MKO’s bloody plan to leave Camp Ashraf

Everyone knows that the end year 2011 is the final deadline for the Mujahedin Khalq Organization’s stay in Iraqi soil where the group has occupied a 16000 –square meter area that has housed 3400 men and women. The group has played as a political actor for decades both before and after the fall of Baath regime, by making relations with Iraqi and European politicians and paying bribes to them. Now, we should think of weather the organization intends to leave Iraqi soil after thirty years or not?

To answer the question, I doubtlessly say:”Never”, because of my various conversations with over ten former members of the MKO. Following those talks I came into horrible conclusions.

There is a building called No.34 that houses Massoud Rajavi, according to former members including Abolfazl Fereidooni and especially Mrs. Maryam Sanjabi who had been a member of the Leadership Council of the MKO. My doubt vanished when I talked with Ali Qezel Qarshi. Mehdi Naderi and Shahram Heidary a few weeks ago. They said that the organization had ordered them to defend that building to the last breath. They even told them to defend it Ashura-Style [referring to Imam Hussein’s Martyrdom].

Some of former members also speak of underground tunnels and basements of the mentioned building. I can courageously say that the MKO’s arms are kept there. For instance, I quote from Mr. Ali Qezel Qarshi : ” in one case I saw more than 20 different types of arms such as mortar Kelashnikov ,after sometime I asked about those arms but I was told that they were given to Iraqi forces. I exactly knew that were never handed over to Iraqi forces.

Other former members speak of digging ditches in the camp and of making cold weapons in order to slow the move of Iraqi forces. Meanwhile they launch a propaganda attack against Iraqi government and create a massacre.[all former members],unanimously believe that the MKO does not intend to go and doesn’t hesitate to victimize all members to fulfill this objective.

Camp Ashraf is highly important to the group and to prove it, one can refer to some of Maryam Rajavi’s recent speeches in which she asserts Camp Ashraf as the most important strategic point for the organization and the MKO does not leave it at all.

To pressure Iraqi government, the MKO pays large amounts of money to European officials including Lord Corbett and the mayor of Ouver Sur d’Oise in France, some US senators and also some Iraqi officials with links to former Baath regime. They gathered signatures from some of our deceived Sunni countrymen. Iraqi Council of tribes issued a statement calling Iraqi government, United Nations and Red Cross to grant guarantee letters to save lives and properties of the group members. Besides, they collected some signatures of European civilians under the cover of human rights to disguise the MKO’s face.

False propaganda is absolutely one of the most important weapons used against the Iraqi government by the MKO. As it happened several months ago, some fanatic members of the group will commit suicide to instigate people’s emotions and then they will put the accusation on the Iraqi government for their killing and everything will take place by the side of building No.43 where the blood of murderers and innocents will mix. …

Open Letter from Sahar Family Foundation to Martin Kobler

Sahar Family Foundation has written a letter to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr Martin Kobler, regarding the latest developments at the base of the Rajavi cult in Iraq.

With kind respects and best wishes for your task regarding the issue of the inhabitants of Camp New Iraq (formerly Ashraf garrison), we would like to inform you of the following:

According to information gained from inside Ashraf garrison, Massoud Rajavi arranged a video conference with Ashraf inhabitants towards the end of September 2011. Participation in this session was mandatory for all cult members residing in Ashraf. In this conference, which lasted for 8 continuous hours, Rajavi tried to prepare his followers for the possible UN interviews beforehand.

He directly threatened members of his cult that during interviews they should not say or write anything but their names and the period they have been in Ashraf garrison, and should not mention anything about wishing to leave the base of the cult since this would produce severe consequences for them.

In his lengthy speech, Rajavi tried to frighten people against any and every possible UN action and emphasized that they would gain no benefit from the UN interviews and the UN intervention and it could even harm them. He told them that if they do anything except what he has asked them to do they would be arrested and handed over to the Iranian regime where they would be tortured and executed.

