Nejat Society’s Announcement No.4

The statement of National Council of Resistance the front organization of PMOI issued an announcement on Act.6th 2008, considering the will of Iraqi nation to take the control of the base of terrorist cult of Rajavi, as a lie claiming it to be a plot against MKO. NCRI secretariat noted that Nejat Society forces the families to travel to Iraq and ask for the release of their children from Camp Ashraf.

It’s obvious that all the activities and the presence of the families at Nejat Society are aimed to the release of their children from Camp Ashraf and the efforts and interactions have terrified the destructive cult of Rajavi. The families, who wait for the freedom of their children and the removal of Camp Ashraf, accepted the risk of the threat posed by the jailers of cult.

Masud Rajavi the leader of the destructive MKO cult must know that a large number of families have registered in the offices of Nejat ngo all over the country to travel to Iraq as soon as possible to provide the facilities for the rescue of their children from terrorist cult of Rajavi.

A large number of the families’ letters have been mailed to the offices of International Committee of Red Cross and Iraqi Embassy in Tehran and the Iraqi government.

The Nejat Society and families are well aware that MKO had tied its life with Saddam’s dictatorship analytically and strategically. After the fall of Saddam Hussein and the lack of the dictator’s support for MEK, everyday you are witnessing the decline of the cult and the breakdown of the internal relations in it. The presence of a terrorist organization with the background of massacre of Iraqi Kurds in the North and Iraqi Shiites in the South and a disastrous file of cooperation with Saddam Hussein ended with the approval of the No.214 ruling by Iraqi government.

The undeniable decision of Iraqi government terrified the cult so seriously that it tries hard to lobby some uninformed or self-interested parties in the West, spending large amounts of money to gather signatures or approval against Iraqi ruling.

The declining condition of MKO actually led the parents to be concerned about their children’s life and the occurence of a human disaster against the deceived members of the cult.

Nejat Society believes in the right for the mentally and physically captured individuals of Camp Ashraf to ask the ICRC and the Refugee Affairs Commission to provide the condition to choose either a third country or Iran to live a normal life.

According to the reports the mental and physical condition of the victims in Camp of terrorist cult of Rajavi is so crucial. They need emergency help of RC in the Camp and the necessary treatments for the patient members who are in the hospitals outside the Camp.

The execution of the rulings of Iraqi government and the release of beloved ones of the cult’s prison, are the request of the majority of the residents of Camp Ashraf .

Cloaking conversion of ranking members of PMOI

Errors of a cult leader; cloaking conversion of ranking members

Of the major strategic mistakes made by Rajavi is his issued order to conceal a number of the group members’ conversion to Marxism. Additionally, as underlined by eye witnesses and prison-mates, Rajavi himself has confessed to have been converted to Marxism but desisted to declare it to prevent negative consequences. A big bulk of deviation within the organization, at least after its schism in 1975, may be pertained to its adoption of a divisive and dual policy. Rajavi’s strategic turnabout may be the very same reason compelling him to insist on concealing the conversion of other members like Bahman Bazargani. Had Rajavi been a Muslim, he would not have allowed Marxist members like Bahman Bazargani to have their hold on the organization and, above all, ask them to show as true Muslim who even stood as others’ prayer leaders.

Many of Marxist members wanted to announce their strategic turnabout even before the declaration of Marxist wing manifesto. There are many statements made by imprisoned Mojahedin in this regard some of which may be mentioned here. All of them focus on Rajavi refusing to reveal the identity of Marxist members as well as his own conversion from Islam to Marxism. It has to be pointed out that the formation of Marxist wing of Mojahedin has its roots in 1971 mass arrests. Marxist members justified that  religious inclination rooted in Mojahedin was the reason they restricted them to make due decision in some events such kidnapping prince Shahram, Shah’s nephew. They further pointed out that ethical and ideological bonds of Mojahedin to Islamic rituals like that of saying daily prayers and the like reduced their organizational freedom. Finally they concluded that religion was the source of external challenges the organization was faced with so they had to fight against whatever hindering ethical and religious considerations.

