Maryam Rajavi headed a ‘protest’ in Paris yesterday using paid participants to promote her regime change agenda against Iran. Rajavi is afraid of being overlooked by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s Iran Action Group run from inside the State Department. Pompeo will hold a summit in Warsaw next week where it is predicted Iranian opposition groups will feature. Sadly for Rajavi, she has not been invited. Wonder why? Here’s a timely reminder of just who the Mojahedin-e Khalq are. In 2012, Owen Bennett-Jones from the BBC conducted an in-depth investigation into the group, including interviews with top MEK members, as well as critics and victims. This is his reporting.
Maryam Rajavi
The scenes from Paris showing protesters marching down the Champs-Elysees, the grandest avenue in the city, hurling projectiles at police and being tear-gassed in return, has recently been widespread in the main stream media. “The broken glass and empty tear gas canisters have been swept away and the graffiti scrubbed off the major monuments, among them the Arc de Triumph, after a weekend of violent protests in the capital by a grass-roots movement that calls itself the Yellow Vests,” reported the New York Times.
Casualties and damages have been massive. According to the NY Times, The cost of repairing just the Arc de Triomphe — apart from the graffiti, there was damage to artifacts kept inside — could reach one million euros (about $1.15 million), according to the Center for National Monuments. On Monday, merchants and government officials were still assessing the total property damage. [1]
More than 260 people were wounded nationwide, and at least three died outside Paris on the margins of the protests over the last three weekends. More than 400 people were arrested in Paris. [2]
Meanwhile in Iran, Labor protests continued in Ahwaz and Shush (Khuzestan province) as of Wednesday, November 28. Sugar cane workers demanding back pay reportedly staged an anti-government march in Shush; protesters also clashed with police in Ahwaz during related protests. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency is reporting that the country’s authorities have detained four workers protesting not having been paid their salaries for months in the southwestern province of Khuzestan. [3]
It seems almost natural that the propaganda media of the Mujahedin Khalq (the MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ the Cult of Rajavi) do not give a shit to the France protests but they exaggerate the workers protests in Khuzestan, Iran, because the group’s leader Maryam Rajavi is sheltered in France and launches her anti-Iran campaign from France territory. However, she should be asked what about the protests inside her group’s camp in Durres, Albania.
The MKO, as a large populated entity –from 5000 members back in Iraq to over 2000 people in Albania—has always enjoyed a camp in which it has concentrated its forces. The group’s camp in Iraq was even called “Ashraf City”, as it was very well equipped with all facilities of a city such as hospital, factory, pool and park.
After the group’s relocation in Albania, despite the increasing process of defection from the group, the authorities of the MKO set off for building another city in Manez, Durres naming it “Ashraf 3”.
Here’s the question: In the entire history of the Mujahedin Khalq, has there ever been any public protest against the ruling system of the camps or everything was democratically managed by the group leaders?
The answer is NO. No public protest has been reported from inside the MKO camps but this does not mean that the group’s camps have been ruled democratically and everyone inside the group has been satisfied.
Evidences from inside the MKO indicates that dissent is immediately suppressed by the authorities of the MKO. Numerous documented testimonies of former members of the MKO reveal the very undemocratic and even inhumane attitude of the group leaders against any question, let alone conflicting ideas.
According to the Human Rights Watch report “NO EXIT”, human rights abuses carried out by MKO leaders against dissident members ranged from prolonged incommunicado and solitary confinement to beatings, verbal and psychological abuse, coerced confessions, threats of execution, and torture that in two cases led to death. [4]
The testimonies of the former MKO members indicate that the organization used three types of detention facilities inside its camps in Iraq. The interviewees described one type as small residential units, referred to as guesthouses (mihmansara), inside the camps. The MKO members who requested to leave the organization were held in these units during much of the time they were kept incommunicado. They were not allowed to leave the premises of their unit, to meet or talk with anyone else in the camp, or to contact their relatives and friends in the outside world. [5]
Human Rights Watch interviewed at least seven former members of the group to develop its report in 2005. A few years later, the RAND Corporation published another investigated report on what is going inside the MKO. RAND is a research organization that develops solutions to public policy challenges to help make communities throughout the world safer and more secure, healthier and more prosperous.
