The anniversary of Mujahedin cult disarmament
Mujahedin Khalq Organization as a terrorist group
As noted before, the new report of "Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism", published on April 30, has a more serous tone on the MKO than previous reports.
These additions, retrieved by comparing annual terrorism report 2006 and 2006, are as follows:
Additions to "Description":
– Pointing to the assassination of US military and civilian personnel in Iran during 1970s,
– Stressing the ability and the will of MKO members and leadership to conduct terrorist operations across the world,
– Introducing the MKO as one of the most violent political groups, established during 60s,
– Emphasizing the fact that MKO was disliked by Iranians, following the Islamic Revolution,
– Underlining the fact that for more than 3 decades, MKO used its bases in Iraq and Europe to conduct terror attacks against Iran,
– Expansion of financial base, military skills and leaders’ activities in Europe.
– Showing cult-like characteristics, in addition to terrorist ones,
– Ideological pressure on members and offering them distorted history of Iran,
– Stressing the existence of compulsory divorces, cleansing sessions and separation of kids from their parents,
– Establishing cult-of-personality around Rajavi.
Additions to "Activities":
– Confessing that despite US efforts, MKO members and leaders have never been taken to court for their role in illegal activities,
– MKO has been supported by reprehensible regimes, like that of Saddam Hussein.
– Stressing that MKO conducted terrorist operations from its bases in France for 5 years,
– Citing reports that showed Maryam Rajavi encouraged members to "crush Kurds under the tanks",
– That 7 Iranians had been arrested by FBI for transferring 400000 dollars to the MKO for buying weapons,
– Voluntarily surrender to coalition, after the ouster of Saddam, and submitting heavy weaponries,
– Arrest of 160 MKO members, including Maryam Rajavi, in France for using its bases in France for planning and financing terrorist operations,
– Self-immolations by MKO members, following the detention of Maryam Rajavi,
– Maryam Rajavi’s going to hiding, and using video-satellite to motivate members,
– Discovering documents that prove MKO received the money of oil-for-food program and used the money for terrorist attacks,
– Citing documents that prove MKO-Saddam ties: lists, a film showing Saddam when he gives a suitcase of money to MKO’s known leaders, and a footage of MKO members being trained by Iraqi army.
Additions to "Strength":
– Settlement of MKO supporters and members across Europe,
– Stressing the fact that "protected status" (4th Geneva Convention) doesn’t apply to MKO members outside Camp Ashraf or to the group as a foreign terrorist organization,
– The fact that several MKO members, trained by former Iraqi regime to make bomb and work with weapons, are still at large.
Additions to "Location/Area of Operation":
– Maintaining bases in Paris,
– Targeting Iranian elements across the world,
– Active propaganda and lobby of NCRI in the West,
– NCRI’s developed media strategies
Additions to "External Aid":
More reliance, after the fall of Saddam, on financial aids, collected under the name of unreal groups
No doubt, those quoted French citizens who the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq claim to have spoken in its behalf in the course of its gathering in Paris on Wednesday April 18 were given no opportunity to have access to any immediate information on the nature of the organization they were supporting. Hardly can French people sink into the oblivion the nightmare of the human-torches running it the streets of Paris nearly four years ago in June 2003.
The gathering in front of the French Parliament, one among a number of the like organized rallies in other Western countries, demanded from the French government to take MEK name off the EU terrorist list. The group also claimed that 15,000 French citizens, whose identities have never been released, had signed a petition in support of the group.
It is a question asked by many including the French people that why the government permits a proscribed terrorist group whose leaders are still facing new charges in French courts organize protesting rallies.
French prosecutor general had earlier on March 19 requested the anti-terror court to add new charges against MKO and the header of the group Maryam Rajavi. The new charges are reported to be money laundering and fraud charges added to the previous case which includes connection with terrorism and saboteur groups.