One of the early activists of MKO, Mohammad Mehdi Jafari, collects his observations in a book called “An internal look at MKO”. Although many members are referred to in his statements, but the main focus is on Rajavi having the leading role in the organization’s dualistic relations. He believes that a number of members like Rajavi who joined the organization after its formation were Marxist. Though he refers not directly to Marxist leaning of Rajavi and other members, but expounding on such matters like stopping saying prayers and being highly affected by philosophy of Marxism confirms that they walked on an anti-religion path.  In this regard, he writes:

Those who joined the organization later on, such as Masoud Rajavi, Musa Khiabani, etc never declared overtly to be Marxist and even pretended to be anti-Marxism; however, they were so influenced by Marxism that legitimized some forbidden actions in Islam. For example, they asked some members not express publicly their Marxist conversion and to pretend performing daily rituals. 1

He further refers to some points affirmed by other former members too such as Bahman Bazargani’s conversion to Marxism and Rajavi’s refusal to reveal it. This action resulted in the development of ideological discord within MKO. In this regard, it is said:

It is said that Masoud Rajavi knew Bahman Bazargani was no longer Muslim but a Marxist and communist. He advised Bazargani to continue to say his prayers and also lead others’ prayer to conceal his conversion. 2

Dr. Karim Rastegar, an early member of MKO, believes that many years before the schism of Marxism wing, a number of members in Qasr prison had already adopted Marxist ideology. He refers to Masoud Rajavi among other members and writes:

In late 1971, I was sent to cell number 3 in Qasr prison. Many MKO high-ranking members like Reza Bakeri, Bahman Bazargani, Mehdi Khosroshahi, Musa Khiabani, and Masoud Rajavi were there. There were heated ideological discussions there and some members expressed their beliefs. In other word, they said that they no longer believed in Islam and were Marxist. 3

He also adds that one of the interrogators of SAVAK (Pahlavi’s regime’s security and intelligence organization) was well aware that Rajavi was a Marxist and called him a Marxist in front of others:

One night Rasouli, a SAVAK interrogator, came to our cell. As usual, every one was silent and motionless. He told me “stand over there Osqof”. I knew this name was not recorded in my dossier and wondered how he had come to know that. Then he addressed Masoud Rajavi calling him a damned communist. Then he told Rajavi “we know you are all Marxist”. We did not understand what he meant by that. It happened coincident with the arrest of Khalil Dezfuli through whom the information had been leaked to SAVAK. But we did not know that. 4

He also considers Rajavi to be more at fault than Taqi Shahram (the guerrilla fighter blamed for the organization’s 1975 schism) in the organizational schism:

I think Rajavi was more responsible for this adversity than Shahram since Shahram was performing his evolutionary responsibility in cleansing members’ mind off the bourgeoisie thoughts, but Rajavi, playing a pro-Islamist, endorsed the rupture by keeping silent. In fact he betrayed his own ideology. 5

Lotfollah Meisami, being Rajavi’s intimate in prison and team-houses, is a reliable witness who can well disclos aspects of Rajavi’s dual behavior. He explains the causes behind the ideological shift of the organization and the passive role some members like Rajavi’s played in unveiling the identity of Marxist members:

Bahman Bazargani had already talked about his ideological problems with Masoud Rajavi, Musa Khiabani, and some other members saying that he was no longer a Muslim and could not perform related rituals since he considered it to be an act of insincerity. Masoud Rajavi asked him to say his prayers for three more years and to cease talking about it further. Interestingly, he was forced to lead others’ prayers too. Zein-al Abedin Haqani told me parts of the fact when I was sent to the prison in Shiraz, Bahram told me all about it after I was set free. 6

He points out that in spring 1975 in Qasr prison, Parviz Yaqubi was asked to try Rajavi for his refusal to reveal the beliefs of Marxist members.

In 1974, I was arrested for the third time. Losing the sight of my eye and being in solitary confinement for 16 months, I was sent to Qasr prison. There I met Parviz Yaqubi and told him to try Masoud since if in Qasr prison he informed us that Bahman was a Marxist, we would try to find a solution. He should not have made such a mistake. 7

Rajavi asked Bazargani to hide his ideological turnabout for three yeas. The reason might have been an attempt by Rajavi to hang on an opportunity to announce the organization’s total ideological shift to Marxism. Although there is no clear reason why Rajavi insisted on disguising the ideological identity of members, however, he was well aware of the fact that religious beliefs could secure social support for the organization without which it could never survive. Furthermore, he knew that improvement of any organizational doctrine depended on restoration of Islamic values and putting Marxist ideology into discard. Therefore, he hides members’ as well as his own Marxist conversion.  Now the question is whether Rajavi did so to keep the integration of the organization and prevent its split or he was concerned about his own organizational status and hegemonic rule. A brief look at the evidences on Rajavi’s narcissism well answers this question. Therefore, such events can not be ignored easily as accidentally made mistakes of Rajavi.

