Saddamists in Europe react to Anne Singleton’s visit to Camp New Iraq

The website (Iraq4allnews.dk) of the Saddamists in Europe have published a statement signed by their employed terrorist group NCRI (aka;Mojahedin Khalq, MKO, MEK, NCRI, Rajavi cult).

The reaction is again the threadbare allegation of attaching everyone to Iran. Reminding us of what Saddam Hussein used to say, that the Persians and Jews should be wiped off the face of the earth.

The reaction of the Saddamists comes after Anne Singleton produced evidence in Baghdad that the camp is the last untouched part of the Saddam regime’s suppressive infrastructure and that it is used to train, plan and support terrorist activities across Iraq in order to derail the process of democratisation in the country.

The New Iraqi Parliament voted to change this to remove the stars and to change the handwriting to the Kufi font.

Iraqi People Hate MKO for Criminal Record

Iraqi people, similar to the Iranians, hate the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) due to the numerous crimes committed by the terrorist group in both countries, Commander of Iran’s Basij (volunteer) Forces Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said.

"Fortunately, this criminal group has no opportunity and position among the Iraqi people (to revive itself) and Iraqis hate the group members for their crimes and their assistance to Saddam," Naqdi told FNA.

The commander further pointed to the Iraqi Army’s recent attacks against the strongholds of the MKO in Camp Ashraf in the Northern Diyala province, and reiterated that Iraq’s attitude towards the terrorist group is completely natural.

Iraqis hate the MKO much and the only reason for the presence of the group in Iraq is the US support for this terrorist cult, he added.

The MKO is today just a tool in the hands of the Americans who have been defeated by Iran and resort to any means to survive in the confrontation against Iran, he said and added, "Hence, the United States tries to make use of the terrorist group’s potentials to inflict damage on the Islamic Republic."

The US is dissatisfied with the Iraqi government’s stance and policy on the MKO, and has voiced opposition to the recent attacks by the Iraqi Army against the terrorist group’s stronghold near Baghdad.

The MKO alleged on Sunday that Iraqi forces had invaded the Camp Ashraf base, saying, "The forces of Iraq’s Fifth Division invaded Camp Ashraf with columns of armored vehicles, occupying areas inside the camp, since midnight on Saturday."

The Iraqi army denied the MKO’s accusation, underlining that no invasion or military advancement has occurred.

"It’s a replacement of forces, not a new deployment," Brigadier Tarek Azzawi, chief of military operations in Diyala province, North of Baghdad, told AFP.

"The Fifth Division in Diyala has replaced the Ninth Division that protects Ashraf, and we have not advanced even one meter (yard)," he said. "There were no clashes," he added.

Earlier, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) General Hossein Salami had underlined that the MKO which has committed numerous crimes against the Iranian nation should be dissolved immediately.

"The disarmament of the Monafeqin (i.e. Hypocrites, as MKO members are called in Iran) is not an important issue but the main issue is the existence of the group which should be dissolved," General Salami reiterated on Sunday.

The MKO has been in Iraq’s Diyala province since the 1980s.

Iraqi security forces took control of the training base of the MKO at Camp Ashraf – about 60km (37 miles) north of Baghdad – in 2009 and detained dozens of the members of the terrorist group.
The Iraqi authority also changed the name of the military center from Camp Ashraf to the Camp of New Iraq.

The group started assassination of the citizens and officials after the revolution in a bid to take control of the newly established Islamic Republic. It killed several of Iran’s new leaders in the early years after the revolution, including the then President, Mohammad Ali Rajayee, Prime Minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar and the Judiciary Chief, Mohammad Hossein Beheshti who were killed in bomb attacks by MKO members in 1981.

The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it was protected by Saddam Hussein and where it helped the Iraqi dictator suppress Shiite and Kurd uprisings in the country.

The terrorist group joined Saddam’s army during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) and helped Saddam and killed thousands of Iranian civilians and soldiers during the US-backed Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

Since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the group, which now adheres to a pro-free-market philosophy, has been strongly backed by neo-conservatives in the United States, who also argue for the MKO to be taken off the US terror list.