During his speech, Rajavi said that the Iraqi government, the EU, the UN, the ICRC and any other agency cannot make any decisions and the US is the only agency that makes all the decisions. In this respect he tried to give hope to his followers that with the US administration’s approval, the conditions that the organization used to enjoy under Saddam Hussein would be reinstated.

The information received from Ashraf garrison also indicates that all members have been put on a state of alert against the Iraqi forces and specific plans have been made in this regard. These plans are mainly defensive but some plans for ambushing the Iraqi forces and disarming them have also been made. The members are told that after disarming the Iraqi forces they should hand over the captured weapons to their superiors and wait to be told what to do next. It should be mentioned that during the April clash with the Iraqi forces some weapons were seized from Iraqi soldiers which are still being held by the Rajavi cult.

There has also been news that the leaders of the cult are actively seeking another clash with the Iraqi forces in order to eliminate some of their discontented members as they did in previous cases. This has been done several times in the MeK cult before. During the invasion of Iraq by allied forces in 2003, the leaders of the Rajavi cult murdered some of those who wanted to leave and later announced that they had been killed during the bombardments. In the following years as more dissidents fled Ashraf garrison it was revealed that of the over 50 persons that the MeK claimed were killed as the result of the bombardments, a maximum number of 5 had actually been killed in this way and the rest were eliminated by the cult itself.

What we would specifically like to draw your attention to is that inside Ashraf garrison the brainwashing sessions called “current operations” are proceeding with intensity. The reason for these delays and time-killing by the leaders of the cult and preventing the UN from carrying out its tasks is that they want to identify those who are potential deserters and also to mentally prepare their members for the interviews.

We therefore on behalf of the suffering families, who are the only right representatives of the inhabitants of the garrison and are truly following their best interests, urge you to adopt the following means.

– Arrange for the hundreds of families of members, who have been picketing outside the garrison for nearly two years and merely request to visit their loved ones which the leaders of the cult have denied, to visit the inhabitants during the transfer and interview process.

– Make sure that such meetings are carried out without the presence of the MeK officials. It is necessary for the International Red Cross and preferably the next of kin of interviewees to be present in order to gain the rapport and trust of the asylum seekers.

– Pass adequate information about their actual situation to these people since they have been away from the real world for many years and have no clue whatsoever about the circumstances outside the cult. Their only source of knowledge has been the cult leaders, so they must be well informed beforehand.

As before, Sahar Family Foundation declares its readiness for all possible cooperation. We would like to share all our resources in any appropriate way with the international organizations in order to reach a quick and peaceful solution for the dilemma of Ashraf garrison.

After months of excruciatingly nit picking and slow negotiations to finally reach an agreement to peacefully and securely move the residents of Camp Ashraf to another safe facility in which their individual claims for refugee status and relocation can be worked out, Rajavi has (inevitably) come up with yet more excuses and stalling tactics to prevent any movement of residents from the camp.

Rajavi has been sidelined because neither she nor her husband, MEK leader Massoud Rajavi, actually represent the interests of the residents and are only interested in maintaining their cultist control over the camp’s residents. Moving the residents is the first step to these individuals regaining their rightful freedoms.

Because of this Rajavi is still trying to delay the inevitable by creating all kinds of outlandish excuses.[..]

Families representing Camp Ashraf residents want fast and peaceful resolution

The most unhelpful aspect of the negotiations to close Camp Ashraf and remove the residents from Iraq is that the Western agents continue to act on the myth that the people inside the camp Families representing Camp Ashraf residents want fast and peaceful resolution are somehow a single, discrete entity with no connection to the outside world and no say in their own treatment. Thus it is reported without context, analysis or explanation that the Mojahedin-e Khalq will need to be transferred to a separate facility – specifically the former U.S. military base Camp Liberty. Once there they will need to be interviewed by the UNHCR for decisions to be made on their refugee status, with UNAMI overseeing Iraqi conduct at the new camp. And out of this process their futures will be determined.