The cult of Rajavi

Organisational Divorces within PMOI

Margaret Thaler Singer in her book entitled “Cults among Us” states the following regarding the position of cults on the family issues:

“The cults, using extremist ideas based on their ideology to upraise their members against their families. This is both to separate members from their families and to train them on how to obey the irrational orders of the cult.”

The MKO’s leadership consists of the husband and wife team of Masoud and organizational divorcesMaryam Rajavi. Their marriage in 1985 was hailed by the leadership of the organisation as the beginning of an “ideological revolution.” Before this marriage, Maryam was the wife of Mahdi Abrishamchi, deputy to Masoud Rajavi. Various phases of this “revolution” included: divorce by decree of married couples, regular writings of self-criticism reports, renunciation of sexuality, and absolute mental and physical dedication to the leadership.

In 2005, the international NGO Human Rights Watch released a report on the issue of human rights violations in MKO camps, where on the issue of ideological revolution, it stated:

“The leadership of MKO asked all its members to undertake their own “ideological revolution” by identifying their personal shortcomings in self-criticism sessions.”

Quoting from Mojahed:

“In order to carry out your organisational duties under the present circumstances there is an urgent need to strengthen and deepen this ideological revolution. You must pay the necessary price by allocating sufficient time and resources for absorbing related teachings…Be certain that your deep belief in the novel leadership of the new democratic revolution of the heroic Iranian people, meaning Masoud and Maryam Rajavi, ….you will be able to correct your work habits and be able to deal with and resolve personal, organisational, and military difficulties.”

The Social Division of MKO also issued a directive to the members initiating the self-criticism tradition within the organisation:

“To understand this great revolution…is to understand and gain a deep insight into the greatness of our new leadership, meaning the leadership of Masoud and Maryam. It is to believe in them as well as to show ideological and revolutionary obedience to them…”

Ideological revolution which was proclaimed by the leadership of the sect, Masoud and Maryam, did not end here. After the defeat of this group in its terrorist operations, including the operation dubbed as “Eternal Light” , the leadership in order to cover up its own weaknesses and failed strategy, declared that the reason for the weaknesses of MKO forces was the lack of devotion and in order to remove this deficiency, it declared a series of ideological revolutions and required from the members to cut themselves from all the physical and psychological attachments in order to increase their capabilities to combat the enemy. Masoud Banisadr reports how this process unfolded during an “ideological meeting for executive and high ranking members” following MKO’s defeat in Iran:

“The first thing I was required to do in Baghdad was to watch a videotape of an ideological meeting for executive and high-ranking members…there was a buffer between ourselves and him [Rajavi] … which prevented us from seeing him clearly. This “buffer” was our weakness. If we could recognize that, we would see why and how we had failed in Operation Forogh [Eternal Light] and elsewhere. Masoud and Maryam had no doubt that the buffer was in all our cases our existing spouse.”

“The organisation’s order for “mass divorce” caused much mental anguish and confusion. Even poor single people were required to divorce their buffers, having no idea whom that meant; apparently the answer was to divorce all women or men for whom they harboured any feelings of love. Only later did I realize the organisation demanded not only a legal divorce but also an emotional or “ideological” divorce. I would have to divorce Anna [My wife] in my heart. Indeed I would have to learn to hate her as the buffer standing between our leader and myself. Rajavi announced at the meeting that as our “ideological leader” he had ordered mass divorce from our spouses. He asked everyone to hand over our rings if we had not already done so. That meeting was the strangest and most repugnant I had ever attended.”

In the definition that is provided in the book “Cults among Us” it states:

“The cults, using extremist ideas based on their ideology up rise their members against their fam-ilies. This is both to separate members from their families and to train them how to obey the irra-tional orders of the leader of the cult. The sects that are active under the cover of religion, teach their members to consider those outside their sect, even their relatives as Satan and therefore they should avoid them to the extent possible”

In this connection we draw your attention to the response provided by a former member of the group named Hura Shalchi who was herself at a time at the service of this group and who sent the response in answer to her sisters who are still captives at the hands of this terrorist group:

“…Before anything else I should say how happy I am to see the picture of you three dear and lovely sisters after 5 years. While I was in MKO, under whatever pretexts, they did not allow us to meet each in private. We were able only to see each under with the presence of the com-manders and not exceeding more than one hour. I am also very much happy that this interview was a reason for you three dear sisters to sit together despite the opposition of MKO. I know very well that you can see each other to share your sisterly sentiments very rarely. Because, principally speaking, Rajavi is a great impediment to any manifestation of sentiments.  I will never forget that he opened my letter addressed to my daughter at the age of less than 6 years and never allowed that to be posted to Iran. I know very well that whatever you say or have been told before all have been under pressure. For this reason I have not been and would not be upset from you at all. It is a trick played by MKO all the time to put the family members at odd towards one another. They want to turn the criticism towards them to family disputes so that they are not obliged to be answerable to real criticisms.”

