t deter Iran or its scientists from pursuing the research and whatever scientific goals they may have. These are shameful acts by a shameful Israeli government exploiting Iranian terrorists for their own ends. I find it disgusting that Israel can get away with such acts with impunity.

I am not a supporter of Iran’s nuclear program. But I am even less a supporter of assassination as state policy, and that includes my own nation, whose president seems especially enamored of targeted killings, even of U.S. citizens.

US presidential candidates, MKO terrorists; any link

In his article on Antiwar.com on Monday, Justin Raimondo wrote about the MKO’s advocates among the US presidential candidates and their being motivated to take part in the MKO campaign for taking out of the US list of foreign terrorist groups mostly for private gain.

This American author says "Bolton has long championed the Mujahadeen-e-Khalq (Peoples’ Mujahideen, or MEK), an Islamo-Marxist cult widely hated in Iran."

Earlier last month Newt Gingrich promised to appoint the controversial former ambassador to the United Nations for President George W. Bush, John Bolton, to be secretary of state if elected president.

The analyst also warned that under a Gingrich administration we would witness the spectacle of the US Army "installing in power a group currently on the US State Department’s list of terrorist organizations".

Some months earlier Republican figures including John Bolton, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, and former Attorney General Michael Mukasey also took part in the campaign to remove MKO from US blacklist.

He made reference to another Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney, and stated that "Romney, too, has his MEK connection," alluding to Romney’s especial advisor, Mitchell Reiss, who is a leading supporter for Mujahedin-e Khalq terrorist group.

The editorial director of Antiwar.com also pointed out that Mujahedin-e Khalq enjoys "widespread support on Capitol Hill" and stated that "this is the only terrorist group I know of that is allowed to maintain an unofficial embassy in Washington through various front groups".

He raised a question that "could it have something to do with the large amounts of cash the MEK front groups in Washington are throwing around?" concluding that some of these supporters are somehow motivated to take part in the campaign in Washington to remove the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK, MKO, PMOI, Rajavi cult) from the US list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations mostly by the desire for private gain and, in fact, are charged by MKO’s front groups.

The followings are some methods used by the MKO to cope with dissident members who opposed the MKO’s move to Iraq:

They were killed under the scenario designated by some of their extremist comrades
They were shot by their own comrades who had no idea who they were shooting at.(like what happened in Al-Shaabania Operation)
They were sent on armed mission inside Iran and then the group leaders would betray their haven to the Iranian government.
They were imprisoned in prisons in Camp Ashraf, where they were tortured to give up their disagreement with the group otherwise they would be transfered to abu Quraib prison.

Most of the defectors of the group who had first joined it before Islamic Revolution, stated that they were shocked by the deviations took place in the organization after its leadership was excluded to Massoud Rajavi.

This man has highly obsessive ideas against males. He replaced all male members of their Elite Council with female members. At the present time the top number two and three of the organization are two women respectively Maryam Rajavi and Mahvash Sepehri. Even the commander of Camp Ashraf is a woman called Mozhgan Parsaiee. One of the female defectors of the group, Batoul Soltani says:” when Massoud Rajavi had a meeting with a woman, no man was allowed to enter. Men became Minor to women after the ideological revolution. This woman-holic is so smart; he has a deep insight that has so far helped him maintain his activities.”

About Massoud Rajavi, she says:”all dictators around the world believe in at least a few limitations for themselves. For example, some dictators try to preserve their dignity and pride and say,’ I don’t make relations with America or Soviet Union’. But Massoud Rajavi had links with the US and other Western countries while he claimed to struggle against Imperialism, at the same time he was connected to the Soviet Union too. No ideological limits prevented him from working with either of them.”

One can accurately grant Massoud Rajavi the title “political genius” because of his methods of controlling bodies and minds of his group members hence no one is found in the organization, who is not afraid of him, even if members hate him whole-heartedly.