Economist: Saddam used MEK to crush Iraqi Kurds

The Economist replies to the MEK’s fallacious letter:

Allegations concerning the uprising of 1991 are currently being aired before Iraq’s High Tribunal, which has already heard the testimony of numerous victims who say they were targeted by the Mojahedin e-Khalq (MEK), the Persian abbreviation for the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI). Several arrest warrants have been issued on the basis of these testimonies.

Nibras Kadhimi, a scholar at the Hudson Institute who is a respected analyst of Iraqi affairs, has testified that the MEK was Saddam Hussein’s main force in recapturing the towns of Kifri and Kalar and their surrounding villages, as well as parts of Kirkuk, from the Iraqis rebelling against Saddam in 1991. There are many such documented testimonies in this regard.

Professor Raymond Tanter, a former member of the American National Security Council, wrote a paper in which he states: “Following their expulsion from Iran by Ayatollah Khomeini in the early 1980s, the MEK allied with Saddam Hussein and, in exchange for providing domestic security operations against Iraqi Shiites and Kurds, Saddam gave the MEK millions of dollars, protection, and bases along the Iranian border from which the MEK could launch their frequent attacks against the clerical regime.” The same allegation is made again in the US State Department’s “Patterns of Global Terrorism” published in 2002.

Wilfred Buchta, in his book “Who Rules Iran? The Structure of Power in the Islamic Republic”, states that the MEK received some $80m a month from Saddam between 1982 and 1990. One of Saddam’s senior generals, who had a hand in suppressing the uprisings, also stated that the MEK received $7m a month after 1990.

A New York Times correspondent in Iraq, Elizabeth Rubin, who visited Camp Ashraf, the MEK’s base in Iraq, and wrote an exhaustively researched article on it published on July 13th 2003, quoted Mariam Rajavi making the statement denied in the letter (published above) from the MEK’s supporters. She also wrote: “Everyone I spoke to—Iraq intelligence officers, Kurdish commanders and human rights groups—said that in 1991 Hussein used the Mujahideen and its tanks as advance forces to crush the Kurdish uprisings in the north and the Shia uprisings in the south.”

In her book ”Why does the west forget?”, Baroness Nicholson includes further testimony of the Marsh Arabs in southern Iraq, lending weight to the array of allegations against the MEK cited above. This was based on interviews she conducted during many visits to Iraq in the past 20 years.

The Saddam Oil Vouchers Affair and MKO

Introduction

On January 25, 2004, the Iraqi independent daily Al-Mada published a list of approximately 270 individuals and entities who were beneficiaries of Saddam Hussein’s oil vouchers. [1] The report The Saddam Oil Vouchers Affair and MKO evoked reactions from many of those included in the list as well as from the Arab media, among them apologists for Saddam’s regime. The fact that so many have opted for silence may give credence to the list’s authenticity.

A former undersecretary in the Iraqi Ministry of Petroleum, Abd Al-Saheb Salman Qutb, said that the ministry possesses documents proving the authenticity of the list published by Al-Mada. The list was originally the property of the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), which was responsible for marketing Iraqi petroleum. [2] Mr. Qutb also said that the ministry was collecting the information for submission to Interpol, which could then pursue the voucher beneficiaries. [3]

The Iraqi Governing Council has focused on 46 foreign individuals and organizations included on the lists, primarily from neighboring countries, to determine appropriate action. [4] Council member Muwwafaq Al-Rabi’i said during a visit to Beirut that the council has "tons of documents" but emphasized that the publication of these documents will be handled in a constructive way and not "for the sake of vengeance and revenge." [5]

In describing what it called "the curse of the Iraqi vouchers," the London Arabic-language daily Al-Hayat said that it expects more names and details to be made public in the near future and anticipates the revelation of a scandal of vast dimensions transcending countries and continents, implicating many prominent individuals and organizations. [6]
How It Worked: The Voucher Transactions Method