According to BBC’s Newsnight programme, Abbas Sadeegi Najad a former MKO member talks about how he was manipulated by MKO about his family. He mentions that MKO lied about his family in order to cut his ties with his family, they said that his wife and newborn daughter died. Meantime his wife was also informed that he was killed by the Iranian government when he was escaping the country. In addition he gives account of detailed torture session that was performed against him by MKO members in the camps located in Iraq.

Human Rights Abuse in the MEK

The Ideal Summit

Mujahedin Khalq makes  women unfertile

According to the foreign policy reporter of Fars News Agency, following the disclosing speech of Nassrin (Batoul) Ebrahimi, an ex-member of MKO’s leadership council , in European Parliament ,based on the execution of an operation called “ Ideal Summit” through which the PMOI makes the women members barren:

An ex-member of Leadership Council of PMOI who was released of Ashraf base this years, stated new facts on the way the organization makes the women in the cult unfertile.

The “Ideal Summit” was executed following the two decades that the organization has been forcing the couples to divorce. The inhumane activities of Mujahedin Khalq were encountered by Human Rights Watch that condemned the anti-human right acts of the cult.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization, during its “Ideal Summit” operation, has made at least 150 women barren. The operation is done by a doctor named Nafiseh Badamchi, a medcine of MKO, by hysterectomy surgery.

The Ideal Summit operation is a phase that any woman in MKO has to bear in order to get linked with Maryam and Masud Rajavi.

Batul SoltaniNasrin Ebrahimi, nicknamed Batoul, who was a member of the leadership council of Mujahedin –e – Khalq and National Council of Resistance, refused to have the surgery and finally was fired by the organization.

Batoul Soltani, another former member of the Leadership Council of MKO who was based in Camp Ashraf told NPR, the governmental Radio of the US, about the other dimensions of this disastrous operation.

Soltani has had interviews with 20 journals and media around the world and discussed the execution of Ideal Summit, describing the method Nafiseh Badamchi used to do the operation.

MEK Camp Ashraf

Avoid the disaster

Now that the US administration has handed over the protection of Camp Ashraf where the MKO militants are based, to Iraqi government, Mujahedin’s protestation continues seriously asking for the continuance of the Camp’sFarrokh Negahdar activities. They used all their forces lobbying in the Europe and America to guarantee the right to remain active in Iraq “under the international supervision”. They have always spoken of “Ashraf City “as their largest remaining hope to make a democratic change in Iran.

A large number of evidences show that the hand over of Camp Ashraf to Iraqi government is a part of an inevitable approach which would happen later or sooner. But MEK has a different vision on Iraqi matters and US-Iran relations. MKO’s insistence and attempts to maintain Camp Ashraf and continue their organized presence in Iraq are based on the following accounts:

They think that the security issue in Iraq will not be improved.

In MKO’s opinion the regime of Iran is absolutely opposing the improvement of security in Iraq and its involvement in Iraqi affairs will surely continue.

They suppose that Iran will absolutely continue its nuclear program to achieve the nuclear weapon, so the probability of the American military invasion to Iran is a lot.

According to the two above-mentioned reasons, they guess that the US-Iran relations will worsen and the efforts to “change the regime’s behavior” will end up to “regime change”

They imagine that there is no force to aid the US and its allies to advance the above-mentioned option except Mujahedin. They foresee that the main reliable case, for American government and its allies, to achieve the strategic regime change, is to rely on the forces based in Camp Ashraf.

Although the influential elements including neo-conservatives, in the US, Israel and some other countries still see and want their desirable option as what Mujahedin-e-Khalq say, Mujahedin’s vision and demand is totally out of reality and full of their tendency to self-appeasement . The followings are the reasons to such a judgment:

Due to the extraordinary heavy internal pressure on the US administration, the direction of the events is along with the decline of American engagements and military interventions in Iraq and the rise of handing the affairs to Iraqi government further; in order to end the civil war and getting the American and British army out of battle scenes.

Since the Iraqi communities such as Kurdish, Shiites and Sunnites are evidently willing to end with the role of the alliance forces in Iraq, their progress is completely expectable.

Regarding that the Sunnite parties, the remains of Baath and Al-Qaida supporters will never find the power in Iraq, the national sovereignty and the actual power will remain in the hands of Kurds and Shiites who control a large part of Iraqi territory.

