Government officials are advocating to clear the name of Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK, even releasing a number of PR adverts.

This could further strain relations between Washington and Tehran.

Beware of Violence Provocation by Mojahedin Khalq

Mr. Kobler is providing an advance warning of MKO’s potentiality in provoking and waging violence

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, has recently Beware of Violence Provocation by Mojahedin Khalq expressed his concern about the delay in the relocation of the residents of Camp New Iraq (Ashraf) to the Temporary Transit Location TTL. The relocation process has been stalled since the arrival of the fifth group of residents on 5 May. But it is not the delay and prolongation of the transfer that frets. What is really disturbing Mr. Kobler is a possible eruption of violence;

“I urge the remaining residents of Camp Ashraf to relocate to Camp Hurriya without delay. The relocation process should not be stalled. I am concerned that there will be violence if the relocation doesn’t recommence. Any violence would be unacceptable. I call on the Government of Iraq to avoid any forceful relocation. Each relocation must be voluntary. The United Nations supports only a peaceful, humanitarian solution and stands ready to facilitate.”

Mr. Kobler has a well understanding of the concerned sides, the Iraqi government and MKO, when he expresses his concern. The Iraqi government is ultimately decisive to close Camp Ashraf and expel the members of the designated terrorist group to the last one. It is a constitutional right for the state and the nation to be accomplished. But the other side is a cult with an ideology rooted in violence. MKO has no appreciation for art of peace and has never developed any skill in the field. In fact, the term peace and its derivations are unknown to it and the group has no definition for them in its literature. But when it comes to talk about blood, war, violence and the like, it is an unbeaten interpreter.

Obviously enough, except MKO, the UN, Iraqi government and all concerned bodies will to find a peaceful solution to the problem. It has been, from the very beginning, the antagonist side and the main impediment to the process of relocation. While there are hundreds of insiders with special needs, suffering from disabilities and serious medical conditions among the residents both in Ashraf and TTL, and of course it must be a responsibility on MKO to care about its members and follow a peaceful, humanitarian solution, not only it prevents the process but also threatens to stand ready for any violent confrontation.

Mr. Kobler’s words are a warning; he is sounding the alarm that MKO is already prepared for any violence. It is not a rough, personal calculation but based on facts. He is conscious of Rajavi’s instructions given to residents in his message delivered on May 23. In his message, Rajavi repeatedly calls the remainders of the group at Camp Ashraf the devoted warriors who have to be determined in repelling any resolution inconsistent with group’s demands:

“That would be better if they [the UN and Iraqi government] come in a peaceful fashion and accept the minimum human rights. Otherwise, if they resort to craft and deceptive words, do not grieve; go forward as God suffices you, He is the One Who helps you with that of the believers. … Then, do not be scared of the battle you have to confront, strike. Strike and go forward with confidence. … I want others to know, friends and foes, that today, the power of one thousand Mojahed is beyond that of the regime’s nuclear power they have gathered here in Iraq to negotiate about.“

Mr. Kobler is providing an advance warning of the group’s potentiality in provoking and waging violence. Unless precautionary measures are taken by the UN and the Iraqi government, there might be another human tragedy as occurred in two previous violence provocations by MKO.

Simple Answer to MKO’s Financial Resources Puzzle

It was about 3 months ago that US Treasury department appeared to begin an investigation to figure out the sources of payments offered to prominent former American officials over their speeches in support of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization . Americans are prohibited by law from doing business with designated terrorist groups.[1]

Besides, Security Council of the United Nations on September 28, 2001, issued Resolution 1373 calling on “all states to combat international terrorism". By resolution 1373 the council established a committee of the council "to monitor the resolution’s implementation and called an all States to report on actions they had taken to that end.”[2]

“the council also decided that States should prohibited their nationals and persons or entities in their territories from making funds, financial assets, economic resources, financial or other related services available to persons commit or attempt to commit, facilitate or participate in the commission of terrorist acts”, according to the resolution." States should also refrain from providing any form of support to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts; take the necessary steps to prevent the commission of terrorist acts, deny safe haven to those who finance, plan, support, commit terrorist acts and provide safe havens as well.”[3]

The resolution also calls on the states to intensify and accelerate the exchange of information regarding terror acts and forged or falsified documents made by terrorist groups. Thus, it doesn’t seem so difficult to figure out financial resources of the MKO if the US Treasury Department is truly concerned about them – and it must be concerned.