The MKO, which is totally different from what it claims, once had the following organization:
– Leadership, chief and different councils,
– President in exile (Maryam Rajavi, wife of Massoud Rajavi),
– Organized army (leader and chief of staff) which enjoyed heavy weapons and equipments including helicopter, tank, artillery, modern automatic guns, … besides thousands of trained soldiers with hundreds of female soldiers leading groups of men,
– Wide financial sources,
– Strong presence around the world, including Paris where Maryam Rajavi and a number of MKO leaders live,
– Lots of supporters across the world,
This group was very close to the former regime of Iraq for a long time so that Saddam Hussein gave them several camps. Former officials provided them with unlimited support for the group. All this was a result of believing in the old idea that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
The army of MKO had several camps across Iraq with the support of Saddam Hussein. The MKO, an Iranian opposition group, has been listed as a terrorist group by the US and EU.
The ideology of MKO is a mixture of Marxism and Shiite Islam. They had bloody clashes with Shah of Iran in which many of the group’s members were killed.
The organization continued its terrorist attacks in Tehran after revolution and even after the election of Mohammed Khatami as president. One of the major terrorist operations by the MKO was the assassination of General Ali Sayyad Shirazi, a senior Iranian official, in 1999.
The MKO was found in 1965 and after going to exile in early 80s, NCRI was founded as its political branch. At first, other opposition groups like Iran’s Democratic party and former Iranian president Bani Sadr joined the council but they left it soon after.
After France expelled the group in 1986, Massoud Rajavi reached an agreement with Iraqi commanders and they settled in Iraq. They established National Liberation Army with the help of Saddam and according to the International Institute of London’s Strategic Researches, 15000, mostly women, joined the MKO at that time. They had 160 tanks and M8 helicopters.
MKO rebels were trained in a closed system so that the members had no personal lives and the leader of the group was considered a charisma. It’s amazing that no news has been published about Massoud Rajavi after the US invasion to Iraq.
Facts on the MKO
This organization was founded in 1960 by a group of university students. Being influential, the group gradually turned to the biggest Iranian opposition group. The history of the group is full of opposition to the West and operations against Iranian interest inside and outside the country.
During 70s, the MKO conducted many terrorist attacks and killed American civilians and military contractors in Iraq. It also backed take over of US embassy in Iran.
In 1986, the organization was expelled from France and it settled in Iraq. Backed financially and logistically by Saddam, the MKO took part in suppressing Kurds and other minorities in Iraq’s Kurdistan and served Saddam Hussein as a powerful army.
In April 1992, it conducted attacks against Iranian embassies in 13 countries and extended its attacks inside Iran, including 3 terrorist operation in January 1998, which led to the death of 3 civilians and former head of Evin prison, Assadollah Lajevardi.
In April 1999, Iran’s Army chief of Staff, General Sayyad Shirazi was assassinated by the group. Following this, European countries listed the MKO as a terrorist organization and froze its assets.
The organization claims to have stopped its terrorist operations since 2001 and that it no longer conducts terrorist attacks against Iran from Iraq. However, it’s still a terrorist organization in Britain and the US. Even after Europe’s court of First Instance issued ruling in the favor of the organization, the spokesman of the court warned about dangers of lifting the group’s name from the list.
Now the questions are:
What’s the purpose of changing policy toward the MKO? Isn’t it a terrorist group? Isn’t it that its properties have been frozen? So, why are some people supporting it?
No one knows, there may be new plots based on supporting the group! Everyone should be aware that supporting this terrorist group can have disastrous consequences.
Jalal Jarmka-Swiss
As the MKO entered Iraq, it was like the full symbol of infidelity and blind hatred for Iraqis. They did everything and acted all crimes against Iraqis for the former Baathist regime.
Since it’s a terrorist organization, MKO uses the same methods of Baathists against the people of Iraq. They obeyed ousted regime of Saddam Hussein and they did their best to serve as wanted. They were involved in suppressing the uprising of Sha’banieh and attacks on villages and town in southern and northern Iraq.
The elements of the group were actively involved in killing women and children and committed worse crimes against our people. They were aboard of the same boat which was controlled by Baathists and Saddam. However, as soon as the boat of Baathists sank, they reached al-Qaeda’s boat without knowing that this boat is also sinking. They thought that Qaeda’s boat will save them so they also took remnants of Saddam on board. It’s regrettable that all this is happening before the eyes of Westerners. They thought that they could escape justice of people. I swear to God that Iraqi people and leaders are waiting to put you into the same hole where Saddam was thrown.
