This week it has been revealed that Massoud Rajavi released an audio message during the month of Ramezan addressing his 3000+ followers.

Rajavi tells them ‘anyone who wants to leave can go to Hell, as I have no use for you. If I have one thousand loyal devotees I can do anything’. This week it has been revealed that Massoud Rajavi

According to this proclamation, ‘the MEK will not pay a penny for anyone if they choose to leave Iraq’, (even though they worked for tens of years for him for nothing).

This speech comes in the context that Rajavi has made it almost impossible to get out of the camp and also that the MEK has shown itself desperate to hold on to the 100+ residents who the UN have already transferred to Albania.

The MEK have sent commanders from Iraq and Paris to offer them material help and other forms of support in order to keep control of them. It is clear from the reports of the refugees that the MEK is trying to recreate Camp Ashraf/Liberty in Albania.

Human Shields to Protect MKO

MKO leaders adopt inhuman approaches to use members as human shields

Reportedly, Qayda Kambash, an Iraqi parliamentarian, in her latest comment has remarked that “the reason of delay in expulsion of MKO members from Iraq is due to the pressure put by MKO leaders on the members.” She has further added that “MKO leaders’ fear of devastation of their group has led them to use Ashraf and Liberty residents as human shields to protect their own lives. That is why the group has resorted to lies, deception and suppression of own members.”

Ms. Kambash is not the first to make a comment about the inhuman approach by MKO to use members as human shields. Through any taken opportunity in the past, there has been an attempt by ex-members and other experts to tell the world of the concerns about the members not living but enslaved by MKO against their own will. Of course, the world couldn’t but they could easily see how the terrorist cult was exploiting insiders as human shields to safeguard its own entity rather than being the least concerned about the members themselves. At least through the past two years and since the implementation of decision by the Iraqi government to relocate members from Camp Ashraf, the Rajavies proved to be determined to preserve the insiders as human shields to construct a secure bulwark against a national and global decisiveness.

The transfer of the control of Camp Ashraf to Iraqi forces since 2008 and the Iraqi government’s determination to make a decisive decision about the residents of Ashraf enraged the group’s leaders and soon MKO propaganda machine initiated an intensive campaign against the Iraqi government. MKO’s first reaction was arranging a series of suicidal operations. On July 29, 2009 there was a report of deadly clashes between hundreds of Iraqi police forces and the members of MKO residing in Camp Ashraf that left 11 members dead and scores injured from the both side. While the reasons for the clash was said to be unclear at first, few knew that it was a pre-organized self-destruction plan by a number of Rajavi’s devotees to provoke Iraqi forces to trigger the clash that was well videotaped and broadcasted by the organization itself.

While the Iraqi forces and their commanders were still under the shock of the suicidal and violent behavior of the camp residents, MKO felt easy to feed its propaganda machine for months. Of course, soon the Iraqi authorities, not at first acquainted with the group’s self-destructive tactics, became more cautious to adopt appropriate methods when dealing with MKO. Despite all these efforts, MKO has been focusing on an interlocking violent-political campaign to draw attention of the international community through fraudulent claims and misinformation, most of which are distributed and circulated by the group’s paid or naïve political advocates. By rising tension at the residential camps against the Iraqi plans that are aimed at rightful measures to have more control over the camp, MKO leaders also intend to show a martyred image of the residents to question the legitimacy and capability of the Iraqi government in holding the control of Camp Liberty.

Accommodated with all the means of comfort and luxury in their residences in European countries, leaders claim to be making their best to protect the members in Iraq. But none of them feels any responsibility to explain why the cost of defending MKO is to be paid just by the rank and files. As evidences show, many MKO high-rankings can leave Iraq and reside in another country if necessary. In other words, they are not at all worried about their own future and thus, there is no need to risk their life and line as human shields in protection of the group in Iraq. The best means at hand at the present are the residents at Camp Liberty to be victimized as human-shields to bulwark Rajavi’s cult structure. However, as the international community is misinformed of what is really happening within the camp, comments made by personalities like Ms. Kambash can be trusted as evidences that MKO leaders are determined to use members residing at Camp Liberty as hostages and human shields just for organizational purposes.

