Massoud and Maryam Rajavi
The cult of Rajavi

MEK; The cult of the leader

Massoud Rajavi is an outstanding speaker, able to move audiences with his smooth voice, staccato delivery, and sharp turns of phrase. Neo-Stalinist, caught up in his own charisma, he soon created a cult of personality around himself and eventually his current wife, Maryam Rajavi . former members of the movement frequently criticize this phenomenon, described by many foreign reporters.

Born in 1953 to a middle-class family in Tehran,Maryam Rajavi was active from 1970 in the resistance movement to the Shah. She was a student at the Sharif Technical University in the capital. Rising to a leadership position in the student movement she joined Mojahedin in the mid-Seventies. According to her official biography, the Shah’s Savak executed one of her sisters, Narges, and agents of the Islamic Republic later killed another, Maasoumeh.

Maryam Azdanlu, working hard in the social department of the Mojahedin, played a key role in winning student support for the movement. As a candidate in Tehran for the legislative elections of 1980, her supporters claimed that she won over 250000 votes. She took part in Tehran’s popular demonstrations against the Islamic Republic soon after the revolution. In 1982, she joined the Mojahedin’s headquarters staff in Paris.” Elected” in 1985, after she married Massoud Rajavi, as “ co-leader”, she was made secretary General by decree four years later. Deputy commander In chief of the National Liberation army(NLA) since 1987, the National Resistance Council “elected” her “future president of Iran” five years later. Her role was to be the country’s provisional chief executive during the transition period that the Mojahedin predicted would follow the fall of the Mullahs.

Ervand Abrahamian, a City University of New York historian, has analyzed Massoud and Maryam Rajavi’s “cult of personality’ in terms of the Mojahedin’s “sect-like” structure and behaviour. By 1987, he argues, the organization had developed all the symptoms of a religious cult or sect: worship of the leader, called “the guide” or ,less formally, but significantly :”the current Imam”. The Mojahedin’s “rigid” hierarchy was based on orders from the top and unquestioning subordination of the membership. Abrahamian describes a closed world with its own texts, censorship and enforced outlook. And this “world view” , despite frequent public denials, remained committed to a “synthesis” of the Shiite “religious message” with Marxian social science. He goes on to emphasize the organization’s creation of its own “history”,”martyrs” and “hagiography”. members follow a dress code. Finally, in Iraq, Abrahamian depicts a world apart with its own communities, press, offices, militia, training camps, clinics, schools and prisons, known as “ re-education centers”.

Peter Waldman, an American journalist, endorses this view. According to him, Massoud Rajavi’s marriage with Maryam, a relatively unknown ex-wife of one of his assistants, completed the group’s “transformation” from a political movement to a sect. he points to the Mojahedin’s publications that presented her new role as a “triumph of feminism” and an “ideological revolution” for Iranian women and Moslem world. She was used, he adds, as a contrast with the treatment of women under the Islamic Republic.

According to the former members, the “leadership cult” rose to a new pitch soon after their marriage. Waldman wrote that, Massoud Rajavi was described in a series of Mojahedin publication as “quasi-divine” and a “gift to mankind”. His marriage was compared to the Koran’s depiction of the Prophet’s, and he was seen as a source of “God’s light”. finally, according to the reporter, the group officially proclaimed Massoud Rajavi as “infallible” and “without sin”.
Dr. Ghaffour Moussawi, a psychiatrist and former member, suggest that Massoud Rajavi suffers from a form of narcissistic disorder:” this man is obsessed with his own personality. He believes himself to be above others. He can neither tolerate criticism nor face up to his own mistakes, of which, God knows.

There have been many during his long career as a despot. To establish his authority, he relies on demagogy, intimidation, raw power or the force of arms. He only recruits young people who have not yet developed their own personalities or critical capacities and will do anything to prove their loyalty. His narcissism is also evident in his avowed hatred for other Iranian opposition leaders, whom he insults and accuses of all kins of reason. He has attacked every one, including those most respected for their integrity, like Dr. Charlaat Madaari”.

Maryam Rajavi and Giuliani
Mujahedin Khalq; A proxy force

Rudy Giuliani, MEK’s paid supporter charged with 13 crimes.

As the Western support for the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) is in decline, the group’s paid supporter Rudy Giuliani surrendered on charges in the Georgia election subversion case. As Donald Trump’s key election lawyer, Rudy Giuliani together with two other lawyers, Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis are under trial.