According to the RAND report, Physical Abuse, Imprisonment, and Lack of Exit Options were the tools of the MKO leaders to keep members inside the cult-like structure of the group and eventually to suppress dissent and departure. “Former MeK members claim that punishment was frequently meted out for such offenses as expressing or fomenting disagreement with the political/military strategy,” the report reads. Asking to leave the group is an unforgivable sin. “Recent accounts recall that punishment for disagreeing with MeK policies ranged from forced written confessions of disloyalty to incarceration in special facilities at Camp Ashraf. Former members report torture and long periods of solitary confinement as punishment for disloyalty.” [6]
Although, the above-mentioned reports are the most significant and official ones on the human rights abuses in the MKO, there are a lot more testimonies of those who have recently left the group’s camps in Albania. Most defectors of the group publish their firsthand account of enduring human right violations in the MKO just because they expressed their willingness to leave the group or in some cases because they dared to express their opposition to the group’s attitudes.
Gholamreza Shokri spent 27 years of his life in the MKO. He was only 20 years old and willing to find a good job in Europe when he was recruited by the MKO in Iraq. The MKO agents promised to help him get the European visa only if he stayed in their camp for a few months. As soon as he entered the organization, they confiscated his ID documents and never gave him back.” whenever I asked for my ID, they would say that they had no idea where it was.” [7]
Thus, Shokri had no way out of the MKO camp but he frequently used to ask the leaders when he could leave the cult. This question was considered a sin by the leaders. Departure from the MKO was forbidden and showing your willingness for leaving the group would be faced with suppression, imprisonment and torture. So he was imprisoned in solitary confinement. [8]
Shokri said that they had closed their eyes and took him to a clandestine jail. “They insulted me calling me spy of the Mullah’s regime,” he recounts. “They beat me in my legs so badly that I could not walk; they were bleeding. They tied my hands with hand coughs for a week. After a week my hands had no sense; I put the fire of a cigarette on them but I didn’t feel it burn. Then they forced me to stand up for one more week. Each time that I fell down out of fatigue, they would beat me so hard that I had to stand up again.” [9]
Besides Shokri, the testimonies of a large number of defectors of the MKO are available on the Net. All have one thing in common: You have no right to protest in the MKO.
While people of all societies have the chance to express their demands, dissatisfactions and even their anger, more or less, members of the MKO are not even able to express their freewill to choose for their future. They are deprived from the most basic human rights.
Maryam Rajavi’s so-called support for the Iranian workers contradicts what is really going on in her destructive cult of personality.

Since the relocation of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ Cult of Rajavi) in Albania, the co-leader Maryam Rajavi has traveled from Paris to Tirana several times. She usually travels to Tirana for especial occasions such as New Year’s celebration or to receive the paid American supporters of the group who are invited to the base. One instance was Senator John McCain who visited Maryam Rajavi in the group’s base in Tirana in April 2017.
According to the insiders of the MKO, Maryam Rajavi is once more in Tirana but it seems that this time the trip has a different reason. She is residing at International Hotel, Tirana where she holds meetings with commanders and senior members of the group.
What has driven her to the group’s base in Albania and stay there for a long period of time? She might have found it vital to reorganize her group in the absence of her disappeared husband Massoud Rajavi.
The major reason might be the increasing number of defection from the group. During the past week, at least three ex-members of the group officially announced their disassociation from the MKO and declared their readiness to denounce its abusive and violent nature. Azim MishMast, GholamAli Mirzaiee and Musa Damrudi are the most recently defected ones. All of the three were among the longstanding members of the group who left it after at least three decades.