While the MKO’s spokesman Ali Safavi said the funds for the pro-MKO campaign come from Iranian Americans [4], there are various reports and testimonies on the group’s affluent resources.

According to the Guardian article, some US officials who suspect Safavi’s claim, say because of the amounts involved, money is coming from other sources, mostly likely Saudi Arabia and Israel.[5]

The report somehow confirms what former CIA official Philip Giraldi had previously revealed on the MKO-Israel relationship-both financial and military.”The group appear to have ample financial resources, and it is generally believed that at least some of the money comes from Mossad,” he writes.” the MEK is able to place full-page ads in major US newspapers and is also known to pay hefty speaker’s fees to major political figures who are willing to speak publicly on its behalf.”[6]

Justin Raimondo, the editor of antiwar.com finds it fair to ask where all this unaccounted for cash is coming from. "while the Rajavi-ites use the familiar methods employed by cults to strip their members of all their assets -see the AlJazeera video for a heart-rending account of how a major MEK spokesman ripped off his own elderly parents- it seems likely that, during their sojourn as Saddam Hussein’s favorite assassins, the MEK received compensation from the Iraqi dictator for slaughtering the Kurds and other regime opponents so efficiently and ruthlessly,” Raimondo asserts. He concludes that those former US officials are actually “recipients of Saddam’s gold.”[7]

It sounds that Saddam Hussein has been the group’s basic financial resource including funds illegally siphoned from the UN Oil-for-Food program until the fall of Iraqi dictator in 2003.[8] The report is confirmed by testimonies of former members of the group. Mrs. Maryam Sanjabi, a former member of the MKO’s elite council said that based on agreements held between MKO ringleaders and Iraq’s officials in 1987,saddam’s regime allocated the revenues gained from selling 50000 barrels per day of oil to the MEK in addition to arms and logistic, reported FNA.[9]

Sanjabi revealed that the group used to smuggle the Iraqi oil supplies to foreign markets after Kuwait war and the UN oil embargo against Saddam’s regime! the group used its front companies to sell Iraqi oil. Ali Hussein Nezhad who was Rajavi’s Private interpreter in the MKO, escaped the group in late April. Immediately after his defection, he published an announcement in which he denounces the “cult of Rajavi” . regarding the group’s financial resources, Hussein Nezhad writes:”As we see, Rajavi’s claims of Iranian’s financial support for the group and all his tricks in fundraising programs are shallow and just like a cover to hide the oil resources they plundered from Iraqi people; like a justification to whiten their multi-million operating cost.”[10]

He reveals facts of Saddam’s generosity towards Massoud Rajavi:”in his last visit with Saddam Hussein in August 2000, Rajavi asked Hussein to increase his oil share up to 100 thousand barrels a day (3 million barrels a month), according to documents and letters I translated or reports composed by his closest comrades that I could read.”

He explained how the MKO managed to turn Saddam’s gifts into dollars: ”Rajavi received his oil share in coupons which were then sent to Europe to be changed into dollars.”[11]
Rajavi’s quota from Iraqi oil also included other amounts of oil funneled to his cult by Saddam Hussein out of UN Oil for Food program, according to Hussein Nezhad.[12]
Naturally, the MKO revenue from oil resources was invested in European banks and industry, the former MKO member revealed.

Considering various reports and testimonies on the group’s financial resources, it actually seems simple to discover the origins of their funds. It won’t be so difficult to find the affiliated companies working with this terrorist designated group and definitely simple to prove the felony committed by their material supporters.

Relocation of Terrorist Group Troubling Iraqis

The United Nations envoy to Iraq said he is "concerned" that violence may break out if the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) continues defying its agreement with Iraq and the United Nations over its relocation to a new camp near Baghdad.