If you are seeking a way it’s only the way of leaving Iraq. From the time you entered our country, we asked for your expulsion. Your fate is close- God willing- and neither Dulaimi nor Zari nor El-Elayan nor Americans would be able to help you. The boat of terrorism would sink in the end and you would have no way out. Our people are vigilant and watch you murderers closely.
As an Iraqi, I ask Iraqi parliament and coalition forces not to hesitate in surrendering these hypocrites to the Justice, or expel them as soon as possible because this group is still plotting against Iraqis. MKO also holds tribal conferences which should be paid attention by government.

Open letter to Cologne Police chief
Mr. Klaus Steffenhagen
Polizeipräsidium Köln
Walter-Pauli-Ring 2-4
51103 Köln
Dear Mr. Steffenhagen,
We have been informed that the Mojahedin Khalq Organisation (MKO) under the name of National Council of Resistance (NCR), has once again expanded its violent threats against Mr. Ali Akbar Rastgoo (a German citizen who is resident in Cologne ) and some of his colleagues. Mr. Rastgoo and his family are well known internationally for their outspoken criticism against terrorism and violations of human rights.
The proscribed terrorist cult, Mojahedin Khalq, has once again accused all those people and organisations which criticize its behaviour of ‘working for the Iranian government’; an accusation which is punishable by death according to their public announcements over the past 25 years. And this is the worrying part which has prompted me to write this letter.
The representative heads of the Mojahedin cult in different countries are placed there as the "Representative of the National Council of Resistance", which in the case of the UK where I reside is Ms. Dolat Noroozi and in your country Ms. Massoumeh Boloorchi. Both these individuals are well known cult members with a dreadful history. Both women are known to be experts in "information laundry" and recruiters of agents and members to carry out their illegal work. They are both connected directly to Maryam Rajavi (who is, of course, a known character to your security agencies) and are both potentially hard-core suicide terrorists if they receive the order at any time. One of their old tactics (which I believe you are familiar with) is gathering information from Iranian newspapers and perhaps telephone conversation and adding their desired misinformation between the lines to feed to the intelligence services of various countries in return for a more open hand to operate outside the framework of the law. This tactic is nothing other than what Saddam’s Mokhaberat (secret services) has trained them in during their long history of working for him.
According to an article in today’s Guardian newspaper, the MKO is now accused of kidnapping a retired member of the Iranian Government in Turkey. The article also mentions the possibility that the Iranian officials arrested in Arbil (Iraq) were interrogated by Mojahedin operatives. We have also just received unconfirmed news of several arrests in Frankfurt airport linked to the alleged discovery of bombs aboard a Lufthansa flight to Tehran. The unconfirmed news indicates the motive as turning Arab countries and Iran against each other. This motive is a well know tactic employed by ex-Saddam operatives, in particular the Mojahedin Khalq Organisation. But to bring this motive to Frankfurt airport is more than a simple escalation and can be considered as deliberately exporting the most violent parts of the Iraqi conflict to the heart of Europe.
In the last few weeks, the Mojahedin has openly supported the mass murder of school children by drug traffickers in the province of Baloochestan of Iran, supported the insurgency in Iraq, and vowed to take revenge against their critics in Iraq, European countries and North America. (Of course, it is a fact that for a long time the MKO has had no influence or presence inside Iran).
Now, Mr. Rastgou and others have been accused by the MKO of ‘working for Iran ‘, which, according to the MKO’s beliefs, is punishable by death; that is, if the cult leaders Massoud and Maryam Rajavi give permission for such extrajudicial murders to be performed in the West. The extent of these threats has become so widespread that even people in the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and prominent journalists and political analysts like Dr. Noorizadeh have, in the last few weeks received open threats from the cult. The literature distributed by the cult leaders on their websites has not even spared the governments and foreign ministers of European countries from these threats.
Dear Sir,
The shocking memory of self-immolations by MKO members following the brief detention of the cult leader by French police is still fresh in our minds, while a catalogue of self confessions about the killing of thousands of Iranians, Iraqis as well as citizens of European countries, Canada and United States of America has been gathered by law enforcement agencies across the globe.