Save Enslaved MKO Members

Those lobbying to return MKO members to Ashraf are building the altar to scarify them

It is no more the question of keeping forces on alert near the Iranian borders looking for an opportunity to strike at the pillars of the regime to inherit the reins of power after its fall. Rather, it is a desperate need to protect very same disarmed forces against any attack that threaten their life just in the middle of Iraq. The members of MKO deserved any form of confrontation when they were fully armed with Saddam’s donated weapons to be used against Iranian and Iraqi people. Now the deplorable condition of these poor men, the outcasts of a failed militia with a countless record of bloodshed, call for a universal decisiveness to save them, now wallowed in the mire of a personality cult.

The UN special envoy to Iraq, Martin Kobler, knows well, if not better than anybody, what is going on within Camp Liberty, the temporary camp that houses these people, when he expressed concern at human rights abuses therein. In his latest remarks, Mr. Kobler cited reports from some residents that camp leaders are keeping residents from leaving, from participating in the resettlement process, from contacting family members outside Iraq, and from medical treatment.

And what is the response by the group’s leaders to end the sufferings of the members? We witness everyday protests and demonstrations by sympathizers and supporters of MKO outside UN headquarters and on the streets of the European countries calling for the protection and guaranteed rights of the residents as well as condemning Mr. Kobler. In her recent attack, Maryam Rajavi, the self-appointed president elect of the group, strongly condemned Kobler for what she referred to as deceitful efforts to present false reports to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General.

The heavy propaganda and lobbying struggle by MKO’s widespread network in European countries demanding to return Camp Liberty residents to their previous camp, Camp Ashraf, is no more considered a humanitarian gesture to save suffering members. Everybody knows that Camp Ashraf does not qualify a more secure place than Liberty. The number of the insiders killed in Camp Ashraf when MKO’s leaders deliberately provoked a few confrontations with Iraqi forces, many of whom were happy to avenge the ethnic cleansing raids the group carried out for Saddam back in the day, exceeds those killed in Camp Liberty’s mortar attacks. Mr. Kobler had also provided a warning of the group’s potentiality in provoking and waging violence at the time.

Is Camp Ashraf really a sanctuary and does MKO care about the safety and protection of the abandoned insiders in Iraq? The first reaction the Iraqi Government received from MKO after announcing its decision to close Camp Ashraf in a decision to expel its residents from the country was an angry backlash and threatening tone. And the first practical approach by MKO was to provoke the Iraqi forces, not acquainted with the group’s self-destructive tactics, to mount an aggressive response to evacuation of Ashraf. Then, anyone can say what would be the fate of the insiders if they were ever permitted to return to Camp Ashraf.

MKO is at the end of line in Iraq and it has enough devoted members active under a pro-democracy masquerade around the world. But MKO is facing a conundrum over the insiders’ future uncertainty in Iraq, a big bulk of members still waiting to be accepted as refugees in third countries. The problem can be solved in the way that would best benefit MKO. What the group needs at the present to fuel its propaganda machine for a full move is sacrifice. Where else can MKO leaders find a better slaughter house than Camp Ashraf to make about 3000 martyrs? In fact, those lobbying to return members to Ashraf are building the altar for MKO to scarify poor insiders.

UN Envoy Martin Kobler has detailed growing complaints about human rights violations by leaders of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MeK), an Iranian rebel faction, against its followers in Iraq’s Camp Hurriya. UN Envoy: Mujahedin-e Khalq Leaders Abusing Followers in Iraq

The MeK was a long-standing member of the US State Department’s list of terrorist organizations, but after heavy lobbying the group was dropped from the list last year. The group was allied to Saddam Hussein and retains a significant presence at Hurriya, and formerly Camp Liberty during the US occupation.

Accord to Kobler, the UN receives “hundreds” of reports every day about violations by MeK leaders against people inside Camp Hurriya, restricting their movement, forbidding them from contacting family members, and keeping them from leaving to participate in a UN resettlement effort.

MeK spokesman Shahin Gobadi angrily rejected the allegations, insisting they are “baseless” and accusing the UN of covering up Koblers “lies” against their organization. MeK leaders insist the US remains responsible for their safety.

U.N. envoy accuses Iran group’s leaders in Iraq of rights abuses

UNITED NATIONS – The outgoing U.N. special envoy to Iraq on Tuesday accused the leaders of an Iranian dissident group U.N. envoy accuses Iran group's leaders in Iraq of rights abuses at a camp in Iraq of human rights abuses, an allegation the movement dismissed as baseless.