On August 23, 2023, CNN reported, “The scene of Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and a notable former federal prosecutor, walking into the Fulton County jail represented another remarkable moment in the ongoing investigation into Trump and his efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat.”

According to the report, as one of Trump’s most outspoken attorneys in 2020, Giuliani was charged with 13 crimes, including breaking the state’s racketeering act, engaging in various criminal conspiracies, and soliciting a public officer in the state to violate their oath.

For more than a decade, Giuliani has pushed the agenda of the MEK, giving paid speeches and writing newspaper op-eds expressing support for a group linked to the deaths of six Americans in the 1970s.

In October 2019, NBC News warned about Giuliani’s material support for the Cult of Rajavi. The article was titled “Giuliani’s work for Iranian group with bloody past could lead to more legal woes”.
NBC News quoted Daniel Benjamin, a State Department counterterrorism coordinator from 2009 to 2012. He has focused extensively on the network of American politicians who have been paid by MEK, including Giuliani.

“I found it pretty distasteful that they were shilling for this group even if it was delisted,” Benjamin told NBC. “This is a group that has American blood on its hands, and it’s never owned up to that.”

“Look at those who have gone on their gravy train and then go to their events and say MEK is going to bring democracy and peace to Iran,” Benjamin said. “Basically, these guys bring aboard their pals. Especially among the hardest line anti-Iran folks, this is the place to go. Though plenty of people become much more hard line once their pockets are filled with MEK money.”
The authors of NBC New also quote from Karim Sadjadpour, an Iran expert with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Sadjadpour describes the organization as a fringe group with mysterious sponsors that garners slight support in its home country. “Their population in Iran hovers between negligible and nil,” Sadjadpour said.

Today, in August 2023, after the MEK’s headquarters was raided by the Albanian Police, the group’s base among its paid supporters is much more devastated than before. Regarding that Albania is a loyal ally of the United States, the move by the Albanian authorities to confiscate the MEK’s computers and other digital tools of its cyber army must have been granted approval of the American authorities.

The group’s paid supporters among the US warmongers like Giuliani seem to have to leave the group alone to help their notorious background.

What should Canada expect after the potential move of the MEK to its territory?

Concerns over potential relocation of the MEK members to Canada has been on the rise. Regardless of the group’s violent acts against Iranian people, regarding the previous experiences of France, Iraq and Albania in hosting the group, Canada should be aware of the problems it will face with.
in 1986 France’s Prime Minister Jacques Chirac evicted the MEK out of France. Massoud Rajavi and approximately five to ten thousand MEK members were received by the Iraqi government. Rajavi moved to Iraq –which was then fighting Iran– and set up a base on the Iranian border.

As Saddam’s private army, the MEK collaborated with former Iraqi dictator for spying and launching cross border operations against Iran and then for suppressing Iraqi Shiites and Kurds’ uprisings. After the collapse of Saddam Hussein, the newly established Iraqi government as well as the Iraqi nation did not want the Cult of Rajavi in their soil. The group had occupied the land, named Camp Ashraf, which originally belonged to Iraqi farmers of Diyala province.

Iraqi authorities made efforts to convince the MEK leaders to leave their territory peacefully, but they clashed with Iraqi security forces who wanted to build a guard post inside Camp Ashraf. The result was violence. Massoud Rajavi ordered the unarmed MEK members to resist Iraqi soldiers not allowing them inside the camp. Nouri al-Maliki, the then prime minister of Iraq – whose ambassador to the US called the group “nothing more than a cult” – insisted it leave the country.

Last month, the same scene was repeated in Albania. The Albanian state Police tried to enter the group’s camp in Manez named Ashraf 3, residents of the camp were ordered not to allow the Police to touch their computers –their main tools to fight the Iranian government. The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, in an interview for German network Der Spiegel, said that the Mujahideen cannot use Albania to fight against Iranian government. Rama said that currently Albania is being “used as a trench in a war that is not ours,” warning that if the MEK insists on fighting Iran, “they must leave Albania.”

As a country that still hosts the MEK’s main headquarters in the suburb of Paris, Auver Sur d’Oise, France has witnessed the most violent scenes from the MEK members and sympathizers. In June 2003, after the group’s base was raided by the French Police and Maryam Rajavi was arrested under the order of Frech judiciary, the group followers were ordered to commit self-immolations to protest the arrest of their she-guru. Several MEK members set themselves on fire in 6 European cities. Two women died of self-immolations.