These are just a few examples of those who officially declared their defection. Definitely, the number of defectors are far more than what is broadcasted in the media. Once the MKO was resettled in Albania, the situation became safer for defectors compared with Iraq where most members were terrified by the leaders for what they called the influence of the Iranian regime—however, hundreds of members of the MKO left the group in Iraq, especially after the disarmament of the group by the US military in 2003.
After the relocation in Albania, a large number left the group secretly and in silence. Zeinab Hosseinnejad whose father Ghorbanali had left the group a few years earlier, could manage to leave the MKO and move to Greece. Her defection was not covered in the media until last week that her sister Mona and her father travelled to Greece to visit her. The tragic videos of the reunion of the Hosseinnejads after so many years of separation was widely viewed in the social media.
Today, Maryam Rajavi’s primary struggle is the preservation of members inside the cult-like structure of the group. As she tries to convince members to stay in the organization, her so-called struggle for freedom and democracy makes no sense.
In fact, while she uses the group’s propaganda tribunes to boast of her riot units (or the so-called resistance units) in Iran, she actually is fighting the resistance units that has been established by the suppressed members inside her group.
An insider from the group has revealed that long-time manipulative meetings are organized in the group’s headquarters in Manez Durres in North of Tirana. The MKO’s secretary General Zahra Merikhi runs the sessions in which she accuses members for not being enough dedicated to the cult jargon “Cleansing on the Scene”.
Cleansing on the Scene includes self-disclosure of sexual thoughts. Members have to disclose all their sexual thoughts and desires before their peers and peers, in their turn, are tasked with verbally abusing them. This is a process of cleansing to win the struggle against Iranian regime, according to the leaders of the MKO.
The prominent paid supporter of the MKO John Bolton promised the overthrow of the Islamic Republic before 2019, in a paid speech at the group’s rally in July 2017. Now, there are only two months left to the promised moment. The group leaders have to endeavor a big challenge to keep the members in order to prevent the collapse of their establishment, let alone the overthrow of the Iranian Government.

She is staying at the Tirana’s International Hotel and has meetings with top and senior officials; Meetings with European authorities have also been arranged.
The recent presence of Maryam Rajavi in Tirana, in addition to foreign visits, seems to have no ceremonial reasons and it focuses more on the internal issue of the organization and organizes the status of its members.
Also, another reason that eliminates the integrity of the organization is Bolton’s promise to overthrow the Iranian regime before the fortieth anniversary of the revolution.
Because of the failure to realize this, the collapse of the system in the eyes of the members of the organization at Camp Ashraf 3 is a very far-reaching dream and this has caused internal organizational challenges, and the organization is trying to justify this issue.
In the latest issue of “Moscow Speaking” in Ora News, Kastriot Myftaraj commented on the recent threat of war that Iranian Mojahedin dictator Maryam Rajavi has made against Iran.
Kastriot Myftaraj comments on the recent call by Maryam Rajavi for an uprising in Iran that was made from the Mojahedin camp in Manzas, citing the Criminal Code of the Republic of Albania to denounce Rajavi’s terrorist demand.
Article 221 of the Criminal Code of Albania imposes imprisonment for 15 to 25 years, while the head of the insurgency can be sentenced to life imprisonment for such demands.
Article 211 carries a sentence of imprisonment for not less than 15 years for incitement to commit war, in this case by the Iranian Mojahedin leader.
Myftaraj notes that calls by Maryam Rajavi and the Iranian jihadists in Manzas for war against Iran provokes the latter to attack Albania with its missile system.
For this reason, Myftaraj denounces these calls for war and uprising by the Iranian jihadists sheltered in Manzas.