Members of the Iranian dissident group Mujahadin-e-Khalq living in Camp Hurriya near Baghdad have been transferred there from Camp Ashraf north of the Iraqi capital, where they had lived for nearly a decade until last year.

The group and its political wing, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, have complained repeatedly about the conditions at Camp Hurriya, formerly known as Camp Liberty, and security problems.

U.N. envoy Martin Kobler, who will take up a similar position in the Democratic Republic of Congo next month, told the Security Council that the United Nations had received complaints about the Iranian group’s leadership at the camp.

"Of increasing concern are the human rights abuses in Camp Hurriya itself by the camp leadership," Kobler said. "Hundreds of daily monitoring reports suggest that the lives of Camp Hurriya members are tightly controlled."

"A significant number of residents have reported to U.N. monitors that they are not free to leave the camp, to participate in the resettlement process offered by UNHCR, to contact family members outside Iraq, or to have contact with other relatives even within the camp itself," he said, referring to the U.N. refugee agency.

Some Hurriya residents reported being denied access to medical treatment by camp leaders, while others spoke of verbal and other forms of abuse for disagreeing with camp leaders or voicing the desire to leave, Kobler said.

The Mujahadin-e-Khalq, taken off the U.S. list of terrorist organizations last year, calls for the overthrow of Iran’s Shi’ite Muslim clerical leadership. It fought alongside the forces of Iraq’s late Sunni Muslim dictator Saddam Hussein in the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

The group is no longer welcome in Iraq under the Shi’ite Muslim-led government that came to power after U.S.-led forces invaded and toppled Saddam in 2003. Some exiles say they suspect that Baghdad might be ready to send them back to Iran.

There have been two rocket attacks on Camp Hurriya this year, one in February and another last month. Some 10 residents were killed and 71 wounded.

‘PERSONALIZED ATTACKS’

Shahin Gobadi, a spokesman for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, denied the allegations of Kobler, whom the Iranian dissidents have long accused of lying and covering up facts about what they say are substandard conditions at Hurriya.

"These allegations are so baseless that the Iranian resistance has on 50 occasions called for an independent fact-finding mission to investigate all these claims and all other lies that Kobler has disseminated," he said.

"But neither Kobler nor the government of Iraq has agreed to any independent investigation."

The United Nations has defended Kobler and denied the allegations about a cover-up.

"We regret that MeK and its supporters continue to focus on public distortions of the U.N.’s efforts to promote a peaceful, humanitarian solution on Camp Ashraf and, in particular, its highly personalized attacks on the U.N. envoy for Iraq," U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said.

There are around 100 Iranians remaining at Camp Ashraf who refuse to leave, Kobler said. He described the situation at Ashraf as tense.

Last week lawyers for the families at Camp Hurriya held a news conference in New York to present a petition to the United Nations calling for an immediate return to Camp Ashraf.

The Mujahadin-e-Khalq insists that the United States, whose forces initially helped them settle in Ashraf after the 2003 invasion, still bears responsibility for their safety.

Camp Liberty residents’ questions go unanswered

News from inside Camp Liberty – base of the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) in Iraq – indicates that the cult leader Massoud Rajavi was seriously relying on the Iranian presidential elections turning into a fiasco. The cult’s Camp Liberty residents’ questions go unanswered leaders had prepared the grounds for an escalation of public unrest and had told the members trapped in the camp that the cult had a bright future, hence discouraging them from fleeing the camp.

When Iran named the Iranian New Year, beginning in March, to be a ‘political epic’, one MEK official told a gathering of the members with ridicule that, “They should beware not to have a political disaster during the elections never mind an epic”.

With reference to the sayings of Massoud Rajavi, one of the MEK officials said, “We lost our chance in the past election in 2009, if we lose our chance this time the overthrow of the regime will not be possible for another 8 years”. Apparently the cult had sent some sabotage teams into Iran who were arrested before they could do anything.

In his internal analysis Rajavi had calculated that when Rafsanjani and Mashai were among those who put themselves forward as presidential candidates, the regime would be in an awkward position. Whether they are qualified according to the Guardians’ Council or not, according to Rajavi the result would be turmoil and disorder. He therefore believed the situation would be ripe for the MEK to add to the difficulties of the Islamic Republic and he could carry out his own goals.