I am now writing to you to inform your good self about yet another change of direction by the leaders of the Rajavi cult after their deep disappointment in failing to clear their name from the list of terrorist organisations in the European Union without having to actually reject violence and their cult culture. The avenue to be removed from the list without a clear denouncement of violence to achieve political power is now at its end, and the Rajavi cult leaders have decided (as they have always maintained internally to the cult members) to go back to the only way they know and that is to return to the violent ways and tactics, for which the cult received training from Saddam Hussein’s Republican Guards during their joint operations in Iraq for over 20 years.
It is clear that the path they have chosen is to use physical force to stop anyone and everyone who they believe is responsible for their failure to sell themselves as a mercenary force in Iraq and beyond. This, of course, includes the ex members, critics and human right activists.
It is no secret that after the French authorities curtailed their activities in 2003 (to where Maryam Rajavi escaped from Iraq just before the fall of Saddam Hussein), Cologne has, for the last 3 years, been the main base and the unofficial HQ of the cult (as far as their directing terrorist activities are concerned). It is also no secret that the group is now flexing its muscles against its critics as well as European countries (which have refused to take them off the list) in an attempt to put pressure on the west (they have continuously announced the self-immolations as something that worked well against western countries, and have since vowed that those who can set fire to themselves at a hint from the cult leader can also kill anyone, anywhere and at any time if ordered to do so).
Sir,
At this critical point I beg you to take every precaution to ensure the safety of your citizens (as well as others) in Cologne and elsewhere in Germany .
While I am fully confident about the quality and quantity of information you and your law enforcement agencies have at your disposal, please do not hesitate to contact me should you wish to access our archives and/or recent documents about this proscribed group.
Yours sincerely,
Massoud Khodabandeh,

Stated in the first paragraph of the judgment of the Court of First Instance of the European Communities released on 12 December 2006 in Case T-228/02, an action brought by Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) against the Council of the European Union, it reads:
At the time of the facts giving rise to the present dispute, it was composed of five separate organisations and an independent section, making up an armed branch operating inside . According to the applicant, however, it and all its members have expressly renounced all military activity since June 2001 and it no longer has an armed structure at the present time.
Consequently, the court’s judgment might have been issued based on the applicant’s claims.
Initially adopting armed struggle as the infrastructure of its campaign, MKO started the other claimed five alias organizations abroad after it was expelled from mainly as coverage for its terrorist operations. The existing evidences indicate that in the course of its past forty-year power struggle, MKO has always adopted application of terror and violence to advance its objectives.
Even in the present case-file whereby it claims to have forsworn military activities, read terrorist operations, since June 2001, there are sound evidences publicized by its own publications that assert the continuation of the line of terror and violence inside as the means to establish democracy!
Moreover, MKO’s claim to have renounced terrorism is made after its proscription and because its moves were under close surveillance. Still, the group, benefiting lack of a universally precise definition of terrorism, manifests modern patterns of terrorism. What do you call it when its members set themselves on fire before the eyes of people in Western countries, besmirch the opponents, accordingly change the tone of threats after exchanging the military uniforms to be elegantly and stylishly attired, and when nearly 150 families of its members organize a 200-day or so sit-in outside the United Nations High Commission headquarters in Geneva to impose the wants that are unfounded?
We believe that MKO has kept its overt, rather than blackmailing, operations dark and has dodged contributing facts. So the Court of First Instance might have been uninformed of the facts when the case was referred to the court for adjudication. With these new facts turned up, a new fact-finding process needs to be arranged for further investigation.
Besides, The European Council announced on 31st January following the 2778th Council meeting of Economic and Financial Affairs that it has "decided to provide the PMOI with a statement of reasons for keeping it on the EU’s ‘asset freeze list’ of persons, groups and entities involved in terrorist acts, and to give the PMOI one month to present its views, together with any supporting documentation". To deracinate the malign roots of terrorism, especially a dangerous terrorist cult like MKO, special care should be taken to avoid the snakes in the grass.