Earlier this month the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the creation of the Iran Action Group (IAG), whose stated goal is to”change the Iranian regime’s behaviour”. In response, Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, said that any US effort to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran was bound to fail, just days after the announcement. [1]
Zarif made the comments in a Twitter post on Sunday, on the anniversary of a US-backed coup that toppled Iran’s first democratically elected government in 1953. [2]
“65 years ago today, the US overthrew the popularly elected democratic government of Dr. Mossadegh, restoring the dictatorship and subjugating Iranians for the next 25 years,”Zarif said.”Now an ‘Action Group’ dreams of doing the same through pressure, misinformation &demagoguery. Never again.”[3]
In fact, several high profiles in the US administration have close ties with the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ the Cult of Rajavi) and so determined to the overthrow of the Iranian Government. Caitlin Johnstone of the medium writes about John Bolton’s aggressive advocacy for the MKO, “One year ago, the actual, literal psychopath who would soon be named Trump’s National Security Advisor appeared at an MEK rally and declared that the cult was a “a viable opposition to the rule of the ayatollahs.” [4]
“I had said for over 10 years since coming to these events, that the declared policy of the United States of America should be the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime in Tehran,” Bolton proclaimed. “The behavior and the objectives of the regime are not going to change, and therefore the only solution is to change the regime itself. And that’s why, before 2019, we here will celebrate in Tehran!” [5]
Johnstone states that Bolton’s sentiments were echoed with remarkable similarity by Trump’s lawyer Rudolph Giuliani at the MKO’s annual gathering in July. “The mullahs must go, the ayatollah must go, and they must be replaced by a democratic government which Madam Rajavi represents,” Giuliani said in reference to MEK cult leader Maryam Rajavi, adding, “Freedom is right around the corner … Next year I want to have this convention in Tehran!” [6]
Thus, it seems that Javad Zarif is right. The US behavior has not changed since the 1953 coup. At the time, the CIA tried to get mobsters hired and paid them good money. Shaban Jafari aka “Brainless” was a violent street thug who became a trusted henchman of the Shah. He was one of the leading mobsters who got his share of money for street actions and slogans against Mossadegh. [7]
Today, Maryam Rajavi sounds to be the modern version of Shaban Jafary and his gang. Moreover, the MKO has absolutely more potentials to instigate riots and violence that Shaban jafari did.
The MKO’s record of violent acts includes the entire range of violence from street clashes using knives, brass knuckles, and different weapons including bullets and tanks to suppress people.Listing the numerous terrorist acts of the MKO, the freelance journalist, Ivan Kesic asserts that the MKO is worse than ISIS and it has had more victims than the ISIS has. His recent article on the American Herald Tribune recounts the MKO’s role in the genocide of Iraqi Kurds, the group’s campaign of bombing against the Iranian civilians and government officials as well as the assassination of the US nationals working in Iran during the 1970s. [8]
However, the most investigated part of his article describes the MKO’s simultaneous attacks against the Iranian diplomatic interests in 13 countries in 1992. The move indicates the MKO’s motivation and potential to bully whenever it wants. Ivan Kesic writes:
“In April 1992, they invaded Iranian diplomatic missions in thirteen Northern American and Western European countries, seizing hostages and wrecking offices in a wave of coordinated attacks. In New York, five men armed with knives invaded the Iranian Mission to the United Nations, took three hostages, smashed furniture and computers in a two-hour rampage behind chained doors. Two of the hostages escaped when the police broke through a back door, and the third was released unharmed when the intruders surrendered to police negotiators. In Ottawa, Iran’s Embassy was attacked and pillaged by about 35people armed with sticks and hammers. And in Europe, the MEK members stormed Iranian embassies and consulates in Bonn, Hamburg, The Hague, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Bern, Paris and London. Scores of demonstrators were arrested, and many of the Iranian missions were extensively damaged, some by firebombs. There were many injuries in clashes that erupted, but luckily no deaths.