Before going to his manipulation methods to control bodies and soles, let’s have a look on his recruitment methods:

They recruit the 17 to 22 year-old youth by chanting slogans , they claim that they struggle against religious extremism and reactionary Islam and for freedom of Iranian nation.
They trap young Iranians under the pretext of transferring to Europe. A large number of human smugglers who worked for the MKO in Turkey and Pakistan had been cooperating with two travel agencies called Nabtia and Delta, according to a document obtained from Intelligence Service of former Iraqi Baath regime. Based on the document, when an Iranian young wanted to immigrate to Europe, the smuggler would convince him to go there via Baghdad and Jordan. They would be transferred to Iraq through Jordan without having any official document, just with the help of both countries’ security services.

However, keeping these individuals in the organization required some procedures and tactics used by the group.

1 – Exhausting Labour
All members work (physically active) 16 to 18 hours a day so that they find no time to think. I refer to one of Rajavi’s quotes in a meeting with his Elite Council:” I ask you to turn them into skinny and boney guys in order that they are not able to oppose."

2 – Physical and mental surveillance
In Camp Ashraf nobody is allowed to traverse alone. Every member has to be in company with a superior or inferior comrade. In Auver sur d’Oise the MKO base in France, the number reaches three.
a. Individual exercising is forbidden.
b. Thinking is forbidden. Everyone who sits somewhere alone for a few moments has to then confess all his thoughts to his superior official.
c. Everyone has to supervise his or her comrades
d. No family contact is allowed
e. Government forces: in former Iraqi regime, security forces used to arrest those members who wanted to escape the camp. After the fall of that regime, such a thing didn’t happen anymore. About Auver Sur d’Oise, the police have the responsibility.

3 – Hostage taking
Holding children as hostages: before 1991, organizational marriages took place in the organization. Members had to marry the spouse that was assigned for them by the group leaders. In 1991 when the first gulf war started the children who were the fruit of those marriages, were transferred to Europe. Seven hundred children were sent to European countries under the pretext of “dangerous war situation". The kids were moved there under the cover of human rights organization that were actually front organization of the MKO with fake passports, then they would be delivered to European mothers. After the gulf war ended, all spouses were ordered to divorce under the title” Ideological Revolution”. The organization held their children as hostages in order that members did not dare to escape.

4 – Fear and intimidation
a. Every member who attempts to leave or escape the base will be tortured and imposed severe peer pressure. Tens of his comrades will verbally and physically abuse him.
b. The members are all the time inculcated that if they escape the camp. They will be arrested and executed by Iranian forces. Here, I would cite a famous quote from Rajavi that is a significant proof of his notorious ideas:”we should all the time implement axe, bullet and pistol on the members.”

The article has been written completely based on testimonies of some former members of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization and films and documents obtained from former Iraqi regime. It does not contain any personal position.

I woke up late in the morning. I fumbled toward my desk. As usual I took my cell phone to check my calls. I saw an unknown phone number that brought me totally on the alert. Immediately I called back, excited to know who would get the call…

The next day, I left home for a hotel in Baghdad while I hadn’t slept the previous night at all. I wanted to visit a group of Iranians who had come to Iraq from both Europe and Iran for one single cause: revealing one of the most mysterious and active covert political and intelligence organizations that I had already gathered a little information about.

The organization was founded by a group of Islamist political activists, Mohammad Hanif nejad, Saeed Mohsen and Ali Asghar badeezadegan who started their armed struggle following the June 5th,1963 (Khordad 15th,1342) uprising in Iran. They were inspired by Latin America armed movements. Two years later in 1965 they founded their organization that was not named Mojahedin Khalq yet and was simply called the “Organization” by its members. Their cause was the overthrow of Pahlavi regime that arrested and executed a large number of the organization’s activists shortly after. In 1971, thirteen MKO leaders including Massoud Rajavi were sentenced to death. Massoud Rajavi could suspiciously survive that death penalty.

The organization has never been a moderate one in its approaches. They never agreed with Islamist activists who were also struggling before the Revolution. Mr. Hassan Azizi [former MKO member]’s testimony proves the issue:”The MKO used to quarrel with Islamists in the prison. They used to offend them [their co-prisoners] telling them “Until we are, you mustn’t be”.