Under a December 25 deal between the UN and Iraq, around 3,400 members of the MKO (also known as the MEK, NCR and PMOI), which is the main armed opposition of the Islamic Republic, are to move from their long-time base of Camp Ashraf to a new location called Camp Liberty[TTL].

The aim of the deal is to eventually see the terrorists resettled outside Iraq.

"I urge the remaining residents of Camp Ashraf to relocate to Camp Hurriya (Liberty) without delay," UN envoy Martin Kobler said in a statement.

"The relocation process should not be stalled. I am concerned that there will be violence if the relocation doesn’t recommence."

The MKO has been reluctant to leave Camp Ashraf as no world country has yet accepted to let them in, even the US which now acts as the group’s main sponsor and protector.

The first group of the terrorists moved to Camp Liberty[TTL] on February 18, and the UN statement said that two-thirds of them have been moved.

Kobler also called on countries "to include (the terrorists) who are eligible for refugee status in their resettlement quotas" so they can be resettled outside Iraq.

The MKO, whose main stronghold is still in Iraq, is blacklisted by much of the international community, including the United States.

The group started assassination of the citizens and officials after the revolution in a bid to take control of the newly established Islamic Republic. It killed several of Iran’s new leaders in the early years after the revolution, including the then President, Mohammad Ali Rajayee, Prime Minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar and the Judiciary Chief, Mohammad Hossein Beheshti who were killed in bomb attacks by MKO members in 1981.

The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it was protected by Saddam Hussein and where it helped the Iraqi dictator suppress Shiite and Kurd uprisings in the country.

The terrorist group joined Saddam’s army during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) and helped Saddam and killed thousands of Iranian civilians and soldiers during the US-backed Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

MKO Tasks 2 Battalions to Stir Unrests in Syria

The terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO also known as the MEK, PMOI and NCR) has tasked 400 terrorists with stirring unrests in Syria, head of an Iran-based rights disclosed on MKO Tasks 2 Battalions to Stir Unrests in Syria Saturday.

According to Seyed Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad, secretary-general of the Habilian Association – a human rights group formed of the families of 17,000 Iranian terror victims – the revelation was made by a highly trusted MKO veteran who used to serve the MKO ringleader, Maryam Rajavi, as her highly confided interpreter in top secret sessions with former Iraqi regime officials and US authorities.

Hasheminejad said he had informed Syria of MKO’s meddling during a meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Tehran.

Hasheminejad had told the Syrian envoy late in May that MKO is preparing itself to stage a massive terrorist operation in Syria.

"We hold proof and authentic documents showing an extensive and all-round presence of this terrorist organization in Syria. This terrorist grouplet is using all its possibilities to stage terrorist and sabotage operations in Syria," he said at the time.

During the meeting, Hasheminejad told Syrian envoy that the MKO has been acting as a US mercenary ever since the fall of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein in 2003, and added, "The US and some western countries have been supporting all those terrorists who stage large-scale sabotage operations in Syria."

He reiterated the United States’ destructive role in recent developments in Syria, and said, "The MKO has even produced many video clips against President Bashar Assad on Syrian soil and has been distributing these clips among the people."

Watch out for MEK’s movements in Syria

Habilian Foundation Secretary-General warns Syrian officials against the activities of the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO, a.k.a. MEK and PMOI) on the Syrian soil.

“With regard to the black record of the terrorist group and their being frequently utilized for assassinations and massacres by former Iraq’s dictator, US and Israeli intelligence agencies, it is not inevitable that the group perpetrate terrorist acts on Syrian soil,” said Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad in an interview with the YJC reporter.

“Therefore, the Syrian authorities ought to be aware of the depth of the threat,” he added.

Son of late Hasheminejad explained that US Department of State announced last year that the terrorist group trained little girls for bombing attacks on pilgrims in Karbala.

Referring to the latest events in Syria, including the killings of civilians, Mohammad Javad Hasheminejad said, “The West seeks to destabilize the Syrian government by internal conflicts, murder and bloodshed and to inter the terrorist group into the scene for these purposes.”

“MKO’s media have strongly focused on the Syria and they are acting in accordance with the armed groups in the country.”