“In Germany, several police officers were hurt as the authorities struggled to arrest about 50 members who occupied the seven-story Iranian Embassy in Bonn for two hours. The angry mob hurled official papers and furniture from the windows during the rampage. The Iranian Consulate in Hamburg also was besieged with demonstrators hurling rocks and firebombs. About 20 protesters were arrested, and four people were treated for smoke inhalation and shock. They also broke into Iran’s Embassy in The Hague after a car rammed through the compound’s gate. Protesters armed with metal bars and sticks rushed through, entered the building and caused extensive damage. In Stockholm, 50 MEK members set two Iranian Embassy buildings and six cars on fire. The Ambassador’s wife and two children were treated for shock, and one embassy employee suffered burns. One embassy employee was injured as invaders ransacked the Iranian Embassy in Oslo, and several others in the embassy in Copenhagen where MEK members smashed windows. They also hurled rocks, smashed windows and tore down the Iranian flag at the embassy in London, and a firebomb was later thrown at the London offices of Iran Air, causing damage but no injuries. Later in the 1990s, Iranian diplomats were also attacked in Denmark, Austria, and Italy. Western diplomats were also targeted; in August 2003 MEK bombed the United Nations compound in Iraq, prompting UN withdrawal from the country.” [9]
Maryam Rajavi was once Saddam’s operative tool to suppress Iraqi uprisings. Her notorious command at the time –“Take the Kurds under your tanks, and save your bullets for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.”—has been widely recalled by defectors of the group. And, regarding the role of the MKO agents in the assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientists under the command of the Israeli Mossad, their leader is definitely capable of being a much more aggressive and violent CIA agent than Shaban Jafary was.

As Maryam Rajavi in the absence of her husband Massoud Rajavi is preparing to receive likes of Rudi Giuliani and Newt Gingrich as paid speakers in her yearly event to glorify terrorism and self-immolations, another MEK member disappears in Albania. Malek Shara’i has vanished in mysterious circumstances, which brings to mind the fate of tens of hundreds of missing people in Mojahedin Khalq Organisation under the rule of Saddam Hussein.
Malik Shara’i was one of the few remaining witnesses to the mysterious death of 53 MEK members in Camp Ashraf Iraq. According to the people who knew him he was also trying to get himself out of the closed and inaccessible MEK camp in Iraq. He is probably the latest victim of rebranding MEK. According to this news, ISIS is the next guest terror group Albania must host.
Gjergji Thanasi, well known Albanian investigative journalist, thinks otherwise. Below is the English translation of his article titled:
Iranian MEK “hero” of Manzas adds additional security threats to Albania
Gazeta Impakt – By Gjergji Thanasi – June 28, 2018
On June 19, 2018 Albanian police were officially informed by the Iranian Mojahedin (MEK), stationed at Camp Ashraf 3 in the Administrative Department of Manze, that a 47-year-old Mojahed named Malek Shara’i was drowned in the Rrotull village reservoir. According to the 4 Iranian Mojahedin who were with Malek, he got into the reservoir to help a friend of his who was at risk of drowning. Fortunately, the friend had escaped, but Malek was drowned in the irrigation channel. Albanian police sent divers of the special police unit RENEA as well as Durrës Port Authority divers to search for his body.
This is a possible assassination which raises a series of questions that create reasonable suspicion of at least one extrajudicial murder and also possibly, terrorist acts in Europe. Police initially reported finding clothes belonging to the missing victim on the shore of the reservoir, while the Iranian MEK of Camp Ashraf 3 officially insist that Malek jumped into the water fully clothed to save his companion (Sic!). Though for a week the search for his body engaged 5 trained and experienced divers of European standards, the body was not found. The searches have already been called off and for the Albanian police, the Iranian is officially considered a missing person.
This lack of shame raises many questions. The reservoir in the village has a small surface area and its maximum depth when full does not exceed 3 meters. In such a reservoir, small, not deep, with few or no reeds along the shore, our divers would have already found the body. Divers at the Durres Port Authority on Wednesday, as they were carrying out training activities at the Port of Durmitor, confirmed to me that they had not found the body and had stopped searching the reservoir.