But even this, ‘the desired outcome’, is being promoted without the actual cooperation of the MEK leader.
This proposed mass movement of the camp’s residents can only give rise to a pseudo angst-ridden hand-wringing which at one time fears mass suicide, at another their mass deportation to Iran where they will be tortured and executed, it fears they are labelled as terrorists and will not be ‘allowed’ to come to the West, and then fears that they will come to the West and pose a security threat. Underpinning the whole Washington-led negotiation process is the basic principle ‘how do we conserve the MEK’.

Behind the naive and unhelpful scenario of convincing Massoud Rajavi to agree the mass relocation of his captives to an open camp over which he has no control lies a blatant violation of fundamental human rights which is taking place before everybody’s eyes but which nobody apparently wants to acknowledge. This is because focusing on this situation would remove any legitimacy from the negotiations. It would expose the reality behind the myth; Massoud Rajavi is nobody’s representative. It would mean acknowledging that Rajavi has falsely imprisoned over three thousand individuals and is daily violating their basic human rights and it would mean moving forward on that basis.

There are currently around 400 families at the gates of the camp. They have come determined to rescue their loved ones and protect them from harm. These are the true representatives of their captured relatives in the camp. Why do they still have no voice? Why do international agencies ignore them and pretend they have no stake in the negotiations and outcome.

Over the past eight years family after family has tried to assert their basic right – to meet with their closest relatives in a secure and private atmosphere outside the control of the MEK. The demand pre-dates the decision to close Camp Ashraf, and will certainly post-date any moves at the camp. Indeed, the biggest scandal is that this demand has nothing to do with the Iraqi determination to close the camp before the end of 2011, but it is still being ignored.

While nobody expected the MEK leaders to welcome the families with open arms, and nobody expected the MEK’s callous and cynical owners to care for the individual welfare of their gladiators and slaves, it is shocking that even internationally renowned human rights organisations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the UNHRC have not uttered a word about this situation. These protectors of human rights may as well have been paid by the Rajavis for their spurious appeals to the Iraqis to ‘protect the human rights’ the camp’s residents. Not one single word of criticism has been said against the Rajavi’s blatant and cruel denials of these families’ just demands. Not one word of criticism has been levelled against the Rajavis’ daily abuse of human rights inside the camp in spite of the on-going testimonies of both past and recent escapees.

It is the urgent obligation of every humanitarian agency involved to prefix the mythical negotiations with the unequivocal demand that Rajavi immediately and peacefully open the gate of Camp Ashraf and allow the people inside to have contact with their families. There can be no legal or moral obstacle or objection to such a course of action.

Human Rights Abuse in the MEK

Ex MKO members call on MSF to stop medical abuse in Camp Ashraf

We are a group of former members of pmoi( People’s Mujahedin Organization ) who had been living for a long period of time in Iraq and in different pmoi garrisons . We intend to inform you about important and tangible subjects which we experienced them while we were in pmoi.

Unfortunately , during past years the leaders and operatives of this organization have tried their best to show different image of themselves by resorting to different associations , medical centers, humanitarian and charity organizations throughout European and American countries and in the name of the orphan women and children as well as the wounded and injured members of Ashraf garrison gathered a huge quantity of medical apparatus and equipments as well as money , medicine , food , and clothes or by grave money laundering( as a result of the money laundering they are under prosecution in Europe and United States), they were able to pay and compensate the costs of their political gatherings, demonstrations, and meetings.

We as the former members of this organization who had been present in that organization for a long time can assure you that unfortunately the most of those equipments and apparatuses which were received by the leaders of pmoi, did not reach to the hands of those needed and instead they were directly utilized by pmoi leadership and operatives for personal and other organizational purposes or they were sold in different Iraqi markets and the money had been utilized in Europe and United States for pmoi leadership’s political and propaganda purposes.