The Iranian Canadian Congress is truly concerned about the probable risks that the Canadian might encounter in case of the MEK’s immigration to Canada. “The MEK organization’s history and actions have raised significant alarm within the community”, the ICC’s Vice President, Mona Ghassemi wrote in a letter to Canadian Immigration Minister.

Open letter to Minister of Immigration Concerns Regarding Potential Immigration of MEK Members to Canada

Vice President of Iranian Canadian Congress, Mona Ghassemi has sent a letter to The Honourable Marc Miller regarding Concerns of Potential Immigration of MEK Members to Canada.
Dear Minister Miller,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing on behalf of the Iranian Canadian Congress to express our deep concern over recent Iranian media reports suggesting that the leaders of the People’s Mojahedin Khalq (MEK) have made plans to transfer their headquarters to Canada. We acknowledge that the accuracy of this news remains uncertain, and we trust in the competence of Canadian authorities in conducting the necessary investigations.

The MEK organization’s history and actions have raised significant alarm within the community, considering their previous inclusion on Canada’s terrorist list until 2012. The potential immigration of individuals associated with such an organization to Canada is worrying not only for Iranian Canadians, but also for the broader Canadian community.

Our organization greatly values the efforts made by the Government of Canada to uphold the principles of safety, security, and human rights. We kindly urge you to address this matter promptly by conducting a thorough investigation into the validity of the media reports. Furthermore, we request that you reassure the Iranian Canadian community and the broader Canadian public, by committing not to provide a safe haven for individuals or groups with a history of terrorist acts. We firmly believe in the dedication of Canadian authorities to meticulously assess immigration files and to ensure that individuals entering our country do not pose a threat to the safety and well-being of our society.

We are confident that your office will handle this matter with the utmost diligence and care. We are looking forward to hearing from you. We remain committed to supporting the values and principles that Canada represents.

Sincerely,
Mona Ghassemi
Vice President

Albania cuts off anti-Iran MKO terrorist group’s internet access

The Albanian government has cut off access to internet at the camp of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) near the capital Tirana, attempting to tighten the noose around the anti-Iran terrorist group.

It was the latest move by Albania to restrict the terrorist and cyber activities the MKO devises at the Ashraf-3 camp in the northwestern region of Tirana, Tasnim news agency reported on Saturday.

Back in June, Albanian police raided the camp on the grounds that the MKO was involved in “terror and cyber attacks” against foreign institutions.

Police in Albania have raided a camp home to the anti-Iran terrorist cult of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO).

Authorities seized 150 computer devices linked to terrorist activities. At least one person was killed and dozens of others were injured during the clashes at the camp.

In early July, Iran gained access to a batch of electronic devices and storage equipment confiscated during the search operation conducted by Albanian police.

Earlier in August, Albanian police reportedly took control of the Ashraf-3 camp and imposed a strict curfew over the entire area.

The MKO has carried out numerous terrorist attacks against Iranian civilians and government officials since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Out of the nearly 17,000 Iranians killed in terrorist attacks over the past four decades, about 12,000 have fallen victim to the MKO’s acts of terror.

The European Union, Canada, the United States and Japan had previously listed the MKO as a “terrorist organization.”

In 2012, the group was taken off the US list of terrorist organizations. The EU followed suit, removing the group from its list of terrorist organizations.

American News Site Speaks of MEK-Israel Alliance for Terror Acts in Iran

On the 70th anniversary of the US-run coup against the Iranian democratic leader, Mohammad Mosaddeq, Daily Kos pointed out the part of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/ MKO) as the West’s operative terror arm inside Iran.

The author of the article, Meteor Blades investigates the West’s attitude towards Iran as a rich country in oil and other resources. According to the article, there is bipartisan consensus in the heights of U.S. foreign policy circles for curtailing Iran, particularly what is usually labeled its “nuclear ambitions.”

The hostile approach of the West has kept on until now. Blades criticizes the US warmongers: “While conventional war, the bomb-bomb-bomb Iran approach, has been so far avoided because that still remains a last resort of the bipartisan consensus, other attacks on Iran have continued, including by means of Stuxnet, the cyber-weapon built by the National Security Agency together with CIA and Israeli intelligence and used to temporarily cripple the uranium enrichment operations in Natanz, Iran.”