Considering the results of the last year’s congress election and the changing approach of the equation of the forces in the US government system and regarding the usual approach of the State Department and the obvious differences between Robert Gaith and Donald Rumsfeld, and also regarding the view of the future presidential election of the US; according to the evolutions in US-Iran relations during the past year, the most likely tendency in American policy towards Iran is along with  flexibility ,cooperation and active diplomacy instead of military confrontation.

Considering the fact that the fall of Saddam Hussein ended with the increasing role of Iran in Iraq. Among all the countries in the region-even according to MKO’s clear confession-Iran has the closest relations with Iraqi government. To weaken or change the Iraqi government is a serious loss for Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mujahedin’s forecasts and analysis, on the way the events happen in the region, are not compatible with the reality. The probability of succeeding in their approach to make the American administration accept their visions and evaluations is less than zero. Therefore the views and efforts of various political forces on MKO’s situation will be one of the followings:

As a part of agreeable cases among Iran, America and Iraq, MKO will be under pressure until they are partly or totally handed to Iranian government (The Islamic Republic is trying to achieve the solution).

MKO will stay in Camp Ashraf –under international supervision and continue its actual activities. (this solution is sought by MKO, neo-cons of the US, Israel and any one who is seeking the military option towards Iran)

Camp Ashraf residents will have the chance to get refugee in safe countries, by the help of international human rights communities. (This solution is totally supported by all freedom seekers in Iran, human rights organizations ,the progressive elements in Iraq and the majority of the nations all over the world.)

There is no forth solution for MKO. As the time passes and MEK are in Iraq, just the risk of being compulsorily handed over to Iran or being terrorized or captured by the hostile forces in Iraq, will heighten.

Mujahedin-e-Khalq should accept that the continuance of their organized presence in Iraq causes more insecurity and civil war in Iraq and increases the confusions in US-Iran relations. They accept the truth: the direction of the events is going to make the presence of MKO impossible, in Iraq.

Mujahedin haven’t shown any interest to pursue the third solution yet. Their official request is to remain in Iraq but not to leave it. They are still gathering the international support to stay in Iraq. Some dissident organizations agreed the MEK’s request for staying in Iraq and warned about the risk of giving them to Iran. The Mujahedin khalq Organization is the most isolated force among the Iranian political forces. It is designated as a terrorist organization by the US and the European Union. MEK’s behavior toward its political dissidents is bloody. It’s internal structure is dangerously similar to that of “Godess and Slaves”. The main characteristic of MKO is achieving the political power by any mean and with any price, even via war and military invasion to another country. Thus cooperation, negotiation, agreement and accompaniment with MKO are never practical. Any word of their speech to their opponents smells the blood and hatred.

Although the MEK has no common point with the other political forces of the country, the indifference regarding the fate of Ashraf residents will end with a disaster. The price of MKO’s stay in Iraq is to risk the fate of 3500 human beings who have the right to live a normal life. The MKO’s decision based on staying in Iraq should be complained.

Massoud Rajavi

Errors of a cult leader

Today’s man has undergone substantial changes compared to past centuries concerning his lifestyle, means of livelihood, manner of thinking, demands, Errors of a cult leaderexpectations and the like. Modern economics, politics, ethics, institutions, governments, and leaders can hardly be comparable to their historical counterparts; rather they are highly distinct issues. Now, man challenges the past and its social organizations; makes an attempt to free himself from past attachments; bears no passivity; and refrains to submit to those leaders seeking to accomplish their own ambitious objectives. Rather, he is willing to find the logic behind all decisions made by leaders and submits just to the legitimate ones. Therefore, the role of hegemonic leaders seems to have been faded away and man chooses to be the master of his own destiny. Consequently, historical leaders come to be subject to criticism and many have lost their godlike and hallowed status.

Throughout history, leaders have served a twofold role. Some leaders have brought about fundamental positive changes in social and political structure of societies; on the contrary, many caused the disintegration of societies due to their corruption, oppression and violence. Leaders come to power on the demand of masses, by means of political and military coup d’état, or through holding national referendum and legitimate elections. Thus, they can be classified as legitimate, corrupt and oppressive and those who force themselves unto the power to lead a hegemonic rule.