Asked about Massoud Rajavi’s personality, he replied:”he is an evil under the cover of human.” To support his claim, he said, ”We got to know that the Iranian government had suspected one of the team bases that had housed the organization’s number two, Musa Khiabani and his wife Azar Rezaiee and Massoud Rajavi’s first wife, Ashraf Rabiee’.

"According to the group security regulations, the place had to be immediately abandoned for 48 hours in order to make sure about the safety of the place after that they could return. But Massoud Rajavi called from France and assured them that the base was not recognized [by security forces] and that they would be able to stay there. Then the government forces besieged the house and after two hours of armed clashes [the MKO] agents were killed. Besides, when all the group leaders were imprisoned and then executed by the Pahlavi regime, he [Rajavi] was the only one who survived.”

He also said:”in 1383, National Council of Resistance was established by Iranian opposition movements including Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Dr. Qasemlou – who was suspiciously murdered in Viene, Austeria- National Democratic Front led by Hedayat Allah Matin Daftari and famous personalities like former Iranian president Abul Hassan BaniSadr. [The NCRI] intended to create a free region in Iranian Kurdistan. Following the hammering of Kurdistan by Iranian government, we were transferred to Alan Heights in Iraq, under Massoud Rajavi’s order. [In Iraq] we were busy-minded with a question: what are we doing in a country hostile to Iran? There, the aims of the organization were not clear to members so most dissident members were killed by Rajavi in ambiguous ways.”

MKO’s bloody plan to leave Camp Ashraf

Everyone knows that the end year 2011 is the final deadline for the Mujahedin Khalq Organization’s stay in Iraqi soil where the group has occupied a 16000 –square meter area that has housed 3400 men and women. The group has played as a political actor for decades both before and after the fall of Baath regime, by making relations with Iraqi and European politicians and paying bribes to them. Now, we should think of weather the organization intends to leave Iraqi soil after thirty years or not?

To answer the question, I doubtlessly say:”Never”, because of my various conversations with over ten former members of the MKO. Following those talks I came into horrible conclusions.

There is a building called No.34 that houses Massoud Rajavi, according to former members including Abolfazl Fereidooni and especially Mrs. Maryam Sanjabi who had been a member of the Leadership Council of the MKO. My doubt vanished when I talked with Ali Qezel Qarshi. Mehdi Naderi and Shahram Heidary a few weeks ago. They said that the organization had ordered them to defend that building to the last breath. They even told them to defend it Ashura-Style [referring to Imam Hussein’s Martyrdom].

Some of former members also speak of underground tunnels and basements of the mentioned building. I can courageously say that the MKO’s arms are kept there. For instance, I quote from Mr. Ali Qezel Qarshi : ” in one case I saw more than 20 different types of arms such as mortar Kelashnikov ,after sometime I asked about those arms but I was told that they were given to Iraqi forces. I exactly knew that were never handed over to Iraqi forces.

Other former members speak of digging ditches in the camp and of making cold weapons in order to slow the move of Iraqi forces. Meanwhile they launch a propaganda attack against Iraqi government and create a massacre.[all former members],unanimously believe that the MKO does not intend to go and doesn’t hesitate to victimize all members to fulfill this objective.

Camp Ashraf is highly important to the group and to prove it, one can refer to some of Maryam Rajavi’s recent speeches in which she asserts Camp Ashraf as the most important strategic point for the organization and the MKO does not leave it at all.

To pressure Iraqi government, the MKO pays large amounts of money to European officials including Lord Corbett and the mayor of Ouver Sur d’Oise in France, some US senators and also some Iraqi officials with links to former Baath regime. They gathered signatures from some of our deceived Sunni countrymen. Iraqi Council of tribes issued a statement calling Iraqi government, United Nations and Red Cross to grant guarantee letters to save lives and properties of the group members. Besides, they collected some signatures of European civilians under the cover of human rights to disguise the MKO’s face.