Another question is the haste with which the Iran MEK declared Malek Shara’i a martyr [without finding a body]. Just as the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, might decide to decorate Naim Frashëri after his death with the decoration of the Golden Eagle, the Trimestral Order. There are also similar precedents, for example, when Haxhi Lleshi awarded the late Zeliha Allmetaj with the high prize of the heroine of Socialist Work.
Leaving aside sarcasm, let’s ask the question publicly: If the Iranian’s body was not found in the reservoir, what really happened to it? Due to previous cases in Iraq in Ashraf and Liberty camps, Malek’s “martyrdom” is likely to have been executed by Madam Rajavi’s organization itself. Such executions without a trial or “partisan” trials, or as the English say, “Kangaroo Courts”, have often occurred in the ranks of the MEK. If such dirty work is true, it would be a scandal for Albania and should attract the attention of international media. We do not know the secret agreement of Prime Minister Rama about the transfer of these three thousand Mujahideen MEK to Albania, but I, as an Albanian patriot, cannot believe that the Prime Minister of my country, who portrays himself as a descendant of our rebels, would grant to Madam Rajavi’s people the right to extraterritoriality on Albanian soil. The April 1961 Vienna Convention on Immunities and Diplomatic Privileges did not accord to foreign diplomatic missions such rights over the life and death of their staff as these Iranian Mojahedin MEK, were officially offered when they were given shelter for humanitarian reasons on Albanian soil…
…Albania, my homeland, a NATO member country, and a candidate for becoming a member of the EU, is failing by being labelled the “Sick man of the Adriatic”. If Madam Rajavi’s men in Manzas have been murdered without trial or after a “partisan trial”, it is up to the Albanian prosecutors to open a criminal case for deliberate murder (first-degree murder). If Prime Minister Rama, in the agreement he has signed, has also given the Iranian Mujahideen MEK the right to extraterritoriality, then we are dealing not only with a violation of the law by the Prime Minister, but with national treason which under the Albanian Penal Code carries a sentence of 15 years imprisonment to life imprisonment! We hope that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the President of the Republic will pay due attention to this case, which is the question of the sovereignty of the Republic of Albania in its national territory!
In the case that Malek is still alive, we are dealing with a series of offenses ranging from human trafficking (as a light criminal offense) to terrorism. For such criminal acts, Madam Rajavi’s organization has precedents in Iraq. Malek, if alive, could be equipped with a biometric Albanian passport falsely provided by the system. With such a passport, the holder enjoys visa-free travel in all EU countries and the Schengen area. As a minimum we have human trafficking in this case. If Malek, equipped with such a passport, is sent to Europe to commit terrorist acts, then my homeland is stained, due to the irresponsibility of the current government, with supporting terrorism. Even worse, if Malek is provided with an Italian identity card for between 600-800 pounds sterling, then human trafficking or terrorist infiltration can also be carried out in the United Kingdom; the cost of such a document is completely sufficient to enter the United Kingdom (England) as well. As revealed by an investigation by the UK’s Daily Mail, such counterfeit Italian ID cards are easily purchased on the black market in Albania.
The above assumptions are not an Agatha Christie style fantasy. Until the body of Mojahed Malek Shara’i has been found, they are quite probably a reality. It is the professional and patriotic duty of Albanian journalists, that Malek’s case is not passed over according to the ‘three-day wonder’ principle. Whether a case of extrajudicial murder, or a case of trafficking or, God forbid, a case of attempted terrorism, the consequences fall on Albania, its name, its nationals and not the Government Rama as a signatory to the mysterious agreement for transferring over 3000 Iranian MEK to Albania for humanitarian reasons.
Iranian.com
This week, Maryam Rajavi is due to stage her yearly event in Villepinte, Paris, to glorify terror and war – an event which in recent years has become an advertisement platform for American/Israeli/Saudi rants against Iranians.