Considering it a duty to inform concealed crimes of the terrorist cult of MKO, we provide clues to broad evidences. Fortunately, since MKO’s propaganda machine can never keep silent over a simple terrorist move, there are many instances of launching mortar attacks and detonating bombs inside after the claimed date of June 2001 published in Mojahed, the official organ of MKO. The followings are references to these publicized proofs originally in Persian. The lines in bold are the original dates, issues number, and the translated headlines. Part of the editorial on Mojahed Weekly No.840 was as follows:
"Free Iranians will gather in Brussels on March 8 to protest to EU’s refusal to accept the ruling of European Court. They want to ask EU officials why are they refusing to accept the ruling that orders them to quit accusing the MKO of terrorism. Hundreds of Parliamentarians have ordered their governments that this way of refusing the law wouldn’t be tolerated and that they would force the EU to obey the ruling of the Court."
UN General Assembly asks the states in its resolution (passed in 1989) to avoid organizing, provoking, assisting or taking part in terrorist activities. It also passed the international convention of terrorism prevention in order to ban financial support for terrorist activities. According to this convention, all activities aimed at forcing a state or international organization to do or not to do something is considered a terrorist act. This is exactly what would happen on March 8 in Brussels by the MKO.
The UN Security Council has also set up some duties for governments for fighting terrorism:
1. In resolution 1368 of UN Security Council, passed on Sept. 12, terrorism was defined as an aggression or military invasion and that the victim state is authorized to resort to military might according to article 51 of UN charter.
2. Resolution 1373, undoubtedly the most important resolution on terrorism, stresses the right of legal defense against terrorism and asks the states to fight terrorism in a serious manner.
It is clear that MKO wants European countries to ignore all international laws and regulations.
MKO relies on a weak ruling by a European court, which is not bounding for the states and its least effect can be limited to bureaucratic relations inside the EU.
More importantly, the ruling stressed that MKO had not committed terrorist acts since 2000, while after the ruling was issued, Maryam Rajavi said that group should be rearmed!
This means that the MKO has never stopped terrorism and not committing terrorist activities was due to being disarmed by US forces and it doesn’t necessarily mean that the MKO has changed its policies.
This one message is enough for the EU to keep the MKO on terror list and impose more limitations on it.
In order to survive, the MKO wants the warmongers to employ it in their possible plans against Iran and also asks European states to treat the group as a political one, something that requires the change of policies and practices by the group. Thus, resolving this paradox is vital for the survival of the group and has nothing to do with European countries. This is up to the group to decide whether to serve Pentagon or Western intelligence services for its survival.
The current situation of Rajavi’s remnants reminds us of the status of terrorist Taliban; while in power in Afghanistan, this rebel group refused to accept international regulations and meanwhile expected to be treated according to international conventions!!
In Norway, there are some people who support an Iranian dissident group which is called Muajhedin-e-Khalq; however the group doesn’t deserve the support.
The group played an effective role in people opposing campaign against the regime of Shah but after the fall of Shah the group challenged the newly-come to power Islamic Regime and called the people to go on strike and demonstration. But the people turned against them and thus the group which was left alone set out for terrorizing the individuals, bombing and execution. They defeated in that fight. Therefore the group’s leader, Masud Rajavi fled Iran and took refuge in France. After some time Rajavi joined his supporters in Iraq and planned an alliance with Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein gave weapons, military bases and funds to them. Saudi Arabia and America also gave money to Mujahedin.
Mujshedin-e- Khalq attended the Iraqi military invasion to Iran by assisting Saddam Hussein’s forces against their own country. If the Iranian hadn’t already opposed the group now they didn’t hesitate to oppose it “ An Iranian whether agreed or disagreed the governing regime in the country, kept his patriotic emotion after the Iraqi arrack. The attack which was affirmed and backed by US and while that attack the so-called "people’s Mujahedin" fought Iran jointly with the enemy forces. Many of the members defected the group and several other members were persecuted or tortured by the group leaders.