After a calm and hassle-free election with a big voter turnout – which all media and political sources agreed was the case, except of course Rajavi who claimed insistently that nobody participated and people shouted slogans – and after the ‘most-unlikely-candidate-to-win’ according to Rajavi actually won the election, questions were raised amongst the MEK members to which the cult officials had no answer. Although they had created the grounds for these queries in the first place, they could only, as it is customary inside the cult, accuse those raising questions of repeating the regime’s nonsense.

The other matter which raised many questions inside the MEK is the recent resignation of two prominent members of the National Council of Resistance (NCR, the MEK’s western style front group), Mr Karim Ghasim and Mr Mohammad Reza Rohani, and the consequent revelations by two other members, Ismael Vafa Yaghmai and Iraj Mesdaghi. The cult leaders briefed the members by claiming that Ghasim and Rohani were supposed to have been fired six months ago but the Council had deferred it to an appropriate time before they eventually got rid of them. This is quite the opposite to the Council’s public statement that emphasized how shocked they were to learn that the two had resigned and blamed it on infiltration by the Iranian regime into the NCR.

The Rajavi cult is also trying to link the replacement of Mr Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the UN General Secretary to Iraq, to their hostile efforts against him and show it as a victory gained by them. The truth is that Mr Kobler’s mission in Iraq came to an end and he has now been appointed to a new mission in the Congo and of course the policy of the UN will not change just because one Special Representative has moved on and another has been appointed. It should be noted that Mr Kobler will certainly thoroughly brief his successor about the cultic behavior of the MEK.

The other news is that cult officials inside Camp Liberty try to pretend that those who were sent to Albania did not wish to go and they had to force them to do so. They do this to discourage people from volunteering to leave the camp so that the leaders can pre-select the people they choose to allow to go.

MKO Responsible for any Bloodshed

A brief look at MKO-run media implies that the world is concerned about the dire situation of the group’s members residing in the transit Liberty camp scheduled to be transferred out of Iraq to other third countries if they are accepted. As recently, there are also many statements circulated on the group’s pages from a variety of dignitaries from Western countries as well as organizations condemning mortar attacks against Camp Liberty that has led to a number of these refugees being killed and injured. But the bare fact about all this human tragedy and suffering is that the blame has to be squarely placed on MKO leaders.

A common sense approach to end the predicament of the residents is to have a close, unprejudiced cooperation with all parties engaged to solve the problem and those shouldering the responsibility to facilitate the transfer of the residents. However, MKO’s resistance to cooperate and its leaders’ insistence to return the residence to their previous military camp, Camp Ashraf, remains the sole obstacle to implement the approaches. To mention an example of MKO’s refusal to cooperate, the group’s leaders rejected Albania’s generous offer to resettle 210 former residents. The offer was made at a time when no other country has decisively offered to receive any member of the group. However, only a few numbers, only thirty residents, were relocated to Albania in early June under global pressure.

Following the relocation, in a press statement, the State Department called MKO to have a full cooperation with all the engaged parties to solve the problem:

“The United States also reiterates its call to the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) to cooperate fully with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) process to relocate Camp Hurriya residents outside of Iraq as expeditiously as possible. The permanent relocation of residents is essential to ensure the safety and security of residents, especially following the February 9 terrorist attack that took eight lives.

The MEK leadership has the responsibility to facilitate the full and immediate participation of residents in interview and counseling processes required by the UNHCR. Residents of Camp Hurriya are entitled to unimpeded and private access to UN human rights monitors. The MEK leadership has an obligation to ensure residents are able to engage openly and freely with UN human rights monitors, UNHCR personnel and UNAMI representatives.”

Despite all efforts for seeking a peaceful solution in handling the MKO’s exit from Iraq, MKO, innately a violent group investing on violent approaches as a desired outlet, is resolved to heighten the tension to a point that might provoke a violent reaction, just what MKO dreams to happen. MKO never observes nor has any respect for human rights and international laws; it is getting ready for causing an appalling human tragedy rather than to end it. MKO is not uninterested to make all residents martyrs to demonize the Iraqi government as well as securing a much more extended period of stay in Iraq with all needed sympathy directed in its own favor.