We know for sure that the huge amount of those clothes , medicine and food which were given to pmoi operatives and leadership by the US Army for the members did not reach to the hands of those members who needed them badly and instead those items mentioned above were sold in Iraqi markets and some cheaper items with bad quality were purchased by pmoi operatives to replace them , and there is no doubt that the medical equipments and apparatuses which were given by US Army also were utilized somewhere else.
We know for sure that during the past two bloody scuffle between pmoi members and Iraqi forces many of those members got injured and wounded but unfortunately those injured and wounded who some of them were bleeding badly were kept in inappropriate places without enough medical care just because the pmoi leadership wanted to take advantage of them for political and propaganda purposes, and as a result of that some of those injured and wounded members died . For this reason , we who are friends of those stranded members in Ashraf camp and we know them as our family and friends , urge you as the director of the freelance doctors in Iraq who are in humanitarian and medical mission in Iraq to do the following requests:

1. Whatever you can convey and send your rapid and emergency aides to our friends and families who are captives of pmoi ideology and thoughts in Ashraf as soon as possible and by cooperation with Iraqi government beget opportunities who those stranded members can refer to you personally and individually to use your humanitarian and medical aides utterly.

2. We are urging you to give your medical aides to each pmoi individual and needy members without the presence of pmoi operatives and leadership as intermediate and middleman.

3. The other requests which the pmoi medical center asks you for money , medicine, and medical equipments , as we mentioned above should be handled carefully because as we said according to 25 years of experience that we have in pmoi, those requests will be used in political and propaganda purposes and unfortunately the humane aspect in those requests by the pmoi leadership is very weak and worthless , for that reason you and your staff should be very careful and vigilant in dealing with the pmoi operatives.

We are very grateful and thankful to you for helping our brothers and sisters directly in Ashraf garrison and we hope that our friends specially our sisters and the women captives in Ashraf garrison can get in touch with you and your staff directly and use your medical aides, and also you and your staff can see them and cure their physical and psychological problems and also you by knowing them will find out more about the facts and warnings which we mentioned to you in our letter .

We also got in touch with your colleagues in Paris and informed them about the facts which we mentioned them to you .

Only a few months ago there were 3400 residents in Camp Ashraf. Today there are 3200, and the missing 200 people are now surfacing in western countries. Mojahedin-e Khalq may attack Iraqi and Iranian Embassies across the west

Three weeks ago, nine MEK loyalists were sent to Canada where they have citizenship rights. The move was carried out with cooperation between Canada, UNAMI and Massoud Rajavi and his commanders in the camp. There are almost a hundred more residents in Camp Ashraf with links to Canada, but Massoud Rajavi has not released them at this stage.

Shortly after their arrival it was clear why they had been sent; Canadian political opinion had been manipulated by a propaganda campaign to misrepresent the situation at the camp with these MEK members as ‘witnesses’. On 16 December four of these MEK members from Camp Ashraf filed complaints against the Iraqi authorities in a Washington court while the Iraqis have opened cases against the MEK for violence in the camp long ago. It is now clear that the Obama administration could not prevent the CIA from bringing these MEK members from Canada, and they will not be able to stop others from coming. In the same way, France will not be able to prevent the MEK who are now in Washington from travelling to the MEK’s second base in Paris. Informed sources believe that their transfer via Frankfurt is due next week.

The MEK have been transferring members illegally around the world for three decades, there is nothing to suggest they cannot continue now. Indeed, with a little careful scrutiny we can now see what happened to every one of the missing 200 and why.

Three other MEK loyalists have recently left Camp Ashraf and are now somewhere in Europe. The significance of this is that these three individuals are the MEK’s top explosives experts, trained by Saddam Hussein’s army. The three were tracked from Camp Ashraf until they reached Europe where the trail went cold. They are presumably now in one of the MEK’s many European bases. It is known that Massoud Rajavi is still considering whether to launch last ditch attacks on Iraqi and/or Iranian embassies worldwide.

Massoud Rajavi is stuck in the bowels of Camp Ashraf. He is being forced to confront the probability that his plan to maintain Camp Ashraf against all odds will fail and he will, sooner rather than later, be forced to evacuate the camp.