Among them, the latter ones receive much criticism and have a variety of dissenters. The overall disagreement on their nature has its roots in the lack of a consensus over the appropriate style of leadership. Although fascists advocate the policies adopted by Hitler and Mussolini, democrats consider them to be against democracy and freedom. Likewise, Stalinists considered his dictatorship inevitable in that particular period when he reined the USSR.  Quite the opposite, his opponents considered it a factor relevantly resulting in the development of an anti-communist trend in the world. Now years after the fall of the main communist camp, the communism-phobia is still dominating over the Western countries. Relatively, a leader has cons and pros even within his own party. Any made judgment on these leaders depends on some factors such as their ideological orientation, strategic objectives, and adopted tactics for the fulfillment of those objectives. In addition to ideological leaders, there are national and ethnic leaders who are judged by their extent of success in maintaining and safeguarding national interests, power of resistance against the invasion of invaders, and determination to preserve national sovereignty. Such leaders like Alexander the Great and many others are subject to different and even paradoxical judgments though many believe that personal traits and genius of leaders as well as their social support may guarantee their success.

Except for some ideological and cultic groups, hegemonic leadership is hardly submitted to in today’s world. The above comments on the status of historical leaders hold true for ideological and cultic leaders as well; however, their paradoxical nature and activities put a stop to coming upon an accurate judgment on them. Of the most paradoxically active cultic leaders in our modern world is Masoud Rajavi who leads the globally blacklisted terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq with its own proponent and opponents. He is a self-appointed leader who secured a godlike position for himself, a status nobody has permission to question and which is claimed to be devoid of any strategic, political, and ideological fault. However, his critics believe that he has been responsible for numerous deviations and challenges MKO has met. A passing look at his past career and the role he has played in different organizational phases may give us a better and deeper understanding of his true nature.

From among his critics, and even sympathizers, are many who are unanimous that Rajavi has made critical mistakes leading the organization to the precipice of demise. The mistakes made by Rajavi can be classified as those made in the early years of his seizing the power as the leader of MKO and those made after the victory of Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979. Unlike the internal idealist factions that travailed to stabilize post-revolution chaotic state, Rajavi made his first big mistake of resorting to armed struggle just to achieve his totalitarian ambitions. In fact, he was fighting against the development of democracy in Iran under the pretext of working to overcome social challenges. Many Mojahedin ex-members, observing the course of the changes made in Iran’s newly shaped society as well as within the organization, truly predicted that MKO would be converted into a religious cult as a result of Rajavi’s wrongdoings, heretical deviations, and strategic failures.  Here the aim is to have a detailed study of personal, strategic, and ideological mistakes made by Rajavi especially in recent three decades based on the existing evidences and the statements made by a great number of the organization former members.

Former members of the MEK

Camp Ashraf survivors letter to Iraqi PM

Dear Mr. Nouri Al Maleki,

We the undersigned have arrived in Europe over the past few weeks as refugees from .

We are survivors of the Rajavi cult (aka Mojahedin-e Khalq) which for many years was part of Saddam Hussein’s repressive apparatus.

As you are aware we had the chance of taking refuge from the Rajavi dictatorship with the American army when they established a TIPF next to Camp Ashraf in Diyali province.

Recently we were freed from there and have managed to reach the European Union. Many others decided to voluntarily repatriate to where they have re-joined their families. Others have decided to go to other countries like .

The situation of Camp Ashraf is not unknown to you. We know that many of our friends still trapped there would like to leave, but now do not have the opportunity that we had, now that TIPF is closed.

As part of the Iraqi government’s drive to remove the MKO from Iraqi territory, we believe it is vitally important to re-create a place similar to the American camp so that those people who no longer want to be terrorists can escape the MKO camp.

The UNHCR has stated that it cannot begin to deal with these people until they stop being a paramilitary group. It is important to give individuals that very chance by providing them an escape route.

We implore you to create another camp next to Camp Ashraf for people to go to. Once they see a glimmer of hope we are sure many, many will take the opportunity to leave the MKO and from there leave itself.

We further implore you to open the actual gates of Camp Ashraf and allow families in to have access to their loved ones. Let Rajavi’s victims see that their friends and families are there to help them.

We are ready to help in any way needed, including returning to help run the new facility.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization's Propaganda System

Is the Mujahedin’s Third Option Practical?

The third option has been presented by MKO for the last three years as part of its propaganda against Iranian regime. They have repeated the words like “referendum” or “third option” on their website and their postings or articles on the other media like Ali Safavi’s article “third option in Iran; support the regime dissidents” on August 7th, 2008 when he states that “removing the immoral, and now illegal, terror tag against the PMOI will foster a new approach towards Iran, one that offers considerable strategies depth and long-term benefits.” […]” there is a third viable option, which is embodied by the Iranian people and their organized opposition” he quoted from Maryam Rajavi’s speech addressed to European parliamentarians.

According to Ali Safavi, third option would be practical by supporting the MKO and the support would come from the west that has listed the group as a terrorist organization.