For sure, the countries that refuse to accept Liberty residents as refugees have their own logic and reasons. A review of the group’s past violent history and anti-social behaviors in Iraq and other European countries, regardless of the atrocities perpetrated against its own fellow Iranian, might well explain the cause. What is just before European’s eyes is the group’s decade long persisting challenge with the Government of Iraq. Once forming close alliance with Saddam against Iranian regime, MKO acted also as his loyal mercenary in suppression of uprising Iraq dissidents. After the fall of the dictator, in a shift of position the group claimed to be standing beside the Iraqi people in a unified front to secure its stay in Iraq. As it is naturally a terrorist group whose strategy of struggle is founded on armed and violent warfare, soon it began to show its real, hostile attitude against the legally elected government and defied any reached legal decision; it preferred to make coalition with Iraqi insurgent groups. MKO in its struggle to survive not only claimed a position similar to that of Iraqi citizens with all granted rights but also postured as being in the vanguard of accomplishing democracy for Iraqi people and began interfering in the country’s domestic affairs. So it is natural to see a violent reaction from certain Iraqis who are against MKO’s interventionist attitude and prolonged stay in Iraq regardless of any global condemnation and disapproval of attacks against the Liberty residents. It is only MKO and just MKO that is responsible for any killed or injured residents.

Why such a reaction to defection of two NCR members?

Following the resignation of the two last non-MEK members of the National Council of Resistance, the secretariat of the NCR published an announcement denouncing the two defectors, Mr. Karim Ghasim and Mr. Mohammad Reza Rowhani! The announcement was a reaction to the common statement the two defected member issued after their resignation.
Ghasim and Rowhani criticized the NCR leader for their undemocratic approach during the years of their membership in the council although they seemed reluctant to openly question the organization. However, the NCR announcement calls their allegedly unexpected resignation as treason! Ghorban Ali Hossein nejad former Rajavi’s personal interpreter –who himself was harshly verbally harassed by Massoud Rajavi after his defection from the Mujahedin Khalq Organization/ MKO—condemned the group’s attitude regarding defection of the members of the NCR.
“Where in the world leaving a party or a political organization is considered treason and joining the enemy?”, Hossein nejad asks the group leaders.”Why you never answered a single question they asked about the council’s functions and decisions in 30 years?”As the two individuals have noted in their statement the reason of their resignation is the lack of responsiveness in the MKO.
Comparing the MKO with the Communist party of the Soviet Union, Ghorban Ali Hosseinnejad wants the MKO authorities to respond the criticism the defectors of the NCR presented in their statement.
The announcement of the NCR was allegedly signed by the so-called signatories who signed the group’s announcement against Qasim and Rowhani and according to Hossein nejad 90 percent of them are currently in Iraq so they were absent at the NCR’s meeting held in Paris! Therefore, no challenge and criticism was posed in the meeting. Basically members of the MKO especially those who are residing in Camp Liberty, Iraq, never dare to refuse signing the indoctrinated documents. Former translator of Massoud Rajavi puts: ”Besides, I know individuals among the signatories with whom I used to work when I was in the group and I know them well. I know that they were serious critics of the council’s leader who is also the MKO’s leader but they were forced to sign the announcement under Rajavi’s oppressive system and heavy pressure ruling Liberty.”

The MKO leadership victim of the US!?

One of the most common myths about cult leaders is that” they are infallible”. Leaders, particularly cult leaders do make mistakes like all humans do. Actually they are at risk of making more mistakes than ordinary people and their followers because they take more decisions than others do. However what makes difference between a good leader and a cult leader is that good leaders honestly admit their mistakes and view them as experiences to be learned from. Contrarily, cult leaders never let others criticize them; they are divinely infallible people who should be followed blindly. Anyone who dares to criticize them will face excessive response and abusive attitude by the side of the cult.

Although the Mujahedin Khalq Organization denies its cult-like substance and claims that labeling it as a “cult” is “the parroting of the repeated propaganda” by the Islamic Republic, its overreaction regarding the US government critics demonstrates the group’s hypersensitivity about its leadership.