False propaganda is absolutely one of the most important weapons used against the Iraqi government by the MKO. As it happened several months ago, some fanatic members of the group will commit suicide to instigate people’s emotions and then they will put the accusation on the Iraqi government for their killing and everything will take place by the side of building No.43 where the blood of murderers and innocents will mix. …

MKO status from the perspective of International Law

Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights describes a right to enjoy asylum as a fundamental right of human beings, which is a limited right (comes with exceptions), because the second paragraph of Article 14 limits the right to asylum by stipulating that "this right may not be invoked in the case of prosecutions genuinely arising from non-political crimes or from acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations."

The position of the International Law towards the refuge and refugees has changed from the very beginning of the UN foundation in 1945, after the end of the Second World War, with regard to the changes and developments of the international community.

One year after the foundation of United Nations, on December 1946, the General Assembly passed a resolution to establish “International Refugee Organization”. It was a temporary organization of the United Nations (UN), which itself had been founded in 1945, with a mandate to repatriate or resettle European refugees to their homeland. Those who had been immigrated or moved to other countries due to the outcomes of the war. International Refugee Organization (IRO) was dissolved in 1952 after resettling these individuals (about one million refugees).

Although human beings have been relieved of WWII, its consequences and postwar tribulations were being gradually appearing. Economic, political, and social conditions of most of the countries where such that a significant proportion of individuals who have been repatriated to their homeland by International Refugee Organization preferred to seek refuge in the countries other than their own. Therefore, on 10 December 1948, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the Article 14 of which is about the right to seek and enjoy asylum:

(1) Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.

(2) This right may not be invoked in the case of prosecutions genuinely arising from non-political crimes or from acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

After the dissolution of International Refugee Organization in 1950, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established to address the new problems.

Subsequently, in 1951, Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, and in 1967, its Additional Protocol was approved by the United Nations. Also in 1967, the General Assembly approved the Declaration on Territorial Asylum.

As mentioned previously, Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights describes a right to enjoy asylum as a fundamental right of human beings. This is a limited right (comes with exceptions), because the second paragraph of Article 14 limits the right to asylum.

Article 14(2) refers to “the purposes and principles of the United Nations” which are mentioned in the Charter of the United Nations paragraph 1 of Article 1, and the most important of which is “to maintain international peace and security”. It is of great importance that one of the chapters of the Charter (Chapter VII: Action with Respect to Threats to the Peace, Breaches of the Peace and Acts of Aggression) guarantees maintenance of international peace and security.

So we can say that the importance of maintenance of peace and international security is among the major priorities of the United Nations and the rest of its duties have to be implemented in a way that it does not being threatened.

With the resolution of the economic, political, and social crisis, above all lack of employment, the European and American countries gradually narrowed refugee admission, even though the number of asylum seekers soared.

The reaction of the countries was tightening rules on accepting refugees, e.g., coining the new term of ‘asylum seeker’ instead of ‘refugee’. To be brief, asylum seeker is a person who is seeking protection as a refugee and his/her refugee status has not yet been determined by the host country.

The most important issue and problem of the above definition from a legal perspective is that the right to asylum is an individual right; interpretation, expansion, or restriction of which has to be done along the lines of protecting the individual rights.

The term “Asylum seeker” as opposed to “refugee” actually restricts the people to fully enjoy a right as stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. So, separating asylum seekers and refugees explicitly violates the Article 14, Article 1 (equality), and Article 2 (non-discrimination) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

To solve the problem it is said that:

Although the right to asylum is an international right and is internationally confirmed, the practical identification and definition of that should be established separately by each country and with regard to the location and facilities of each of them.
Implementation of an individual/private right should not prevent that of public rights (the right to security, sovereignty, etc.). In a nutshell, private rights yield to public rights (Privatum commodum publico cedit).

As mentioned, since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights does not describe the right to asylum as an absolute one, the right to asylum should not preclude states from exercising sovereignty. As a result, governments with regard to their sovereignty and facilities have the right to accept asylum seekers or deny them.

At the present time, those governments which have a good reputation in accepting refugees have tightened rules and regulations, as compared to the past. In addition, they inform the UNHCR of the maximum number of refugees could be admitted by them, and they rarely accept more than the stated number. The discussion for legal grounds for such an action will be discussed in the second part of the article.