In a subsequent article, Al-Mada provides details on the allocation and sale of oil vouchers. In general, the vouchers were given either as gifts or as payment for goods imported into Iraq in violation of the U.N. sanctions. The voucher holder would normally tender the voucher to any one of the specialized companies operating in the United Arab Emirates for a commission which initially ranged from $0.25 to $0.30 per barrel, though it may have declined in later years to as little as $0.10 or even $0.05 per barrel because of oil surplus on the market. [7] In other words, a voucher for 1 million barrels would have translated into a quick profit of $250,000-300,000 on the high side and $50,000-100,000 on the low side – all paid in cash. According to Al-Mada, Jordan will seek to tax the illicit profits of citizens who benefited from the sale of the vouchers.

One of the common arguments by recipients of vouchers was that the vouchers paid for goods provided in the framework of the U.N.-administered Oil for Food program. However, under the Memorandum of Understanding governing the program, oil allocations were intended for "end users," meaning those with refineries. Most of the voucher recipients would be considered "non-end users." Moreover, if vouchers were used to pay for goods, it would suggest that these were not authorized by the program and should be considered illicit since all contracts approved by the U.N. were reimbursed from the trust account where the oil revenues were kept, at a French bank, at Iraq’s insistence. According to the United Nations: "The oil buyer had to pay the price approved by the Security Council Sanctions Committee into a U.N. escrow account, and the U.N. had to verify that the goods purchased by Iraq were indeed those allowed under the program. But the U.N. had no way of knowing what other transactions might be going on directly between the Iraqi government and the buyers and sellers." [8]

Dictators and Violence – Grim decision-making
In a guest post, a Middle East editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit, our sister organisation, examines the way in which dictators choose whether or not to use violence to stay in power.
Violence only works if it is overwhelming. Up to a critical point, civilian losses embolden protestors who will rally against the injustices they see in the loss of their comrades. If the losses are massive, and pass that point, protestors are likely to realise that the state means business and is here to stay. This was the case in 1991; as soon as Saddam Hussein was allowed to use helicopter gunships, he did. The magnitude of destruction was stratospheric and anybody seen as being remotely sympathetic to the uprising was punished. Even palm trees were destroyed (10m in Basra alone), and the Marshes were drained, ostensibly to stop rebel fighters from seeking refuge there, but undoubtedly also to punish the people seen by the state as being complicit in the uprising by destroying their livelihoods.

The need for a patronised inner coterie: Iraq taught us that magnitude of destruction has to be immense. Muammar Qaddafi’s rhetoric suggests he understands this and is willing to follow through. This will depend on the willingness of the army to follow his directives. Saddam did not have the army, but he did have a series of concentric circles of supporters loyal to him because of the patronage he extended them (special-forces units and tribes). He had tied their interests to his survival so successfully that they could not risk defecting. In the same way that Mr. Qaddafi has turned to foreign mercenaries, he could also rely on his own foreign legion, the Mojahid[in]-e-Khalq organisation whose divisions were used to fight both against the Kurds and the Shia down south (Mariam Rajavi, one of the group’s leaders, famously said "take the Kurds under your tanks and save your bullets for the Islamic Guard").

The need for a scapegoat. Iraqis in 1991, even the Shia, did not trust Iran. According to Kanan Makiya, an Iraqi academic in his book, "Cruelty and Silence", agents from the Iraqi state began to post pictures of Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, across the south. This allowed Saddam to frame the uprising as one orchestrated by Iran, not disgruntled Iraqis with real grievance against the regime. This idea gained traction and was key to maintaining support among the "White Provinces", the mainly Sunni areas to the north and west of the country that feared that an Iranian-style regime would replace Saddam, and that the new system would be inherently hostile to their community. These provinces remained loyal and formed the mainstay of Saddam’s support base throughout the uprising.

Supporters of the monarchy in Bahrain are painting the unrest as a Shia uprising to try to retain support of the country’s Sunni community (despite leading Sunni opposition MPs, including Munira Fakhro of Wa’ad, coming out in support of the protest movements). Similar tactics, but with an ethnic dimension, have been used in Jordan; King Abdullah sacked the Palestinian-born prime minister and replaced him with a Jordanian replacement. Part of the reason for the move is likely to play on the Palestinian/Jordanian rift within society and to shore up his Jordanian support base who are uneasy about Palestinian representation in the government.