Once more, the Los Angeles Times piece on the MKO caused the group to burst out words in an angry rush. It was just a week earlier that , despite the risks to the members’ lives in Iraq.”[1]

The LA Times piece asserts that the group’s “leadership seems reluctant to move the group members from Iraq.” The author quotes from Beth Jones acting assistant secretary of State for Near East Affair –who addressed a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee –that ”although US officials have worked hard to persuade the group’ leadership to cooperate in the departures very few have been allowed to move."[2]

On May 15th, 2013, just fourteen individuals were allowed to officially leave the group after ten years since the collapse of Saddam’s regime in 2003. During the decade, the Iraqi government has always called on the MKO expulsion from Iraqi territory. This is while the MKO propaganda arm (the NCR) claims that its representatives have actively worked writing letters to authorities of UN and US for the relocation of all members to the US or Europe! The group propaganda proudly says that it is running the line of “return to Ashraf” in all its websites; it does say that it is collecting –paid– signatories to run petitions for return to their former equipped base near Iranian border, Camp Ashraf. The MKO exaggeratedly boasts of the resolution its lobby could pass in the US congress to get the “bipartisan support of nearly 100 members” –who are actually well paid by the group—for the return to Ashraf. So which one to believe? The leadership alleged efforts for the relocation of members in the West or the large scale propaganda for getting back to Ashraf? Of course, the second one is more likely because at least you could see the proof on the group’s websites.

The group claims that return to Ashraf is "for better protection of the residents". It sounds that the MKO leaders have forgotten that the attack on Camp Ashraf in July 2009 and April 2011 resulted in much more casualties than the attack on Camp Liberty in February 2013. Anyway Camp Ashraf is not a safer place than Liberty." American and UN officials believe the group needs to leave Iraq as soon as possible because of hostility from several Iraqi groups and the limited patience of the Iraqi government, which is protecting it,” reported LA Times. [3]

The LA article accurately condemned the “group’s leadership in Paris” who controlled subordinates to cooperate with the UN screening required before resettlement can be arranged”.[4]In response, the MKO propaganda – characteristically – blames the Iranian intelligence for recruiting people claiming to be former members of the MKO. They base their claim on the discredited report of the Library of Congress for the Pentagon that was dismissed a few days after its publication. However, there are a lot more reports and articles on the cult–like nature of the MKO and human rights abuses committed by its leaders based on the testimonies of dozens of its former members. It sounds ridiculous that in the view of the MKO propaganda so many human rights institutions and journalists and even governmental bodies like RAND have been fooled by the agents recruited by the Islamic Republic to play the role of former members!

The extreme anger by the MKO towards the US administration sounds to be kind of rejoinder to purify its leadership particularly in the eyes of the US Congressmen because it is one of rare occasions that an administration official tries to illuminate the US congressmen about the group danger. This move instigated the MKO lobbying campaign to take serious action for imposing more influence in the Congress. After opening their office in Washington DC, they officially registered to lobby the US government. The NCR has hired former New Jersey Democratic Senator Robert Torricelli to represent it, the Hill reported on May24, 2013. “Speaking fees paid by MEK supporters to former government officials – including ex – Pennsylvanian Gov. Ed Rendell and Gen. [6] The delisting of the MKO was more or less the result of such a lobbying by individuals like Torricelli who had received large amounts of money from the group. Utter Corruption!

The MKO multimillion-dollar campaign that lavishly spends money to buy supporters doesn’t bear any US official question its leaders. The group’s propaganda machine is working awfully hard to whitewash its history and leaders, taking the gesture of a democratic peaceful alternative to the Islamic Republic.

The Goebbels–style propaganda of the NCRI for the Rajavis find them as “victims“and “innocents”. Practically the same as the MKO, the Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels always predicted the victory of “Our Hitler”. This was what gave Hitler power for an era but his power in all media that tried to instill in the Germans the concept of their leader as a veritable god, ultimately ended in the collapse of Nazism. The MKO’s three-decade propaganda has definitely no better destiny.

Letter of Sahar Family Foundation to Martin Kobler

Following the remarks made by the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Iraq, Mr Martin Kobler, that the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) is not cooperating with the international bodies responsible for relocating the residents of Camp Liberty to third countries, Sahar Family Foundation (SFF) wrote a letter to him and raised Letter of Sahar Family Foundation to Martin Kobler some issues and questions, along with some propositions and demands.

UNAMI, Baghdad, June 1, 2013

Dear Mr Kobler,

Following your remarks that the MEK, which has 3400 members in Camp Liberty in Iraq, does not cooperate with the international bodies to solve the problem of relocating the residents to third countries, we decided to raise some issues and questions along with some propositions and demands.