He went on to say that the MKO ringleader’s request regarding the settlement of their members along the Jordanian borders was in line with the meddling in Syrian affairs and supporting the armed groups in the country.

He also pointed to his meeting with the Syrian ambassador to Tehran and reiterated that the authorities of the country have to follow the issue, since the presence of the terrorist group in the region follows irreversible consequences.

US to delist MEK/MKO? Who cares

So the Wall St Journal shook up some people with a report that the US will soon delist the MEK as a terrorist organization.

Question: so what? I mean, apart from the fact that the listing was never really enforced anyway, what with MEK members still strutting around in the halls of Congress and paying large sums of money to various officials to campaign for them, nevermind the MEK spokesmen who show up on Fox and HuffingtonPost to peddle their propaganda… apart from all that, the fact is that no one in Iran really gives a damn what the US State Department’s opinion on the matter is anyway. Iranians hate the MEK not because it is on the State Department’s terrorist list but because of the historical actions and agenda of the MEK, which isn’t going to change no matter how many times it gets added or removed from any lists.

Anyway, Laura Rozen reports that the Wall St Journal article about delisting the MEK "blindsided" the Iran experts in Washington. I think the true explanation is this: Lets not forget that the Wall St Journal is part of the far-right (just read their editorial pages) in the US that doesn’t want to see a peaceful resolution of the US-Iran standoff, and like other far-right anti-Iran organizations, it has been trying to do its part to scuttle the Iran nuclear talks.

Secretly, I suspect that the regime in Iran is quite happy to see the US remove the MEK from the terrorist list. After all, the MEK is the best opposition that the IRI could hope for. I mean, if you’re going to have activists opposing you, what better that these discredited, hated, and cultlike activists can you find?

Nonsense date given by US for fixing Mojahedin status

The US decision on whether to remove the Mojahedin-e Khalq from the US terrorism list Nonsense date given by US for fixing Mojahedin status continues to be dragged out and will continue to be dragged for at least three more months, if not much longer.

The Wall Street Journal drew a lot of attention last week with a report that headlined that the State Department was “moving to remove” the group from the list of Foreign Terrorist organizations.

However, the explanation deep in the story did not day that at all. The article said that US officials had told the Journal Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will “make her final decision on the MeK’s status no less than 60 days after the last MeK member is relocated from Camp Ashraf” to the new site at Camp Hurriya near Baghdad.

That was a very odd formulation. Normally officials say they will make a decision no more than so many days or weeks in the future. The announcement that she will make the decision after no less than 60 days means the decision could be made in 100 days or 1,000 days or more. It means there is no deadline for a decision.

Clinton made a surprise announcement in February that she would take the Mojahedin’s willingness to cooperate in moving all their personnel from Ashraf to Hurriya into consideration when she decided whether to keep the Mojahedin on the terrorism list.

That was an odd posture since the only legal basis for keeping a group on the terrorism list is that it is terrorist. If the Mojahedin-e Khalq meets that threshold, it should be kept on the list regardless of whether it moves its people to Hurriya. And if it is not a terrorist organization, then it ought to be removed from the list even if it is fully cooperative in making the move.

Clinton said the group’s “cooperation in the successful and peaceful close of Camp Ashraf Ö will be a key factor in any decision” regarding its status as a terrorist organization. She didn’t say it would be the conclusive factor in the decision, just “a key factor.”

Combining that vague statement with the “no less than 60 days” time frame means there is really nothing there—no hint of what decision may be taken or when.

Back in July 2010, a federal appeals court ruled that the Mojahedin-e Khalq had not been treated fairly by the State Department when it was listed as a terrorist organization.

The court did not, however, order the Mojahedin-e Khalq de-listed. It simply said that the State Department had to go through the review process all over again and give the organization the full opportunity to defend itself.

The Mojahedin were first declared to be a terrorist group in 1997 and it has been re-designated as terrorist three times since then. Each time, the Mojahedin-e Khalq went to court and each time the courts said the State Department failed to recognize the group’s rights under the law. Each time the courts ordered the State Department to go through the review procedure again. And each time, at least up until now, the State Department has once again certified the Mojahedin as terrorist. It is that third review process that is now underway—and that has been underway for almost two years now.