The will to maintain power vs. the desire to pander to international public opinion: Libya went through years of sanctions and was an international pariah for decades. Mr Qaddafi would probably like to nurture friendly ties with Europe and the wider international community, but he will not do this at the expense of his own survival. Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s former president, crumbled under international pressure. This was part of the reason he could not use overwhelming force to maintain his grip (the apparent defection of the army played a part too). Mr. Qaddafi, like Saddam Hussein, probably cares less about external pressure because the damage has been done. He may feel he can go it alone, as he has in the past.

MKO’s Response to Tariq Aziz’s Death Sentence out of Character

The former Iraqi foreign minister, Tariq Aziz, who was also a close ally and personal advisor of Saddam Hussein, has recently been sentenced to death. A CNN report of the news states that he was “one of the best-known faces of the Iraqi government for more than two decades.” [1] But this well-known face was not known for his good deeds. The Iraqi tribunal had decided on a MKO’s Response to Tariq Aziz’s Death Sentence out of Character death sentence because of his crimes which include his role in eradicating rival political-religious parties while holding power during the Ba’athist regime. Aziz had been on trial in a long-running case in which he was accused of being part of a campaign of persecuting, killing and torturing members of the Shiite opposition and other banned parties. [2]

For the Shiite population especially, Aziz’s death sentence means a step toward justice, and the majority of Iranians would agree. But for the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), a bizarre Iranian opposition group led by self-appointed husband and wife, Massoud and Maryam Rajavi, news of Aziz’s sentence prompted a statement of condemnation. Tariq Aziz was both their friend and ally. Before Saddam Hussein bankrolled the MKO, Iranians remember clearly in 1983 when Massoud Rajavi signed a treasonous pact with Aziz—a pact which enabled the MKO to become heavily armed and shortly thereafter violently turn against their own countrymen. A detailed report on the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MKO) published by the US Department of State in 1994 points out how Massoud Rajavi’s alliance with Saddam Hussein’s Ba’athist Regime was formed while Iran was being invaded by Iraq during the 1980’s:

*In Paris; the non-Mojahedin members of the NCR encountered the autocratic style of Rajavi. In particular, Rajavi’s unilateral decision to tie the Council to Iraq alienated the others, who viewed the alliance as a traitor’s deed. The Council’s most important participant, former president Bani Sadr [sic], formally split in 1984, castigating Rajavi as "a pawning [sic] the settlement of the Iran-Iraq conflict." (Bani Sadr [sic] asserts that the first formal pact between the Mojahedin and Iraq was negotiated during a January 1983 meeting between Rajavi and Iraqi foreign minister Tariq Aziz in Fragce [sic]. Mojahedin publications also confirm this meeting.)* [3]

Rajavi’s seditious meeting with Tariq Aziz was the starting point of a long-lasting alliance with the former Iraqi dictatorship. The State Department report concludes that "government-controlled Iraqi media accounts of recent Saddam-Rajavi contacts provide further insight into the MKO’s current relationship with Baghdad. Meeting [sic] between the two are announced to buttress Saddam’s isolated position or to send a message to the government of Iran. For example: On July 31, 1994, Rajavi sent Saddam a ‘message of congratulations.’ On January 26, 1994, Rajavi met with Saddam and Tariq Aziz, Iraq’s deputy prime minister."[4]

The State Department’s conclusion regarding the association is confirmed by another source, the former Iranian president, Dr. Abulhassan Banisadr. Banisadr refers to Massoud Rajavi as a "power addict" in his interview with Pen Club’s representative, Muhammad Hussein Sobhani. During the interview, which took place in Farsi, Banisadr recalls the time Rajavi was planning to meet with Tariq Aziz:

*I told him [Rajavi] now that you accepted to visit him [Aziz], you should treat him the way our Iranian Emperor Shahpour the First treated the Roman Valerian. Our Emperor humiliated the invader to our country. He [Aziz] should’ve understood that he has invaded a country which has national pride.
I advised him [Rajavi]: You shouldn’t let the visit last more than half an hour.*

*He said, Ok, I will but instead of behaving like what he was supposed to, the meeting lasted five hours so that the following day Le Monde newspaper wrote that Mr. Tariq Aziz bought Mr. Rajavi or something like that […]. **After that visit, Rajavi’s behavior changed and changed. **[5]*

Tariq Aziz has been under a microscope for a number of years by justice seeking-Iranians, and accordingly the official report of his death sentence comes as a small victory. Many French citizens would agree. Aziz’s relationship with the MKO—whose European headquarters is located in Paris—has always been a political thorn for the French where the MKO is heavily scrutinized because of their cult mindset and their violent terrorist activities. Geoff Hutchison interviewed Amir Taheri, a French–Iranian affairs analyst, in June 2003 following the arrest of Maryam Rajavi and 160 other MKO members, who were located at the MKO compound in Ouver Sur d’Oise, Paris. After the arrest by French police, Taheri suggested two reasons for France’s decision on taking MKO terrorists into custody.

Taheri said that interior minister at the time, Nicolas Sarkozy, "is trying to appear very tough, especially against illegal immigrants and the Mujahedin have been running a racket of political asylum and so-on for many years. The second reason is that the presence of the Mujahedin in France was negotiated by Tariq Aziz, number two of Saddam Hussein in 1981, and now with the fall of the Iraqi regime there is no reason for the presence of the Mujahedin on French soil."[6]

The accounts of MKO activities are agreeably and accurately documented by the governments of France, the United States, and Iran. All have the same opinion that the noteworthy initial visit with the MKO’s Masoud Rajavi and Tariq Aziz signifies a precise turning point in the history of MKO endeavors. That meeting was the start of a long-term strategy in which Rajavi lassoed power and led the group into a bizarre existence as he became an autocratic ideological leader with a cult of personality. For Banisadr, who was one of the main founders of the National Council of Resistance, the meeting was fundamentally immoral. Banisadr points out in his interview that three basic principles, “independence, freedom and non-existence of hegemony” [7] were needed in order to generate positive results in the cause. Massoud Rajavi’s treasonous pact was a contradictory element for Banisadr and others because it violated the most important principles of the NCR. In taking part in this act of treason Rajavi dedicated the NCR’s capacity to act, and his warped vision led the MKO to become a mercenary force for Saddam Hussein. As Rajavi proceeded he rejected the integrity of the NCR, but more importantly, in doing so, he rejected the people of Iran. Rajavi cultivated and broadened hegemony over all the members of the NCR. Many groups did not agree with him and they were excluded. Eventually the NCR consisted only of MKO supporters. Other opposition groups simply left the organization, feeling tainted by the MKO.

Although it has been three decades since the MKO hijacked the National Council of Resistance, it still exists, and still the MKO assumes total control. The MKO is very tight-lipped about synonymy with the NCR and they would rather not disclose that the two are essentially under the same management. This is an important and little known reality for the masses in the West. What is surprising is that the Rajavis decided that the NCR needed to publicly lament the news of the Tariq Aziz’s death sentence. Their website states “the Iranian resistance strongly condemns the death sentence against Tariq Aziz." [8] The statement is a puzzling response from a group who, since the Iraq war started, has been trying to sanitize their image in the West. It’s highly conceivable that the statement is a part of a new strategy to justify the fact that they turned against Iran. Perhaps they are just taking advantage of the fact that the West is still largely unaware of the murderous atrocities the MKO committed against not only their own Iranian countrymen, but against Americans.

Mostly likely the MKO is seeking publicity and they want to make a statement in order to prepare for hitchhiking on the much-anticipated execution of Tariq Aziz. Whatever the case, the MKO knows the world will be watching. The power hungry MKO-controlled NCR has a plan up its sleeve, and it is not in the best interest of the people of Iran; it is for themselves. That much is for sure.