At this same time in Iran, Bazaar and shop traders have protested over the instability of foreign currencies and other economic grievances. In a few instances these protests resulted in some localised disturbances. It is clear that all the slogans, even the ones from the groups of provocateurs, were based purely on economic demands asking the government to intervene to sort out the problems.
The Rajavi cult, which is famous for opportunism and riding on each and every event that happens across the globe, is now trying to ride on the wave of the just demands of Iran’s traders – and clearly by the order of the Zionist benefactors attempt to change the nature of their demands into a political stunt.
According to information passed to me by credible sources, a meeting was held in Auvers sur Oise (MEK terrorist planning camp on the outskirts of Paris) to coordinate the Villlepinte event on Saturday under the command of Mahnaz Salimi. Her task is to do the utmost possible to take advantage of these demonstrations by pretending they were organised by and in support of the MEK!
In this meeting Mahnaz Salimi was assigned to create fake news and add this issue to the speech prepared for Maryam Rajavi at their meeting so as to falsely take advantage of these circumstances in Iran.
Other MEK commanders have been assigned to create placards, posters and banners for this plan and Salimi has emphasized that ‘this is an opportunity which we cannot afford to lose as it is imperative to show that we are alive inside Iran’.
Clearly Maryam Rajavi’s cult has no relation whatsoever with the protests inside Iran and is only, as usual, trying to jump on the bandwagon and take advantage of, and derail if possible, the just demands of Iranian citizens. It is also clear that the demands of the demonstrators have never been, nor ever will be, to bring about support for the likes of Maryam Rajavi. The name of Maryam Rajavi or Mojahedin Khalq (MEK) was never heard in any part of any demonstrations as Iranians in general see Maryam Rajavi and the Mojahedin Khalq as an organisation which is proud of being part and parcel of the enemies of Iran and Iranians. Iranians see her as a cheap and sad mercenary who is trying to promote herself for her masters whatever the price.

Born in December 1953, Tehran, Maryam Qajar Azodanlu (later called Rajavi) was raised in a middle-class family. She joined the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO/MEK/PMOI/the Cult of Rajavi) after her older sister was killed by the secret Police of the Shah.
Maryam Qajar Azodanlu served as an organizer of the anti-Shah student movement in Sharif University of Tehran –where she was studying Metallurgy– in the 1970s. She then became an official of the social section of the MKO, where she served until 1981. After the Iranian Revolution, Maryam was a parliamentary candidate in 1980 but she was not elected by the people.
Married to Mehdi Abrishamchi , one of the high-ranking members of the group, she had a baby girl when they fled Iran to join Massoud Rajavi in France.
In France, Maryam became the administrator of Massoud’s office. The close relationship between Maryam and Massoud in the office led to their dramatic marriage in 1985 immediately after she her divorce from Medi Abrishamchi. The marriage was celebrated as an ideological revolution in the history of the group. Maryam Rajavi was named the co-leader of the MKO.
1985, she became Joint-Leader of the PMOI and served in that capacity until 1989 when she became the Secretary General. The marriage signaled a turning point that changed the MKO from an armed political organization to the Cult of Rajavi.
Since then Maryam Rajavi was announces as the role model for all members of the group to leave their own family life and have Massoud in their minds as their only love. Maryam was a tool for Massoud to impose his cult-like practices such as forced divorce, mandatory celibacy and a large number of other violation of human rights against the rank and file in Iraq.
Maryam Rajavi was then selected as the so-called President elect of the NCR, for the transitional government after the so-called overthrow of the Islamic Republic. She is still enduring the title!
After the American invasion to Iraq, Maryam fled to France. Her headquarter in Auver sur d’oise in the suburb of Paris was raided by the French Police in June 2003. She was placed under arrest together with 160 of the group members and the assets of the MKO were frozen by the French judiciary. The Police seized millions of dollars from the group’s headquarters. The group was accused of preparing to commit or finance acts of terrorism and money laundering.