He stated that removing the group from list would offer benefits!

What are the benefits of the removal of MKO from the list of terrorist organizations? The west will not  risk the security of its citizens by supporting a group with a long history of suicide cult-like activities following the arrest of Maryam Rajavi  in France or the assassinations including of those American civilians in Iran in the 1970’s.

Maryam Rajavi also views the third option in support of the Iranian people who hardly even remember who MEK are. If the elderlies of Iranian society remember them well, they will absolutely remember the bombing and assassinations the group committed against their Iranian compatriots: civilians or authorities. They will never forget the MKO served as Saddam Hussein’s spy during the Iran-Iraq war. The group is also well known by some Iranians; those whose beloved ones are captured in Camp Ashraf and are not allowed, by MKO, to contact their children.

So where does Mrs. Rajavi‘s support come from? She might still dream in the illusion of being the president of the future Iran.

While MKO is looking for the support for their third option, the only supporters could seldom found among western politicians that according to James Graff:”there are also reasons why western governments remain wary: among them are the group’s ideological origins in a mixture of Marxism and Islam, the aid they offered to and received from Saddam Hussein and charges, which they deny, implicating them in terrorist acts in Iran. Many independent analysts, such as Paris-based sociologist Farhad Khosrokhavar, say the group has few supporters inside Iran.[…]the PMOI represents a Third way the west is still unlikely to embrace –even if it has no other options either.” (Time CNN-World- “Are the PMOI Iran’s last hope for a peaceful solution” by James Graff, July, 7, 2006)

According to Mujahedin, the support can also come from the organization’s sympathizers who are so got in the busy life of the west where they can barely find any time to participate the group’s so –called large gatherings with the exaggerated number of participants who are mostly deceived by democratic slogans of MKO’s propaganda system or are simply rented by MKO, just like the German actors or Polish students . Are such types of gathering enough to enjoy the support of the Iranians or the west?

The Iranian expatriates in abroad hardly risk their lives or freedom to attend a demonstration held by a terrorist designated radical Marxist group. A demonstration in which there is always the risk of being arrested or imprisoned.

Mujahedin Khalq Organization's Propaganda System

Mujahedin Bebehind the misinformation, disintegration

Iraq, Camp Ashraf, Mojahedin-e Khalq Behind the misinformation, disintegration

An agreement was reached earlier this year for security at Camp Ashraf, the military base of the Iranian Mojahedin-e Khalq terrorist group, to be transferred from American to Iraqi forces.

The MKO reacted with a blitz of misinformation aimed at media and decision makers.

This misinformation has a single aim; to persuade decision makers in every field that Camp Ashraf must remain untouched, protected externally by US forces, while internally it must be kept exclusively under the control of MEK leaders with no external interference at all.

The preservation of Camp Ashraf is essential to MKO leader Massoud Rajavi because it provides the total isolation in which mind control methodology can be used for cult indoctrination.

As a result, some recent reporting on the MKO contains confusing and conflicting information which passes for fact but which can be sourced to the misinformation issued by the MKO itself.

Iran-Interlink here examines the MKO’s claims in relation to Camp Ashraf and, in the context of other information, provides some brief analysis.

Mojahedin supporters claim the people in Camp Ashraf face persecution or even execution if sent back to Iran

The Iraqi government has given repeated assurances that it will abide by international law and no-one will be forced to return to Iran against their will.

Over 600 MKO have already voluntarily returned to Iran and the ICRC which has oversight of their treatment has reported no incidences of any mistreatment, persecution or even detention.

Although Iran has not rescinded its amnesty for ‘repentant’ MKO members who wish to return home, BBC monitoring reported that one Majlis representative demanded the return and execution of MKO.

In the context of reports that US forces have removed 300 leading MKO members from Camp Ashraf in recent weeks, Iran rejects the idea that the west ‘cherry pick’ useful MKO operatives and send the unwanted ones home for Iran to deal with. Such stances are designed to ensure that western governments take all MKO operatives from Camp Ashraf to any western countries which can tolerate them.

Mojahedin supporters claim it is the only resistance to the Iranian regime

The true resistance to the Iranian regime are the people inside Iran who live on a daily basis with the lack of freedoms and rights. They are the front-line of opposition. The MKO has no presence in Iran in this respect. The people inside Iran are not waiting to be ‘rescued’ by this military-political cult. They are competently opposing their own government on a daily basis. Instead, the MKO is regarded by ordinary Iranians as a foreign treacherous force which sided with Saddam Hussein during the eight year war with Iraq, and which is now asking the U.S. to bomb them, invade their country and hand it over to the Rajavis.