Collaboration between Egypt, Baath Party to Equip MKO

The popular debaathification movement in Iraq disclosed that Egypt’s intelligence service and the former Baath party in the Saddam-ruled Iraq ran clandestine cooperation to equip the anti-Iran terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) with advanced weapons to perform terrorist attacks against Iran.

According to a Saturday report released by the website of the Habilian Association, an Iran-based human rights group, the debaathification movement has announced that it has accurate and precise information on a relevant meeting between the former Baath MP, Saleh al-Matlak, and Egypt’s intelligence chief Omar Sulaiman.

During the meeting they decided that Matlak took the commanding responsibility of the Baathi forces in Egypt, and that both sides should make efforts to consolidate the relations between the MKO and the Baath party and create a joint operation room for controlling MKO activities in Iran and Iraq, the report said.

According to the report, the Egyptian side had also announced its readiness to establish a camp for the MKO near the Baath party’s camp in Egypt.

The two sides had also ratified to equip the MKO with advanced weapons and later did so, the report added.

The MKO is behind a slew of assassinations and bombings inside Iran, a number of EU parliamentarians said in a letter last year in which they slammed a British court decision to remove the MKO from the British terror list. The EU officials also added that the group has no public support within Iran because of their role in helping Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).

The group, founded in the 1960s, blended elements of Islamism and Stalinism and participated in the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran in 1979. Ahead of the revolution, the MKO conducted attacks and assassinations against both Iranian and Western targets.

The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it was protected by Saddam Hussein and where it helped the Iraqi dictator suppress Shiite and Kurd uprisings in the country.

The MKO has been in Iraq’s Diyala province since the 1980s.
Iraqi security forces took control of the training base of the MKO at Camp Ashraf – about 60km (37 miles) north of Baghdad – earlier this year and detained dozens of the members of the terrorist group.

The Iraqi authority also changed the name of the military center from Camp Ashraf to the Camp of New Iraq.

The first ostensible agreements were reached in the visit between Rajavi and Tariq Aziz, an opportunity to expand ties and to serve Saddam in return for his favors. It is worth knowing that Saddam gave priority to grant MKO’s demands and requests over all his plans and gradually this support was rapidly increasing in quality and quantity.

Rajavi’s flight to Iraq and the consequent meeting with Saddam and then with other Iraqi ranking officials followed with dollar allocations as well as granted military camp and logistics boosted a broad collaboration that lasted until the fall of Saddam. According to existing evidences, MKO received millions of dollars in Oil-for-Food program subsidies from Saddam from 1999 through 2003. In fact, the money that had to help Iraqi people survive was spent to guarantee the survival of a terrorist group to boost and support planning and executing further terrorist operations against the Iraqi and Iranian peoples.

There is no need to assert that the potential terrorists seek to expand their challenge if they receive abundant strengthening support. It was the case with MKO when settled in Iraq. Adhering to a hit-and-run strategy of armed struggle against the Iranian regime, Rajavi once more changed its tactic of overthrowing the regime emboldened by Saddam’s eye-caching aids. In less than a year, Rajavi had a National Liberation Army (NLA) under his command close to Iranian borders thoroughly armed and trained by Saddam. It was not hard to know where the costs of such an army came from.

The things have now greatly changed. There is no more a godfather to rely on but a nationally elected government that is determined to uproot terrorism and terrorists and to spend the country’s resources for their own real owners. There seems to be no rationale for allocating the very same food and fuel quota for terrorist MKO members residing in Camp Ashraf, but the Iraqi Government tries not to be tough for humanitarian causes. But, is the organization grateful?

According to MKO’s released reports, “since 2003, in accordance with a fuel rationing scheme for Iraqi citizens, Ashraf residents had a monthly quota for fuel and other products from the Iraqi Oil Ministry. They paid for and received their quota on a monthly basis”.