What follows might have been raised before in your meetings with the families and the former members or in our letters previously, but we found it necessary to repeat these important matters again as reminders.

Background:

1. Following the relocation of the MEK from Ashraf Garrison to Camp Liberty, the situation dramatically changed as far as the MEK leaders were concerned. Since Liberty was much smaller than Ashraf, the cultic controlling conditions could not be fully imposed and therefore the runaways increased and became more frequent. This clearly shows that the controlling methods used by the leaders in an isolated atmosphere are the only obstacles in the way of the residents gaining their freedom.

2. Massoud Rajavi has lately, in an internal hearing, said to the inhabitants of Camp Liberty that the atmosphere of Liberty is poisoned and must be detoxified. He then explained that the presence of the UN, ICRC, and Iraqi officials just outside the camp is a major threat to his cult. It is known that all cult leaders have double standards for inside and outside of their cults. Although Rajavi tries to keep in with international organizations and use their resources for his benefit, he actually considers their presence at Camp Liberty as deadly poison.

3. Rajavi has also said to his followers in Camp Liberty that the highest crime one can commit is to leave the organization and anyone attempting to do so is liable for capital punishment. This applies to the followers in western countries too. Rajavi has clearly exposed his criminal and murderous attitude. This idea is common with terrorist cults, that one who leaves the cult must be killed. Thus the security and safety of the residents of Camp Liberty is in danger and Massoud Rajavi should be considered as the highest threat.

4. Rajavi has striven for many years to keep his cult in Iraq and restore the conditions he used to enjoy under Saddam Hussein. The next option for him is that his cult be relocated as a group to a place similar to Ashraf in another county. This of course is against international laws and regulations and the UNHCR can by no means allow it. Everyone knows that Massoud Rajavi is creating obstacles in the way of the UN officials and he does not want to relocate the residents of Liberty to third countries. The reason is clear. Rajavi knows full well that when his followers leave the isolated and disciplined location of Camp Liberty they will leave his cult and will reveal the many atrocities practiced there.

5. You must be aware that it is about two and a half years that the families of those captured inside the cult are waiting in Iraq only demanding to visit their loved ones. But Rajavi, not only denying this, has made hateful accusations against them and subjected them to mal treatment such as physical and verbal harassment and throwing stones. Rajavi is well aware that once the suppressed emotions and feelings are triggered the effects of mind manipulation will fade away.

6. Rajavi has forbidden his followers to even think about moving to another country. He has resembled this to an epidemic of a deadly virus which can infect his cult. You are aware that he has ideologically banned his followers from talking with or interviews with UN monitors or with any outsider. He has announced that doing so is crossing the ideological picket line. Rajavi considers the relocation of his cult out of Iraq, managed by the UN, as dismantlement of his cult.

7. The last point that we have always repeated is that Rajavi will under no circumstances cooperate with UN officials unless he is forced to. You know that in the process of disarmament and in the process of relocating from Ashraf to Liberty and in the process of sending a small number of people to Albania, Rajavi has done his best to resist and create obstacles and finally, only when he had no other choice has he accepted the fact. No one can expect Rajavi to show logical sense and mutual collaboration.

Important and major questions:

1. Now that you have acknowledged Rajavi is not cooperating on the issue of being relocated from Iraq, and one must say that he has never cooperated on any issue with anyone at all and will never in future unless forced to do so, what is the UN’s plan to solve the problem and move the residents to third countries?

2. Is there any will at all to solve the problem and move Rajavi’s victims and hostages out of Iraq regardless of political maneuvers and agendas?

3. What can the families and the former members and human rights activists do to help in this issue, or does the UN find itself needless of any assistance?

Propositions and demands:

1. The experience of the recent past few years has shown clearly that Rajavi will not yield to international demands unless he is under enormous pressure. Therefore the political and international pressure on him must be increased and the help offered by families and former members must be brought into consideration.

2. The western and Iraqi lobby of the MEK that only seeks its own particular political interests must be pushed back; do not let the financial and political support of a destructive mind control cult claim more victims.

3. Camp Liberty residents’ contact with the outside world, in particular with their families, must be restored using every possible means, and the possibility of a life outside the cult must be shown to the followers who have no idea about what is going on around them in the outside world.