The current status and UNHCR’s approaches

As it is understood from the official documents of the organization known as Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/MKO) and its front organizations such as NCRI, residents of the Organization’s camps, which gathered in Camp New Iraq (formerly Camp Ashraf) when they surrendered camps to the US forces, had various motives for staying in MKO camps in Iraqi soil. Diversity of people and motives is too much. (page 19)

For example, National Council Magazine pages 17-56 (titled: ‘Mujahedin Prison’) Addendum 20 and 21 June and July 1986, which is written “Armed resistance: a report from behind the front lines, Manouchehr Hezarkhani” on the front cover. The author describes a visit to one the Organization’s camps.

The author claims that one of the camps of MKO in Iraqi Kurdistan “covers an area of 28000 square meters.” In addition to other sectors in the camp there are two additionally, quarantine and reception sections, which those who for whatever reason are willing to cooperate with MKO have to pass these two stages.

The author quotes the head of the camp as saying that the individuals are divided into seven groups:

Supporters who were away for a while.
Iranian soldiers fleeing the battlefront
The escapees whose final destination was Europe, but they have failed to fulfill their goals.
Affiliates of other opposition groups with urgent conditions (neither agree with their organizations nor with ours.)
Iranian fugitives from refugee camps in Iraq.
People who approach the camp due to their economic problems.
Recruits of the Organization “who do not tolerate our discipline, or do not agree with our political line or ideology.”(page 19)
MKO has had extensive and systematic efforts within the Iranian prisoner-of-war camps in Iraq, according to documents and Iranian POWs. We should add at least another item to the above list.

Residents of one of the foreign countries who have joined the MKO camps in Iraq on account of opposition to the government of Iran (ninth group).

Considering all the previously mentioned aspects, we should say that:

Firstly, if the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) duly interviews the members of the MKO in the camp one by one, should consider this classification.

Secondly, Iranian government claims to have documents and evidences revealing that some of the MKO members in Camp New Iraq are being prosecuted for non-political crimes. As mentioned in the very beginning of the article, such individuals do not have the right to enjoy refugee, relying on Article 14(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Thirdly, some of the MKO members have committed war crimes, especially breach of peace and security during the Iran-Iraq war, 1980-88. The MKO operation Foroughe Javidan (Eternal Light) against Iran is one of the most obvious breaches of International peace and security.

It seems to take so long for UNHCR to simply follow the mentioned classification, and it’s unlikely to succeed. Thus, the best option for UNHCR to expedite refugee status determination of MKO members in Iraq is to divide them into two groups:

Those who participated in the operations which breached the International peace and security.
Those who did not involve in such operations.
If the UNHCR admits the refugee of each of these individuals without considering their records and introduces them to one of the countries which accept refugees, then they commit some crimes against rules and regulations of the host country (such as self-immolation, spying against the host country, money laundering, organized crimes, etc.) the refugee processing system of UNHCR will be questioned. The achievements of two years of families picketing

As you know, an agreement has been struck between UNAMI, the Iraqi Government and the leaders of the Mojahedin Khalq Organisation according to which the camp should be evacuated by the end of year 2011.

Also, according to this agreement the deportation of Mojahedin Khalq will be delayed by another 6 months in which time the UNHCR would be able to register the residents and carry out individual interviews in preparation to transfer them to other countries.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, an initial 400 of the residents of Camp Ashraf are to be transferred to the former American Camp Liberty adjacent to Baghdad Airport, but to this day, 30th December 2011, the leaders of the Rajavi cult have rejected the planned transfer by bringing all sorts of reasons and excuses, clearly against the agreements accepted by the other two parties involved (UNAMI and the GOI).

Today it is clear to everyone that the leaders of the Rajavi cult like all similar cults anywhere in the world which use destructive mind control methods do not see themselves bound by their words or their signatures. It is now clear that they are more than anything else afraid that their forces (hostages) would run away during this transfer. Sooner or later, Rajavi will have to give up Ashraf garrison – which is situated on land illegally and forcefully confiscated by his benefactor Saddam Hussein where he built a military base which he later gifted to the Mojahedin Khalq. Sooner or later he will have to face the fact that the members will be deported from Iraq.