“Since the end of 2006, when Ashraf’s fuel quota was illegally cut off on the orders of the Iranian regime, Ashraf residents managed to obtain their required fuel primarily from outside Iraq and open market, facing enormous difficulties and paying several-times the previous prices. However, since July 2009, the Iraqi committee in charge of suppression of Ashraf has seriously hampered the entry of fuel into the camp, and has prevented all fuel entry completely since mid-October.”

The clime is mad at a time when the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Secretary General Special Representative for Iraq, and UNAMI are thoroughly informed of tasks and decisions concerning Ashraf residents. Never recanting for its hostile attitude towards two nations, MKO has adopted the tactic of showing as a martyr of injustice, a tactic that it believes works nicely when there is no effective advocate around to press the government as well as strengthening it in its atrocious, terrorist attitudes.

Salah al-Mutlak, the newly-banned Iraqi politician had an interview (in Arabic) in Sot al-Iraq (Voice of Iraq). Mutlak says the decision to exclude him from the March 7 parliamentary elections is political, designed to avoid what he calls a”sweep”by his Iraqi coalition. He calls the de-Ba’athification commission a”political body,”rather than a judicial body.

He says he has no involvement with the Ba’ath Party, but he defends what he calls the”oppressed”members of the Ba’ath party, and the Mujahedin-e Khalq, whose members residing in Camp Ashraf are waiting to be relocated to a desolated camp as decided by the Iraqi Government.

In answer to a question concerning his visiting camp Ashraf and contact with designated MKO he did not reject it and claimed it has had its impact on his exclusion by the involvement of Iranian regime: “Yes my visit to camp Ashraf affected Iran, and my relationship with MKO never change. They are real Mujahids and I will continue my contact with them and respect them and I think they are oppressed; and I am naturally standing with the oppressed. I stood with Shiite when wronged at a time, and I will stand with the oppressed regardless of being Ba’athists or MKO and whoever is at home or abroad”.

Iraq Finds Evidence of MKO’s Involvement in Public Massacre

Different Iraqi groups in a statement announced that they have found substantiating documents on the massacre of 25,000 Iraqis by the anti-Iran terrorist Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) during Saddam Hussein’s despotic rule over the country.

"In the documents found at Iraq’s intelligence ministry and other security offices after the toppling of Saddam, the leaders of the terrorist organization have announced that they slaughtered 25,000 Iraqi people on different occasions and over various issues," different Iraqi groups in the eastern province of Diyala said in a statement released to the country’s Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki.

Addressing the Iraqi government in their statement, the groups urged an immediate expulsion of the MKO members from their province and from the country.

The statement has been signed by various groups and people from different walks of life, including university professors, elites, tribal leaders, religious figures, artists, poets, sportsmen and sports federations, influential figures, students’ union and city councils of the Diyala province.

The MKO has been in Iraq’s Diyala province since the 1980s. The Iraqi government and parliament have also underlined on different occasions that they would not tolerate the group anymore and that they are seeking to expel the group from the country in the near future.

The anti-Iran terror group has been blacklisted as a terrorist organization by many international entities and countries.

The MKO is behind a slew of assassinations and bombings inside Iran, a number of EU parliamentarians said in a recent letter in which they slammed a British court decision to remove the MKO from the British terror list. The EU officials also added that the group has no public support within Iran because of their role in helping Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).

A May 2005 Human Rights Watch report accused the MKO of running prison camps in Iraq and committing human rights violations.

According to the Human Rights Watch report, the outlawed group puts defectors under torture and jail terms.

The group started assassination of the citizens and officials after the Islamic Revolution in Iran in a bid to take control of the newly established Islamic Republic. It killed several of Iran’s new leaders in the early years after the Revolution, including the then President Mohammad Ali Rajayee, Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar and Judiciary Chief Mohammad Hossein Beheshti who were killed in bomb attacks by MKO members in 1981.

The terrorist group joined Saddam’s army during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) and helped Saddam and killed thousands of Iranian civilians and soldiers during the US-backed Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

The MKO was put on the US terror list in 1997 by the then President, Bill Clinton, but since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the group has been strongly backed by the Washington Neocons, who also argue for the MKO to be taken off the US terror list.