A kind of fascist culture was formed in the group. The members were settled in common houses. A leader (Masul) was assigned for them; the "Masul" in his turn had to report everything to Masud Rajavi, the main leader of the organization. The report of routine activities ended with "Viva Rajavi". Following the leaders, order and hierarchy had become the principals of the organization to the extent that if the members wanted to get married, at first they had to ask the leader for permission. Speaking of marriage, the disgrace for the group was revealed when Masud Rajavi married the wife of Mehdi Abrishamchi, the fourth person in the organization hierarchy. Abrishamchi thanked God due to the opportunity the God gave him to share a "Successful Ideological Decision". A decision according to which his wife " Maryam Azdanlou" was elected as the co-leader of the organization. Political Department of MKO, the Central Committee and the central Council of MKO, all confirming the marriage, considered it as vital for stability and continuality of the growth of new leadership in a social and political domain. (Middle East Journal-Fall,1987)
We should consider the following points about MEK’s nature: – The organization has no support among Iranian people. – MKO’s structure is based on the leader Rajavi’s personality; even a sign of democracy can’t be seen in the organization. Several members of the group have defected MKO due to Rajavi’s dictatorial leadership and his alliance with Saddam’s regime.
– The group has launched several attacks against civilians in Iran. Since 1981, the group has admitted responsibility of the assassination of thousands of Iranians who, according to their claims, were the regime agents.
– The group assisted Saddam in violently suppressing Kurds in Iraq and even after the Iraqi invasion to Kuwait in 1990, it kept on supporting Saddam Hussein since Saddam funded them with hundreds million dollars.
Therefore, the group named Mujahedin-e-Khalq was put in the FTO list published by the US but now the card is turning and a number of people are trying to name the group as "non criminal" in order to use it in their fight against Iran. The military wing of the group which is still based in Iraq is under the US forces’ protection and ranking members of US congress and some others (including some Norwegians) want to legalize the group by removing it from the terror list and introduce it as an Iranian opposition.
And this is a wrong way to go to Iran.

The presence of Iranian opposition group, Mojahedin-e Khalq, has had negative consequences for Iraqis.
This organization was used as a sectarian group against Iraqis and Saddam Hussein turned them into a suppression force against Iraqi people. In 1991, we witnessed the role of this organization in Shaabanieh uprising against the Kurds. The elements of this group are known for their brutality. In 1991, during the assassination of senior religious leader Seyed Mohammed Sadeq al-Sadr, they were used again as a suppression tool.
The MKO has been designated as a terrorist organization and the stances of the US and Europe on this group are similar. As it served the goals and interests of Saddam’s regime in the past, it is now acting to deepen tribal differences. Some Imperialist forces have tied their hopes to this terrorist group and even use this organization against Shiites of Iraq and Iran; they use it for illegal operations.
This group has an active role in destabilizing the security and supporting terrorists. For instance, we can discuss the status of Dyala province. this organization is playing a role in Iraq’s instability and it has conducted many crimes against Iranians. Even, tribal leaders and sheikhs in Dyala can’t stand this group anymore. What should be dealt with carefully is the plan they’re trying to achieve in Iraq: sectarianism and plotting against Iraqis. For example, the group held a conference under the name of supporting Iraqi Sunnis with coordination of European representatives, but the European sides didn’t take part in the conference.
While the Iraqi government tries to destroy paramilitary and armed groups in order to secure the country and apply the law, the presence of a foreign armed militia in Iraq, which has military teams and plots against Iraqis, is a threat to our nation.
The comments of Mr. Ali Al-Dabbagh, Iraqi government spokesperson, on the threats of this organization and the decision of the government to expel this group show that the government is well aware of the dire consequences of the presence of this terrorist group in Iraq and that they are determined to establish security for Iraqis.
The response of NCRI to the comments of Mr. Dabbagh is funny and sarcastic. This response includes illogical sentences:
"The legitimacy of MKO’s presence comes out of Geneva Convention"!
We answer: "Which law legitimizes the interferences of a terrorist group in our internal affairs? Which law opens their hands to erase our national figures and which law allows them to kill our children?"
Iraqi government should discuss the case of this organization and expose the crimes they did against the Iraqis so that world public opinion is aware. It should also do its best to expel the group from Iraq. Iraqi parliament should take this case and decide about it. If we ask our neighbors, including Iran, not to interfere in our internal affairs, we should first expel this organization since its presence in Iraq is interference in Iranian affairs.
The presence of this organization in Iraq is against all laws and regulations and also against the national interests of Iraqis.