The US Circuit Court of Appeals based in the District of Columbia declined to review the substance of the State Department listing in 2010. It simply dealt with process and ruled that the State Department “failed to accord the [Mojahedin] the due process protections outlined in our previous decisions.” It said the Mojahedin-e Khalq should remain listed as a terrorist group unless and until the State Department changed its position after reviewing the case file.

The basic issue that concerned the court was that the State Department notified the Mojahedin of its latest listing only after making its final decision. But the three judges unanimously ruled that the State Department had to notify the Mojahedin of the unclassified evidence it was using to list the group as terrorist and give the group a chance to rebut the evidence before it could publish a final ruling. “This did not happen,” the court said. “That deprived [the Mojahedin] of the of the due process protections detailed in our previous decisions.”

The Mojahedin had argued that its designation should be revoked because everything had changed in 2003 when it turned its weapons over to the US Army and all its members at Camp Ashraf in Iraq signed a document rejecting violence and terror.

The court decision carried a long footnote listing some of the damaging information the State Department said it had gathered about the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) in recent years: “The MEK trained females at Camp Ashraf in Iraq to perform suicide attacks in Karbala;” “the MEK solicits money under the false pretext of humanitarian aid to the Iranian people;” “an August 2008 US Intelligence Community Terrorist Threat Assessment clearly states that the MEK retains a limited capability to engage in terrorist activity or terrorism;” the MEK “publicly renounced violence in 2001, but limited intelligence reporting indicates that the group has not ended military operations, repudiated violence, or completely or voluntarily disarmed;” the intelligence community “assesses that although there has not been a confirmed terrorist attack by the MEK since the organization surrendered to Coalition Forces in 2003, the MEK retains a limited capability and the intent to use violence to achieve its political goals;” and “UN inspectors say that much of the information provided to the UN by the MEK about Iran’s nuclear program has a political purpose and has been wrong.”

The court said that when the State Department reports to the court on the latest review, it must say what allegations it considers credible and is relying on for its designation of the Mojahedin as terrorist.

New reports in 2009 said that the State Department’s top counter-terrorism official at the time, Dell Dailey, had wanted to drop the Mojahedin from the terrorism list but was overruled by superiors.

MKO Planning Massive Terrorist Operation in Syria

Informed sources revealed on Monday that the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO also known as the MEK, PMOI and NCR) is preparing itself to stage a massive terrorist operation in Syria. Three more Mojahedin Khalq members flee Camp liberty today

Hasheminejad reminded that the MKO has been acting as a US mercenary ever since the fall of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein in 2003, and added, "The US and some western countries have been supporting all those terrorists who stage large-scale sabotage operations in Syria."

He reminded the MKO’s aid and assistance to Saddam Hussein in quelling the Shiite and Kurd uprisings in Iraq in the 1990s, and said in the last few years Habilian has held meetings with tens of Iraqi groups and presented them with authentic documents proving MKO’s direct role in the massacre of the Kurds and Shiites in Iraq under Saddam.

"As we presented such substantiating information and documents to the Iraqi government officials, we will present you with documents and proof about the Hypocrites (as the MKO members are called in Iran) meddling in Syria," he said.

The MKO’s main stronghold was a training center called Camp Ashraf in Iraq’s Northern Diyala province, but the post-Saddam Iraq decided to close the camp specially due to the MKO’s massacre of Iraqi Shiites during the Saddam era and its terrorist operations against Iran in the last 33 years. Iraq started expelling the group a few months ago.

The MKO is seeking to transfer its members to another country, but no world state, including the US and the European countries, accept to lodge the terrorist group.

To date, almost 1200 MKO terrorists have been transferred from Camp Ashraf to Camp Liberty which lies Northeast of the Baghdad International Airport, in three groups of 400 each, on February 18, 8, and March 20. About 2,000 members still remain in Camp Ashraf. Camp Liberty is a transient settlement facility and a last station for the MKO in Iraq.