It is worth mentioning the continuous hard work of the families of the people trapped inside the camp who have stayed by the camp for the last two years and demanded their human rights from their base, which they call Freedom City, built adjacent to Camp Ashraf. They exposed the lies of Rajavi and they proved that the leader of the Mojahedin Khalq cult has no respect whatsoever for the people and the loved ones taken hostage inside the camp.

It is now clear to everyone that it is the fathers, mothers, children and spouses of the trapped people who represent the best interest of the hostages and not the leaders of the cult.

The agreement between all parties to sort out the problem of Camp Ashraf could not have been achieved without the hard work and the suffering of these families, especially during the last two years. They have worked flat out for the last two years in Freedom City, adjacent to Camp Ashraf for two years and intend to do so for as long as it takes. It is clear that even after the transfer of Rajavi’s hostages to a new location, the families will not rest until they achieve their minimum demand of private visits with their loved ones. The hope of reaching this goal is now greater and nearer than ever and the number of families is continually increasing in number. They have all decided to finish the quest that began two years ago and to not give up until they have achieved their simple humanitarian demand of ‘Right of Visits’ with their captured relatives.

SFF on behalf of the picketing families would like to extend its appreciation to all the survivors and ex-members, as well as human rights activists in Iraq, Iran and other countries who have been aiding and supporting the families and helping their voices be heard in the world.

With the hope that one day soon the goal of the freedom of every one of our loved ones takes the tiredness of all these years off our bodies.

Maryam Rajavi

Rajavi representes no one

After months of excruciatingly nit picking and slow negotiations to finally reach an agreement to peacefully and securely move the residents of Camp Ashraf to another safe facility in which their individual claims for refugee status and relocation can be worked out, Rajavi has (inevitably) come up with yet more excuses and stalling tactics to prevent any movement of residents from the camp.

Rajavi has been sidelined because neither she nor her husband, MEK leader Massoud Rajavi, actually represent the interests of the residents and are only interested in maintaining their cultist control over the camp’s residents. Moving the residents is the first step to these individuals regaining their rightful freedoms.

Because of this Rajavi is still trying to delay the inevitable by creating all kinds of outlandish excuses.[..]

Mujahedin: Holy Warriors or Dirty Traitors?

*Mujahedin-e-Khalq-e-Iran* is the Arabic term used to refer to a group called the People’s Mujahedin of Iran. The term *mujahedin* actually means holy warrior, and to take the definition a Mujahedin: Holy Warriors or Dirty Traitors? step further, it is this term which metaphorically submits to *jihad*, God’s struggle. For Muslims this is a righteous word, but since the attack of 9/11, it has become a rather notorious and widely misunderstood word to non-Muslims. The*Mujahedin-e-Khalq-e-Iran * (MKO/MEK) seemed to have passionate and noble intentions thirty years ago and they called themselves holy warriors with fervor. But now, they have transformed into a cult of personality and their holy warrior image no longer exists in the minds of the Iranian people. The MKO has inflicted so much damage on the Iranian people that instead of being known as holy warriors, their name, *The Mujahedin,* is synonymous with *traitor*.
Treason has always been part of the group’s strategy for struggle, and therefore remain a threat to the Iranian people. Now the MKO is supported by some United States politicians who know very well that their own United States government lists the MKO as a designated terrorist group—a group nonetheless who once despised and described the United States as imperialists, capitalists and Zionists. Dirty facts exist in the glossed over history of the MKO—one includes the murdering of American people, but that was thirty years ago.
Scott Shane of the *New York Times* describes the support for the MKO by US politicians as an “obscure cause” and notes it is a “stellar list of supporters from both parties and the last two administrations, including a dozen former top national security officials.” [1]

Shane furthers that “the M.E.K. advocacy campaign has included full-page newspaper advertisements identifying the group as ‘Iran’s Main Opposition’ — an absurd distortion in the view of most Iran specialists; leaders of Iran’s broad opposition, known as the Green Movement, have denounced the group.” [2]

The very group of Mujahedin-e-Khalq, the enemy of America’s enemy—definitely his friend—is an “anti-American, anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist” group, according to Professor Paul Sheldon Foote. He calls Massoud Rajavi, who is the disappeared leader of the group, the Pol Pot of Iran. [3]

Why is it that the very US government who had despised the MEK in its early years is now coming around to shake hands with them and become an ally?