A dozen of brainwashed supporters of the Cult of Rajavi set themselves on fire to protest the arrest of Maryam. Two women were killed eventually. French Police released the cult leader to stop the horrible scenes of self-immolations in European capitals.
Maryam was the first assistant of her disappeared husband Massoud in his quest for sexual abuse of female members of their cult. She was charged with the responsibility of mental preparation of members of the group’s so-called Elite Council to get naked in front Massoud and consequently get in bed with him.
In July 2010, the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal issued an arrest warrant for 39 MEK members, including Rajavi, for crimes against humanity committed while suppressing the 1991 uprisings in Iraq. According to the testimonies by former members of the group. Maryam told the MKO forces “Take the Kurds under your tanks, save the bullets for the Iranian soldiers.”

There are people out there who are leaders of cults of personality and they do destructive harm against their followers emotionally, psychologically, physically and financially. Actually there is no cult, without a charismatic leader who abuses people to obey him unquestionably.

The Mujahedin Khalq Organization meets all traits of a destructive cult of personality. The disappeared leader of the group Massoud Rajavi had complete control over his followers. He never answered questions on the decisions he made and he was never accountable to no one in his group, the MKO.
What was Maryam Rajavi’s role to establish Massoud’s cult of personality?
According to Dr. Alexandra stein, cult expert and sociologist, “the most inner circles around a cult leader protect him or her from the masses outside.” For Massoud Rajavi the most inner circle is called the “Elite Council” which is exclusively consisted of female members.
“Some cult leaders are surrounded by their immediate lieutenant, their wives “, writes Dr. Stein. “They are in charge of looking after his personal needs as well as leading the organization on a daily basis.”
Certain female defectors of the cult of Rajavi are living eye-witnesses of the existence of such a protective female wall around Massoud Rajavi. Batoul Soltani, who left the group a decade ago, revealed that Massoud Rajavi had married a number of higher layer members of the Elite Council.
She revealed Rajavi’s passion to have sexual relationship with his numerous wives. The surprising part of her testimony was that Massoud Rajavi was aided by his third wife Maryam Rajavi – the so-called president elect of the MKO – to gain his sexual ambitions. Batul clarified how Maryam managed the ceremonies called Salvation Dance to manipulate high ranking members of the Elite Council – of which she was a member too – into getting married and having sex with Massoud.
What made Maryam Rajavi act as a catalyst for her husband’s ambitions?
Based on Alex Stein’s research, Maryam Rajavi’s function was to “implement Massoud Rajavi’s wishes and serving as a proxy for him while his whereabouts remain secret. But, she, too, will likely be dispensable should he so desire.”
Wheather Massoud Rajavi is dead or has desired to dispense Maryam as his successor, Maryam is now the symbol of feminism and women’s rights in the masquerade shows the MKO launches. However, Rajavi’s “all-female leadership” also functions as a shield against any probable dissent by the side of male members of his cult of personality.
Dr. Stein notifies the MKO as a cult in which “Rajavi appoints authority figures in the hierarchy based not on expertise, but because of ideological rank.”
She then describes how the inner feminine circle was formed around Massoud Rajavi: “these rankings change on a dime, depending on Rajavi’s whim. All one point, in a major ideological move, men were removed from any leadership posts and an-all-female leadership replaced them (with the exception, of course, of Rajavi himself) – presumably in an effort to keep the men subservient and prevent the development of internal resistance to Rajavi. More recently seven members of Rajavi’s inner circle have disappeared and the MEK watches suspect they are likely to have been “eliminated” as no longer being of use and potentially dangerous “because of the information they carry.”
To maintain his hegemony over his cult members, Massoud Rajavi victimized hundreds of people and Maryam was his number one assistant to gain the utmost power of saint immortal leader. With the disappearance of Massoud, Maryam is endeavoring to preserve the same authority over the cult of Rajavi. Has she been successful, the process of defection from the group would stop.