The MKO cannot find a shelter outside Iraq because it is blacklisted by much of the international community, including the United States.

Before an overture by the EU, the MKO was on the European Union’s list of terrorist organizations subject to an EU-wide assets freeze. Yet, the MKO puppet leader, Maryam Rajavi, who has residency in France, regularly visited Brussels and despite the ban enjoyed full freedom in Europe.

The MKO is behind a slew of assassinations and bombings inside Iran, a number of EU parliamentarians said in a recent letter in which they slammed a British court decision to remove the MKO from the British terror list. The EU officials also added that the group has no public support within Iran because of their role in helping Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).

Many of the MKO members abandoned the terrorist organization while most of those still remaining in Camp Ashraf are said to be willing to quit but are under pressure and torture not to do so.

A May 2005 Human Rights Watch report accused the MKO of running prison camps in Iraq and committing human rights violations.

According to the Human Rights Watch report, the outlawed group puts defectors under torture and jail terms.

The group, founded in the 1960s, blended elements of Islamism and Stalinism and participated in the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran in 1979. Ahead of the revolution, the MKO conducted attacks and assassinations against both Iranian and Western targets.

Leaders of the group have been fighting to shed its terrorist tag after a series of bloody anti-Western attacks in the 1970s, and nearly 30 years of violent struggle against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In recent years, high-ranking MKO members have been lobbying governments around the world in the hope of acknowledgement as a legitimate opposition group.

The UK initiative, however, prompted the European Union to establish relations with the exiled organization now based in Paris. The European Court of First Instance threw its weight behind the MKO in December and annulled its previous decision to freeze its funds.

The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it was protected by Saddam Hussein and where it helped the Iraqi dictator suppress Shiite and Kurd uprisings in the country.

Since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the group, which now adheres to a pro-free-market philosophy, has been strongly backed by neo-conservatives in the United States, who also argue for the MKO to be taken off the US terror list.

“The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend”…US to Remove MEK from Terrorist List?

If asked to name a terrorist organization most Americans could likely name Al Qaeda, Al Shabbab, and a few others. Few are probably familiar with the Mujahedin-e Khalq or Peoples Mujaheddin of Iran known by its initials MEK. Accused of killing American servicemen and contractors in the 1970s and supporting the takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran before breaking with the Iranian mullahs in 1980 the MEK has been designated a terrorist group by the “The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend”…US to Remove MEK from Terrorist List? US State Department since 1995. The MEK, however do not simply attack Americans. According to The American Muslim: “The M.E.K. are terrorists. They were driven out of Iran and given a home at a place called Camp Ashraf in Iraq by Saddam Hussein, who they supported. Saddam Hussein used the M.E.K. to carry out terrorist acts in Iran.” In 2001, the MEK “renounced” terrorism. Irrespective of this renunciation, a 2004 FBI report on the MEK which was revealed in June 2011 states that the MEK The long and short is that the MEK are current terrorists not former terrorists. So why would the US consider removing the designation from the group?
Many people are likely familiar with some of the more recent activities of the MEK. The MEK is responsible for assassination of 5 Iranian nuclear scientists since 2007 and possibly destroyed a missile site. Trained, financed and supported by Isreal, the MEK has been used to disrupt the Iranian nuclear operations causing a delay of years to Iran’s objective of creating a nuclear weapon. In March 2012 Richard Engel & Robert Windrem of NBC News reported that:

“Deadly attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists are being carried out by an Iranian dissident group that is financed, trained and armed by Israel’s secret service, U.S. officials tell NBC News, confirming charges leveled by Iran’s leaders.” And then “”… Two senior U.S. officials confirmed for NBC News the MEK’s role in the assassinations, with one senior official saying, “All your inclinations are correct.” A third official would not confirm or deny the relationship, saying only, “It hasn’t been clearly confirmed yet.” All the officials denied any U.S. involvement in the assassinations.”"

It is certainly interesting that a terrorist organization that is now taking action which supports the US’ agenda may suddenly be reclassified as not being a terrorist organization. This post is not intended to question the validity of the decision simply educate and highlight the point that in world politics “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.