According to Justin Raimondo of *antiwar.com* “the War Party is bound and determined to drag us, kicking and screaming, into a military conflict with Iran.” Raimondo asserts that the “nexus of this network is the government of Israel and its intelligence services which is coordinating an increasingly frantic campaign to bring the Iran issue to a head.”[4]

The true face of MKO is revealed in Israel’s recent acts of hostility against the Islamic Republic. In fact, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) aggressively lobbies US politicians to stand against Iran, and has announced that the MEK has potential as a proxy force against Iran. Raimondo warns that ”The Israel lobby is an octopus with many tentacles, of which MEK is merely one: they are all attached to the same body, however and that is the government of Israel and its intelligence services.” He further quips that the US is just another “Israeli occupied territory”. [5]

If there is a goal to destabilize Tehran, the MEK has become a potential tool for both the CIA and the Mossad. As the MEK feeds them misinformation the MEK gains ground in the intelligence arena, and likewise, as the CIA and Mossad continue to use the misinformation, the MEK becomes more of an ideal proxy. Paul Joseph Watson of *PrisonPlanet.com* writes that “it’s an admitted fact that the CIA uses terrorist proxies,” and “it is widely suspected that the well-known right-wing terrorist organization known as Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), once run by Saddam Hussein’s dreaded intelligence services, is now working exclusively for the CIA’s Directorate of Operations and carrying out remote bombings in Iran.”[6]

Following the explosion at an Islamic Revolutionary Guard’s missile base, west of Tehran, Israel’s Mossad was immediately accused and the Israeli government didn’t deny the accusations. Richard Silverstein, a correspondent of *Haaretz* suggests that it could have been the work of the MEK in a Mossad-led operation. Silverstein notes that it is “widely known within intelligence circles that the Israelis use the MEK for varied acts of espionage and terror ranging from fraudulent Iranian memos alleging work on nuclear trigger devices to assassinations of nuclear scientists and bombings of sensitive military installations.” [7]

The allegations about the MKO’s collaboration with western intelligence agencies were confirmed recently by an arrested Israeli spy, Mohammad Ali Lobnani who was arrested earlier this year in Lebanon. In a court hearing session, Lobnani said that he had phone contacts with Mohammad Alizadeh, an MKO ringleader, but claimed he didn’t know the number was a Mossad contact number, according to Fars News Agency. [9] Responding to a judge’s question about the link between the MKO and the Mossad, he noted, “as far as I know, the group [MKO] has been collaborating with Israel for several years and has massive interactions with the Mossad.”[8]

Western advocates of the MKO need to be aware of the group’s chameleon-like tendencies, because at some point the MKO will turn against the very ones who help them. Ultimately the MKO is a cult and the inner workings of the cult are kept secret from the various politicians they contract with to pursue their objective. Michael Rubin, an American scholar describes the MKO as a group who “sort of combined Islamism with Marxism, but it kind of just evolved into a freaky personality cult," and even warned that secretary of State, Hillary Clinton “should ignore their PR campaign.” Rubin cautions that the “Mujahedin Khalq is not only irrelevant to the cause of Iran’s democratic activities, but a totalitarian cult that will come back to haunt us.”[9]

Richard Silverstein also warns about consequences of lobbying for and working with a terror group like the MKO cult, pointing out that “It is, of course, ironic that the same MEK [which is trusted by Israel for its covert operations against Iran] is paying key political players in U.S. life hundreds of thousands of dollars to lobby on behalf of removing it from the Treasury Department terror list. I suppose when a terror group is harming your enemy then it’s no longer a terror group, eh? Certainly if there was another power than the Mossad willing to pay more for them to attack Israel and the U.S., guess who they’d be wreaking havoc on?” [10]