In preparation for this second – and far more likely scenario – he has held indoctrination meetings with selected residents of Camp Ashraf. These in the main are the older, veteran members, the sick and the disaffected. He has told them that if the Iraqis “attack” the camp to remove them, they will be either massacred or, if they survive, sent to Iran and executed, therefore they must do all they can to resist such an outcome, even to die in the attempt to save him and the MEK. He has callously and cynically prepared them for martyrdom over a false cause. Of course they have no way of checking the reality of what Rajavi has told them.

So what of the other residents of Camp Ashraf who are not being indoctrinated for martyrdom? Quite simply they are part of a process of asset stripping the camp. Anyone for whom Rajavi has any use whatsoever, of any rank or any ability, will be removed from the camp and sent to Europe and North America. Indeed, this process has already begun. This is why 200 are missing. They have already been smuggled out of the camp.

Some of those sent to the west are people who can make problems if they get arrested in Iraq. MEK loyalists like Keshmiri and Kolahi who were responsible for exploding the Hizb-e Jomhouri HQ and the Prime Minister’s office in the early 1980s. Both have been seen recently in the suburbs of Cologne in Germany.

More will be coming as Rajavi asset strips the camp before handover.

An agreement was struck during the last week between the US and the Iraqi secret services to remove Massoud Rajavi from Camp Ashraf so the Iraqi plan to close the camp can start. The only place Rajavi will be safe is in the MEK’s second base at Auvers sur Oise near Paris. The Americans will facilitate his transfer and then surface him as a signal to begin the closure of the camp.

Preparations are underway to re-launch Massoud Rajavi after nearly nine years in hiding. One plan which is being considered right now in Paris is to coordinate attacks on Iraqi and Iranian embassies as elements in America are really hurt by Iraq’s refusal to grant US citizens immunity from prosecution, and by Iran’s refusal to compromise its nuclear programme – not to mention the downing of a CIA drone plane. It would appear that the CIA backed mission to transfer Camp Ashraf residents to Canada, America and Europe is only a preliminary to further activities.
Then will it be clear how rewarding Rajavi’s asset stripping will be to the MEK’s backers.

MKO leader incites war on Iraq

According to a report published by Habilian Association database (families of terror victims in Iran), Rajavi has ordered the commanders of Camp Ashraf to be ready to resist against the Iraqi forces, saying that it is not important if all the members of the group are killed in the Camp.

The main leader of the anti-Iran terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), Rajavi, in remarks interpreted as informally declaring war on Iraq cautioned that he would not allow Baghdad to expel the group from Iraq, and stressed that he will keep the MKO in the country even if it costs the lives of all the group members.

According to a report published by Habilian Association database (families of terror victims in Iran), Rajavi has ordered the commanders of Camp Ashraf – the MKO’s main training center located in Iraq’s Northern Diyala province – to be ready to resist against the Iraqi forces, saying that it is not important if all the members of the group are killed in the Camp.

Latest news from Iraq indicate that they are making lots of catapults, arbalests, slings, bows and arrows to resist against Iraq and sets the stage for clash with Iraqi government. He also ordered his commanders to strengthen the military positions at the camp and in the surrounding areas by erecting numerous bulwarks and hurdles around the Camp and be ready for a war with the Iraqi government.

The MKO, whose main stronghold is in Iraq, is blacklisted by much of the international community, including the United States. It is behind a slew of assassinations and bombings inside Iran, a number of EU parliamentarians said in a recent letter in which they slammed a British court decision to remove the MKO from the British terror list. The EU officials also added that the group has no public support within Iran because of their role in helping Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).

The group started assassination of the citizens and officials after the revolution in a bid to take control of the newly established Islamic Republic. It killed several of Iran’s new leaders in the early years after the revolution, including the then President, Mohammad Ali Rajayee, Prime Minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar and the Judiciary Chief, Mohammad Hussein Beheshti who were killed in bomb attacks by MKO members in 1981.

U.S. officials warn that MEK is obstructing humanitarian solution in Ashraf

Washington, DC – According to top U.S. officials, Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) leadership is blocking efforts to protect residents at the organization’s encampment at Camp Ashraf in Iraq.