The MEK is a tool in this aggressive approach against Iran. The author states just one of the services that the terrorist Cult of Rajavi has offered the enemies of the Iranian nation: “There are, in addition, assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists by the Iranian terrorist organization Mojahedin-e-Khalq assisted with funding and training assistance of America’s ally Israel.”

People inside the MEK camp face HR abuses regularly, former member

Mostafa Beheshti , former member of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization, reveals on Vox News Albania, that men and women inside the camp face human rights abuses regularly, including rape.

In an interview, published by VOX News Albania, a former member of the MEK, Mustafa Beheshti, revealed what happened inside the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organisation (MKO) camp located in Manza, Durrës.

Mostafa Beheshti, according to the news website, broke down in tears as he described the agony he experienced at the camp which he escaped after 18 years of suffering. The former member, who is 40 years old, said he was only allowed to leave after he threatened to burn himself alive.

It was also reported that Mostafa Beheshti underscored that the MKO camp was filled with well-trained terrorists and are very dangerous. The former member stated “The oldest are soldiers and they know a lot of things. Many of them lived in America and were IT engineers. Even now there are people in America working for them. They have a lot of money.”

Mostafa Beheshti then went on to highlight that people in the camp had no freedom and that their basic human rights were violated. For example, he explained that his late brother had not seen his son or family for 22 years before he died. He said “After 22 years, I want to see my family. We can’t go there, our families can’t come here.”

Moreover, Mostafa Beheshtii stressed that “there are many women and men who are raped every day there.”

The former member, who currently lives in Tirana, also explained that “we substantiated every fact there and often they accused us that you are not Mujahid.” As for their day-to-day life,  Beheshti said “If you talked to a girl or joked with her, they would consider you immoral and lecture you.”

Iran brings ‘huge’ case against over 100 MKO terrorists

Iran’s top human rights official says the Islamic Republic has brought a “huge” case against more than a hundred members of the terrorist cult Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO), which has murdered tens of thousands of Iranian citizens.

In an interview with ISNA news agency published on Saturday, Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, emphasized that Iran wants to rid the world of terrorism and terror outfits.

He explained that a “huge” case has been brought against 107 high-profile members of the MKO, and their indictment has been referred to a court in Iran. A special branch has also been formed to deal with the matter, and the defendants have been notified via email, he said.

Kazem Gharibabadi

Secretary of Iran Judiciary’s Human Rights Council

“The court will soon start its work in accordance with the provisions of the criminal procedure,” he said.

Gharibabadi reiterated that the Islamic Republic is determined to employ all available tools to counter terrorists, especially the MKO terrorist group.

‘MKO terrorists roaming freely in West’

He also lamented the fact that the members of the MKO are freely wandering around in some Western countries despite having murdered numerous innocent Iranian nationals.

“In parallel with the legal, judicial and political pressures that the Islamic Republic of Iran has exerted on some countries housing MKO members, those states have also independently come to the conclusion that the MKO is really a terrorist group. They are placing limitations on them, and we welcome the restrictive measures against the MKO terrorists,” Gharibabadi noted.

Why the raid?

Albanian police authorities have reportedly taken control of the Ashraf-3 camp housing anti-Iran MKO terrorists, imposing strict restrictions on the entire area.
The top Iranian rights official also vowed that Tehran will not be content with the current level of actions against the MKO, adding that their host countries must either expel or prosecute them.

On June 20, Albanian police forces entered the MKO camp, known as Ashraf-3, near Tirana due to its engagement in “terror and cyberattacks” against foreign institutions. Authorities seized 150 computer devices linked to terrorist activities.

At least one person was killed and dozens of others were injured during the clashes at the camp. More than a week later, the police entered the camp again and security forces were deployed at the entrance to the camp to control all vehicles leaving the site.

The Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador over the Italian parliament’s decision to host the ringleader of the MKO terrorist cult.

Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama later said the MKO must leave the country if it wants to use Albanian soil to fight against Iran, adding that his country has no intention of being at war with Iran and “does not accept anyone who has abused our hospitality.”

The European Union, Canada, the United States and Japan had previously listed the MKO as a “terrorist organization.”

In 2012, the group was taken off the US list of terrorist organizations. The EU followed suit, removing the group from its list of terrorist organizations.