Proponents say members of the camp have been recognized by the U.S. as "protected persons" under the Fourth Geneva Convention since 2004

No matter what is claimed by the American military and the MKO itself, the body which decides on this status is the United Nations. The UN says that the Geneva Fourth Convention does not apply to any uniformed paramilitary group and in any case, the conditions for applying it have not existed since 2004. The MKO cannot be assessed as individual refugees until they lay down their arms and take off their military uniforms.

Proponents claim that Amnesty International and other non-governmental organizations that speak out against transferring authority of the camp to Iraq is proof that their cause is legitimate.

Neither Amnesty International, nor any other body, has ever said authority should not be transferred to the sovereign government of Iraq. AI has only urged that international law on non-refoulement be respected by both the U.S. and Iraq. The Iraqi government has given repeated assurances that respect for international law is a fundamental basis for the treatment of the individuals in Camp Ashraf.

Mojahedin supporters claim the people in Camp Ashraf will face ‘a Srebreneza-style massacre’ on the orders of Iran if Iraqi military take control

The handover is by mutual agreement between U.S. and Iraqi governmental officials. Iraqi officials from various ministries have expressed their outrage at the deeply insulting insinuation repeated by western media that they will act like Saddam Hussein and simply massacre their opponents. They assert that the role of Iraqi military is no different from that of the U.S. military in relation to Camp Ashraf which is, to detain the residents and provide security during their detention.

Mojahedin supporters claim taking them off the terrorism lists will enable the MKO to overthrow the Iranian regime

From 1983 to 2003 the MKO has had every possible encouragement and support, whether political, militarily, financially and etc, to do exactly that. Since its biggest incursion into Iran in 1988 in which hundreds of civilians in its ranks were killed, the MKO has been unable to effect any change to the internal situation of Iran other than cause an increase in the level of repression.

Inclusion in western terrorism lists did not prevent the MKO in Iraq from continuing to launch terrorist attacks into Iranian territory through to at least 2002. Only since the invasion of Iraq in 2003 when the MKO was forcibly disarmed has the group been unable to continue its military track.

Inclusion in western terrorism lists has not prevented the MKO from fundraising, recruiting and lobbying legislators in western countries. Removing the group from these lists will make no material difference to the group, but will allow it to become deeper entrenched in western political establishments.

The MKO misinformation serves a single purpose; to delay the disintegration of the group – an inevitable outcome which can be either facilitated or hindered by western governments and humanitarian agencies.

• Delay will allow the leaders to re-group in western countries and abandon unwanted rank and file members.

• Delay will expose rank and file members to increased human rights abuse; recent escapees say ten percent of women in Camp Ashraf have undergone unnecessary hysterectomies to rob them of the chance of having children. This process is ongoing.

Iran-Interlink urges that a separate camp be opened by the Iraqi government next to Camp Ashraf to allow defectors an escape route.

Iran-Interlink urges that the closed doors of Camp Ashraf be opened to outside bodies, including the families of people inside the camp and international humanitarian agencies.

Interested people can contact Iran-Interlink and/or the Iraqi government for up-to-date news about Camp Ashraf.

Mujahedin presence in Iraq is illegal

Iraqi envoy: Iraq never signs deal with US, unless its interests are met

Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Abu Heidar al-Sheikh said on Saturday that Iraq would not sign any deal with US, unless it will meet interests of the Iraqi nation and those of all neighboring states. Mujahedin presence in Iraq is illegal

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said there are lots of unresolved issues on a security pact between Iraq and the US which should be reviewed and that signing a deal at this juncture is out of question.

Any agreement should get approval of the Iraqi parliament, he underlined.

Iraqi religious leaders should also put seal of approval prior to signing any security pact with the US, he pointed out.

The Iraqi nation has the final say in all affairs and its consent is required, he said.

White House officials have declared that if Iraq refuses to sign the security pact with the US, they will freeze Iraq’s assets, he said.

Iraq has asked Iran and the US to attend the fourth round of talks on Iraq’s security, he said, adding that "We are waiting to hear comments from both sides."

…

He called for promotion of jointly run projects as well as investment of Iranian companies in Iraq to help reconstruct the war-shattered country.

Denouncing bloody war between Iran and Iraq, he said the war between the two countries was masterminded by Saddam Hussein and his oppressive regime and the Iraqi nation had no role in it.

On presence of MKO members in Iraq, he said "We believe that they are against the Iraqi and Iranian nations and should leave the country. Their presence in Iraq is totally illegal."