A December 31st deadline set by the Iraqi government to close the camp is being leveraged by pro-MEK advocates in their campaign to have the group removed from the U.S. list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations. They say that residents of Camp Ashraf could face a “massacre” at the hands of Iraqi security forces and that the terrorist designation only increases this risk.

But U.S. officials testified before the House Foreign Affairs Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee last week that efforts to peacefully resolve the standoff are being rebuffed by MEK leadership. U.S. Special Adviser on Camp Ashraf Daniel Fried said MEK leadership has impeded a refugee resettlement process and interfered with the UN’s ability to conduct interviews with individuals at the encampment.

Fried told Congress that the Administration’s efforts have been met “intransigence by Camp Ashraf leadership to agree to any relocation plan other than en masse relocation outside Iraq.” The MEK’s leadership has demanded that the group be relocated only as a single unit, rather than allowing residents to relocate individually.

According to leaked diplomatic cables, Iraqi President Nouri Al Maliki is under pressure from Iran to close Camp Ashraf, which straddles the Iranian border. Moving the residents away from the border has been proposed as a means to defuse Iranian pressure while allowing individuals at Camp Ashraf to seek resettlement elsewhere through the United Nations.

But the UN refugee relocation process, in order to be successfully completed, requires unmonitored interviews between residents of Camp Ashraf. MEK blocked this process, demanding that their leadership be present during the process, until September of this year when they announced they would allow interviews to go forward.

Immediately after that announcement, however, MEK advocates argued that the group should be allowed to stay at Ashraf beyond the December 31 Iraqi deadline to allow time for the process to go forward. And now, U.S. officials indicate MEK is obstructing the process, suggesting that the leadership may be attempting to delay the camp’s closure indefinitely.

“The U.S. government is taking every responsible action possible, working with the government of Iraq, the United Nations, and our allies and partners, and in contact with the residents of Camp Ashraf and those who speak for them, to assure that any relocation …is done humanely,” said Ambassador Fried.

But lawmakers at the hearing placed the onus on the United States rather than the MEK. Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX) said the MEK are “freedom fighters” not terrorists. Dana Rohrbacher (R-CA) implied that the MEK’s designation as a terrorist group was the main stumbling block in preventing a resolution to the Ashraf situation. The MEK’s supporters have engaged in a massive public relations and lobbying campaign to pressure lawmakers to support the group’s bid to be taken off the Foreign Terrorist Organizations list.

Rohrbacher challenged the sincerity of the administration, saying the MEK is “a secular opposition group…a peaceful community of political refugees which do not deserve a terrorist label.” He warned that if violence broke at Camp Ashraf, “The blood in the sand will stain the Gucci shoes of those in the State Department.”

Also testifying was Ambassador Lincoln P. Bloomfield, who works on behalf of Akin Gump, a group retained by pro-MEK Iranian American Community of Northern California to lobby for the organization’s removal from the terror list. Bloomfield said the MEK is not a terrorist group.

Ambassador Fried challenged such assertions, and summarized what he said is the long history of MEK involvement in terrorism. For instance, said Fried, “in April 1992, the MEK became one of the few groups to attempt an attack on U.S. soil when it launched near-simultaneous attacks in thirteen countries, including against the Iranian mission to the United Nations in New York.”

Co-director of the Brookings Institute Elizabeth Farris testified that a resolution needs the involvement of the international community. “Given the extraordinary politicization of Camp Ashraf, if durable situations are to be found, the situation needs to be depoliticized by relying on multilateral actors applying internationally-recognized standards and practices.” During his closing statement, representative Rohrabacher acknowledged that the MEK leadership can be more helpful in reaching a resolution.

Despite the complexity of the situation, Fried said “a humane and relocation is possible, but it will take intense and serious efforts by all parties.”

“The leaders of Ashraf…we encourage them to step forward…so that there can be a mutually agreed arrangement rather than something that is unilateral. Unilateral doesn’t work.”

Terrorist group MeK and their supporters were demanding European Union FMs to take position against Iraqi government, and condemn its deadline to exploit them; or accept their Mass asylum, but the EU Did not act according to their demand.

Struan Stevenson, member of European parliament and MeK’s supporter says in this regard:

UN and European Union tell us that we should trust the security of Ashraf residents by Iraqi authorities. Have not we all heard this before? We are told that we should respect to the Iraq’s sovereignty. Well Hitler had sovereignty over the Jews in Nazi Germany. UN and European Union! Wake up For the sake of God!

So, it should be stated that MeK and its supporters also did not benefit from the involvement of Europe in This issue and, hereby, could not provide background to survive their organization. As before, they were dreaming it through intervening of the UN UNHCR in this matter.

Also in this time, the MeK had intended to legitimate their turbulence and blackmail based on possible support of EU and its stance against Iraqi government’s decision.

Frustrated of their inability in abuse of the Europe Union, Maryam Rajavi says in this regard: "Hiding behind the "Iraqi sovereignty" to justify the indifference toward crimes of this government against Ashraf absolutely is unacceptable."

Now, MeK seek to counter Iraqi government and create conflict at the end of the deadline.

From now, MeK leadership is preparing the troops to sacrifice, also he is inducing them that being Ashrafi means that never will we retreat, even one step; and with our deaths, we force the Iraqi government to withdraw. However, until last week, he was promising the desperate forces that the US, the UN, and the EU will protect them.

The members who reside in Camp Ashraf are just like babies who are in their mothers’ womb and have no idea of the outside world to which they have no contact. Camp Ashraf is a prison where marriages have been banned and male members have been ordered to suppress their attraction to women, all by the orders of the camp’s absentee leaders, Massoud and Maryam Rajavi.

The declared purpose of Camp Ashraf — to serve as a headquarters for the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK), a militant group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., and to start another revolution — came as a welcome opportunity for Rajavi’s suggestible supporters.

The price Rajavi charged for admission to Camp Ashraf was a complete surrender to the cause. Members had to relinquish their pasts, their current lives, and whatever hold they had on their tenuous futures. And now, after enduring 25 years of manipulative tactics to keep their minds and hearts suppressed, the residents of Camp Ashraf face imminent difficulties. In 2003, U.S. troops were able to force them to relinquish their weapons in exchange for U.S. protection.

Now the Iraqi government has given a deadline of December 2011 for the residents to evacuate. With the downfall of Saddam Hussein, who provided Rajavi with financial and military support, they are no longer welcome. Nor can it be believed that they are any longer relevant to their original cause.

The Rajavis, meanwhile, have left the residents to the camp. Maryam resides comfortably in Paris, and Massoud is in hiding. What reason, then, for the continued existence of Camp Ashraf? Why do the Rajavis hang onto their followers in their prison-like enclave, even with the deadline fast approaching? They understand well that without the camp, the MEK would lose its legitimacy, and so, therefore, would the Rajavis.

According to a report by Fars News Agency, the MKO ringleaders have prevented the members of the group from meeting their relatives for the last two years in a bid to prevent their defection and escape from the camp.

The Rajavis have collected millions of dollars from supporters, yet none of their money has been used to free the people in Camp Ashraf. They have spent millions on legal fees to fight the foreign terrorist designation and on advertisements in major U.S. newspapers naming several U.S. figures as supporters of their delisting, even hiring a top lobbying firm in the U.S. to help them in their efforts. And yet, where are the ads to promote the freeing of the people in Camp Ashraf?

Camp Ashraf is their bargaining tool. They falsely claim that they must be delisted in order to free the camp residents, despite the fact that they were offered several opportunities over the years to be relocated to safe locations outside of Iraq. Rajavi halted such actions, as he would no longer be able to use the human rights issue as a scapegoat to elicit sympathy. It is in his best interests to keep the residents in harm’s way, as this is his key to accessing and manipulating U.S. politicians and the American public.

Recently, Maryam Rajavi, issued the execution orders personally and condemns to death all the dissidents who refrain from obeying her orders and all those who plan to defect from the MKO, reported FNA.

The international community must defy the wishes of Massoud Rajavi to keep his hostages there for his own self-interest.
